We park in the garage and you can use the Chasin Tails code for free parking. It's listed at the hostess desk so make sure you get that. Nice looking place...big bar when you walk in and good vibe. The waitress (Zoom) greets us and is very pleasant explaining how the AYCE option works. We order up 3 different dishes per person - Ribeye Wagyu zabuton Charbroiled Oysters Hamachi Crudo Hushpuppies Crab and Artichoke dip Blackened Salmon Seafood Pot Oh Dang style- Snow crab legs King Prawns Chesapeake Crab Corn Potatoes Andouille sausage The food comes out and wow. The seafood pot is huge stuffed with giant snow crab legs, shrimp and crab. Fire! I must say everything is extremely tasty and high quality. We are all impressed and so glad my son made the recommendation. It is definitely alot to eat and we were all stuffed but we are discussing when we should come back. Highly recommend and great for a special occasion like birthdays. Zoom and the host did a great job making us feel welcome. Will definitely be telling friends about the excellent experience.

Fish was fine, but unfortunately there was nothing worth mentioning positively about it for its $37 price point. *Neither sauce was worth ordering and unfortunately neither tasted how they were described, more like plain aioli. In our ignorance, we didn't realize branzino meant the whole fish would be served versus a filet. It would have been nice to have been able to read that fact on the menu prior to ordering. We ordered the truffle fries, which had probably zero amounts of truffle on them. Overcooked. We ordered the tropical mojito mocktail, and it was either poorly made or the recipe could use a complete reset. The crab stuffed mushrooms and sauce, amazing. Server, kind. We were asking quite a few questions of him, trying to decide between the Chilean with lobster or the branzino, which showed our ignorance in the fish choices, I believe. A good server would have picked up on this, and went into a much more detailed explanation of both dishes to educate and inform us on making the right decision. So I think it's pretty accurate to say that a good majority of the problems we had could have been salvaged had he been a little more seasoned at reading the individual needs of his customers. Although, with ordering either of these entrees or the truffle fries, we would have been disappointed as the flavor was just not there. Being out of towners used to seafood from California, we were excited to try a new place on the east coast. I read multiple positive reviews from other customers, and unfortunately we are leaving disappointed in the $80 spent. We joked that perhaps the usual chef called in sick and the bus boy took his place. Underwhelming. Overcooked. Bland. But, they had pretty tables.

When we tried to order some items, they were out (including the filet mignon tips that everyone loves). We went at 4:30pm on a Sunday and heard they run out in the afternoon.

On the positive, the Happy Hour is one of the best kept secret in McLean if not NOVA. During happy hour (at the bar only, 5-7pm), $6.50 for the best hamburger sliders I've ever had. Delicious bun -- kinda looks like Challah -- and thick juicy meat cooked medium. Finally, some sliders not cooked well done. They have four kinds: classic, filet (Mignon), au poivre and pork (pulled) and all come with fries or chips (your pick). All other appetizers are either 6.5 or 5.5, so plenty to choose from. I particularly love the giant plate of calamari and the quessadilla big enough for a meal on its own. I've never been disappointed by their bar food. For me, it's usually: sliders + fries + two beers + tip + full belly = $15. I'm there at least once or twice a week, given that I live just a couple minutes away. On the negative, well, it's in McLean. The bar has a crowd reminiscent of what you'll find at Cafe Milano in DC: the Happy Hour is insanely busy with 40-60yo men comparing umm watches, a few 40yo women on the prowl, and some very nice couples in the their 70s who are just long time residents and enjoy some good food. Service is hit or miss. Because of the crowd, you need to act like it otherwise you'll get no attention whatsoever. The atmosphere is nice with candlelit tables. People are chatting, laughing, and there are some very comfortable and isolated booths if you don't want to mingle at the bar or at the two communal tables. Finally, get there early. It's hard to find seats if you get there past 5:45 -- even on a random Wednesday evening -- so otherwise be ready to bump elbow with a 50yo who thinks he owns DC (this bar, obviously, included). This is by all means one of the best steak houses in the World! I've been loyal to J. for several years; I even had my wedding reception here! The food is out of the world. Being from Arizona I know a good steak and I know what real mesquite wood is and the combination of the two equal's one of the best experiences you will ever have. I know that being in the DC area everyone likes things cooked with hickory, but that's because mesquite is hard to get here and they just don't know, it's not their fault. On top of the best selections of steaks, from porterhouse's that serve 2 to their Kansas City Strip steak, they have chicken, ribs (the kind that fall off of the bone when they hit your mouth) and salmon and fresh fish also! Their bar is so beautiful, you will enjoy going into it and just looking around. The drinks are always good, with a nice healthy pour, all of the martini's are made in their indivual shaker and they leave it on the table so you can refill your drink, with every martini you get is really like almost 2 with the extra. I gust that most bartenders just toss that "extra" away... the juice for the drinks is hand squeezed even! Our service has always been impeccable. I try and ask for Juan (10 star service) He's been with the company for 20 years. This restaurant by the way is not a chain like Ruth's or Morton's there are 4 of them in the US. Last time I started with the Fried Calamari, which came out golden fried and not rubbery. I had the Bone-In Ribeye cooked medium well, with a side of Asparagus and Mashed Potatoes. And cheesecake with coffee made the perfect end to a perfect meal. I can eat a lot, and I don't know how I put it all away. It must have been those martinis. ;) read more

J Gilbert's RUINED MOTHERS DAY.. We have been celebrating special occasions for over 15 years at this place. So we made a reservation for Mothers Day. We were running a few min late so we called and the hostess said don't worry we are behind on reservations so no problem. That should have been the first red flag. We arrived and checked in and were seated within 20 min. Not bad since we were a little late and they were packed. We ordered appetizers and the waiter encouraged us to place our orders sooner than later because it was taking about 30 min for the kitchen to prepare the meals. Salads and the appetizers came out in about 10 min so that was as expected Well 1.5 hours later and all of the tables abound us were sitting there on their phones with out food just as we were, I asked to speak to the manager. He said everything was going as planned but it was takin one hour and five min for food to come out of the kitchen. I explained that we had been waiting for more than 1.5 hours he said well it should be out soon. He didn't do anything to make things better other than apologize. Maybe bring another appetizer out or something to keep our attention. The wait staff eventually just stayed in the back so they didn't have to keep making excuses. It was now 10:00pm and we had been sitting there since 8:00 with no dinner, so we got up and left. Luckily McDonalds next door was open so we made the best of it and got ice cream. Not sure if it is new Management but the last time I was there in February I could tell it wasn't the same place. Hope they get things figured out because this was a nice restaurant. read more

My wife and I celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary at J. Gilbert's, and it was nothing short of perfect. From the moment we were seated, we knew we were in for a special evening--but what truly made it unforgettable was our incredible server, Travis. Travis went above and beyond to make our night feel truly celebrated. His energy was warm and welcoming, and his attention to detail was impeccable. Not only did he guide us through the menu with thoughtful recommendations, but he also surprised us with a few personal touches that made us feel genuinely special. It's rare to find someone who provides service with both professionalism and heart, but Travis absolutely nailed it. The food, as always, was phenomenal. Our steaks were cooked to perfection--juicy, flavorful, and just the way we like them. I enjoy dining at J Gilbert's, as I have dined there plenty of times. I visited yesterday and I was so annoyed that I left before I even placed an order. I arrived a little late due to traffic. I attempted to call several times, but no answer. When I arrived, I was greeted by a hostess. She wasn't overly nice, but she was ok. I told her that I was late for my reservation and she told me no problem. She left to find us a table, or so I thought. When she came back, it appeared as though she was surprised to see me still. Maybe it's because others who had come in behind us had already been seated. I saw the hostess preparing a table through the tempered glass window and figured she was probably preparing it for us and I was correct. She came to get us afterwards and showed us to our table. Once we were seated, we noticed that the table was actually dirty. Really dirty! There were crumbs left on the table and the water glasses looked like someone had drank from them. I was livid. I wouldn't have had an issue with waiting, as I was late for my reservation. What I did have an issue with is others (without reservations) coming into the restaurant, being served before me, and being seated at a dirty table with dirty glasses. As a long-time McLean resident, my wife and I are always interested in exploring local brunch spots. Last Sunday, we visited J. Gilbert's in McLean to sample the brunch fare and were pleasantly surprised by the wide range of food items--everything from omelets made to order, roast beef, copious amounts of bacon and sausages, carrot cake and waffles. We were also impressed by the variety of healthy fruit choices such as blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, melon, watermelon and sliced oranges and grapefruit. And a "shout-out" is due to our awesome server Nancy (last name might be Davis?) as she greeted us with a warm welcome and patiently explained the wide variety brunch offerings when we were first seated. Unbelievable! The bartender is catering ( like he's a king) to his AA Sponsor. I know this because they are talking about it and said Bartender is treating this guy like he has wings while ignoring me.Sponsor's food from brunch buffet is brought to him special order and they are talking about their issues. I'm there first but asked to give more space to AA King when he had space for two people! Meanwhile, I ask why I'm being treated in a different way and next thing I l know Bartender ( male) who is clearly in a relationship with this guy who is being treated like royalty asks manager to call police on me. I've been in here a few times over the past few years, usually just for a drink with my wife at the bar. I came here earlier this month with my wife, my parents and my sister before a concert. Place was jam packed at the bar but we were able to get a table in the dining room even though we were just having a drink and some starters to share. We ordered a shrimp cocktail, the blue cheese chips and I believe they brought some bread and butter. Everything was amazing. The food was great, our server was attentive and got us our food and drinks quickly since we were on a time budget. This is a classy place with quality food and service. I came here for a birthday dinner with family not too long ago on a Tuesday evening. We had a very pleasant experience, and I've been craving the filet ever since- it was very tender, perfectly seasoned, and one of the best I've ever had. The porterhouse and some of the other entrees seemed a bit overpriced, but the meal I had was priced accordingly. Their dessert selection was also very appealing. Again, great food and service. Prix fixe is a wonderful 3 course option to try several different items. Most of the time the servers will allow substitutes, just ask. The servers are very versatile. I love this place because you can go in in jeans and tshirt and get a burger and coke, or go in formal attire and get a porterhouse and caymus, and still get the same great service. Our sever tonight was Michelle and she was wonderful despite my grumpy father - in - law being rude with her throughout the entire time we were there. The food here is consistently PERFECT! If you ask for their hamburger, it is the best in the world, and they will cook it EXACTLY to order - like if you say "Well done" they get more specific to determine if you actually want Well Done or Medium Well Plus, and then it comes out exactly that way...every time. The food is fresh, zesty, and melt in your mouth great. The wait staff is consistently friendly, courteous, and efficient. Awful dining experience last night! Had reservations for a special birthday celebration for 7 people. Awful service, place was packed, server was slammed. One of our orders was never put in, and very little offered to rectify the situation other than to actually put in the order and get food after everyone else was finished. Will never ever return. Too many tables for the server that he could not manage. Walked away with a very disappointed celebration. Could have gone anywhere and made the wrong choice!! Awful!! read more

For the special occasion lunch, j Gilbert's almost always delivers. It's a bit on the pricey side for the meals worth having, but then again, they are worth having! The streak wedge salad is a great go to, though today I ventured deeper into the menu and got the steak and frites (sans frites and with asparagus). The steak was delicious... Better than I was expecting. This place is consistently good. Also, they serve Arnold Palmer's... So you have to get one of those! read more

Came for a dinner date around 8pm one night. We had reservations but we still had to wait a half hour, with tables still open around all around the place. Everything seemed a bit overpriced- the steak was good, but I feel I could get the same quality for half as much. Ambiance is nice and relaxing, subtly romantic, clean and open... I guess they were just short staffed or disorganized that night so I would definitely consider giving it another chance in the future. read more

I eat at J. Gilberts at least once a week and I have only been disappointed one time. (The night before Thanksgiving) I think that the chefs were busy getting ready for the next day and slacked off on the Wednesday night dinner. They have great food and prices for happy hour and on Wednesday nights they have lobster for $9.99, Can't beat that! Besides the lobster, my favorites are shrimp durango and carpaccio. My personal favorites were the wings which had a sweet and tangy flavor as well as the calamari. With the calamari there were jalapeños mixed in, so it definitely was a spicy surprise . The rolls were OK, but not as warm and soft as I'd like. I didn't try the sliders, but heard they were good. For drinks, I got a mocktail. The one I ordered had blueberry and a spice mix. It was really good! The service wasn't great to me. Our waiter didn't check in about our meals once we got them to see if we liked them or refill our water. I will say everyone enjoyed their food. I had the steak salad and asked for my steak to be medium well which it was cooked to my liking. I just thought the steak could have been better seasoned and for there to be more dressing. For dessert, the waiter recommended the bread pudding and it seemed to be a popular option among their dessert offerings. Although I didn't try the bread pudding, the bride to be and her maid of honor ate it, and they both said it wasn't good and very thick. All in all, I'd say the ambiance is great, food is tasty, but service could be more attentive.

Right from the start, the hostess was very attentive to detail - she noticed our request for a brighter dining area near the window, and also acknowledged that we were celebrating my dad's birthday. We were seated in a spacious booth by the window, which was perfectly lit while still keeping the ambiance of a dim dining environment. The restaurant also offers complementary valet parking, which made arriving and leaving much more convenient on a rainy Saturday evening. (Alternatively, you can also self-park at the garage adjacent to the restaurant for a fee, or park at Tysons Galleria, walk through the Ritz-Carlton, and walk across the roundabout.) The restaurant was extremely busy for a Saturday night, and you could definitely tell the servers were constantly running around trying to keep up. Because of that, service was a bit slower at times, but the staff remained friendly, energetic, and attentive throughout the evening. We started with warm focaccia bread served with a side of olive oil/parmesan while waiting for our order to be taken. After kindly refilling our bread upon request, another server came by to take our order. We ordered the Tuna Crudo, Lobster Bisque, Shrimp Sauté, Wagyu Lasagna, 12oz Filet Mignon, 14 oz Prime New York Steak and Lobster Mac & Cheese. I thoroughly enjoyed the filet, which was tender, juicy and cooked to the perfect temperature; however, the tuna crudo appetizer was not as expected - it seemed more like a seared ahi tuna dish than an actual crudo. The shrimp in the Shrimp Sauté dish was very decently sized, although the linguine was overcooked for my liking. Also, my dad requested his New York Strip to be prepared medium-well, but it came out closer to medium-rare (though honestly,'it's much better for a steak to be undercooked than overcooked). The wagyu lasagna had an interesting presentation, but it could have benefited from a bit more seasoning, as the flavor came across somewhat mild. After dinner, our server surprised by dad with a complimentary dessert for his birthday, where he could choose any dessert on the menu. He chose the carrot cake, which was a bit too sweet for our liking, but it had real shredded carrot pieces throughout the cake, which was a nice touch. The staff also packed up all of our leftovers, and despite how busy the night was, our server never forgot we were celebrating. One of the sweetest details was that they even gave my dad a handwritten birthday card with "Happy Birthday" stamped on the envelope, which made the experience feel extra thoughtful and personal. Overall, this was a great first experience here for us. Despite the slower service due to how packed the restaurant was, the hospitality, atmosphere and quality of the food made for a memorable birthday dinner. We will definitely be returning in the future.

Their sweet potato fries, however, used to be bomb.com but that has since changed. My friend ordered their Lobster Garlic Noodles, which were also really good. I'm truly just glad to know that I still have a place for a good Veggie Burger.

If the busy atmosphere doesn't bother you and you're looking for burgers, beers, and a place that can easily accommodate a larger group, Yard House is a great option.

I'd suggest to get the fajitas they seem to be bigger portions. We also could only split the check up to 5 or 6 even ways so we just ended up doing one check. I also saw previous reviews that you can get parking validated but our server said they don't do that.
