Today I was volunteering with SixDegrees.org at George Mason University, assembling Find Your Anchor suicide prevention kits and meal kits. Since I was already in Fairfax, I finally had the chance to stop by Ned's New England Deck for lunch. I'd noticed they served whole belly clams, and I hadn't had them in years--not since my last trip to Maine, where my mom was from. Growing up, we spent summers there, and whole belly clams were always one of my favorite treats. They're almost impossible to find here in the DMV. I have to admit, I've had plenty of experiences where I get excited to try something and it ends up being disappointing. That definitely wasn't the case here. The fried whole belly clam platter was absolutely delicious. The clams were perfectly cooked, and the portion was generous enough that I saved the coleslaw for later. Yes, seafood is expensive, but this meal was worth it. The staff made the experience even better. The gentleman taking orders was genuinely kind. While I waited for my takeout order, he offered me a glass of water, which was especially appreciated after a busy morning of volunteering. It's a small gesture, but those little acts of kindness make a difference. The restaurant itself is charming, with both indoor and outdoor seating, and it reminded me of the casual seafood places I remember from Maine. They even have a fun promotion where you can roll dice for a chance to upgrade your lobster roll, which I thought was a nice touch. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Fairfax. We reserved the play area with some friends and were able to enjoy a nice meal while the kids played. The gentleman running the place at the time was super friendly. The lobster roll had huge chunks of lobster in it. I love having a local restaurant where we can enjoy a delicious meal while the kids play. Nice location with outdoor seating. Located next door to Baskins Robbins if you want ice cream for dessert. Ned does offer their own desserts that we didn't try on our first visit. We placed our order, sat outside and our food was bought to us. Friendly service and was even asked if we wanted refills on our fountain drinks. Ordered the CT lobster roll and Poké Nachos with truffle fries. The poke nachos were large and fries tasted great. The CT lobster roll was also good but smaller than i expected considering the price. Came here with my mom for lunch because she loves lobster! The staff were super friendly and welcoming. We ordered the Down East and Brown Butter lobster rolls. Both were packed with lobster meat, but the DE lobster roll had too much mayo and it overshadowed the lobster. I personally liked the brown butter one more. Flavor-wise they were ok. Not the best lobster rolls I've had but one of the better options in the area. My mom really loved her lobster roll though! read more

I have heard this is one of the best places to get a lobster roll. The lobster was fresh and sweet and was really good on top of their buttered roll. However, what stole the show for me was the roast beef sandwich. The beef was sliced paper thin and almost melted in your mouth. It was so good that I enjoyed this more than the lobster roll which was also great. Will definitely be back to get some more of the roast beef and try some of their other seafood options. A play place for our young children AND New England style cuisine? Say less. For Play Date Social at Ned's Nest, I highly recommend making a reservation through their online system ($7 per kid) for the timeslot you'd like to come. It's 90 minutes per timeslot and they operate on a waitlist (for walk-ins) when they're at capacity. The play area is tailored for kids 6 years and younger and has a separate area for smaller toddlers under 18 months. Everything was well-kept and clean, and our kids had a blast while we ate. As for food, they have a variety of rolls, wraps, platters, salads, soups, plenty of sides, and sweets! My husband and I both enjoyed the Connecticut style lobster roll, plus the portion was HUGE and could have been shareable. I also liked the clam chowder which was hearty with every bite and poke nachos were flavorful and filling. All of the food came out in a timely manner. When craving for a new England dish, come here. Truly inspired me to visit new England one day. I initial choose to dine in with hops my 1yr old son can play in their play area for kids under 6. But they were fully booked for a private event. Instead of turning away, we decided to stay! Glad we did because the food was delicious! The lobster was warm, soft and buttery with a hint of sweetness. The bread slightly buttered and toasted. Oh my goooosh! I had to savor each bite. Hands down I wouldn't want fried onions any other way. Move over onions rings, got a new fave now. Sliders were good and not over cooked. I love how kids friendly the chicken nug were too! We decided it was time to try Ned's New England Deck and were here on a Saturday around 2:30 p.m. Parking here is limited and can be tight. Still, we were able to find a spot. When we entered, we were surprised to see a few people waiting for their takeout orders. One customer was eating in. Also, we were surprised at how casual the place is. Ordering is done at the counter where they have both breakfast and lunch/dinner menus. Since we had looked at the menu online, we both knew what we wanted. We grabbed a bottle of water to share, then placed our dinner order and let the staff know that we would be dining in. Ned's is one of those places where if you are dining solo, you will feel comfortable doing so. They only have about 5 tables plus a counter by the window with more seating. I ordered the "Downeast lobster roll" which consists of: "poached lobster, buttered New England bun, celery, bibb lettuce and Ned's lobster dressing". This entree comes with a bag of Cape Cod potato chips. If you wanted a different side, there is an extra charge. As for the food I ate, the lobster was perfectly prepared and the amount given is generous.---so generous that I had to use my fork to eat some of it before just picking up the roll. As for Ned's dressing, it was okay but bland. That's fine because had it been stronger, it would have overpowered the lobster. My husband ordered "fried scallop platter" which consists of: "clarified butter, day boat scallops, fries, slaw and tartar sauce". He enjoyed this entree. The was a quite generous portion of scallops perfectly cooked, a half a lemon, and plenty of fries. The coleslaw was tasty, and the french fry portion was generous too. On the table were ketchup and malt vinegar. While we were eating, the man who rang up our order (maybe it was Ned?) asked us how the food was. I said "It's nice to have a taste of home." To which, he responded by asking us where we were from. Turns out, like us, he's an MA native. We definitely plan to return next time we want a taste of home! My new favorite lobster roll place! All the food is so delicious here I don't know why I didn't try this place sooner. My lobster roll was LOADED and incredibly fresh. My boyfriend got the beef sandwich and let me tell you...it was PACKED with beef. And the Apple cider doughnut holes? It's a must. You need to get them. I have been trying to get out to Neds for some steamers since Steve told me about it when I met him at an event in April. Being from Rhode Island it is so hard to get quality, fresh seafood from back home. I have literally called every weekend trying to see if they had any steamers and finally hit the jackpot so I made the drive out from DC! It's a small and cozy spot attached to a Baskin Robbins. They have plenty of seating outside on the deck, down along the parking lot as well as inside. Many of the menu food and drinks originated from New England. Despite being busy for a Saturday evening, the staff was efficient and food came out quickly. They also have great wine prices all day long. The food was amazing and the steamers DID NOT disappoint. I ordered a quart and then ordered another pint . Also had the lobster and crab bisque as well as the chowder which I ended up taking home. Definitely worth the wait! Me and my family love this place! Haven't had anything bad there, but my go to is a brown butter lobster roll with onion straws and a shandy. My kids love their food too. On a nice day we like sitting in their outdoor area, and their upstairs play area for kids is also great. First trip to Ned's I purchased takeout whole belly clams but did not factor in the 45-60 minute commute home. They were a bit soggy but still delicious. It's situated in the City of Fairfax. Although it appears small from the street, there are plenty of parking spaces at the back and additional seating areas beside the building. We heard that this restaurant is great for little kids as they have an indoor play area so we HAD to check it out. We booked a late slot for the kids to play in the play area and when we arrived we had to wait about 5 minutes or so before the kids could go in. Both my kids had a blast but I must just say that the play area is geared towards smaller kids ( under 6). The kids area has many soft play toys and they have a separate area just for kids under 18 months. Everything looks new and clean. I was super impressed. Finally a nice clean place for families. The food..... everything we had tasted really good. We tried the lobster roll, the shrimp, the haloumi and the kids shared fried fish and chips. They have a great variety of drinks available and everything comes in a little basket ( great for kids). The upstairs area is exclusively for families with kids and I do like that it's separated from the rest of the restaurant. There is snacks available for purchase as well/ which is at the eye level of small kids- so you Will end up buying snacks for them.... lol. I think the kids can play an hour in the play area but they didn't seem to have any complaints or they didn't have any kiddos leave if they were over an hour in the play area. They have big tables for big families and they have wrap around tables overlooking the play area which is great if you want to watch your kids play and have a drink and meal in peace.. This place proves that you don't have to pay premium for New England seafood goodness. Awesome lobster rolls, reasonably "market priced" and not ridiculuously tiny to keep it affordable. As first timers, we got very helpful service, for such a casual, pay-at-the-counter place, walking us through what they are famous for and our options. Chips or slaw comes with the roll. The fries side is very generous so two can easily share. Pretty good lobster bisque. They carry New England wine and beer. The only thing I regret is that we missed this year's nice weather to sit out in their cute patio (the one downstairs, and not in the front.) read more

Stopped in for the 1st time (Ned's has been on my "must try list" for a while) and Ned's did not disappoint. Ordered a Lobster Roll, and bumped it up to the "Overstuffed" option. I was told that's 6 ounces. This is a Maine-style lobster roll with mayo and toppings. The roll was heaping with lobster. Flavors were balanced and excellent. Really enjoyed it. I typically prefer a Connecticut-style roll (lobster, butter, and roll) and would like to see that option (didn't think to ask for that style to see if it's an option). This is the only place in DMV I found so far that offer whole clam bellies outside of Maine. It is decent, but overpriced for $35 and the amount of clsms you get on top of fries. We've been driving by Ned's numerous times on our way into Fairfax on Rt 50/Fairfax Blvd and have been meaning to stop by but haven't been able to. It's a nice Sunday evening with beautiful weather so we decide to make the drive out to try 'em. They have a nice outdoor seating/patio area which gives you the "feel" you are in New England by the water...but really right off Rt50 with traffic buzzing by...but that's OK. We go with the Bang Bang Shrimp Roll, the Clam Chowda, Fries...and what I came for..the North Shore Beef. The Chowder is legit...my son enjoys the Bang Bang Shrimp and the North Shore Roast Beef is tasty...I go Derby way with sauce, cheese, and horsey sauce. The Restaurant Week lunch roll is 1/2 the size of a regular roll. Also got a regular Lobster Roll ($27 market price at the time) with onion string as the side for an extra $3. Both lobster rolls were butter CT style. The lobster roll & onion string was delicious! The clam chowder was good but was on the thicker & buttery side. It's a small shop with some indoor and nice outside seating. We ordered at the counter and they were nice enough to bring our food out to us on the patio. The food was very good if a bit on the rich side. The menu is a touch limited but you have two solid options, sea food with an emphasis on lobster and roast beef sandwiches. So I feel like despite the small range you get really good coverage. So if a new england style meal I think you could go to a 4 or 4.5. Would definitely recommend if you are in the area. read more

I ordered Chesapeake bisque, its lobster bisque with butter poached crab on top it was really tasty! So glad it wasn't sweet. Only mild complaint it had several shell fragments in it but I guess that is to be expected with lobster and crab once in a while. I will definitely be coming to try other things. read more

Absolutely Delicious and Welcoming Experience! I had the pleasure of dining at Ned's New England Deck in Fairfax and let me just say WOW. I ordered the large roast beef sandwich with BBQ sauce and pimento cheese on a toasted onion roll, and it was nothing short of amazing. The meat was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. That toasted bun gave the perfect bite, and the combo of BBQ sauce with the pimento cheese was rich, tangy, and just the right kind of messy. The baked beans? Whew. We came here after watching an IG video of this local spot that would transport us to Cape Cod. The vibes, decor, and the hidden location off 29 does make it feel like we are in New England. Their boardwalk fries were good but I prefer their onion strings more. The fried whole belly clam was good but it did have a strong seafood/fishy essence that didn't deliver it for me. The cheese quesadilla portion is huge for $8 and my kids loved it. The lobster roll was delish with the succulent lobster meat generously stuffed in a buttery bun. But the star of our meal was actually the north shore roast beef sandwich. The meat was sliced thinly with another generous portion and very flavorful and perfectly rare. I think we would come back for that sandwich alone. The meal here was definitely a nice change of pace and genre from what we normally get when we go out to eat in the area. We went to Ned's two weeks ago on a Sunday. We had the roast beef sandwich and full bellied clams. The roast beef price was very reasonable and quality was outstanding. The clams were a bit expensive but were well done and worth it. We liked it so much, we went back yesterday, a Wednesday. The roast beef was still excellent, but the clams were overcooked and rubbery. In addition, the fried onions were overcooked and burned to a crisp. If this were our first visit, it would have been our last. I mention the day of the week in the speculation there was a different cook. So for now, I will return one more time, on a Sunday, in the hope of a repeat of our first visit. read more
