J Gilberts has become one of my favorite restaurants. Sweet-and-sour sauce alongside the calamari is wonderful. Great steak and seafood. I love the scallops. The bone-in filet is hard to beat and the strip steak is great as well. Very good lobster. I have had some great hamburgers, but their hamburger is the best yet. One gem on the menu is the Cajun filet. Excellent upscale service. read more

Service (Steve was our waiter) and atmosphere were great. Food was a little inconsistent. Steak was overdone (waiter did offer to bring another one) and mashed potatoes were cold. But - the Brussels sprouts and au gratin potatoes were amazing. read more

Mediocre at best. High ticket prices are fine with me if your food is exceptional. We started with pretzel coated onion rings. They were good but there were 4 rings on the plate with enough sauces for plenty of onion rings and the top of the stack was a ring the size of a silver dollar. $9....you can buy a ton of onions for 9 dollars. The gentlemen ordered ck tortilla soup and the presentation was awesome but the broth was cold. No one ever checked after dropping off food. You would have thought that picking up bowls with all the chips and the butter still in the bowl the server might have asked if things were alright. Our steaks arrived rather slowly and mine, ordered m/r was so rare it was cold in the center. We had to flag the waitress to send it back. A man in a sport coat returned it to the table but not a word was said, he laid it on the table and took off.(now it's medium--we'll show you) I assume he was some sort of manager there were several men with jackets on walking around. If you are going to have food runners serving the tables then someone should shortly be behind to see if things are prepared properly or if anything is needed. We asked for water 3 different times. If you are looking for a quiet spot to dine, have good food, and chat this place is not for you. Very loud . So for $235 dollars for 3 I can go elsewhere for an exceptional dinner. read more

Great menu options with a lot of choices. Food was excellent. Staff was a bit slow to get things going when it comes down to taking your order or clearing your table or topping off your drinks. read more

Decided to finish our evening here after a day of shopping. Conveniently located next to West County Mall. I had the 4 oz filet combo with shrimp and wife had vegetable plate. All was delicious and more than enough to share with each other. Serving of iced tea made tableside was an unexpected treat. Decor very nice and intimate. read more

First visit and it most assuredly won't be the last. It was Friday night date night with husband and Wearrived early-evening without reservations. Seating was immediate even though the interior feels small and intimate with limited seating. We were assigned to Jason B., who was both gregarious and quite knowledgeable of the menu. We started with a Caesar salad and pretzel encrusted onion rings. The salad was served with whole anchovies, asiago cheese crisps, and croutons. The dressing was on the heavy side but the flavor was right. The onion rings were accompanied by three sauces, one of which was a house-made barbecue with a smokey flavor. If I HAD to select the least enjoyable menu item, the rings would be it. The batter was bland and failed to stick to the onions very well. We agreed that the parmesan sauce was the most interesting. A fresh-from-the-oven bread loaf was also served on a slate with two types of butter blends. Even as a bread snob by personal admission, that was an awesome bread loaf-- chewy, dense, with a crispy crust. Good stuff to accompany the salad. Husband selected an 8 oz filet medium rare, which he ranked a 10/10 as steaks go. Nice sear, perfectly cooked and seasoned, and juicy. The steak alone determined a return visit is in our future. He selected mushroom risotto and sautéed spinach (Jason's recommendation) as his sides and thoroughly enjoyed both. I chose maple bourbon salmon as my entree. This was magnificent! Juicy, lightly glazed, lovely wood smoke flavor (from the plank) with crispy edges. I would most certainly order this plate again. It was served with fresh, crispy whole green beans and smashed Yukon potatoes that were deliciously creamy and buttery. Not even a crumb was left behind. Dessert consisted of chocolate velvet cake served with a scoop of raspberry ice cream, a dollop of whipped cream and raspberries. The cake included a thick layer of rich chocolate mousse and a layer of chocolate ganache on top. Oh.my.gosh. I could have started with this as my appetizer and completely justified it. We did not feel rushed, the staff was exceptionally courteous and we will be back soon. Everything was wonderful from start to finish. Thanks for a great meal, J Gilbert's and Jason B! read more

Pleasantly surprised, excellent atmosphere, great service. Food was spectacular. Keep up the good work.

Amazing. Amazing. Amazing. The seductive smells lure you in while the atmosphere, food, and service don't disappoint. They're a steakhouse; get the steak. Don't get me wrong, the rest of their menu is very well executed and tastes amazing, but their steak will have you falling in love with a filet. I also must insist you get their creamed corn with burger's bacon. That's right; creamed corn with bacon. My husband and I are fairly sure it's laced with crack, and we're both ok with that. If you like scallops, I highly recommend getting them here. They're perfectly seared meaning they go in your mouth and melt like butter. Now, I know I just talked up some of their main course options, but I'm also going to attempt to convince you to leave room for dessert because their chocolate cake is to die for. Oh. My. God. Their service is great and very much appreciated. We will become regulars and you should too. You're welcome. read more

This is one of my all time favorite place to eat in St. Louis. The service is always exceptional and the food delicious. The one time the service was slower than normal I wasn't charged for the meal with zero prompting on my part. The location is extremely convenient too since I often want to eat lunch or early dinner after shopping. read more

Ashley was our server, and provided us with a great dining experience. We were celebrating our birthdays as they are very close together. Ashley assisted us in selecting from the great food items on the menu and made our celebrating a big success. We were not hurried or rushed and thoroughly enjoyed the food, the service and the dining experience. We will continue to include J. Gilberts in enjoying great food and service in our future special occasions as we celebrate good parts of our lives. read more

Very enjoyable dinner at this restaurant. We shared 2 entrees of a grilled vegetable platter and steak and shrimp dinner. There were 7 different grilled vegetables--all cooked and seasoned well. The steak was tender and the shrimp tasty. My iced tea was steeped and made table side--I've never seen this done before! The sourdough bread was freshly baked. Our waiter was knowledgeable and responsive to our needs. Really enjoyed our meal here! read more

Just had an excellent lunch. The lobster Cobb salad was great! Mom had the grilled vegetables, had an awesome hickory smoked flavor. Will definitely be back to try a steak! read more

Thankful for the free birthday meal. Again, we had an amazing dining experience at J. Gilbert's and look forward to many more returns. Our waitress, Ashley, was professional, well-informed, and exceedingly courteous. The filets and scallops were divine! Completing the evening with the decadent chocolate cake was a splurge worth every calorie! This is fast becoming our favorite place to dine! read more

We had another outstanding meal at J Gilbert's. Sunday is half price wine night so we started with a great red wine. The calamari appetizer was tender and delicious. We ordered 2 versions of the filet combo. One with crab cake and one with scallops. Both were excellent. Grilled asparagus was perfect and the Lobster Mac and cheese and the au gratin potatoes were decadent sides. You can't go wrong with any of the entrees here. I do not know why it wasn't busier! read more

Another dinner with customers another success!!! The steak and scallops were amazing and our waiter was wonderful!

Great ambiance. Food is excellent. I had the scallops, which were cooked just right. My boyfriend had the porterhouse steak, which he described as the best steak he's ever had. We enjoyed going here- the food is delicious albeit a bit pricy. read more

I never wanted to say that a mall-attached restaurant would be a favorite, but I have to admit that J Gilbert's has fast become our favorite steak house in St Louis. I grill a lot steak and typically am disappointed by what I find in restaurants (I am paying how much for this?), but J Gilbert's does things I definitely cannot do, and at a price that ends up being a MUCH better deal than the Ruth Chris's of the world. We also really like the atmosphere and decor. They've done a good job making it feel classy but comfortable at the same time. It's great stuff! read more

Went with a group and had a great superset room. Food was pretty good but others in the party were disappointed with their cowboy steaks. Service was very good. A bit pricey but nothing unusual in comparison to peers. read more

We ate at j Gilbert's today for lunch. Everything was very tasty. It's definitely worth checking out for a special occasion. They even heard a friend tell me happy birthday while we were standing waiting to get seated. Once seated they gave me a nice card with a hand written note and free dessert. That was super nice and a total surprise!! I had the crab melt and side salad combo. For $14 the crab melt was small. It came on what looked like slices of mini bread slices. The salad was very tasty. A friend had the sliders which were a good size so maybe I just picked a small option. For dessert we had the coconut cake which was to die for. read more

We went here to celebrate our anniversary, and were not disappointed. The food was very good, as was the service. Our server had great recommendations---and we were glad we took his advice. read more

Overall, a new go to place. The steaks were full of flavor, tender, and perfectly cooked. The crab cake appetizer was almost pure crab--delicious. Creme brûlée was huge and good. Service was friendly, attentive and on point. The only sour food note was the apple croustade. The crust looked tough and it was. Boring and flavorless. What almost ruined the night for us, however? We had reservations in place for 2 weeks. Arrived 5 minutes early. And were seated at the bar! Thankfully the service was so good, my annoyance faded. But still, for a $200 dinner, I don't want to watch football on TVs and watch tipsy people falling over each other. read more

Finally we try this fabulous place ! Started with the crab cakes, pricey but very tasty , 3 toppings to add to the adventure. Next , the crab bisque . Served interestingly . The bowl empty except for the crab in the center, then the piping hot bisque pored around the crab meat. Excellent flavor. The steak and scallops were very good, though I must admit the scallops were about the best I've had. Steaks done to the desired wellness . And the shrimp, were good, large, but not as notable as the scallops. The creme brûlée was awesome . We have enjoyed steaks as good elsewhere for less, but the whole experience was was a treat. read more

We have eaten at your restaurant on quite a few times and was there on Tuesday for the Jack Daniels Whiskey Dinner. It was FANTASTIC!! That was the first time I have had something other than a steak but the food, entertainment, company and staff were wonderful. I thought you all should know this. read more

I love steak and have been to virtually every establishment in the St Louis market. This restaurant is hands down the best option around. The steak is melt in your mouth quality with a delicious wood fired taste. The sides are also delicious and fresh along with the fresh baked breads. This is all combined with great service. Servers are very good at their profession and manager usually stops by to check on you. It is expensive, but most entrees include sides and the food quality is much better than Annie Guns (for example) at a comparable price. read more

We went to J. Gilberts on my birthday. The food was great. The server was attentive and WOW a free desert. What else could one ask for

Awesome dining experience once again. I have eaten here twice and they just nail it! Great service, food, ambiance, the works. I had the filet each time with scallops and asparagus, and a nice red wine. I will definitely be going back. read more

One word describes- Outstanding. Pleasant atmosphere, attention to preparation, attention to the customer. Anyone can prepare vegetables but to prepare them right to complement an excellently prepared steak takes skill and Gilbert's has the skill. We went here for our Anniversary on a Friday night and it was not busy at all. We ordered the seafood platter appetizer ($55) and the waiter forgot to order it. Then after a 45 min wait we received our food. My steak medium rare steak was well done and sent it back. Then they brought me rare steak which had to be sent back. Service was terrible and food was substandard for the price. Never going back. read more

The decor was nice, but for the price, the food was a bit mediocre. Also, we had a terrible waitress, a which is never acceptable at the end of a long day. Although this food may be better than what's available in the area, i would rather drive a little farther into the city for a good meal. I wouldn't go back. read more

We celebrated our 52nd anniversary recently at J. Gilberts. The door was opened for us upon entering the restaurant, which was special. We were brought to a booth by the fireplace. Joseph, our very friendly waiter, was very knowledgeable and helpful to us in our menu choices. My husband had the New York Strip and I the filet mignon. We had salad baked potato and asparagus. The steaks were grilled to perfection and seasoned very favorably. We have never had as excellent service as we had with Joseph. He made our anniversary celebration truly special. We absolutely will return and will highly recommend J. Gilbert's. Thank you, Joseph! read more

My husband took me to J.Gilbert's for my BD dinner last week and we both had a great experience. Our waiter, Joseph M. was wonderful. He was attentive and friendly. I'd ask for his table again next time we dine at J. Gilbert's. The food was great and the wine was perfect( thanks to Joseph for his recommendation). Since it was my BD, J.Gilbert's sent to my table a complementary dessert. Thank you!!!! read more

We are hooked and visit often. Food is always delicious and the service is consistently top notch. I actually had 2 birthday dinners this year and both were celebrated at J Gilbert's!
