No sooner did we sit down, we were eating the breakfasts we ordered. I had the fried chicken layered with bacon and cheese covered with a biscuit and smothered with gravy (Mr. October). My son had the smoked pork chop, and my girls each had french toast with berries. Our two pets each got their own meal from the "Pup menu". They ate so fast. All staff members were super great, and very helpful. The bar there serves patrons outside as well as inside. Three areas make up the whole restaurant. J-DUB is a nice downtown spot, particularly in the back on the patio or the small bar when the weather is good. The front part has been a ghost town every time I've been but maybe it gets busy at other times. - Draft beer list is good but certainly not a standout here in beertown. They do feature local beers though, which is a plus. Prices are in line with other places. A glass of wine, however, is a bit expensive. But that too seems to be typical. - The small bar I mentioned is too small. There are also a few inside tables in the bar area and several patios tables that are much more inviting. And this from a dedicated bar sitting person. You can also sit at the bar outside but I find the stools to be about three or four inches too low relative to the counter top, which makes it uncomfortable. The stools themselves are quite uncomfortable. - J-DUB's menu is typical bar food, although I know the kitchen staff takes pride in their craft. I just don't see it reflected on what they offer. The burger is fine but not one of the best in Bend. My vegetarian spouse is not terribly impressed. - Barkeeps are super friendly in the Bend way. J-DUB is one of those places in Bend where I want it to be good because everyone else likes it and I live near downtown. I like downtown pubs. If I had friends who wanted to meet up here, I'd happily go and have a good time. But ... J-DUB is just not a destination for me. They need a larger draft list, better bar stools, and if you want my wife to come too, a better menu and maybe a nice glass of $5 pinot gris. A-OK, which is not bad. read more

Wow! Stopped in here in April on our way through Bend in April. Ordered the clam chowder... it had a very strong and peculiar flavor. Certainly not like any New England style clam chowder I've eaten in the last 60+ years. It was inedible, I sent it back. The server was very kind and understanding. I was not charged for the chowder. Fast forward to tonight. My wife and I are in town again. Thought we would give you another try... very sorry about that! I thought I would order something simple, breakfast for dinner. Biscuits and gravy, with two eggs over medium. The biscuits were HARD! The gravy was peculiar tasting. The eggs were cooked hard. Our server was very gracious, and sent my meal back to the kitchen. Second time around, biscuits were still very dry and hard. Gravy is not a good interpretation of country gravy. Eggs were OK. I was only charged for my wife's meal. I appreciate that, but I'm hungry tonight. I only wish I could turn back time, and have chosen any place else. read more

I am a Californian who was traveling through Bend with our dog and was glad we came across J DUB. J DUB had tasty food options for our party, which included vegetarian options and lettuce wrapping my burger! We came for dinner and the food was definitely filling and heavy. However, was definitely the vibe! They also have a doggy menu and our dog loved to get a treat. Even before we were handed a dog menu, the staff offered a water bowl for our dog which was sweet and very much needed for the heat! The pictures of the Mr. OCTOBER AND CHICKEN FRIED CHICKEN, were absolutely on point and lead us to the best meal of the weekend. We serve seated right away inside which was very nice! When we were seated we realized it was just past 12pm. And we were devistated to think we missed out on breakfast. We asked our server if there was any way we could still order from that menu and she said it was fine. What a relief! We are definitely breakfast lovers over lunch. 2 of us ordered the chicken fried chicken. For me I asked to substitute the sweet potato tots! I saw them on the plate next to us and they looked crispy. My husband orded the Mr. October and daughter ordered biscuits and gravy. Let's just say, to begin with we almost always try the chicken fried steak or chicken when on vacation. It's our favorite. The sauce was not only made from scratch, but it had tons of sausage with an explosion of flavor. But the best part was the chicken fried chicken was breaded and fried to perfection. When you feel the crunch as you cut it while being drenched in gravy, you know they executed it to perfection! Perfect over easy eggs and a fluffy made from catch biscuit. The sweet potatoe tots were the perfect substitute for the Obrien potatoes my son had. They added just a touch of sweet to accent the savory CFC. The house sauce in the bottle was delicious as well. Mayo, catsup, horseradish type sauce gave it a kick. The Mr. October sounded so good from my husband. The bacon with fried chicken breast stuffed in a biscuit covered with sausage gravey, oh and some scrambled eggs inside, he was in heaven. Usually I would ask for a bite but I was in euphoria myself with my CFC. Next time, I would probably ask for a slice of bacon on my CFC to bring the two dishes together. He probably would have liked over easy eggs on his Mr. October but didn't think it was an option. The surprise was the side of Blueberry Pancakes my son ordered to split with my husband. I had a bite and they were the most incredible tasting pancakes I have ever had at a restaurant. Tasted hardy, different than just white flour blah pancakes. It tasted almost like a little cinnamon in there. Amazing! I asked for some jam and they had some rasberry freezer jam packets that kicked it up a knotch. The plastic screens between each booth in the back were a Covid precaution addition. I can understand why. I actually didn't mind it. Makes each table seem more private. The servers were sooo friendly. At the end I asked her to thank the chef for doing a breakfast order after 12pm. I heard her go back and tell them. Thanks! If we weren't going to have the chance to have breakfast I probably would have gone to one of the other restaurants on my list. Yesterday we waited about 45 minutes to get a table at Chow. I will review them later. The flavors there were very good and unique. The Corned Beef Hash bowl was to die for that my husband shared with me. BUT their chicken fried steak was soggy and the steak was just a steak, not even a pounded tender piece like you would have expected. The blue cheese and mushrooms did add to an explosion of flavor. To start this place is located on Bond street so great location close to tons of things to do. We come to Bend often and are always looking for the best breakfast spots. Safe to say our search had ended. Inside is very inviting and cozy. The wait stuff was absolutely amazing. Boyden (probably spelled his name wrong) but he was on top of it and so kind. Great place to bring kids they had tables covered in paper with crayons so they kids stayed busy. (We joined in on the drawing as well!) we ordered bloody Mary's and espresso martini which did not disappoint. I wish I took pictures but we were enjoying ourselves so much I didn't even think to. We got our food fairly quickly especially considering they were a packed house. The food was phenomenal to say the least. We ordered chicken fried steak and the breakfast chimichangas. Cooked to perfection Crispy and great portions sizes. We ended up all taking to go boxes because we couldn't finish. The burgers were also very good, though I can't say they were the best I've ever had. The J Dub burger was quite good. The egg was just right - not too runny to mess up the burger, but just soft enough to have great flavor. It also featured some kind of ham or spam between the patties that added a great saltiness. Pickles were very good. My wife and daughter both enjoyed the regular cheeseburgers as well. The only thing that keeps the burgers from reaching 5 star level was the patties themselves. They were very good, but I prefer thicker, juicier meat made to order (medium). Still, the burgers were very good, just not the very best. I was excited that this place wasn't super busy on a Saturday night. The menu looked solid and the staff were all incredibly nice, but the lack of patrons made me think the food might not be great. Good was good to slightly above average. It was about what you'd expect for a grill of this type. I'd go back for sure but nothing was particularly memorable. What was memorable was the service. They were very nice and personable. My wife and I were there out of town and wanted to watch game 7 of the Stanley cup final and they allowed us to sit the whole time and gave us a wonderful seat where we could watch the game. Great spot that we stumbled upon late on a Saturday evening. A lot of variety on the menu. Burgers were juicy and delicious, with fresh toppings and a special sauce. Added a bacon and egg to top it off. Sweet potato fries were fantastic. Can't miss on the appetizers. Bar in the back; family friendlies in the front.
