This place is amazing! They have a wonderful outdoor area that accommodates dogs. They even have a dog menu which is an awesome option. The food was super delicious! We were staying down the street for the night and before we took off on the road the next morning we looked on Yelp for a good breakfast joint. (they are open for other meals besides breakfast, btw) I saw JDub and we decided to walk there, but was worried there would be a long wait. Luckily, we were seated right away. They had some wonderfully unique breakfast choices. Including some fun breakfast cocktails. I had to get the Mr October which is chicken, egg and cheese in a biscuit covered with sausage gravy. The restaurant was clean and it is family-oriented, so the tables are covered in paper and crayons are supplied if anyone wants to have some artistic fun!We ordered breaded cheese curds, a lobster roll and the chicken parm sandwich. For drinks we had a Guinness and Huckleberry lemonade. The drinks were spot on. My son LOVED the lemonade. The cheese curds were also all right. I let him be the judge bc I'm not a huge fan of fried cheese to begin with. 5/5 he says. The lobster roll just didn't do it for me. It was "meh". I've had real lobster rolls in the past and this wasn't the same. I don't think it was real lobster, as it had kind of a sweet taste to it and there was a lot of it (not complaining, but thinking I would have received less of it was real lobster). So, it was a hefty sandwich, but didn't hit the "lobster roll" mark for me. My son said that the best thing about the chicken parm sandwich was the pesto sauce. Otherwise, it was pretty bland. Cooked all right, just meh. Their sauces are delicious though. They had their own fries sauce and we got a ranch side with the fried cheese and it was SO good. Service with Becky was great too. I had a side of clam chowder which was tasty but a bit thick. My husband had the Cajun scramble which he really enjoyed. The potatoes were cubed and fried, crunchy, moist and tender in the center, my favorite style of home fried breakfast potatoes. I stole a few off his plate. We went here wholly based on the Yelp profile (we are from out of town). It said "better than Deschutes"... nope. It said "Vegan options"... nope (nada, zero). It said "vegetarian options"... if you count a single veggie burger and a side of home fries as sufficient menu options. My friend wasn't able to eat anything as even the oil for the tots was used for chicken and fish. Really sad. My other friend had a Ron Swanson basic cheeseburger... meat, cheese, basic. I had the caprese chicken sandwich... it was pretty good, once I trimmed off the BROWN lettuce (see pic). The IPA was the best thing on the table. Our waiter was not enthusiastic, and was completely unapologetic that one person wasn't able to eat anything from the menu. We sat in the front area... perhaps the back area / patio had better ambience, but friends... this place has the ambiance and food of a BASIC DINER that's leaning towards being a brewery. JB's serves various American comfort food in a woodsy, ski/snowboard themed contemporary restaurant feeling. Seating options include a main room with various table seating and partial booth, a couple other areas with some seating, and a nice sized bar with table top and bar seating. Like some other Oregon establishments (that includes some form of gambling) there's a couple video pokers available to play on. Staff was kind/friendly, treated us well and even told us about somethings to try (such as a hotter than usual Bloody Mary that's made with a special habanero infused vodka) The menu features various appetizers (or ask they call them snacks), burgers, sandwiches, salads, and other entrees (a taco, fish and chips etc). I liked reading their menu with some funny names to various things (My Girlfriend's Not Hungry is a side of fries. That's hilarious) Little Boy Blue - Grilled onions, sauteed mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle smothered blue cheese sauuce and served on a telera roll. I had been curious about J Dub for over a year. Did my research and finally our friends wanted to have dinner at J Dub's too. We were a party of four. Arrived Thursday evening at 5:30 with the place empty. Our server Skye was pleasant , confused and funny. The confused part were questions over Sweet Potato Fries and regular Fries. How are they cooked ? Crispy, shoe string ? Through her for a loop. We ordered a Veggie Burger, Grilled Chicken Sandwhich, Fish and Chips, and a Lobster Roll. No criticism on the Chicken sandwich or Lobster Roll. I had the Fish and Chips. Three medium size pieces of Panko crusted cod fish. In my opinion the Panko crumbs dry out the fish. There could have been more Sweet Potato Fries for a dish that costs $18 . My wife had the Veggie Burger. Dry but when adding the fixings was ok. No one was sitting in the front area and we were seated right away so I was a little nervous. I said why is no one here a couple times to my wife. Food was fine too. Nothing terrible but didn't rush to go back either. Hubby and daughter said their burgers were pretty good. I got the one without the bun. It was fine too, although I wished I had ordered one of the other burgers and asked them to hold the bun. Mine was pretty plain and was a single patty. On the others you could order a double which I would've preferred. Overall not bad but nothing special. Seems like there are a lot of burger places out here and none are that great. read more

J Dub, rejuvenating my confidence American restaurants, makes a great burger. We ordered the generic American double cheeseburger and fries and the fish and chips. There were some more unique burgers on the menu but we wanted to keep it simple. The fish and chips was also quite good. The fish tasted like it had been prepared on site rather than snatched out of the freezer and thrown in the fryer, but I could be mistaken. We would recommend both items. When we walked in the front door, there appeared to be plenty of families having lunch, including some kids that were having a post baseball game celebration. We opted for the back patio. It was a basic patio, and completely empty on the brisk day. I thought people were more rugged out west. Blown away with the glazed donut burger. It was so stinking unique and magically delicious (stealing Lucky Charm's ad campaign from the 80s). Still scratching my head that I ate a donut and a cheeseburger all in one and I didn't want to die afterwards from calorie overload. I want another one today. The clam chowder maybe also one of my favorite clam chowders I've had. I love the one from Ox in Portland and this rivaled it. The deviled eggs were some unique sweet potatoe variety. They were good as well as the Texas burger with the candied bacon. But the show stopper at this amazing find was that donut burger!!! Way to think out of the box and nail it. No sooner did we sit down, we were eating the breakfasts we ordered. I had the fried chicken layered with bacon and cheese covered with a biscuit and smothered with gravy (Mr. October). My son had the smoked pork chop, and my girls each had french toast with berries. Our two pets each got their own meal from the "Pup menu". They ate so fast. All staff members were super great, and very helpful. The bar there serves patrons outside as well as inside. Three areas make up the whole restaurant. Wow! Stopped in here in April on our way through Bend in April. Ordered the clam chowder... it had a very strong and peculiar flavor. Certainly not like any New England style clam chowder I've eaten in the last 60+ years. It was inedible, I sent it back. The server was very kind and understanding. I was not charged for the chowder. Fast forward to tonight. My wife and I are in town again. Thought we would give you another try... very sorry about that! I thought I would order something simple, breakfast for dinner. Biscuits and gravy, with two eggs over medium. The biscuits were HARD! The gravy was peculiar tasting. The eggs were cooked hard. Our server was very gracious, and sent my meal back to the kitchen. Second time around, biscuits were still very dry and hard. Gravy is not a good interpretation of country gravy. Eggs were OK. I was only charged for my wife's meal. J-DUB is a nice downtown spot, particularly in the back on the patio or the small bar when the weather is good. The front part has been a ghost town every time I've been but maybe it gets busy at other times. - Draft beer list is good but certainly not a standout here in beertown. They do feature local beers though, which is a plus. Prices are in line with other places. A glass of wine, however, is a bit expensive. But that too seems to be typical. - The small bar I mentioned is too small. There are also a few inside tables in the bar area and several patios tables that are much more inviting. And this from a dedicated bar sitting person. You can also sit at the bar outside but I find the stools to be about three or four inches too low relative to the counter top, which makes it uncomfortable. The stools themselves are quite uncomfortable. - J-DUB's menu is typical bar food, although I know the kitchen staff takes pride in their craft. I just don't see it reflected on what they offer. The burger is fine but not one of the best in Bend. My vegetarian spouse is not terribly impressed. - Barkeeps are super friendly in the Bend way. J-DUB is one of those places in Bend where I want it to be good because everyone else likes it and I live near downtown. I like downtown pubs. If I had friends who wanted to meet up here, I'd happily go and have a good time. But ... J-DUB is just not a destination for me. They need a larger draft list, better bar stools, and if you want my wife to come too, a better menu and maybe a nice glass of $5 pinot gris. A-OK, which is not bad. read more
