If you'd asked me a year ago, I'd be giving this location of J' Alexander's a 5 star rating. However, aa of late, their service and their food has been hit or miss. Today they undercooked my husband's burger and their fix was then to overcook it. I ordered the Thai Kai salad and there was hardly any lettuce but had a ton of those crunchy noodles. I also found 2 chicken bones in it and chicken was not seasoned at all. They gave us a reduced price but I basically left without eating. When the manager came out, he spoke to all bar guests except us. We've been frequenting J's for years but they have gone downhill as of late.if only today's experience were the first bad experience we've had there! read more

It has always been a 50/50 shot things turn out right when we come here and today was the lesser. As usual they never try to accommodate with vegan options. They have "1" veggie burger on the menu " is this all they think vegans eat?" I asked if they could give me the roasted veggies and they advised no because they are pre made on the kabobs. Wow. My husband who does eat meat asked for his New York strip medium rare and it came out over cooked. So as he is waiting for it to be re- made of course I am sharing the only think I can eat here which is the orzo rice and a baked potato because the asparagus they originally brought out was dried skinny over cooked and OVER salted. Thought this place was pretty great! Was just missing that little spark to get it to the a 5 star. To start we had the daily ahi tuna special and the loaded potato soup. The ahi tuna was perfectly cooked. Had a nice salad to go with it in the plate and the sauce over it was a nice flavor. The loaded potato soup was really good! Would recommend both of these. For our entrees, all our meals were quiet delicious. I did order my steak medium rare and it was perfectly cooked but a little cold. Most likely just had to wait for the other meals to finish but it was still amazing. All the meals were including dessert were truly yummy and was shocked of the size of the meals. I visited J. Alexander's for an after work steak. I haven't had a J. Alexander's steak in a couple years, I remembered their steak was good but omg I think they've gotten even better at making steaks or I could've just been really hungry LOL. I Ordered the Filet Mignon with Bearnise, sooo good and perfectly medium. My friend ordered the steak Maui which she loved and is also her go to steak, I tried a bite of that but it was too sweet for what I wanted in a steak. Love the atmosphere here also nice and elegant. Also wanted to speak on our wonderful waiter J, he was super helpful and friendly. J, made us very comfortable and never let our drinks empty. Great tasting food and presentation, excellent service, cozy but contemporary atmosphere. Not entirely too ritzy, neither casual. Noise and lighting level were perfect, good jazzy background music. Stopped in for Friday night wine and dinner with no reservation. 45 minute wait for two, so instead we sat at one of he many seating options at the full service bar area. Although we did have to track down a server after waiting about 15 mins, once we were served, everything was prompt and polite! We were well attended-to by servers. This was an exceptional overall dining experience and this restaurant did not disappoint in the food area either! I had the sushi and it was probably the best rainbow roll I have ever had. I would have given 5 stars if prices for main dishes would have been a couple of dollars cheaper, but the experience was worth the price in the long run. We came here on a whim and we will definitely be back. Cocktail menu was fun and the wine list was extensive. Cocktails were a bit strong but I don't think that is a bad thing. There are so many complaints these days about bad service, but I have to say our service here was phenomenal. Autumn was our waitress and she was so kind and attentive. Was in town for the weekend and craved for some prime rib. J. Alexander's was the closest and looks like some people spoke highly of the prime rib there. It was a 12 oz portion for $39 and I was quoted an additional $2.50 per ounce for a larger cut. Went with the 16 oz. I was underwhelmed. The prime rib had a large piece of fat on the end which I'm sure was accounted for with the 16 oz. The beef itself didn't seem like a prime grade, maybe choice. The mashed potatoes were good but that's not why I was there. When I received the bill, I was charged an additional $3 per ounce. Didn't feel like making any trouble for an additional $2, so whatever. Overall, if you are intending to come here for prime rib, I'd suggest looking elsewhere. read more

Eddy is usually the server I get and he does nothing but give top tier service suggests they right wine or liquor to go with my steak & my husbands beer preference. Went out with a few friends for dinner and it started out just fine. Waitress was very accommodating and we had no issues with service. The food on the other hand was not what I expected and was charged for. I order the Alex salad, $7 bucks and basically was bagged salad that was mostly cabbage, no real lettuce and a few pieces of tomato and cucumber. The waitress suggested I get some protein so I ordered salmon on my salad. The fish was very good, 6oz. I get the bill and they charged me $22 dollars for my salad. Okay so lesson learned don't get protein added without asking first since it's not listed on the menu. My family frequents J Alexanders for special occasions and celebrations. This is a more upscale establishment and probably best to make a reservation as they do tend to get pretty busy. Plenty of parking in the lot. They have an ok beer selection but plenty of cocktails and wines. Every time I go, I get the veggie platter which isn't listed on the menu but can be requested. You get your choice of 4 veggies (which can actually include mac n' cheese if you're so inclined). The orzo and wild rice is a must try (unfortunately not GF). Their brussels and butternut squash are also delicious. The broccoli and loaded sweet potato can be passed up in my opinion, there's nothing too special about either of them. They do give out complimentary desserts for birthdays, so last night our family got the lava cake and ice cream. Would not recommend the lava cake, we all agreed it tasted plastic-y. The ice cream, however, is delicious. The service here is always fantastic. read more

J. Alexander's is a great place for date night! The food is excellent and our server was fantastic. We waited awhile for a table, but that was to be expected on a Friday night at Easton. The only downside to the restaurant is that it's very loud, and it seems designed to amplify noise. We started with the smoked salmon dip, which was delicious. My husband got crab cakes and he was very happy with them (even I thought they were good and I don't typically like crab cakes). 4 1/2 Stars for this place... I read Mike D's review this morning which peeked my interest in visiting a J. Alex's for the first time in many years. It's a totally new restaurant at Easton, just completed and very nice. To get a mind picture about the look and feel, think Frank Lloyd Wright's Falling Waters House meets contemporary lodge - in other words very open, warm and inviting. They have a very unique wrap around bar that sits in the center of the restaurant which is very cool. Their menu is not overwhelming and is in fact somewhat small and centered on steaks, sandwiches, small plates and some seafood items. Their wine list is also moderately sized and priced. From my past experience with other J. Alex's, they are sticklers for excellence in food quality and presentation which was also the case here. I ordered the Grilled Cold Water Salmon and it was really good. The filet was thick and perfectly cooked through but still very moist and tender. It was served with a creamy house made aoili which was perfect for this dish. Esteban recommended Orzo & Wild Rice as the accompaniment but I couldn't make up my mind so I chose the french fries which worked for me. By surprise, the french fries were shoestrings and they were really good. The service I received from Esteban was very good. He was attentive and polite as I would expect from a restaurant of this caliber. He made a few recommendations for lunch which I appreciated. Kudos to him also for getting me 4 slices of lemon for my water instead of the usual one that most servers bring. Nice touch. I'd ask for him again without hesitation. The only thing I would really take points away from them for is the lack of two sides with my meal. I kept thinking that a little less potatoes but with some asparagus, steamed veggies...something green would have made this meal a little more complete. We made a 6:30 reservation for a party of 5. Arrived early by 10 minutes and no table was available. They proposed seating us on their patio that was damp and muggy. We declined this table. We pointed out an empty round table in the restaurant that would accommodate 5 people. They replied that table was being held for a 7:00 reservation. Why their reservation was of greater priority, I do not know. An assistant manager was of no help. We called a Cameron Mitchell restaurant that was able to accommodate our party. I have enjoyed J. My mom and I came here last night after doing a little Christmas shopping in the area. It was a bit of a crowd since it was prime dinner hours but we did not have but a 10 minute wait. Our waitress was on point coming back and forth to make sure we needed anything (refills, questions, etc. but not to the extent of buggin us lol). We both ordered the steak rolls. I ordered a side of mac and cheese and she had a side of salad. Their mac and cheese is honestly like my favorite. Like it really is perfect! Prepared just right. Great first experience. This location is easy to access and plenty of parking nearby. The outward design of the restaurant is beautiful. I was a little confused to find 2 TVs randomly placed in the middle of the restaurant and the seating areas were a mix of booths and tables. It reminds me of an upscale sportsbar. Besides the appearance we had an overall great experience. I read other reviews that were pretty harsh but I think the key to this restaurant is knowing what to order. I will say the steaks are hands down their specialty and I would put them up against the best, however, sushi and deviled eggs, not sure. The service was excellent and the timing of the food was spot on. We happily paid our large bill and made a commitment that we would come back again. By the way, that maui steak is to die for. We went here for dinner with some family this weekend. The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice and definitely has a romantic vibe with low lighting. There were a variety of people there: a 40th girls night bday party, some people on dates, and some groups of friends. My husband and I started with the calamari appetizer. It wasn't amazing, but it wasn't bad either. It's the basic calamari rings you can get at SAMs of GFS and it came with a side of marinara. My husband also asked for a side of ranch, which they never sent out. For dinner, I ordered the crab cakes, which came with a side of fries. My husband ordered the ahi tuna salad. Again, my crab cakes were "ok" not amazing, but not bad either. They come drizzled with a chili Mayo which was good. They were served with shoe string fries, which I am a fan on. My husbands salad was kind of small for an entree salad so he ended up eating one of my crab cakes. We also ordered dessert which was their chocolate bundt cake with vanilla ice cream and hot fudge. The dessert was huge.. like enough for 3 people huge. It was VERY decadent, so just keep that in mind. Overall, I feel like this place is okay. Although my wife likes the other J Alexander's location better, we both really enjoy these two restaurants. The one thing my wife always enjoys ordering is the Alex salad. The restaurant has slightly changed how they present it, but that's not a problem, since they will customize it just the way my wife likes it. Now that's service. The one thing we did notice on our last visit was the food was just a tad too salty for our liking. My husband and I dined here last Friday evening for his birthday and had a great and memorable time! We had reservations and I am glad that we did as the restaurant (which is pretty big in size) was pretty full. Upon arrival, we noticed that the restaurant has valet (just in case future patrons do not feel like walking through the parking lot). After we provided our name for our reservation, the hosts all wished my husband a "Happy Birthday" which was nice. We were then seated at a table near the kitchen. Our area was nice as it was dimly lit with candles on the tables and a perfect view of all the chefs hard at work. My husband started the night off with a CBC IPA ($6) and I started with the Elite Margarita ($12). I enjoyed my margarita. It was a little strong, but not something that I am going to complain about. We decided to order an appetizer as well. We ordered the Mexican City Spinach Con Queso ($13). It was SOOO good! We actually mixed in the salsa that comes on the side with the queso and it made the dip perfect! The queso was nice and thick and had the best flavor! It was a huge serving too! The queso was served with homemade crispy tortilla chips too! We were only able to enjoy the queso for a few minutes before our entrees were served! Speedy service! My husband had the Sliced Ribeye with Mashed Potatoes ($41) which he thoroughly enjoyed and I had the Prime Rib with Mashed Potatoes ($31) which I really enjoyed! We also ordered the NYO Mac and Cheese ($6) as an additional side. My husband said that the ribeye was very tender and had amazing flavor. My prime rib was also very tender and had great flavor. I will proclaim that this was hands down the best prime rib that I have had in Columbus. I have had several friends tell me about the amazing prime rib before and am glad that I finally took them up on their recommendation because this prime rib was - melt in your mouth - oh so good! I also ordered a side of "horsey sauce" and it was seriously the best horsey sauce that I have had as well. It was so thick and full of flavor! We both enjoyed the mashed potatoes. This was a birthday dinner for my mom and I hadn't been here in awhile, but it didn't disappoint! I got a French dip sandwich with a baked potato and my mom got the Prime Rib. Let me tell you.... that baked potato was heavenly, I could've had like 3 of them! I used a fair amount of butter and then added the cheese and bacon on top....amen! We selected based on the allure of online reviews however we found it lacking much of what we would expect at a 50 dollar a person establishment. We dine out up to 4 times a week and have had some of the best and the worst in Columbus. Now with all the bad there was so good the hostess paid attention to our reservation and wished us a happy anniversary on arrival. The restaurant was at a great volume not to loud but not silent. The bad the food overall i had a better steak at about 1/3rd the price, my mashed potatoes were cold and burnt. We are not complainers because me and my wife have worked in food service and it is not the wait staffs fault when food is poor. The ribeye ($40) is not a ribeye cut and staff just argued about it. Manager took it off of check but we would have much rather have had a good date night. ****************************** I stopped in about a month ago, although I had never been to a J. Alexanders. I decided to have a martini and the avocado bomb. I was pleasantly surprised that the martini came with a side car. Since I ordered a Greygoose dirty martini and the cost was significant ($14), I was glad to see a little extra. When talking with the server, she told Me that customers appreciate that they are the only Place around that does that. I agreed. Now, apparently there was an issue with happy hour martinis getting out of control, police having to be called, people getting wasted off of $3 happy hour martinis, so J. Alexander's has to stop that. I had never been there during this time, and to be honest, if I had, I would not have gone back. I'm fine with spending $14 for a good drink in a classy environment. Yesterday, I was out shopping and decided to stop in for the avocado bomb and a Greygoose martini. The martini glass was half full. The side car was half full. Didn't even ask me if I want olives. So the entire thing was about one glass full. When I inquired about it, one of the servers replied, "well it's 3 ounces...that looks about right." She didn't even look at me. The male bartender literally argued with me, walked away and proceeded to laugh with the other servers quite loudly, in an "in-your-face" sort of way. There was a visiting bartender from another J. Alexander's that I asked to make me another martini. This one was much better. Another $14. Most of the servers at this location are unprofessional. To describe this place as "classy" is reaching. Wow, big letdown. Beef kabob was not available so a replacement meal had to be ordered. Wrong side dish came out with the replacement meal. Other smaller service issues from wait staff. When the bill came, the beef kabob was on the bill plus the replacement meal. From a corp standpoint, the bill presents recommended gratuity BUT the amount includes the tax so it's based on the grand total of the bill. That's really bad!!!! read more
