What a fabulous place
Wendy J.

Visited the chophouse for a second time while visiting Columbus. This is your must go to spot. The ambience is fabulous with the neon lights and the crushed velvet seating. The bar is amazing. The food selection is great and everything I ordered was just fabulous. I had a glass of the Oberon Cabernet. It was so good. The wait staff was so professional and knowledgeable. I had the octopus and deviled eggs and spicy crab salad for a starter and then the blackened salmon for my entrée. Everyone was very happy with their meals. I'm sure this place is amazing for Valentine's Day and New Year's Eve or any time for that matter!! if you haven't gone treat yourself and go.

Truffle pasta

food: 10/10, I will dream about the truffle pasta for as long as I live. friends said the lobster mac and cheese made them believe in god. drinks: delicious, although the martini was a lil nauseatingly sweet. vibes: this is where it loses a star or two. the staff were very kind, waitstaff were attentive, but it was kinda loud. we were 6 girlies celebrating a birthday and it was reallly hard to hear anyone talking, that was the only thing that I would change. I'll definitely be back for that pasta though. game changer.

Rainbow sushi roll

The vibes are immaculate. The music is upbeat yet not too loud, the bar is stunning and the valentines balloons are one of a kind and such a great statement. We ordered the rainbow roll and the Mac and cheese plain. The sushi was fresh and perfectly balanced. The mac and cheese was creamy and the rigatoni noodles were great. I love the option to add lobster and/or truffle. We are heading to Privé later, it's a good late night spot to check out for drinks. A great dish to share! Chop is lovely, the staff and kind and helpful and the atmosphere was relaxing and fun.

So, I actually want to give 3.5 stars, but I don't think that's an option. I went to Chophouse for a Girl's Night Out/birthday dinner and we were looking for glamourous and fun. They definitely delivered on that front. The food was very good, but the service was kind of scattershot, bouncing between great and kind of off. The restaurant is very buzzy and glam inside, lots of white marble, velvet banquets, and touches of hot pink lights and art work, along with funky fake trees. Pretty much just what you want for a fancy night out! It is also rather dark in there, so sorry about the photo quality! I arrived first, and though there is a small sign stating that incomplete parties will not be seated, they took me through to our table right away. One of my friends arrived later and was seated at a different table where she sat by herself for about 10 minutes until she came to find the rest of us - I guess our seating assignment had been changed at one point. Our reservation had included a note that we were celebrating a birthday and I was asked to point out the celebrant when she arrived. We had a 7 PM reservation and were there until well after 9, and did not feel rushed to leave at all. For cocktails, I had the French 75 and my friends both had the Orchid Martini. I loved mine, it was fizzy with a sugared rim and just a little sweet. We ordered a round of starters. My favorite was the Firecracker roll, a huge sushi roll with spicy crab and tempura shrimp. Soy sauce and chopsticks are offered, but do not come with the rolls unless you want them. My friend had the Urban roll, with, I think lobster and waygu sliced on top. I preferred mine, but she enjoyed it! We also tried the burrata salad, because, burrata. It was very good, with big chunks of tomatoes and microgreens. For dinner, I actually stuck with the starter menu and ordered another Firecracker roll! I also tried the truffle fries, which were good, but not my favorite. We had an order of the lobster macaroni and cheese and the chicken breast entree as well. Everything was nicely plated (in spite of the dark pictures!) and we enjoyed it. Finally, my friend got a birthday treat - a sparkler in a champagne glass and an order of strawberries topped with whipped cream and filled with Ketel One pureed with strawberry. I thought they were lovely, a cute presentation and I love strawberries with cream. I saw about 5 of those things go out, so I think a lot of people were celebrating that night! Our server, Lauren, was excellent. She hit that balance between letting us relax and making sure we were taken care of. But there were several glitches that were a little awkward. After we finished our starters, another server came by and bussed our table. Completely. They picked up our unused dinner forks and knives and disappeared. When our entrees were dropped, we didn't have chopsticks, forks, knives, or the condiments we had requested. When the final entree dropped, we had to remind our server that we needed utensils. Before we got our entrees, a third server came over with a plate of deviled eggs and a little tray of the whipped cream strawberries and bent over to put them on our table. We hadn't ordered either. As he was standing back up to take them away, one of the strawberries fell off of the tray and landed whipped cream side down, on the chair where my friend had put her phone, right on the charger port. He was very apologetic, and we weren't terribly upset (mostly laughing) but then we were left to clean up the sticky phone mess ourselves with wet wipes from my purse. Overall, we had a lovely time, and I will say that it was getting busy as it got later, but for the overall price of the experience, the service was not quite up to par. We enjoyed the food and the cocktails and the overall ambience, though!

Cheers!
Lisa D.

We stopped by Chophouse 614 for our 5-year wedding anniversary this past winter and had a great time! The ambiance and decor is absolutely romantic and what I would expect for an anniversary dinner; however, being seated at a high-top table was not the most romantic (although we were seated under the tree by ourselves). We started our night off with some drinks (Pinot Noir and Sidecar) and spiked strawberries. The spiked strawberries are so darn good! We have had them previously at Urban's Pinthouse which is why we chose to get them again here. We then enjoyed a Firecracker sushi roll. My husband and I both really enjoyed the sushi roll. For my main entree, I went off of our server's recommendation and got the Filet Oscar with crab instead of shrimp. Bad decision! I was not a fan of the crab on top. It tasted like mush - not like you would expect (sweet chunks of crab meat). The crab did not go well with the filet mignon for me - definitely stick with the jumbo shrimp if you order this. Especially for $70. My husband really enjoyed his ribeye though! We got the whipped potatoes and truffle lobster mac and cheese for our sides. Both were so creamy and yum! While we definitely enjoyed ourselves, the drinks, the food, and the service - the prices are a bit overpriced - I believe our entire bill was close to $300. So - just beware if you do decide to swing through Chophouse 614.

Bad Experience
Cori M.

Don't waste your time on this "Hollywood" facade of a restaurant. Don't let the "Glamor" of this place convince you into emptying your wallet for no reason. If you want to be "high class" I expect a "high class" experience. Having a dress code, yet allowing employees to gaff off and wear sport team hoodies and hats at the bar... Why have the dress code at all... "Ignore the bad reviews, we're under new ownership" This was the opening conversation to a horrible experience. $17 for oily, over cooked calamari. $58 for a filet ( you can get cheaper and better prepared anywhere in the city ) $98 for "wagyu filet" this actually made me laugh. My GF and I left after the appetizer and drinks. She put it: "They bejeweled everything, even the menu" The only positive aspect to this place: Happy Hour 4-6pm Monday-Friday The drinks were made well. Don't waste your time.

Small Sea Food Tower

Had a great time with my friend for our girls' night. Our server was great and super helpful with answering questions as first-time patrons of the establishment, and everything was delicious. Some things are a bit pricey, but if the rest of the menu matches the quality of sea food we got, it is worth it. Will be returning when I can make a trip to Columbus again.

We would have not gone here if it's not part of restaurant week. Glad to have found it and really enjoyed the ambiance. Everything was so good from appetizers to desserts. Our waitress was very attentive and nice. The manager checked up on us as well. Great presentation of food.

This place is absolutely divine! We were visiting Columbus for a school convention and someone mentioned this was a nice restaurant , wow! Am I glad they did! It had it all, the scenery was exquisite, the food was flavorful and not mention the service! I had a New Crab Bisque Soup and took a bite from my friend's Deviled Eggs with Shrimp, delicious!! For my entree I ordered Truffle Pasta and added mushrooms and lobster, my mouth gets watery just thinking about it!! We will definitely be back the next time we are in Columbus!!

Great ambiance and the food was delicious! Came here to celebrate my birthday and my friends and I had a nice time!

Went there last Friday to treat my parents to a special dinner and Chophouse did not disappoint. We tried the calamari and deviled eggs for the appetizers and my mom could not get enough and ate almost all the eggs herself. :). Our entrees were the wagyu filet, ribeye and truffle pasta. Everything was absolutely delicious and wagyu filet just melted in your mouth. Also, the service was impeccable! Definitely my go to spot now.

Urban Roll and Espresso Martini
Coty K.

Amazing food and cocktails! The urban roll and espresso martini that I ordered were both amazing. I also tried the truffle pasta and that was very delicious! Perfect food, service, cocktails and ambience. My new favorite go-to spot in Cbus! : )

Was subpar this time. So disappointed they took the scallops off the menu. This was by far their best dish.

The Alibi Bourbon and Cocktail Lounge

Their visual chart is a…read moregodsend for cocktail explorers, and all of the drinks came out delicious and exactly as described. It's so creative, and the drinks are really the stellar stand out here. However, the atmosphere of those drinks is what gives me pause when thinking about coming back. The limited table situation, tiny cramped space, and loud music means that it doesn't feel particularly relaxing. People are constantly brushing up against you (even at 5PM), and holding a conversation at a normal distance is nearly impossible. NOTE: This place is covered in dust. No shade to the ownership as it doesn't appear to be anywhere near food prep areas (it's on the decor, on/around shelving, all over the faux plants, etc.), but if you're someone who's sensitive to dust, this is probably not a good fit. PROS: -I loooooooove how they've done their drink menu. As someone who is still exploring the potential of cocktails, their nerdy "chart" that places all of their drinks on a sweet/bitter and alcohol-forward/approachable visual chart is SUCH a help. As such, everything I ordered was absolutely amazing for me. I knew exactly what to expect from a drink because of its position on the chart, and it delivered. -Their drinks are really unique. Aqua faba? Fat washed alcohols? Lollipops or toasted marshmallows as garnishes? Super cool. Don't let some of the weirder descriptions creep you out of trying them. -All of their drinks were delicious. Everything I ordered was exactly as described. I often go places where the taste is barely related to its namesake, but they were entirely on-point here. CONS: -I'm not sure if someone called off that night as other reviewers are in love with the service, but our service was really really slow. No real rapport with the staff; just stating the name of a drink as they rushed past and then they were off to try to clean a table or take someone else's order. The drinks they made were great, but this isn't somewhere we'd go if we were in a hurry. -The pictures do not accurately convey how small this place is. Like, it's small. I'd guess less than 1000 square feet. My apartment is bigger by a lot. This isn't necessarily an issue, but it means people pile up quickly as they wait for seating (there's like 4/5 tables and then bar seating). The human walkways are small enough that the bartenders and other guests will brush against you a lot - even while seated. -I get the vibe they were going for here, but with the smaller space, I think a lot of the potential decor options had to "go" in order to fit more humans. It's giving me hardcore The Hearth Room (in Cincinnati) vibes, and I think it could honestly pull it off if it simply had more space. The "relaxed, sophisticated bourbon bar" doesn't quite come through as well when things are so focused on simply fitting in more bodies. -It's loud AF. Like, really, really loud. Between all the people and the blasting pop music, it required leaning into someone's ear in order to speak at normal volumes. We'd regularly have to pause the conversation if something in the music was building to a drop. This is not a place I'd take someone I wasn't very very comfortable with because it really requires being in someone's space to talk. -There's a single all-gender toilet here for everyone in the establishment. It's basically a revolving door of people in and out of it. The door auto-closes, however, so it's really difficult to figure out if it's open or not. There was usually a queue of people waiting in front of the door.

I never leave Alibi disappointed. They always have such a creative menu with something for…read moreeveryone. It always amazes me how quickly they crank out such creative drinks. I'm sure some of them are batched, but they don't taste like they are. Service was excellent, as always. Endlessly knowledgeable. Small place, but never feels crowded even when full.

My Husband and I randomly stumbled upon this place walking to Chapman's one night after we were JUST talking to a buddy about how Columbus didn't have any "great" Wine Bars. So the next weekend we had to go back and check it out immediately!! This place is so friendly and cute as soon as you walk in. You can sit at a high top table, blue velvet couches for a more laid back option or the bar if you come alone or with a friend! The second best part about this place is you can order of a menu of curated pre picked wines and crafted cocktails or pop into the wine shop connected to it called Hausfrau Haven. You can buy a bottle there and open at The Laundry and split it with friends or your partner which I LOVE! You could even do your own little wine tasting too if you'd like! Lastly if you need a snack to drink more wine they have great little apps like nuts, cheese and a few more rotting options!! *My only complaint is I wish there was a water station or could get a glass of water. When I drink I like to have access to water and the little mini water bottles don't do much for me and I feel annoying asking for multiple when there* Minor detail and does not detour me from going!!!! Cocktail vibe is more "laid-back friends talking over creative drinks" than sultry, romantic date spot. Tons of natural light means this cocktail bar has had some of my *favorite* cocktail bar photos I've ever taken. It's so pretty in here. NOTES: -During pop-ups, walk-ins are near-impossible on weekends and not likely on weekdays. Make a reservation if you want to make sure you'll have a spot. -No dedicated parking lot. 3-hour-limit free residential parking all around Law Bird, though. We generally have to walk 2 or 3 blocks from parking to Law Bird. Be aware this is German Village, and you're looking at cobblestone sidewalks for high heel and accessibility purposes. -Law Bird mostly has small party seating. If you have a larger group you want to seat during a pop-up, make SURE to get that reservation in early. They have the single 8-person table. -They have snackies and food. Portion sizes are small (despite what the prices may suggest), though, so this is not generally a place to eat a full meal. All of the food is super flavorful, though, so definitely a great snack to add on. PROS: -Keeping things fresh, they regularly host cute seasonal events, new drinks, and pop-up events. In recent memory, I know they've done a Cherry Blossom one, a Spooky Halloween one, and a Christmas one. -They go ALL OUT for their pop-ups. It isn't just a brand new, professionally-printed menu (no pieces of paper with 4 seasonal drinks here). It's also all of their interior decor, bathroom decorations, bartop decorations, and more. Ceiling decor too! They get all up in there. It's really fun to see the space transformed constantly. -Between the new menus and the constantly-new decorations of their space, I love regularly popping into Law Bird. -I LOVE the creativity of the menus, and I LOVE that they offer cocktail classes. (I haven't taken one yet, but I'm excited to!) The menu has unique drinks, served with unique garnishes. They have a few "sugar cocktails", but for the most part, Law Bird drinks tend to be complex and spirit-forward. -Their "themed" bathrooms (even with their own themed music playlists) make me happy. They have two unisex, single room restrooms. CONS: -If you come during a pop-up with a smaller group, they will enforce their reservation time limit of 1.5 hours. This isn't necessarily the end of the world, but the times when they enforce their limits is when they have more customers waiting - and tend to be when the place is at capacity. When they're at-capacity, the bar staff and service staff is a lot busier, with drink service taking longer and servers checking in a lot less. This means we usually only have had the chance to place 2 drink orders during that 1.5 hour time limit before they ask us to leave. This can be rough (to try most of the drinks on a limited time menu) unless you're sharing drinks with your tablemates. If you still want to continue your evening with your friends after that 1.5 hour limit, Antiques on High, Daily Growler, and Cobra are easily walkable from here. -During their pop-ups on weekends, time between placing a drink order and receiving the drink has usually been around 15 to 20 minutes. Not the end of the world as you get to socialize with friends, but again, with the time limit, that can be a bit rough.

That being said, upon opening the door we were told we couldn't come in without masks. Mine was in my pocket, no problem. I haven't left my home (in Tennessee) often enough since the beginning of the virus for it to become habit to automatically put on a mask when I get out of my vehicle. But 9/10 times I remember before entering a public place. The male bartender just seemed rude in the way he told us to put one one. I had read the raving reviews, and being a Yelp Elite myself I know I can and do trust their reviews above others. So....I was really looking forward to trying something new and enjoy watching a bartender do their thing. The bartender pointed to two framed menus on top of a cooler containing seltzer's and canned drinks, and some glass bottles of pre-made cocktails, I think. I would've appreciated the bartender ask me what I liked, and help me decide, but it was easier for him to point to the sign. Customer service absolutely sucked hippo balls. I asked if I could just order a Knob Creek and Coke in a short glass, and a Blanton's for my hubs. Sure!! What I got was a shot of each in a to-go plastic condiment container with a lid, and two big paper go cups (like Burger King) of ice, and a can of Coke, which I told him never mind I had a soda in the truck. We also got two bags of Cheeto's, to make the sale legal. So....we poured our bourbons over the ice in the paper cups. I drank a few sips of mine, yum, even in paper. My husband was just about to take a sip and noticed something stuck in his ice that looked just like a maggot. He walked back across the street and told/showed the bartender, who vehemently denied it came from the ice because it was a brand new bag. Then I noticed 3 of the maggot looking things in my ice, so I went back in and showed my husband and then the bartender. He told my husband it was probably from the citrus he was cutting on a board near the ice bin. They were frozen INSIDE the ice cubes. I'm upset with myself that I didn't take a picture of it, it was gross. I'm upset that a bartender would try to make it seem like it was nothing. After seeing it all in my ice my husband just asked for our money back, and the bartender said, "But I've already poured another." Ummm, sorry, but no thank you. He did give the refund, but I most assuredly won't give them a second chance when I visit Columbus.
