J. Alexander's has always provided a good experience. I dined at the Easton location. I went for the beef shish kabob, unfortunately, it was no longer an option. I was told they have a new menu. Bummer. I ordered a ribeye and mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were absolutely the worst I have had. Dry and room temperature. I knew something was wrong when they came stacked high like a rock formation. The steak was a little overcooked but eatable. The carrot cake was still the best in town. Service was very good. Interesting how one bad experience after many years can make you not want to return. I should have sent it back. My bad. The restaurant was pretty empty. This is a nice upscale restaurant with a relaxing atmosphere and fine food. The Ahi Tuna Filet was well prepared. The fried calamari was fresh and full of flavor. Our waitress was prompt friendly and attentive making us feel welcomed and never rushed. Wifie and I went here for our anniversary... It is a nice place but honestly I think there are other restaurants in this space I prefer. Wifie and I both had the salads which were very good. I had the prime rib with smashed potatoes which was just ok - it was a big cut but it was dry. Wifie had a salmon dish with orzo and wild rice which she liked. I went with a friend to this restaurant. The crab cakes were on the specials. I like crab cakes and am always looking for a good one. The crab cakes here were phenomenal, a lot of crab and seasoned well. I chose the baked potato instead of fries . It was good after we sent it back to be heated so they brought us a new one. The waitress we had was very good . She brought us whatever we asked. The atmosphere was nice and the manager stopped by to see if we were happy. That was commendable. read more

Started with Caesar salad, really good. A tad bit more dressing than I like but not too much. I hate croutons. I accidentally ate one and it was really good, ended up eating them all. Filet kabobs- juicy, tender, with great flavor. Veggies were good too. The sauce did not mask the taste of the steak. cheese steak - very tasty. Came here a few months ago for my boyfriend's birthday. You definitely want to make a reservation if you're coming on the weekend because it was busy! We did have a reservation and got sat right away. Our waiter was friendly and quick. Food was delicious! We had the deviled eggs to start and they were great. The filet mignon was cooked to perfect and the loaded potato was great. Being a steakhouse, it is pricy but worth it & compared to other steakhouses in the area, this one is more "affordable". There's a chance if you order the Thai Kai Salad you'll get it without Chicken strips like the menu says. This is the third time my wife has ordered the his and each time we have to send it back. The manager wanted to just bring out chicken in a small bowl and add on top of her existing plate. But the kicker is, I don't want to hear this is his third day working and it's been a hard day. Oh boy. Guys. I love you. I really do. You are a very special place for my wife and I. Tonight she brought me here for my birthday as a little surprise. It was perfect. We were seated right on time, lovely location, quick drinks, impeccable service, food was absolutely perfect. I had the Prime Rib and she had the New York Strip. My brothers in christ it was cooked to perfection. I was low key jellies when I had a little corner of it. When I say this as someone who travels for work and eats out often, this location is top notch. Always amazing. So let's talk about the left over strip. We were given a lovely birthday carrot cake which is truly delightful. Her leftover steak was gone. No box. Don't recall being asked if we'd like a box. Just gone. We took care of the bill and left. We are on our way to see a movie now. And we are both so happy about the meal. But also like really sad. That steak was really good. Ask for a box!!!!! read more

I definitely love this restaurant. Food is always amazing and the staff is always friendly and helpful. The Philly egg rolls are perfection and the steak Maui although a little too sweet for my liking was still very good. I've been here plenty of times but never checked into this location before. I highly recommend the prime rib sandwich for lunch. Suggested that to my client who absolutely loved it. I had their redwood salad which I get almost every time. It's huge, has the right amount of dressing and the croutons are so good! Hard on the outside and soft on the inside. My other client had the sushi bomb which surprised us all. It looked like a big globe of avocado but has all of the sushi under it and came with chips. She ate it so fast and said it was great. This is a full meal steak and fish house, tho sandwiches and salads are offered. We got the deviled eggs for an appetizer. They tasted like a little onion and smoked paprika were added with a piece of bacon on top. Yum. We opted for the full meals at lunch. There is a lot of food, and three of the five of us took half in to-go boxes. The strip steak and rib-eye were huge with a pile of mashed potatoes and broccoli. They were delicious, from our steak experts who come here often. Hubby and I got the walleye and Cajun trout. I had three meals out of the trout. It included risotto and Cole slaw. All were very good. The walleye melted in your mouth. Service was friendly and very nice. We took a piece of carrot cake home. Horrible bar service! One should not beg to order and and later beg to pay (wait way too long). During ordering time bar was 70% packed, so I was patient; but one bartender disappeared and a lazy waiter walked over a couple with a to go order as I was trying to order. Was not busy when I was trying to pay. Minimal management oversight. The food's good if you can get it and don't expect to leave when you want. read more

We have had good luck with J Alexander's and their Florida and Ohio branches but today was disappointing. I mean we love this place and come here often on our day trips. Probably 10 times a year or MORE. Today we came later but not during closing, approx 9pm and my mother has been on a tea kick. Our steaks came out good, they gave her the wrong side but corrected it but her biggest complaint was that despite refills- she only got one tea to our 2+ cokes. The server kindly informed us they were out of unsweetened tea, the only kind she can have because she's diabetic, and she had only gotten one. She ate most of her meal with no accompaniment and now as we travel home, I've had to hear about how posted she is over it for 45 minutes. It is inconveniencing our whole car ride and her whole dining experience but I can sympathize. She is literally about to cry over it. I think I Alexander's can do better on their server training, pricing, attention to detail, and timeliness (considering we waited 20 minutes between every visit from our server to have these changes made/brought to their attention). They were busy closing instead of attending to us so we felt forgotten about and it was dragging everything out even farther. It was also disappointing we were not offered dessert where I would normally have mentioned it was my birthday but by that time, it was so late we needed to get on the road. Approximately 11pm when we would have been able and content to leave by 10:30 for our 3 hour drive. Went for a very special birthday and didn't want to make a fuss there and ruin the evening...but no one received a steak cooked to order. Steak for steak frites was WAY overcooked. My filet was almost purple and not a warm red center. I ordered a cosmo and it was way too strong. Spent $250 for a very average meal. J. Alexander's is a large and inviting restaurant, and the first thing that hits you as you enter is the smell of a wood-burning grill. The restaurant features a large bar, plenty of indoor dining, and a small patio. As an appetizer, we tried the California rolls and steak egg rolls. I'm not a sushi expert so I'll save my comment, but the steak egg rolls were a unique dish - an interesting blend of beef, served with spicy ranch and a spicy salsa. For my main course, I went for the Carolina crab cakes ($32), which came with a choice of two sides; I chose the broccoli and rice-orzo salad as my sides. The crab cakes were excellent; the crab meat was as good as I've had in Annapolis, Seattle or Boston, and the cakes were full of real meat rather than the cheap blend you sometimes get. Unfortunately, the crab cakes were drizzled with a spicy mayo, which I didn't care for (with crab this good, you don't have to disguise the sweet meat with a spicy sauce). The cakes were served with a more traditional Dijon sauce on the side, which was acceptable. The broccoli was also very good and the rice and pasta were alright, but served cold. For dessert, we went for the chocolate cake, and it was served warm with rich ice cream - lovely. J. Alexander's is trying very hard to cater to a premium clientele: the service is prompt and professional, and all the staff were friendly and eager to please. First I must say, I wish I had ordered the carrot cake first. There was absolutely no room for anything else! The restaurant itself is very nice. But the area it is located is beautiful and upscale. The service was perfect and incredibly friendly. Now for the food. WOW! The steak rolls appetizer was great! Hubbys steak Maui was prepared exactly as he requested. The steak had a nice coating of the marinade with made it on point. My prime rib was excellent! I requested a little more well done so I was concerned it would be dry. But it was perfect and very juicy and probably the best prime rib I've had. Oh, our salads were very fresh and tasty also. My only suggestion, leave room for dessert! read more

This is my second time at this establishment. First time was just before Christmas with my better half, we enjoyed the food and service. We went yesterday for my birthday with my family and they did not disappoint. Same excellent service, same great food, the alcohol is superb! Do not go to this location if you have more than 5 people in your party. They do not want to serve you. We tried making a reservation but they wouldn't take a reservation for more than 6. We had a party of 12. So we went hoping we could be seated near each other and they still said no. We asked why and they said corporate told them they can't. (They were very empty, they only had 3 tables of patrons.) We asked again why we can't be split up if it's empty, and ensured them we wouldn't need split checks or anything complicated; Jordan Girard said no. That they can only seat 1 table of 6 no matter what. That once a party is identified as 6, they can't seat any more. We asked if we could do 3 tables of 4 and she said no. I took a video of how empty the restaurant was and photos. We continued to beg, explaining they were dead and turning away 12 paying patrons; she said it doesn't matter they can't seat us. We will be contacting corporate because it made no sense to us and she couldn't explain anything except they were told this 3 months ago. So we left and ate across the street. BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse seated us promptly and with a smile, we were way over dressed for BJ's but they wanted the business. I would like to add we had two elderly people with us, and they still would not accommodate us no matter how much we asked. It does not make any sense why they would have a corporate policy like this, especially if they are empty. One of our guests has a BA in Restaurant Hotel Hospitality and they couldn't make any sense of this. read more

Day Six on the road for work. It's been a mix of hotel breakfasts, assorted coffee houses, a nasty cold, and some winners and losers across the frosty tundra of Ohio. It seemed fitting we would try to wrap up the trip with a pretty sure restaurant and J Alexanders answered the bell for us. . .thank you Team Alexander! The last three days have been salads, primarily out of self=preservation and the fact I don't have a larger belt with me. And to be honest, I've felt better eating lighter via more salads on the road. Icing on the cake was that J Alexanders features some excellent salads, big, bold, beautiful salads, interesting salads. I opted for the Redwood salad and was not disappointed. Rotisserie chicken, avocados, roasted corn, ranch dressing and what has to be the gold standard of corn bread croutons. It was absolutely excellent! Since it was spitting snow flurries outside and this Phoenician is not used to the cold, I also had a bowl of clam chowder. Clam chowder is one of those soups that can go either way with low quality clams, not enough chowder, too runny, etc. Not here, while it was a little too peppery for my palate, I'd give it 9/10, really a great soup-not disappointing at all. This is our go-to steakhouse for a very close and quick pick up for curbside food esp during this pandemic. Wow. Great establishment and great staff. When we get brave and snag a spot at the bar, the experience is still very fantastic and SAFE. Our favs: Cheeseburgers which are delightful, my absolute fav NY Strip and Mac and Cheese. Lemon Drop Martinis. A massive amount of wines to choose from...key lime pie to take home. Fantastic spot and it's been a god send during this crazy time. I've given this place a second chance and again disappointed. Upon arrival another guest was leaving, clearly over served; harassed me in front of the employees, nothing was said of done by anyone including a manager. They only ran after them because he took a glass. They should've called them an Uber. Then after that commotion. We were never even greet by the host who just sitting down there the whole time during all of this. Our server was clearly new and did not know the menu. My drink was an Old fashion. Did not have a rocks ice, which I know they have and it was extremely diluted. I'm sure sat at the bar for a while before it got to my table because it arrived right before my meal. I ordered the filet mignon but was never asked about the temperature which I didn't notice until I cut into it because was definitely a medium, I prefer rare-medium rare. My partners New York strip was under cooked, it was a rare instead of the medium they wanted. When asked about the meal I explained to the server but then a manager came back the plate telling it was a medium rare. Even after I cut it again it was clearly a medium. Heather kept insisting it was what it wasn't so by this point the steak is cold and my side were definitely cold... I just had to endure the cold over cooked steak with my ice cold sides... the potato was not cooked all the way through to the middle. I wanted to leave so I handed my card before I saw the bill...Then they double charged me for the steak without me knowing. It took forever to find the manager and another eternity to reverse the charge. Only to have a hold charge from the previous swipe too. Heather is a non compassionate person, rude, aggressive and should truly look into another career because front house manager is not it. This most recent visit however was for my birthday and our server did not acknowledge this in the way most restaurants traditionally do. She was also slow to return to our table to check on us throughout the evening, and seemed rather lackluster overall in her presence. If you'd asked me a year ago, I'd be giving this location of J' Alexander's a 5 star rating. However, aa of late, their service and their food has been hit or miss. Today they undercooked my husband's burger and their fix was then to overcook it. I ordered the Thai Kai salad and there was hardly any lettuce but had a ton of those crunchy noodles. I also found 2 chicken bones in it and chicken was not seasoned at all. They gave us a reduced price but I basically left without eating. When the manager came out, he spoke to all bar guests except us. We've been frequenting J's for years but they have gone downhill as of late.if only today's experience were the first bad experience we've had there! read more
