Went here for lunch recently with a few colleagues and was unfortunately disappointed with the service. They were not busy by any means, only a few tables to service, however we waited about 40 minutes for our salads to be served. Once our food was served it was good! I think this hurdle could have been overcome a bit had it been acknowledged by the server, or if they had checked in on us while we waited. read more

I'll admit when we arrived I was a little surprised that the hostess that greeted us wasn't a bit more...enthusiastic. She looked and acted as if her mind was a million miles away. I hoped it was not a sign of things to come. My partner and I exchanged a glance with each other after our hum drum greeting upon arrival. We were promptly greeted by our server, Ashley, who brought us ice cold water and took our drink orders. I had a White Russian, my partner had Cindy's Lemon Drop off the menu. Both were served promptly and were delicious and Ashley took my gentle advice to pass along to the bartender that White Russians should be served unstirred (as mine had been stirred) well. She later let me know the bartender originally put the White Russian in the wrong glass and poured it from a tall glass into the glass it was served in. I appreciated the follow up and was pleased to find my second White Russian served without mixing. They were both delicious as was my partners Lemon Drop. I just feel if Im gonna pay fifteen bucks for a cocktail it be prepared and served appropriately. I mean, you wouldn't serve a Moscow Mule in a glass would you? Nor should you mix or stir a White Russian unless it's at a party in your own home, then all bartending rules go out the window. But I digress. We both ordered the Filet Mignon with Béarnaise cooked Medium and they were both exceptional. My partner is going back to living a whole food vegan lifestyle after I corrupted her with lots of red meat so she's going back but wanted her last steak to be delicious so she chose J. Alexander's. She wasn't disappointed. We shared a piece of Key Lime pie for dessert. It was a big piece and enough for two people who just had dinner and cocktails) and even took some home. As a big Key Lime pie fan, I'd have to say this pie was a 10/10. Exceptional. The entire restaurant that we could see, including the men's restroom, was spotless with pleasant music playing. The music wasn't so loud you couldn't have a conversation. In fact, the volume was perfect. If the manager reads this review, perhaps they could remind their hostesses that they are the first impression a customer has when they walk in. Smile a bit. Be cheerful. Act like you're in the now and happy to be here. Other than the hostess whose mind seemed to be elsewhere, I'd say this is an easy 5/5 stars. If a 4.5 were possible I might've given that solely for the non-cheerful hostess who also seemed to move really slow, but it's either 4 stars or 5 here so a 5 it is cuz I'm not about to dock a whole star for one non-cheerful hostess. I also like the coat hooks on the ends of all the booths. Nice touch. Also plenty of free parking is available. If I want a fat steak, I'd definitely go back to J. Alexander's. read more

Food, service and atmosphere were amazing. We got the crab dip as our appetizer per recommendation of our amazing server Andre. We got the pork tenderloin and the salmon for our entrees. The bang bang sauce on the pork was balanced with spice and sweetness. The rice with the salmon was so unique. For dessert we got the chocolate cake and ice cream. Confused why this place models the hill stone corp but doesn't deliver, the French dip must have been left over from lunch shavings and had already turned to silver in color. The prime rib? Very thick, almost corned beef material and not juicy. Humm, why are the Caesar salad dressings so mayonnaisey? Is this a Columbus thing? Really wanted to give this place 2 thumbs up, it's not quaint, it's big, but fails in the food category. And there are locations around the US? Those wont be on my list when I travel. Sorry. Wifie and I went here for our anniversary... It is a nice place but honestly I think there are other restaurants in this space I prefer. Wifie and I both had the salads which were very good. I had the prime rib with smashed potatoes which was just ok - it was a big cut but it was dry. Wifie had a salmon dish with orzo and wild rice which she liked. This is a nice upscale restaurant with a relaxing atmosphere and fine food. The Ahi Tuna Filet was well prepared. The fried calamari was fresh and full of flavor. Our waitress was prompt friendly and attentive making us feel welcomed and never rushed. We hadn't been to J Alexander's in several years, so on a recent Friday night we decided to stop by for a late dinner on a whim. We had no problem being seated (it was 8:45 PM) in a comfortable booth. This location offers a very attractive upscale interior design and ambiance. Let me cut to the chase... In terms of value for money, we both thought J Alexander's on Stelzer Road (Easton shopping center) was a knockout! The service was great. Haylei was a fun, attentive, and helpful server! And the food was outstanding from start to finish. I started with the Duke Vodka Martini (Tito's) which was a generous pour that included extra in a little pitcher, nestled in a glass of ice. Wow. Haylei offered to add blue cheese green olives, my absolute favorite. At $17 it wasn't cheap, but not out of line with drink prices I've seen recently and, as I said, it was outstanding. I had asked for a side salad (the Alex) and she suggested the two of us split it, which was perfect in terms of serving size. I don't think I could've eaten a whole one. That bought the price down to $3.50 per salad serving. And it was delicious. I especially appreciated the house dressing vinaigrette with just a hint of sweet to offset the tang. Such a great way to start the meal. I had the grilled pork tenderloin ($25) OMG... So delicious. Grilled to perfection, with a perfectly charred crispy tasty exterior and perfectly cooked/juicy inside. It had "bang bang" sauce drizzled on top, which was a delicious accompaniment. The mashed potatoes were rich and so delicious. My partner ordered the French dip sandwich ($24)... This had to be the best French dip I've seen in eons. Fresh super thinly sliced prime beef that looked to be 2 inches thick piled on a Fresh baguette. He is INCREDIBLY picky and it's rare that he judges a restaurant to be worthy of a return visit. After one bite of the French dip, he declared this to be the best restaurant we've dined at in Columbus in several years. He also loved his side... sliced Heirloom tomatoes, lightly seasoned. Normally the French dip comes with french fries but Alexander's is great about letting you substitute in any of the other sides, and they have lots of delicious sounding choices. Honestly... I'm surprised at the number of stars for this place. It was a home run for us... Five stars all the way. We both are looking forward to coming back soon as we want to try the slow roasted prime rib ($41) based on how delicious the French dip was. My only slight concern was spotting the very polite Columbus police officer (I assume off duty, but in uniform) who was standing inside near the entrance to the restaurant. I've heard that Easton has suffered from crime in the last several years so I assume this is meant to be an answer to that. It's a pity. But I suppose that's the world we're in. In any event, I urge you to check out this J Alexander's location... If it's representative of all the other J Alexander's out there, then this chain restaurant is on a roll! read more

J. Alexander's has always provided a good experience. I dined at the Easton location. I went for the beef shish kabob, unfortunately, it was no longer an option. I was told they have a new menu. Bummer. I ordered a ribeye and mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were absolutely the worst I have had. Dry and room temperature. I knew something was wrong when they came stacked high like a rock formation. The steak was a little overcooked but eatable. The carrot cake was still the best in town. Service was very good. Interesting how one bad experience after many years can make you not want to return. I should have sent it back. My bad. The restaurant was pretty empty. Started with Caesar salad, really good. A tad bit more dressing than I like but not too much. I hate croutons. I accidentally ate one and it was really good, ended up eating them all. I went with a friend to this restaurant. The crab cakes were on the specials. I like crab cakes and am always looking for a good one. The crab cakes here were phenomenal, a lot of crab and seasoned well. I chose the baked potato instead of fries . It was good after we sent it back to be heated so they brought us a new one. The waitress we had was very good . She brought us whatever we asked. The atmosphere was nice and the manager stopped by to see if we were happy. That was commendable. read more

There's a chance if you order the Thai Kai Salad you'll get it without Chicken strips like the menu says. This is the third time my wife has ordered the his and each time we have to send it back. The manager wanted to just bring out chicken in a small bowl and add on top of her existing plate. But the kicker is, I don't want to hear this is his third day working and it's been a hard day. Came here a few months ago for my boyfriend's birthday. You definitely want to make a reservation if you're coming on the weekend because it was busy! We did have a reservation and got sat right away. Our waiter was friendly and quick. Food was delicious! We had the deviled eggs to start and they were great. The filet mignon was cooked to perfect and the loaded potato was great. Being a steakhouse, it is pricy but worth it & compared to other steakhouses in the area, this one is more "affordable". My brothers in christ it was cooked to perfection. I was low key jellies when I had a little corner of it. I've been here plenty of times but never checked into this location before. I highly recommend the prime rib sandwich for lunch. Suggested that to my client who absolutely loved it. I had their redwood salad which I get almost every time. It's huge, has the right amount of dressing and the croutons are so good! Hard on the outside and soft on the inside. My other client had the sushi bomb which surprised us all. It looked like a big globe of avocado but has all of the sushi under it and came with chips. She ate it so fast and said it was great. This is a full meal steak and fish house, tho sandwiches and salads are offered. We got the deviled eggs for an appetizer. They tasted like a little onion and smoked paprika were added with a piece of bacon on top. Yum. We opted for the full meals at lunch. There is a lot of food, and three of the five of us took half in to-go boxes. The strip steak and rib-eye were huge with a pile of mashed potatoes and broccoli. They were delicious, from our steak experts who come here often. Hubby and I got the walleye and Cajun trout. I had three meals out of the trout. It included risotto and Cole slaw. All were very good. The walleye melted in your mouth. Service was friendly and very nice. We took a piece of carrot cake home. During ordering time bar was 70% packed, so I was patient; but one bartender disappeared and a lazy waiter walked over a couple with a to go order as I was trying to order. Went for a very special birthday and didn't want to make a fuss there and ruin the evening...but no one received a steak cooked to order. Steak for steak frites was WAY overcooked. My filet was almost purple and not a warm red center. I ordered a cosmo and it was way too strong. Spent $250 for a very average meal. We have had good luck with J Alexander's and their Florida and Ohio branches but today was disappointing. I mean we love this place and come here often on our day trips. Probably 10 times a year or MORE. Today we came later but not during closing, approx 9pm and my mother has been on a tea kick. Our steaks came out good, they gave her the wrong side but corrected it but her biggest complaint was that despite refills- she only got one tea to our 2+ cokes. The server kindly informed us they were out of unsweetened tea, the only kind she can have because she's diabetic, and she had only gotten one. She ate most of her meal with no accompaniment and now as we travel home, I've had to hear about how posted she is over it for 45 minutes. It is inconveniencing our whole car ride and her whole dining experience but I can sympathize. She is literally about to cry over it. I think I Alexander's can do better on their server training, pricing, attention to detail, and timeliness (considering we waited 20 minutes between every visit from our server to have these changes made/brought to their attention). They were busy closing instead of attending to us so we felt forgotten about and it was dragging everything out even farther. It was also disappointing we were not offered dessert where I would normally have mentioned it was my birthday but by that time, it was so late we needed to get on the road. Approximately 11pm when we would have been able and content to leave by 10:30 for our 3 hour drive. J. Alexander's is a large and inviting restaurant, and the first thing that hits you as you enter is the smell of a wood-burning grill. The restaurant features a large bar, plenty of indoor dining, and a small patio. As an appetizer, we tried the California rolls and steak egg rolls. I'm not a sushi expert so I'll save my comment, but the steak egg rolls were a unique dish - an interesting blend of beef, served with spicy ranch and a spicy salsa. For my main course, I went for the Carolina crab cakes ($32), which came with a choice of two sides; I chose the broccoli and rice-orzo salad as my sides. The crab cakes were excellent; the crab meat was as good as I've had in Annapolis, Seattle or Boston, and the cakes were full of real meat rather than the cheap blend you sometimes get. Unfortunately, the crab cakes were drizzled with a spicy mayo, which I didn't care for (with crab this good, you don't have to disguise the sweet meat with a spicy sauce). The cakes were served with a more traditional Dijon sauce on the side, which was acceptable. The broccoli was also very good and the rice and pasta were alright, but served cold. For dessert, we went for the chocolate cake, and it was served warm with rich ice cream - lovely. J. Alexander's is trying very hard to cater to a premium clientele: the service is prompt and professional, and all the staff were friendly and eager to please. Overall, I look forward to trying more of their menu, especially the seafood. read more

We went yesterday for my birthday with my family and they did not disappoint. Same excellent service, same great food, the alcohol is superb! Day Six on the road for work. It's been a mix of hotel breakfasts, assorted coffee houses, a nasty cold, and some winners and losers across the frosty tundra of Ohio. It seemed fitting we would try to wrap up the trip with a pretty sure restaurant and J Alexanders answered the bell for us. . .thank you Team Alexander! The last three days have been salads, primarily out of self=preservation and the fact I don't have a larger belt with me. And to be honest, I've felt better eating lighter via more salads on the road. Icing on the cake was that J Alexanders features some excellent salads, big, bold, beautiful salads, interesting salads. I opted for the Redwood salad and was not disappointed. Rotisserie chicken, avocados, roasted corn, ranch dressing and what has to be the gold standard of corn bread croutons. It was absolutely excellent! Since it was spitting snow flurries outside and this Phoenician is not used to the cold, I also had a bowl of clam chowder. Clam chowder is one of those soups that can go either way with low quality clams, not enough chowder, too runny, etc. Not here, while it was a little too peppery for my palate, I'd give it 9/10, really a great soup-not disappointing at all. First I must say, I wish I had ordered the carrot cake first. There was absolutely no room for anything else! The restaurant itself is very nice. But the area it is located is beautiful and upscale. The service was perfect and incredibly friendly. Now for the food. WOW! The steak rolls appetizer was great! Hubbys steak Maui was prepared exactly as he requested. The steak had a nice coating of the marinade with made it on point. My prime rib was excellent! I requested a little more well done so I was concerned it would be dry. But it was perfect and very juicy and probably the best prime rib I've had. Oh, our salads were very fresh and tasty also. My only suggestion, leave room for dessert! read more

This is our go-to steakhouse for a very close and quick pick up for curbside food esp during this pandemic. Wow. Great establishment and great staff. When we get brave and snag a spot at the bar, the experience is still very fantastic and SAFE. Our favs: Cheeseburgers which are delightful, my absolute fav NY Strip and Mac and Cheese. I've given this place a second chance and again disappointed. Upon arrival another guest was leaving, clearly over served; harassed me in front of the employees, nothing was said of done by anyone including a manager. They only ran after them because he took a glass. They should've called them an Uber. Then after that commotion. We were never even greet by the host who just sitting down there the whole time during all of this. Our server was clearly new and did not know the menu. My drink was an Old fashion. Did not have a rocks ice, which I know they have and it was extremely diluted. I'm sure sat at the bar for a while before it got to my table because it arrived right before my meal. I ordered the filet mignon but was never asked about the temperature which I didn't notice until I cut into it because was definitely a medium, I prefer rare-medium rare. My partners New York strip was under cooked, it was a rare instead of the medium they wanted. When asked about the meal I explained to the server but then a manager came back the plate telling it was a medium rare. Even after I cut it again it was clearly a medium. Heather kept insisting it was what it wasn't so by this point the steak is cold and my side were definitely cold... I just had to endure the cold over cooked steak with my ice cold sides... the potato was not cooked all the way through to the middle. I wanted to leave so I handed my card before I saw the bill...Then they double charged me for the steak without me knowing. It took forever to find the manager and another eternity to reverse the charge. Only to have a hold charge from the previous swipe too. Heather is a non compassionate person, rude, aggressive and should truly look into another career because front house manager is not it. Do not go to this location if you have more than 5 people in your party. They do not want to serve you. We tried making a reservation but they wouldn't take a reservation for more than 6. We had a party of 12. So we went hoping we could be seated near each other and they still said no. We asked why and they said corporate told them they can't. (They were very empty, they only had 3 tables of patrons.) We asked again why we can't be split up if it's empty, and ensured them we wouldn't need split checks or anything complicated; Jordan Girard said no. That they can only seat 1 table of 6 no matter what. That once a party is identified as 6, they can't seat any more. We asked if we could do 3 tables of 4 and she said no. I took a video of how empty the restaurant was and photos. We continued to beg, explaining they were dead and turning away 12 paying patrons; she said it doesn't matter they can't seat us. We will be contacting corporate because it made no sense to us and she couldn't explain anything except they were told this 3 months ago. So we left and ate across the street. BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse seated us promptly and with a smile, we were way over dressed for BJ's but they wanted the business. I would like to add we had two elderly people with us, and they still would not accommodate us no matter how much we asked. It does not make any sense why they would have a corporate policy like this, especially if they are empty. One of our guests has a BA in Restaurant Hotel Hospitality and they couldn't make any sense of this. read more
