Island Movers just did our PCS pack out this week. This is our third long distance military move. I can say from experience, Nick and his two sons did an AMAZING job. They were super polite and respectful. They were also very patient with us, giving us the space we needed to pack our last minute items. They arrived on time, cleaned up after themselves, and worked extremely fast. Best of all, we felt like our things were in great hands. They took precautions to keep our furniture safe and well packed. They also took precautions to make sure non of the walls or floors were damaged by the move. My need for a moving company unfortunately began because of the death of my Mom on the Mainland. I had no idea where to begin the search for a move of such logistics. So what do I do.....call Hawaii!! Adele, from Island Movers, was the catalyst who began my homeward bound journey of all two tons of Mom's and even some of my grandparents treasures that I wasn't yet ready to part with without having time to make a realistic decision. I can't express my gratitude to these wonderful people from Adele to the three gentlemen who professionally delivered and assembled anything I wanted out of the two crates AND a pallet. Nothing was broken and the crew was genuinely concerned about doing the job right without damaging anything. They worked very hard and were so efficient. We moved from Oahu to the mainland in August. What a HORRIBLE moving experience!!! After 4 months, we are still trying to get our claim resolved. They left FOOTPRINTS and scratches on our custom white bed frames, broke one of our flat screen TVs, managed to damage the ONE box that was marked FRAGILE, and have yet to even apologize. And we are missing a box! Please take into account that my fiance is the daughter of a GM of Nippon Express, the largest Japanese moving company that subcontracts to them, and they knew this business relationship since the beginning of the process. If they don't care about maintaining a good reputation with one of their major clients, how do you think they feel about the average Joe's property? We waited three weeks for their claims process to provide us with an appropriate compensation check for our damages, only to get a letter that says, deal with the insurance company that we told you to buy first, then come back to us- oh and by the way, we only pay 60 cents per 100 lbs. they charged us about $19 per 100 lbs! And this was an obvious case of them not packing and handling our high priced items (footprints!!). After we told them that we are dealing with Wells Fargo and want to pursue the additional compensation, she then had the nerves to ask us to submit proof and description of the damage. What were they doing during that three week processing time and how did they make the determination that we had to go through wells Fargo first if they didn't even know what our complaint and claim was??? Horrible experience. And like I said, this is with a priority business connection. Please avoid at all cost! I would not wish this experience on anyone else. I am all for supporting local kine, but not if they can't respect your valuables and do what is right in resolving their mistakes. We are working on presenting the case to the corporate offices of Nippon so that their reputation as a moving company is not tarnished with Island Movers. read more

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE COMMUNICATION AND CUSTOMER SERVICE. I was called at 615pm the day before thery were supposed to deliver my stuff. They told me at time in the morning, so I told my supervisors I need to b off till afternoon and they said ok. So I wait around, and did not hear anything so I called them 45 minutes before they actually said they wound be here, oh but wait, they I need to wait another 3-4 hours for delivery. So now I can't go into work sober they SUCK and communicating times. I was trying to find out just about every day prior to delivery, after they told me what day, a time and they kept saying the schedule has not been made yet. So these people can't get a schedule done till the night prior and when they call to tell u a time, they can't follow their own schedule. "AMAZED" at the lack of communication and caring. read more

I am disappointed with delivery services offered by Island Movers Inc. I was anticipating a home delivery for a Sears product from the warehouse. I was notified the evening prior (to delivery day) of a confirmed 2-hour delivery window between 5:15 - 7:15pm. The next day (delivery day), I received a phone call from an employee at 5:27pm, the worker stated, "We'll be there in 10..15...20 minutes. Do you have an elevator?" On the date of the purchase, it was written via memo informing Island Movers Inc that my residence is a "4th floor set up" as documented by the salesman. I informed the worker that my complex does not have an elevator. To which the employee replied, "Oh...okay. And where do I park?" I informed the employee that my complex does not permit guest parking on premises and that (they) would need to find street parking. To which the driver replied, "Oh...well, I hope we can fit. I have a big truck." Again, I restated that the complex does not have guest parking. I headed down to the bottom to await their arrival, I watched as the truck slowly passed by my complex at around 5:50pm. No more than 10/15 seconds later, I received another call from the employee stating, "Oh...so you're gonna have to reschedule the delivery. You're gonna have to reschedule for a small truck. I don't know when it's gonna be, but yeah you gotta reschedule. But you will receive a call from Sears no later than 24-hours to reschedule." It is understandable that the "truck was too big," but using Oahu's densely populated streets, having no street parking available at rush hour, and an old complex's original design as an excuse for leaving a delivery pending -- essentially, not completing a delivery is simply unacceptable. This shows a lack of integrity and initiative to uphold by their long-standing mission of "providing personalized, quality service." No matter how early you set the date to pick up your household goods, Island Movers has their own schedule for actually shipping your items. We went for 3 weeks in Honolulu without furniture, reasoning that by getting our items picked up earlier, our belongings would arrive sooner in Las Vegas. This wasn't the case at all. Our stuff stayed stored in the Island Movers warehouse for 3 weeks before they actually shipped it out. We found this out the hard way because no one ever informed us that it would take that long to get our items on the boat to the mainland. On the other hand, the folks at Island Movers were nice and I found them, for the most part, to be honest and careful with my stuff. My only problem with them is that they stuffed all of the leftover packing materials in the same crates as our belongings, which added a lot of extra weight and I had to pay for the extra poundage. It was on the Mainland side where I believe our stuff was damaged and, worse, stolen. Island Movers hired _____ (I'll have to look up the new company's name and add it here, once I get my household in order) to pick up our stuff in California and truck it to us in Las Vegas. Of course, I can't actually verify that our crated belongings were not rifled, damaged and stolen in transit to Las Vegas, but it seems unlikely since crates were nailed shut. There were 2 movers assigned to unpack our belongings. The procedure was supposed to be that I got copies of the paperwork and I checked off each unopened box once it was delivered inside our new home. I was instructed to mark an "X" on the paperwork in the column corresponding to numbers on the boxes. Recommendation 1: My advice to you is to not use an "X" but use cursive writing (that is not easily forged) to mark your initials on paperwork. What happened to me is that one mover would distract me, calling me into other rooms of our home, while the other mover would "X" off boxes on the paperwork during my absence. I caught them at this game once and the mover told me that I had missed marking several boxes so he was helping me out. There were over 120 boxes that were supposed to be delivered so I let it go. In hindsight, I should have reported it immediately to the company, but I didn't realize how much of my stuff was going to be missing after they left. Recommendation 2: Also, let me just recommend that you have several people present when the movers arrive. Have one person stay by the truck during unloading so that movers can't open boxes and make off with your belongings before they even bring it inside. Also, one of the movers gave me an uneasy feeling when I was alone in a room with him. If I asked him a question, he acted like he couldn't speak English, even though he had been speaking English earlier with his co-worker and to me. Recommendation 3: Finally, I would recommend that you have movers simply unload boxes in your new home, but not unpack them. It may mean more work for you because you'll have to unpack and discard boxes yourself, but you will have the ultimate control over your belongings. We lost a lot of stuff and sustained a lot of damage to our belongings that I'm sure would not have happened if I had known what to expect. Ultimately, I hold Island Movers responsible for what happened to me and my family since we hired and paid them to move us from Honolulu to Las Vegas. If you keep the recommendations that I have made here in mind, hopefully, your family won't go through the same ordeal as mine. Good luck on your move! read more

Island Movers? What it should really be called is Island Douchers. Worst experience of my life. I had a treadmill delivered and asked if they could dispose of the old one. They agree without a problem and so I tipped them for being able to do that so generously for me. Turns out they left it outside of my building when I had told them not to. Thankfully they had left their power drill at my house. I was very upset and I told them I'd give it back as long as they promise d this time to take it away like I had originally ordered in the first place. Upon walking back up to my unit I observed them from my balcony doing the EXACT same thing that I had countlessly told them not to. My building maintenance/manager sure had a pick with me due to Island Mover's shady carelessness and disregard for customers. I ran back downstairs and chased after their truck. I asked them why they continued to dump it there and told me they had no room in their ginormous moving truck (which I saw inside and was indeed completely empty)!! They took advantage of me and I extremely regret tipping their ungrateful and rude a**. Why promise a customer if you can't own up to it, only to have me haul the heavy thing down and up again from my building in the pouring rain. My only option then was to phone their manager. I had a long talk with him. His tone was very fake and his apology really made me feel like he didn't give a rats a** about my problem. He said "I'm sorry there's nothing we can do." Well guess what, I'm here on your yelp now and I can understand why you're not at 4 stars+ like other companies. In fact you deserve a -1 star for your terrible and unhelpful customer service. How about a free haul away or some type of compensation next time for all the inconvenience and the unprofessional work ethic from your company. There is definitely a customer service/rep issue and they definitely need to look over their hiring process as well. Seriously a complete joke. read more

These guys are horrible. Standard hidden charges, sleight of hand, and other lousy practices that have earned moving companies a bad reputation. I hired them because of a pretty solid reference and regretted it. They are good at putting up a front with quick response until they get you hooked. Then comes the shenanigans, with fast moving but ineffective packing work, sneaky charges (parking permit, hourly trucking that is not properly logged, etc.), overpriced packaging supplies (really, $210 for a bundle of paper?) and the local vs. 'outsider' vibe. I walked away from this experience hoping to never move again. If I do, you can rest assured I will either DIY or hire a competent company. I will say that when I complained, the one manager acknowledged some error and reduced my bill somewhat, but I already felt taken by that point. read more

Commercially - when you need a ton of stuff like a full truck load of wares delivered in 3 different location and different items picked up and placed at different places Island Movers really delivered. I worked for a company that had 3 offices, and a ton of stuff needed to be switched from palce to place and back to somewhere else. As long as one can plan out in advance the company is great at accomidating needs such as small or large jobs. Phoning can be a pain in the butt - so be ready to call them before you need a job done way in advance- call 1 or 2 weeks before you need something. My advice - do not call around the time that UH or other schools are starting or finishing- it is their busiest time and they may be busy or very booked. Call and give as much notice as possible- write down who you talked to - dont rely on email only or phone only get confirmation and be ready to call dispatch if there are any problems on the day of your delivery. Still good guys working there- mostly locals working hard to provide for their families- they really want to work hard and get stuff in and out safely and go home as best they can. If you are nice the the people on the phone they happen to be nice back to you- a little polite ty or please goes a long way in them trying to give advice or help in the longrun. AVOID this company. Horrible service, rude, unhelpful employees. I returned a large item to Costco, for which Island Movers was contracted to do the pickup. I rearranged my schedule and waited around all day for the scheduled pickup and no one showed up. I called and spoke to a manager, Tim, who was completely unapologetic and basically said he had no idea what happened. He seemed amused when I told him I was frustrated because I had scheduled my whole day around the pickup. They rescheduled pickup and took the item. 2 months later I still had no refund (and this is a $2500 refund!) from Costco because, as it turned out, Island Movers had failed to process the pickup confirmation paperwork. I had called Island Movers twice in that time to follow up and April was curt and kept giving me misinformation about the process. She always seemed in a hurry to get me off the phone and seemed defensive that I was calling to ask about the status. Horrible experience. I expect better from a local company. read more

I actually had a good experience with them except for one thing that actually wasnt their fault but our complexes and neighbors. So our buildings were being renovated almost 2 years ago and we had to be relocated to another apartment in the meantime and Island Movers was the company that our complex used to move our belongings. They came in to my apartment and were fast, wrapped everything with care, and moved it out with care. I was amazed how strong they were of course most were big polynesians and most were nice too they would joke around and make us laugh. One did use our bathroom but asked first so of course i didnt mind. The only negative i had which i said wasnt their fault was we got bed bugs. Im not for sure which apartment had them but i could speculate it was the apartment below us because my cousin who lives in another building said the movers were grossed out because that apartment was dirty and messy and the little boys bed had bed bugs? That is disgusting. Anywho im assuming my bed and couches got stored away with these people's things for 2 months because we had bed bugs! Its probably the WORST insect problem to ever have. I watched shows of people having bed bug infestations but i never thought it could happen to us and it wasnt even my fault. I was so grossed out and it took us months to get rid of and finally did thank god. Had to toss my bed and 2 couches but thank god the nightmare is over. Not sure if they moved our things with care because we were in the apartment watching but we were happy with their services. read more

Ridiculous and unreliable company. Lowes apparently contracted this company to deliver our kitchen cabinets. They were supposed to deliver at 0900. At 1200 we hadn't heard anything so we called. No answer. After 4 calls we got someone who said they should be delivered at 1400. At 1500 we called again. They said 1600. At 1630 the driver called to say he would be there in 20 min. An hour later he showed up. We live in a condo and had the elevator reserved from 0900 to 1630. They granted us a few extra minutes. The driver then had the audacity to say that he would need my help unloading and moving the boxes. If I could give 0 stars I would. read more

They actually drove off somewhere to have their lunch taking their sweet time, came back and continued moving, and charged us for their lunch time taken. If they told us they would be charging for the lunch time taken, we would have gone elsewhere. They also messed up the bed and lost one of the items and refused to take responsibility for it. I don't know how these guys do with actual moving, but there storage department sucks. Miscommunications up the yazoo and I took a day off to get my storage unit cleaned out. They told me it would be ready. Not only was it not ready, I had to walk through a bunch of construction and warehouse activity to get to my unit. A lawsuit waiting to happen. Again, not sure how they are moving people's things, but never ever use them for storage. read more

My experience with this company has been unpleasant. And others that I know have had problems with them also so I know that I am not alone. In my case, I ordered a refrigerator from Sears and they delivered it but refused to move out the old one into the garage as they said I did not order a move-out service. But eventually they did move the old one out. By the way, I spoke with a friend who also had a problem with them after ordering appliances from Sears. It turns out that you don't have to purchase a move-out service to have the old appliance removed. They simply won't move a dissimilar appliance from the one you're having them install. Going back to the movers, the two workers forgot to install the rollers in the fridge I ordered. So now I have to go through the whole process of getting the parts for my refrigerator. I ordered a large two door refrigerator that was not cheap and got cheap service. My friend it turned out had the same two guys whom he described to a tee. In his case they damaged the counter while moving the appliance in. He didn't make an issue of it as he didn't want to deal with the hassle. Given this experience that I have had with Island Movers I may not order anything from Sears ever again. That's too bad because Sears was okay when it came to the ordering part. It's just that they chose the wrong moving company to deliver the goods. read more

We just spent two full days with this company and they were very respectful and hard working. Although we won't see the condition of our shipment until the end of July when we arrive in Florida, what we did experience with them on this end, was pure professionalism and they were pretty good at sticking to their scheduled arrival times. Island Movers definitely provides the best pricing for inter-island moves but is it worth it? It is certainly debatable. I can see that they take great care in packaging our belongings and they are efficient in the process. However, it took them TWO WEEKS to have them sailed to Maui when I know Young Brother's overnight barge from Oahu to Maui departs THREE TIMES A WEEK. What made it more unacceptable was that they have an actual office in Maui so manpower was not the issue. Had my fiance known delivery time was this absurd, we may have picked another company so that he didn't have to sleep on a futon for almost two weeks. read more

I created an account just to give this review. I was scheduled to have a delivery today of a washer my landlord bought. I was called yesterday and given a 3 hour time window. I took time off work, (therefore losing money), and NO ONE showed up!! No one called !!! So I left for work, called Best Buy, and they couldn't get a hold of dispatch, so NO ONE could tell me where and why my washer was never delivered?! When I finally finished with Best Buy, ( they told me I'd probably have to wait another WEEK.... A WEEK, therefor losing MORE MONEY because now I have to coin wash!!!!!!!) I called island movers. They were closed and no one answered at the dispatch number given. I couldn't take ALL day off work, only the THREE hours allotted to me. I never got ANY CALL from island movers WHATSOEVER, regarding my delivery, even tho they called to confirm the previous day. AND my landlord even called THEM today before my scheduled delivery time to confirm! Very disappointed !!! So I have to be inconvenienced AGAIN by island movers and figure this mess out! All could have been AVOIDED if they could have kept their word and just delivered my washer in the THREE HOURS they allotted! BEST BUY, PLEASE switch moving companies to EXPRESS MOVERS! I contacted Island Movers to move my family to a different residence in Kapolei, because after I had spoken with 3 other companies, I noticed all of them were more expensive, and they all charged more hours to complete the job. Secondly, upon contacting Island Movers, I was set up with an appointment for them to meet with me to go over an estimate for our move, he was on time. Our move was scheduled, and the moving coordinator made sure we got our preferred time, between 8-9 am. The 2 men assigned for our move had all of our furnishings packed and on the truck in record time, and they were extremely friendly and professional. Actually, they didn't want me to do anything. They got all of our furnishings moved into our new place, set everything up, made sure that were were satisfied, and to top it off, they did it in less time than they had estimated which is surprising as I know some other companies would prefer to pad the bill. They took great care with our items, and they did such a great job, we gave them a tip just for handling everything in such a professional manner with no problems at all. To top it off, the moving coordinator contacted us afterwards to make sure we were satisfied, and we are. We will definitely use them again in the future, and I would recommend their services to anyone I know, just a splendid job well done! read more

I never thought I would use the words "soft and gentle" when talking about a moving service, but that is exactly what I can say about Island Movers. I was extremely impressed with the professionalism of the movers and how gentle they were with my belongings. Almost to an extent that they would pay me $$$$ for any damage. They had an array of moving equipment for any piece of furniture needed to move. Before we started moving, they all came to me to introduce themselves and used my name the entire process. My husband and I are moving to the mainland. We used Island Movers when we moved here. Just had a wonderful experience with Spencer and Daniel. They had the expertise and patience to help my husband and I while also efficiently packing all of our items. This one thing I will miss about Hawaii. I fortunately did not get to the actual moving part. I called to schedule an appointment to get an estimate. Moving to the Mainland in December. I know a long way out, but wanted to get an idea if it is better to sell our belongings or to ship based on the cost. Well, it started with the extremely rude girl on the phone who repeatedly did not want to even schedule me and when I insisted she finally scheduled me. So I get my appointment, they give me an hour window 11-12 pm. I don't get a call to confirm or anything, so it gets to be about 1130 finally get a call saying she is on her way. I explain, like I did when I set the appointment up, that I live in Waikiki. Parking SUCKS, my building has very limited guest parking which is shared with contractors and even less street parking. I let her know that. I then get a call from her around 1145 saying she cannot find a parking spot and guest parking is not available either. So I tell her she can either try driving around some more, or there is a parking lot around the corner to park in. It should cost no more then $5 for the half hour parking. She then proceeds to ask if I have received other estimates, which I have. She then asked me to just give her the weight and she'll give me an estimate. I was floored. I previously explained when I called to make the appointment, that I have a few items that need special pricing, like our 70" TV. So when I asked if she was not going to come up because of the parking, she said well it's not worth it to pay. So at that point, I told her to not worry about it and thanks for wasting my time. Took time off of work to wait to have the estimate, for her to cancel due to difficulty in parking. I am sure I am not the first person in Waikiki to request a quote, and if they don't like coming here then they should just not schedule in the area. Waste of time, worst customer service ever. Now after reading the reviews on here I am very glad they didn't show up. Even if they quoted me cheaper, wouldn't go with them. Who needs this kind of headache, moving is headache enough. read more

I really appreciated the fact that our prized possessions were handled as if they were fine china--or better yet--like our stuff was they're own, imagine that! Treating customers like family. at 5:37pm on Wednesday 4/13/16 an island mover truck had back into a driveway. Blocking in my parked car in a marked stall for more than 30 minutes.( it probably would have been much longer, had I not called their office and complained). This show a complete disregard and disrespect for anyone else by these employees of Island Movers. This may seem like a small issue to some. I have had nothing but positive experiences with Island Movers. From the initial contact about a quote to the pick up of our stuff, they have been professional and fantastic.* The guy who came to do an estimate of our moving costs was straight up with me about how to ship my books and LPs (media mail!) to save some cash on the moving expenses, while the woman who walked me through the moving process step-by-step was very thorough. The guys who actually did the packing and loading were respectful and extremely efficient. I highly recommend their service for moving household goods. From other reviews it looks like people have mostly complained about Island Movers when they have been contracted to deliver for other large companies. Given the quality of service we received for our household move, I can only assume that the fault may lie not with Island Movers but with the companies (Macy's, Sears) themselves. Island Movers have been nothing but professional and competent in my dealings with them so far. *Our stuff hasn't been delivered yet, so I can't yet speak to the quality of the service of their partners on the mainland. We used Island Movers for a business function and requested the move with less than two weeks to spare. They accommodated us and were professional and courteous; much more so than the other companies that were called. Carinna from customer care provided great follow up and that much needed assurance that i wasn't forgotten. Unfortunately, the original estimator did not estimate the amount of items to be moved and Nick and his crew (poor guys) had to figure out how to get a second truck at the last minute. A second truck was unavailable, but they forged ahead and got everything moved to three different locations, having to make a return trip. Because Nick was able to finish and complete our move, and with the final estimate being less that first estimated, we were very happy and pleased with Island Movers. We all have choices and Island Movers was and will be our choice always. Customer service start from the first call and ends with the last contact. Even the way my initial calls were answered already told me who was and was not interested in my business. Although I bombarded the assistant estimator with emails (most of which were returned), he was always professional and courteous. read more

I have used quite a few moving companies in various parts of the country, and I can honestly say that Island Movers is among the best (second only to Bookstore Movers in DC). They moved us from Aiea to downtown Honolulu, start-to-finish, in about 3 hours, which was less than half their quoted estimate. The appraiser gave me a lot of helpful tips to speed up the move, and the movers themselves were extremely careful with the furniture. Every couch, dresser, entertainment center, etc had its own dolly, so there was almost no risk of dinging walls or scratching the floor. The movers also helped me put anti-scratch pads on the furniture before setting things down, which is above-and-beyond in my mind. This is an extremely professional outfit. They are not the cheapest movers in town, but I feel like I got great value for the money. read more

After enduring many moves over a period of 11 years, I cannot adequately describe what a delight it was to "experience" Island Movers. Each member of the crew went above and beyond. I was amazed to witness them hoisting our very large headboard up through a window with ease. As I told the crew, I feel that the company should be called "Extreme Island Movers." :-) These men worked hard throughout the day and into the night with "can do" attitudes. I am so upset with ISLAND MOVERS. While the people who actually do all the lifting are great, the office staff is truly incompetent. They do not follow up on anything. Our stuff arrived and just sat around until we called them to see what was up. They give one an estimate and expect 75% of it up front. As we have found out, the estimates are grossly inflated and the 75% ends up being more than the total. So for a month they have owed me money because they overcharged me. Last week when I called they figured out they had sent the check to the wrong address. I was told they would cut the check immediately. One week later I called and they still haven't cut the check and were going to wait till their "next run of checks" in another week. The woman whom I talked to today says she will get a special "express" check cut tomorrow. We shall see. I warned them last week that if I didn't have the check in a week, I would express my displeasure with their company. I would not recommend ISLAND MOVERS to anyone. I think the people in the office could learn a lot from the people who do the lifting about customer service. My other issue with them is that they charged me $109 per roll for the padding. Not only did they take it to recycle, but they used a half roll as a filler. They also wrapped all the pillows/cushions in padding. Why? read more

Island Movers I am disappointed. You called me Thursday to confirm my delivery for Friday between 1:00 and 5:00 p.m. then you called me Friday at 4:50 to confirm a delivery for Saturday between 10:00 and 2:00. When i asked why you weren't making the original Friday delivery you blamed it on Home Depot. Well, its Saturday at 2:20. You haven't shown and you dont answer your phone.
