*****UPDATE 6/22****** They left at almost 0100 and we were so tired we didn't notice they left many things behind. They left behind a whole cabinet full of cookbooks, knives, pampered chef utensils and misc items. We called and left a message to return asap........ NOTHING! They don't care about the military families. They only care about the money. We had no choice but to stay up that late. Regardless of high a PCS season, they need to learn customer service. Instead of being money hungry turn, down a job that you are incapable of completing with 100% satisfaction. Still no return to get tge stuff they left. ************************* I wish I would have went with my gut instinct and cancelled our pack out. We have been stationed here for 3 years and anybody (military families) that had ISLAND MOVERS pack them out was dissatisfied. They sent one guy to pack us out for the first two days. They were aware we had over 15,000 pounds! They stated that they could only senf one person because it was high PCS time. That seems to be their excuse regardless of the time of year. Today is the third day and ISLAND MOVERS finally sent two more packers. Long story short. It is 1918 on the last day of our packout and they still have three rooms to pack. I have never heard anything positive about this company in the military world. PLEASE AVOID THEM FOR YOUR PCS MOVE. I was hoping they changed from all the bad press but........You can tell the company is money hungry and works their employees to death. Island Movers moved us from Honolulu back to Northern California. Upon unpacking my office equipment in California we discovered that two new noise-cancelling headsets were missing. We had purchased them in Honolulu, and they should have been in the office pack. The office items were the last to be packed in Honolulu by two Island Movers employees, who were alone in the home while everyone else was doing paperwork down at the sea container. Thus the only person(s) who had access to the headsets and opportunity to take those headsets were those two employees. read more

Don't waste your time with this company. Their communications are terrible, and never answer the phone, after they get your booking. They claim they are under staffed, and I just think no one wants to work there. They were so late, it cost me $250 extra charge for my movers to wait for there container delivery. Island movers was great! Beginning with the office staff and the estimator!He was very straight forward about the fact that we still had too much stuff to fit into our 2 bedroom 2 bath condo..from our 5 bedroom 3 bath house..we showed him a floor plan of the new place, so we were advised to down size even more.. Thank goodness family took the over load..luckily the estimator had a great personality.. Then the packers came and packed us up .. They gave us hints to help make that go smoothly before packing day... Then came delivery day.. It took about 3-4 hours to get it in the elevator and up/ in to our condo!! My move was mostly simple, consisting of a full sized washer & dryer from a condo to a house, requiring only a 2 man team. The GOOD: The moving team (George & Bryan) worked quickly and efficiently and my appliances arrived with no issues at all. The setup for the move took more time than the move itself, since I had to reserve a the condo's elevator & make sure that the driver got specific directions to the destination (since it doesn't show up correctly via GPS). Calls to the Island Movers main line & emails to Island Movers were always answered and my questions/concerns were always addressed quickly (though not always effectively, see "The BAD"). Jason, the Moving Coordinator, was also very clear regarding basic liability coverage (weight based, as of this posting) versus extended coverage (a fixed premium per every $1000 replacement coverage), when I asked about it. The BAD (but it got completely resolved): I was originally scheduled for an 8-9 AM arrival time for the movers, which needed to be changed to be no earlier than 9AM, due to strict rules at the condo. Unfortunately Jason was unavailable during the work-days leading up to my move, so I contacted the Island Movers main phone # on three separate occasions to make sure Island Movers knew to show up no earlier than 9AM. But due to a miscommunication somewhere between the phone staff, dispatcher, and moving team, George & Bryan still showed up well before 9AM and ended up having to wait around for 15 minutes, with nothing to do until the elevator became available. I was worried that I might end up paying for the wasted 15 minutes (despite my efforts to avoid it happening), but after listening to my concerns, George took care of it to my satisfaction & relief! In my experience, it's unreasonable to expect everything to go 100% smoothly whenever people are involved. It's best to communicate concerns to the service providers directly, when it's possible. Politeness also tends to go a long way as a customer. That said, I'm very satisfied with the way Island Movers handled my move and I would use them again in a future move. read more

Island movers SUCKS!!!!!!! They were way late delivering a refrigerator to my house and we had about $500 worth of food that spoiled awaiting the refrigerator. We bought a Kenmore (Kenmore products are a piece of shit, another story) that broke less than two weeks after bought it brand new from a Sears distribution out'let. Still under warranty Sears agreed, after 'twisting their arm to do so' to honor it and provide a replacement, however Island movers was extremely tardy on delivery. After getting orders to deploy to Afghanistan and deciding to temporarily move my husband and one year old daughter back to Korea, I chose to use Island Movers. In a period of almost two and a half years, I had used Island Movers two times. The first was on the military because I had moved to the island and the second I paid out of pocket because I decided to move from Kaneohe closer to Honolulu. I was so happy about the efficiency and work of Tim's crew that I had asked for them for this third move that I would have to pay out of pocket. I even made several referrals and highly recommended this company to other military families. One of the island mover's employees came to our apartment and gave us an estimate stating that they would give us three men and it would take about 5 and a half hours to move all of our belongings. I live in a two bedroom, 1100 sq feet apartment. Already having moved with this company, I decided to pack every thing into boxes and move them in advance into a storage unit so that the movers would only have to move the furniture, saving time and money. For my last move it took four movers four and a half hours to move a 1600 sq ft house from Kaneohe to Honolulu. This time it would not have to take so long because I had already packed stuff and put it into storage my self and the storage unit was in the neighborhood. Would you believe that It took the team 5 and a half hours to move the furniture from my apartment into a storage unit that was less than 2 miles away? In my apartment complex I had reserved one elevator that was only for the movers to use. They had one of the three men push the button up and down while the other mover took it to the truck. I even saw two of them taking a smoke break while one of them was arranging furniture in the back to the truck. No efficiency or sense of urgency. This is very important especially if you are paying for the time that it takes them to get to your apartment and to get back to their business. They charged me an hour travel time which came out to roughly $225! I called the company to express my dissatisfaction, but the damage to their reputation had already been done. There was talk about giving some money back, but nothing was done. For those military families that have to relocate your families, you know how stressful and costly it can be especially if you are preparing for a deployment. I calculated the cost of relocating my family and it was almost $9500. This is for paying the movers, storing my household goods, car and airfare to fly me, my husband and daughter to Korea. For this move I did not feel I service I received was worth the money I paid for. I usually never post stuff on blogs, but I felt this was very important. We hired this company to move some appliances. They charges us for extra men because they said the appliance was big and for each step it had to be moved. Then they didn't show up on the appointed day but 8 days later and then refused to carry the appliance down the steps (this was with 4 large males ) because it was too hard. Myself and 2 daughters did it instead. Next time hire Sears, they moved a larger appliance with 1 man and a hand truck only. Don't use this company, they are rude, arrogant , and don't show up or call when supposed to. They got one star because they won't let you rate them if you give them none read more

I wished I could have read the reviews on Yelp before I decided to go with Island Mover. I didn't like anything about this company. First of all they didn't mention anything about charges for their commute. The company is located somewhere in town, but they charged me 30 minutes extra from my place in town to their factory in Pearl City. Not to mention the movers were about 1 hour late. As for the moving part, they are not very efficient or professional either. I paid about $225 to have a sofa moved. I definitely will not go with them again. It's too expensive. read more

Avoid Island Movers Inc at all costs. I purchased a range from Sears. Sears was great. Island mover crew dropped off the range. Just had the kitchen renovated last year, got some really nice Cambria quartz counter tops. So three guys show up and bring the stove in. When they pushed it in place they hit the corner of the stone counter top and popped a chip the size of a dime out. We did not notice it at the time. We were more worried about our really nice floor, checked them out, no floor damage so we signed the paperwork saying they didn't cause any damage. Before they were out of our street, my wife saw the stone chip. I immediately called Sears. They gave me a claim number. After a week or so, i submitted the claim along with photos. I got a denial of claim letter from Island Movers investigators who said they denied the claim because they interviewed their movers and they all said their crew did not put the stove in place ad they all stated that me and 'my maintenance man' pushed the stove in place. I could not believe this. There was no maintenance man. It is a complete lie. I've sent another letter back to them with photos from my security cameras so the investigator can be sure they talked to the right delivery team. It is either a big mistake or a standard way that they conduct their investigations. Waiting for a response. In the mean time, I'm preparing letters to Sears and Home Depot recommending they do NOT use Island Movers for their deliveries. On another note, my coworker just bought a fridge from Sears. They noticed some pitting on the door. Once again Sears was great and set up delivery of a new fridge. When Island Movers delivered it, they tried to talk my friend into just swapping out the fridge door. Even Sears said that was wrong. I don't know how these jokers stay in business. I do not recommend Island Movers under any circumstance. Definitely not. You've been warned! read more

Poor customer service. I called Island movers last week Friday to schedule a move on the 8th of December and they scheduled an estimator to come out today the 27th of November from 11-12pm. Guess what, when they didn't show I called them to see what the hold up was and they told me they didn't even have me in the system. I had a very bad experience with the delivery of my refrigerator from Best Buy, who uses this horrible company for delivery. I'll summarize my experience. I get home, the delivery guys are passed out in their truck. Kinda unprofessional. Then the haole guy comes in with his shoes. When I asked him to take off his shoes he said he couldn't to protect his feet. He said they could lay down something. I said that would be good. But he never did and kept walking in and out of my house with shoes. Ok, I can mop after I thought. Then the guy makes a comment that I bought too big of a refrigerator for my door. I asked if I need to return it. He said no, they would remove my door and remove the doors from the refrigerator. Just before they bring the refrigerator in my house, they ask me to sign the paper. I asked what is this. He said it's a waiver that they aren't held liable for scratching my refrigerator but don't worry it's just a formality, he didn't have concerns about it scratching. He said there should be enough room to get it safely in. I asked if there was anything they could do to protect the refrigerator to avoid it getting scratched. He said they could put a blanket over it but that wasn't necessary; and said "trust me, it will be fine, it won't get scratched." So I authorized them to proceed. They bring the appliance in the house and they f$cking scratch it, along the WHOLE top door frame. I point this out to the haole guy and he says. It's not permanent, it should come out with glue gone. Then I ask abount all the staining along the whole front doors of the stainless steel. He said it's from the bubble wrap they used to protect the fridge. He told me to buy stainless steel wipes to remove it. Well guess what, the scratches did not all come out and every time I open the refrigerator or freezer doors, I'm reminded of this awful experience. This is UNACCEPTABLE to me, you pay $1000 to get your new appliance mishandled. What kind of customer service is this. It seems like the whole thing was handled out of pure laziness with a lack of precaution for the customers property and purchase. Very very very disappointing experience. It is my expectation that when you pay 1K for a purchase, your delivery should be handled with care, and the item should arrive in your home how it looked when you purchased it. The only positive part was the nice Samoan delivery guy who hooked up the water line for me. read more

Bad attitudes. Our refrigerator broke just before Christmas so we bought one at Sears. They sent Island Movers to deliver it on Christmas Eve. No one wants to work on Christmas Eve and no one wants to be without a refrigerator during the holidays so we're all in an unfortunate situation. That said, my dad planned to tip the delivery guys well beyond a typical tip... for the holidays. But they let themselves in the house, muddy boots on, ignored my mother who greeted them in the kitchen, slammed cabinet doors closed that were in their way, ignored my mother again when she tried to make small talk, refused to make eye contact with people and just made demands: "The water off?", "Unplug the fridge.", And when we asked questions: "Would it be easier if we let you come up the back stairs?" We got cold silence. They were upset that the road into our farm was long and muddy and they had to walk in. I get it. It's a tough job. But customers don't get rude service for muddy drives and long walks. And delivery men don't get tips for being rude to my parents in their home on Christmas Eve read more

I moved from Maui to Oahu. The customer service was informative, courteous and timely. The estimator was on time and professional. The packers arrived on time, were very courteous, efficient, quiet, and careful. The boat arrived in Honolulu, but wouldn't release the cargo, don't know why, until the following day, which threw the movers off because they were already fully booked for weeks. So they subcontracted to Aloha Movers, and the delivery was delayed an entire week - very frustrating, though not their fault. I didn't like that the cargo was relegated to a company I didn't know. But Aloha Movers also did a very fine job delivering the cargo. They went over and above the call of duty by helping unload some furniture we had brought in a pickup truck. read more

We just moved to Hawaii few weeks ago. They delivered our stuff yesterday and were fantastic! Arrived early, finished early, and were super efficient. We got everything back in mint condition. They were super organized in their moving process. Helped us unpack all our items, break down boxes, took their rubbish, literally had all our stuff moved in within 2hrs! The guys George, Mike & Brian were so friendly, Polite and efficient. Roxanne in Customer Service was also very helpful the few times we chat on the phone. Showed no consideration for neighbors. I arrived home to find a large delivery truck park in the middle of the street, blocking the turn around and access to my driveway. When the worker saw me sitting in my car he just continued about his business without any apology for the inconvenience or explanation. read more

Island Movers did my household move from Ewa Beach to Mililani Mauka today. The crew consisted of Pe'e, Nick, Taz, Joshua, & one more person that I didn't get his name. They did an outstanding job of moving all our items quickly and safely. They were courteous and made an effort to provide good customer service. They were careful in handling our items to prevent damaging our items & our home. I highly recommend their moving services, & will continue using them for any future moving/delivery needs. read more

I called Island Movers to move us from our 1bdrm. home to another 1bdrm. home just 10 minutes away. When I first talked to a nice woman at their office I told her I wanted to move on a weekday and needed probably 2 - 2 1/2 hrs. she said sure but she would have to send out a man to check out our stuff and give us an estimate, no problem I said. Well our plans changed and we needed a weekend move instead. I called the nice lady at the office and she said that because it was on a weekend that we would have to pay for 4hrs. because that was the rate on the weekends. I understood and said that I wanted to see what the guy who was doing our estimate was going to say. Anyway he came and we got our estimate on our e-mail. The charge was going to be $1400.00!!! That's a $350.00 per hour charge!!! Wholly cow!!! What are these guys going to do, wrap my stuff up in gold? No thank you was my answer. read more

We hired Island Movers, Inc. to move us from downtown Honolulu to Ewa Beach. We had used them once befoere and were satisfied with that move. However this move was a disaster. I fault the crews that were sent to pack and move. On the first day The packing crew would work only three hours as they stated that they were only contracted for four hous and that they counted one hour travel time. This meant that the moving crew on the second day had to complete the packing, loading and unloading. There were three men on the second day with the supervisor doing most of the packing. He advised my wife to leave things in the drawers of the chest so long as they were fulll to prevent movement. After we unpacked we found that my new digital camera and the jewelry box in the chest drawer were missing. We lookied in all boxes and drawers but they were not foundf. The camera had been purchased in January and the jewelrey box contained two perarl necklaces which were wedding gifts from my mother-in-law and were family heirlooms. It also contained a silver bracelet which was a gift from my wife's classmates.I filed a claim for these items which was rejected since we had not taken out additional insurance. I questioned the decision not for the insurance rejection but for the way Island Movers handled the issue. We pointed out that they apparently had a thief on that crew which negatively reflected on the companyy's integrity. They responded that they were not responsible for any theft by their employees. I reject that position, companys are responsibel for the actions of their employees while performing their assigned duties. Island Movers lack of action in this matter is extremently disappointing and only encourages other employees to take any thing they want without any sanction. I would not recommend this company to anyone. All it took was one "bad apple" and the lack of oversight by the management to tarnish the reputation of this company. Auwe Island Movers !! read more

I recently shipped my household goods from Hawaii to Las Vegas. My family and I have been in the military and our stuff got moved from Ca to Guam, to Okinawa and back to Hawaii. None of the furniture was damaged, broken or stolen. However, moving from HI to Las Vegas was a horrible experience. My grandfather clock was broken. According to the LV movers, the clock was not wrapped and no padding and was laying flat in the crates (should have been standing up) and it was wrapped when they left my house. The China cabinet door was broken. Screws and hardware for piano chair and shelves were nowhere to be found. I'm really angry and sad because these stuff were collected from our travels and could not be replaced. And besides, I can't buy another replacement because they were bought overseas. Lesson learned - shop around and read the reviews. read more

I moved to 15 Craigside with a lot of furniture and memorabilia collected over a lifetime. I had such a great experience with Island Movers in 2002 when my mother passed away and moving her things into my sister's and my homes so I expected excellent service this time as well. Well, not only were my expectations met, but surpassed. The movers were prompt. . They explained the process right up front so I knew exactly what to expect from packing to delivery. They packed everything carefully, gently, but effiicently. I was amazed at how gently they wrapped beveled glass, china and Obachan's picture. They were done in no time and all I needed to do was meet them at Craigside. My furniture and all that I owned were delivered in excellent condition. The movers were professional, efficient and extremely courteous. At the end of the day as I looked around my new home I felt very pleased with my decision to use Island Movers again. The people in the office have always been very responsible, friendly and helpful. The guys moving my boxes and furniture have always been careful and in one situation very ingenious to get a long couch around my doorway in a condo into the hall. They were so careful and thoughtful in how to navigate the refrigerators coming in/out the front door due to space issues. They were the best movers I have ever experienced on the island. Horrible customer service. I purchased a fridge from HD and it was contracted to be delivered through Island Movers. I called Island Movers the morning of my delivery to confirm delivery between 12-4pm. I waited serval hours and decided to call Island Movers to see if they were running late. I left several messages without it returned. I called again at 3:10pm, Dorris, the supervisor, answers and tells me my order has been cancelled and they do not give courtesy calls to say they will not be delivering my fridge. She says HD should have called me. Take some responsibility. A simple courtesy call would have been nice. Or how about an apology or simple customer service. I took the day off of work to wait for a fridge, that wasn't coming, to talk to Dorris with an attitude. I wish HD would contract through another company! read more

After negotiating a steep driveway and steps to the house, the refrigerator would not fit through the kitchen door!! Solo and Doug persisted in solving this problem without removing the refrig. doors or taking off the door jamb molding. I appreciate their patience and conservative approach with measuring from all angles, and finally, the decision to try again to push it through the very tight squeeze. I have a small business that occasional imports parts from Asia locations using air freight. For a very small business such as mine, the choices are FedEx, UPS or DHL. DHL does not have a real presence in Hawaii and uses Island Movers for to-door delivery. Island Movers goes the extra mile to get shipments to their destination. You do not get that level of service from FedEx or UPS. Island Movers happily delivers dozens of heavy cartons carefully to our 4th floor location with a smile. They give a courteous call when they are close so we can be ready to receive. Forget that with UPS and FedEx which have dumped our cartons in a lobby of our downtown Honolulu building and provided signature receipts of nobody we know. We pay extra to use DHL knowing Island Movers does the local delivery. I've also used them for a container delivery to a tight downtown lot location on a main street and the driver was amazing. Pinpoint placed it with a smile on the first try. read more

I had Island Movers pack up a large house in Kihei and move things to San Francisco. The container wasn't packed well and everything moved in the container. Many things were broken. It took months to get insurance money back from them, and it did not cover my losses. I would never recommend them. read more
