I have been to this Michelin Bib Gourmand establishment a few times - and I consistently ordered the same things - hainan chicken rice, laksa noodle, milk tea. I once tasted the famous hainan chicken rice in Singapore Chinatown hawker center and this comes close. Other excellent dishes I tried here: char gwey teow (noodle dish), roti, kaya toast, pineapple bun with butter. Weekday vs weekend is drastically different. No wait on weekday lunch, but dozens of parties on Yelp waitlist for weekend. Plan accordingly and put your name on Yelp waitlist. The restaurant has an outside seating area but I think it smells like the sewer so I would avoid it. Coming from the SF bay area, I think the prices for such deliciousness is a steal! I have yet to find anything similar at where I live. My previous favorite was Killiney Kopitiam in Palo Alto which already closed down. There is a free parking structure in the back that goes underground with an elevator.

Stopped by Ipoh Alhambra for breakfast and ordered their breakfast combo with curry instant noodles and pig skin. Really enjoyed it, especially the curry pig skin! The flavor was amazing! One thing I highly recommend is asking for the curry pig skin on the side instead of having it mixed into the noodles. I've found that when it's mixed into the soup, the broth waters down the curry sauce and takes away some of that great flavor. When it's served separately, the pig skin stays coated in that rich curry sauce, and it tastes so much better! I like eating the pig skin on its own while enjoying the noodles and soup separately. You really get to taste the full flavor of the curry this way. Trust me, it makes a difference! As usual the service was great and attentive. Overall, a really satisfying breakfast. Nothing fancy, just good food that hits the spot. If you're a curry pig skin fan, definitely give this combo a try, and remember to ask for the pig skin on the side. That's the way to go! I'll definitely be back!

Food: We ordered the Nasi Lemak with Chicken Curry, Hainan Chicken Rice, Roti Canai with Beef, Stir Fried Flat Noodles with Gravy Sauce and Portuguese Egg Tart. I have absolutely no complaints! Everything was delicious, hearty, and satisfying. If I could order everything on the menu, I would, but I should probably watch my calories haha! If you can only try one dish, I recommend the Nasi Lemak with Rendang, as it is considered Malaysia's national dish and is a must try! Service: Great! There is usually a long wait because of how popular this place is, but the food is worth it. Ambiance: Malaysian kopitiam style, casual and cozy.

First time came here. The foods are amazing! They have rendang which my favorite. The bread is a must try! Price is affordable! You can park on underground. Overall place is clean and always pack and busy! Definitely will comeback!

Good Malaysian food for the standards here. Nasi lemak rice lacked flavor and was too loose, while the char kway teow was pretty good but not quite as good as the ones in Malaysia. The roti with chicken curry was delicious, super flaky and crispy! Laksa was decent, but the shrimp broth wasn't really my thing. The kaya butter toast with egg for dipping was an interesting combo that surprisingly worked well! Join the waitlist before going, as there's almost always a long wait. There's seating inside and outside and it gets pretty loud.

Ipoh Kopitiam has been on my to-dine list for a while now. I finally got to try it at their Arcadia location in the food court of The Shops at Santa Anita. A couple weeks after that day, I intentionally made it a point to try its original location on Garfield Ave in Alhambra. Here I am... Prior to my arrival, I phoned in my order for pick-up. The lady staff I spoke to was nice and pleasant. I was told my order would be ready in 30 minutes. 2 Singapore Style Hainan Chicken Rice that came with complimentary Hot Lemon Tea, Hot Malaysia Milk Tea 1 Roti Canai with Chicken Curry plus Roti Sauce 1 Toast with Kaya & Butter They are located on the first floor of the Regent Plaza. Limited surface parking with more parking underground. I was fortunate to get one surface parking spot. They were super busy with every table occupied. Their waitlist was full. Luckily, I decided to do take-out. My order was ready upon arrival. The lady staff who took my payment was cordial. As for my food order... it was a mix of good and not so great. Rice from Hainan Chicken was a bit mushy. Chicken was moist though. Love the Roti Canai curry and Roti sauce, but chicken was not very moist. Toast looked good, but it tasted just okay. The free lemon and milk teas were surprisingly delightful. After my take-out experience from here, I may just stick with their Arcadia location as it's more convenient at a food court. Btw, the Hainan Chicken Rice over there is better IMHO. Anyway, glad I tried this location. Thanks Ipoh Kopitiam Alhambra!

hainan chicken, kaya toast, nasi lemak

Been wanting to try this place for a while, and it did not disappoint! I got their nasi lemak and their Hainan chicken. I loved the nasi lemak, but I thought their Hainan chicken was just alright. Their white kopi was also disappointing, as it was not what I've had elsewhere at all. However, it was strong and more like a good regular cafe latte than a white kopi. Overall, I did enjoy the nasi lemak, coffee, service, and ambience. The wait was really long, but you are able to join the waitlist on Yelp in advance! Parking was easy, as they have a lot. Would definitely come back to try their other dishes!

One of our favorite spots for this cuisine~ We love the curry here and specifically that toast item (it's simple but good)! The parking is in an undeground lot behind the building, but otherwise convenient to reach.

Hainan chicken, toast with Kaya and butter, char kway teow, Malaysian milk tea

Came on a weekday lunch, definitely still busy but joined the yelp waitlist ahead of time so didn't wait at all upon arrival. Lots of food items have nuts so make sure to let the server know if you have an allergy. Food comes out quick and tastes great. They have some underground parking.

Malaysian Milk Tea

Great SE Asian dishes but the full menu isn't offered all day - we had Tea Time in the afternoon so there wasn't Lakhsa available :( The Beef Curry Tendon is very flavorful and better than the Chicken Curry. Pandan cake is a favorite. Service is fast and friendly. Overall kind of a hidden gem but still a very popular spot

Have been here through the years and it's a great high quality reliable restaurant. I'm sure many have reviews on stand out dishes but I recently had the pleasure to come here for breakfast. Normally I wouldn't frequent this place because their business opens too late for me (9am) but my sister needed to use the labcorp in the same bldg and wanted to try breakfast here so we met up with her. There is an A & B menu column. A looked more western and B looked more Malaysian/Asian. Pretty much enjoyed everything. The coffee and milk tea are much better here than any of its neighboring competitors. Cups are tiny so it's a nuisance to keep asking for a refill but that's how it goes. Wait staff is great and attentive.

Fried noodles for Lazha Noodles

First time here and the long line was unbelievable! We literally waited 1 hour under this humid hot weather . The food was delicious. We order a lot of food to try it on. The ones that stood out waere the Lazha Noodles and Fried Kwai Tiew . Both are tasty and full of flavor and perfectly seasoned. No wonder the long lines because this place has been awarded 4 years in a row as Michelin Star. The wait was worth it, but next time I'd rather order Togo and pickup to avoid the lines under this heat. Service seemed like playing Hide and Seek, we needed to flag them couple of times due to restaurant being busy and food backed up. The server was so nice to give us drink refills to compensate for the delays. Really appreciated it. Will definitely order Togo or come back during odd hours to taste their other food in the Menu.

Shannon Z.

Delicious and casual Malaysian restaurant. I really enjoyed the Hainan chicken, it was juicy and came with flavorful ginger rice. Also enjoyed the flat noodle dish, which was super flavorful with a deep umami flavor. There's also a good amount of appetizers to choose from such as the toast and roti. Food came out super quickly!!

They have so many different options, including rice dishes, sauces, fried chips, snacks, and Indonesian drinks. I actually think some of their dishes taste a lot better than some of the Indonesian restaurants we've tried in SoCal. Everything is always freshly made, and the flavors really remind me of home. My friends and I usually get the banana-wrapped rice with beef rendang or the chicken version. We also tried the nasi kucing with octopus, and it was really good! The only downside I'd say about the rice plates is that I wish they gave more meat and less rice, especially with the larger wrapped ones. The prices definitely aren't cheap for these meals, but the food does taste good. We also tried their fried banana topped with cheese and Ceres, and it was chef's kiss. It was so good that I regret not getting more! This is a place we always used to visit when we lived in SoCal, and we still make a point to stop by whenever we're visiting down there now that we've moved to the Bay Area. There are still so many other dishes from this place that I haven't tried yet, but I definitely will the next time I visit! Parking is first come first serve and it's free. Sometimes during the weekend, it gets packed. There are limited outdoor seatings in front of the shop and no indoor seatings. They have microwave inside for you to heat the food and water as well. I highly recommend checking this place out if you're ever in the area. If you're craving authentic Indonesian flavors that remind you of home, this is definitely worth a visit.

It's very rare to find these authentically served here in California even. And I was determined to pass down these gastro memories to my grown children. After five minutes of sampling this meal, their eyes lit up, faces zoned, and feasting was frenetic. This was the "IT" they'd been craving too. We ordered 2 rice dishes (Nasi Rendang, Nasi Lemat). Both were nicely presented with spicy chili paste peanuts, fresh cuke, lightly blanched crunchy cabbage, specially prepared hard boiled egg and tofu wedge (complete meals) AND meat dish (crispy chicken, or tender stewed beef chunks). These were both slightly different than my memories but delicious. We ordered noodle "soup" Laksa (flat rice noodles in red coconut curry with hb egg and plump shrimp). Wonderful. Bingo. And a fried noodle dish - Borneo style Kwai Teow, exactly captured a familiar special flavor while added crispy vegetable brightened the dish. Bingo again. Perfect. Appetizer Gado-gado (Indonesian salad topped with large tofu, sprouts, peanut sauce, hb egg) was loved, if not exactly as I remembered either. Nice fresh romaine lettuce too. What was not perfect but worth overlooking? Yes service is brusque at times depending on individuals, but fast and attentive. Venue is quick-lunch-grab caliber but cheerful and fits with street vendor vibe. Don't expect chili paste or sambal blachan on the table, and don't try the watered down stuff on offer in plastic condiment dispensers. However all dishes proved we needn't have worried - perfectly seasoned already. The Roti bread, served with a small but ample cup of red coconut curry, was lovely and delicate, but only 1 piece per serving is a ripoff. We ordered two for the sake of the feast and still emerged below budget overall. Drink selections were a bit limited, but green tea and Thai tea are offered alongside the usual lunch fare. Water is served chilled. Total bill surprisingly reasonable to fill 3 of us completely with take aways enough for a few luncheons thid week. Very grateful family here. Thank you.

It came with crispy tempura-battered duck, fresh mixed sprouts and grapefruit, pine nuts and tahini topped with drizzles of blended hoisin sauce, chu hou sauce, and plum sauce. Greens were great, but duck was a tad salty for my taste. I got the Truffle Wok Seared Noodles with Scallops (lunch portion). It was recommended by our server, Cameron. Thank you for the delicious recommend! Dish came with a small bowl of intensely sour, spicy, salty, and aromatic Tom Yum soup... very good! Overall dish was amazing served with tasty wok-flavor handmade egg noodles and perfectly cooked scallops complemented with yummy mushrooms, brussels sprout leaves, and Thai basil all tossed in a dark black truffle sauce. YUM! I slurped up the noodles in a jiffy. Unfortunately, it only came with 3 medium sized scallops. I would get this again if it came with 3 more scallops and more noodles.
