I have moved many times in the past 35 years and I must say this was the easiest, most enjoyable move ever. When I called to see if someone could come out to give us an estimate for what we needed to have moved, they asked us what day and time would be convenient for us. The gentleman that came to the house was right on time, introduced himself and gave us his card as soon as he came in the door. He made a list of every item in every room of the house, made notes on items that needed extra careful handling. He told us what they could pack and what they couldn't which we appreciated. They will not pack TV's or Computers. They will move them, but they can't be responsible for packing them. The young ladies that came to pack dishes, glassware, pictures and any breakable items did such a good job that I had a hard time getting the items out of the wrapping once I started unpacking at my new location. We made an appointment for the movers to pack up the rest of the house, with the understanding that everything would be going into storage until we bought a new place. They were very polite, very knowledgeable about what they had to do and very efficient. They were packed up and gone in less than 4 hours. Every piece of furniture was wrapped in quilts and taped up before it was even removed from the house. They covered the floors in the house so there would be no problem tracking any dirt or leaves from outside. Once the items were outside, they were placed on pallets and shrink wrapped before going into storage. I emailed the consultant to schedule delivery and was contacted they very next day, asked when I needed delivery of my belongings and was given a five day window, which was fine since the renovations on my house were not quite complete. We scheduled a delivery date and was told I would be contacted as to the approximate time the driver would be here. I received a call from the driver on Friday asking if it would be possible make the delivery one day early or would it cause a problem. Since the work was done, I told them that would be fine and they gave me a 2 hour time window for delivery. They were the sweetest men. They came in, looked around to see the layout of the house and started unloading the truck. Each box that came into the house had a number and as they were placed in each room, the number was read off and checked off the list. They set up our bed for us, and even moved the furniture around for us so that we would not scratch the floor. We then did a double check on the list to make sure each and every box was marked off before they left. I have already recommended your Company to friends and co-workers in the VA area. Extremely Disappointing and Heartbreaking Experience - A Warning to Military Families As a family with over 20 years of active duty service in the United States Marine Corps, we've endured countless moves--both domestic and international. Never have we experienced the level of negligence, disrespect, and complete disregard for our family and belongings as we did with Interstate Moving Company during our most recent overseas PCS back to the United States. Our household goods shipment was declared a total loss due to severe mold contamination--an issue that stemmed directly from Interstate's failure to safely and responsibly store and handle our possessions. These were not just "items"; they were irreplaceable family memories, collected over decades of service, travel, and sacrifice. The emotional toll of this loss was immense. Worse still, the company's response to our repeated inquiries was consistently unsympathetic, unprofessional, and inexcusable. The process dragged out for over 10 agonizing months, during which we were forced to repurchase the basic necessities to make our new house livable--all while receiving no meaningful support or resolution from Interstate. Their customer service representatives were not only unhelpful but deeply disrespectful. One representative flatly told us it was "not their responsibility to babysit our belongings." When we escalated the issue to her supervisor, we encountered the same dismissive attitude--no accountability, no apology, no effort to make things right. Nearly a year after our return stateside, we finally received compensation--but only what they deemed acceptable, a sum that fell woefully short of the true value of our losses. The emotional and financial impact of this move will stay with us for a long time. To other military families: do not entrust this company with your life's possessions. What should have been a seamless part of our transition turned into a heartbreaking ordeal. After two decades of service to this country, we expected better. This very well may be the least professional service I have ever encountered. I received almost nonstop texts and calls within moments of reaching out for a quote. The texts were not professional. They said things like, "What's a matter you? You no need an estimate for you move?" (sic) Given that I would like a service that can communicate, and will understand contracts, this was not a great way to instill confidence. When questioned, I was told that this kind of writing was meant to be funny and different, and if I wanted clear and professional communication then I wasn't the consumer they wanted. That was not exactly what they said, as the follow-up response was as garbled and incoherent as the one before. I actually had to block the person contacting me because he simply would not stop responding. I am sorry, but I would like to know that the person I am entrusting with a move can read a contract, communicate professionally, and provide basic customer care. That's not a super high standard. I can see from other reviews that this kind of lack of customer care and professionalism is an ongoing problem. As someone who has been working since I was a child, I am always stunned when grown people cannot manage something as simple as communication. Communication is the first contact a business has with a customer. I actually did not want to book a clown. I was looking for a moving company, and one with the literacy and communication skills to handle quotes, contracts, insurance, and other business practices that would go beyond texting, "What's a matter you?" to a potential customer. The reality is, literacy matters. I need to know that the company understands my needs, that we both understand a clear contract, that we have policies in place for insurance, and that those at the company can professionally communicate. Otherwise, frankly, I don't trust them to handle all of my possessions. Again, this is a rather low bar to cross. read more

Moving at any age can be very challenging, moving in your early seventies can create even more stress and anxiety. My Borther and I are moving my Mom from VA to CA so that she can spend some of her golden years with him. From our first point of contact with Interstate, to Elener (our move manager), to the driver and crew arriving at the front door, our experience was outstanding! Company pride was evident! The tractor and trailer were spotless inside and out and the driver and crew had fresh, crisp uniforms and brilliant smiles! Matting and stair runners were immediately placed to protect carpet and flooring. All the while the driver, Jim D., explained everything that was going to occur throughout the day in a very calming and professional manner which put Mom's mind at ease. The entire crew treated us very respectfully and treated her furniture and household goods as if they were their own. They completed the job in a timely fashion and left the house neat. Within 48 hours Elener called to update us on the drivers status and tentative delivery dates. As promised, the shipment arrives tomorrow! The driver has already touched base with both my Brother and me to finalize delivery times and answer and questions we may have for him! Kudos to the entire Interstate TEAM! I recommend them highly! It took some time for this to post... UPDATE... delivery was yesterday and went like clock work! I wanted to take a moment to convey my pleasure in working with Interstate Van Lines during my recent relocation. The office staff was very helpful and the on-site "Moving Team" could not have been more accommodating. Their professionalism, care with my property, thoroughness, and over all positive attitude made the move seamless and stress-free. As you know the destination location had four flights of stairs, yet never once was there a complaint. The team arrived early, took the time to introduce themselves, explain the activities that would occur then efficiently went about their tasks. Once all the property was loaded and all documentation completed, they completed the task by vacuuming the old place. Once the property was delivered and after they confirmed that everything met my satisfaction, they once again completed the task by vacuuming the new place! In my line of work I deal with so called "service" providers every day, seldom do these providers live up to their claims. I recently used Interstate in VA to move to Colorado, and absolutely everything went perfectly, so I decided they deserved kudos with a review that expressed my appreciation. I have never moved long distance before and didn't know where to start. I searched the internet and found that every company I looked at had a substantial number of less-than-perfect reviews, so I was prepared for the worst. I chose Interstate and my concerns proved to be unfounded. My experience was flawless in every way. It started with Mike doing a video-call walk-through of my home to determine the size and scope of my shipment. It was impressive how accurate his estimate turned out to be. Mike remained my contact until I officially chose to use Interstate. He was responsive, competent, and friendly throughout. I was then assigned to Sherri, a Move Coordinator. Sherri worked with me on the details and logistics related to the move and was responsible, professional, and friendly throughout the move. Lastly, my driver was more than I could have ever hoped for, and his crews on both ends of the move were great. Our recent move of 1800 miles to a new state, was our first non-military move after 26 years of relocations, so we're far from novices! From the minute I made the phone call to Interstate for an estimate, through the two months of storage while waiting for our house build completion, and finally to the delivery...the move was handled by total professionals every step of the process! We actually finished the packing process ahead of schedule, and it was a joy to not make a single damage claim! We loved the furniture being blanket-wrapped for storage, and packed into a trailer to be held in a climate-controlled warehouse. Best Moving Company. Period. Every step of the process from a cost estimate, scheduling, the physical pack of our belongings, and the big move day itself, was handled with the highest degree of professionalism and care. All of the staff at Interstate worked very hard to provide outstanding service to our household. I want to call out particular attention to the two staff who packed up the contents of our two bedroom condo. While we had a small space, we had LOTS of content. They meticulously wrapped and pack every single item. With only a few boxes left to unpack, not a single item...NOT A SINGLE ITEM, was broken or damaged. Every wine glass, every picture frame, every trinket, and memento made the move fully in tact. While we don't plan on moving for at least another decade or more, I would not hesitate to recommend Interstate to anyone and will certainly be my only call for our next move. read more

I've dealt with and spoke with several across the United States(and internationally) and the level of training and quality workflow that goes into their employees is incredible. They truly care about quality and not quantities. ISO certified. They even have an entire TRAINING HOUSE inside the warehouse for hands on training before entering into a customers home. The customer service staff go through extensive training for MONTHS before going into the floor. Webinars, on sight, team building, this way they KNOW what's occurring and can handle every caller with the best experience and knowledge possible. The companies they subcontract also get monitored for performance in the quality work flow. I was very skeptical to use Interstate based on negative online reviews but we ended up using them because they had our moving date available. From start to finish, they were extremely professional. The movers showed up early, worked extremely hard, carefully took apart the furniture and put everything back together where we instructed them to put it in the new house. I'd absolutely use them again. If you have specific concerns, speak with someone in their office prior to your move date and let them know. I told them of my reluctance to use them because of their reviews and they went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience. We had a terrific experience with Interstate! In an effort to stay within our budget we packed ourselves and they were willing to work with us on our schedule. We took full advantage of the recycled boxes and were thrilled to see the two trucks and 6 men arrive promptly the day of the move. The team were professional, focused and flexible throughout the day. We moved two storage units in addition to our house and wrapped up in one day. Interstate movers (located in Springfield, VA) were very friendly, careful and professional and made our big move to a new house as smooth as possible. They gave us a competitive estimate and stuck to it. We even asked them to come back and help move a few things from a storage unit to the new house and they again stuck to their estimate (the lower end of their estimate). The office staff was also very professional, responsive and helpful. The movers have a great deal of experience and were able to put complicated pieces of furniture together pretty easily. We used these movers to move our entire household. The men who actually moved our stuff were very good, fast and professional. But our move coordinator and sales staff are unresponsive and less than helpful. Very poor communication leading up to the move. And after the move we reached out to them twice to get a receipt emailed to us for the move (because we could not read the receipt that the movers gave to us and couldn't tell exactly what the final charges were) but never received a response back from the move coordinator. The movers arrived on time, were very careful loading our possessions, even overpacking to ensure items arrived in good condition. They delivered our items on the date and time agreed upon, unpacked them, and placed them where we wanted. All items arrived intact. The Interstate team made my move about as painless as moving gets. They showed up on time, got all of my stuff out of the house (and helped me pack the remaining items I hadn't gotten to) and into the truck.
