HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE…read more The only nice thing I can say about this place is that the lady on the phone taking reservations and collecting the money was personable, and the staff are doing their best with a bad situation. Everything else was subpar. I reserved three units in advance to store all of my belongings, and since it was highly rated on Google, I didn't think to go to visit. When I arrived with full moving trucks and crew of movers being paid by the hour, I was disappointed to find that SecureSpace was entirely unsuitable to store anything of value. First, it was blazing hot inside. There was no climate control, which made me very concerned about potential damage to electronics. More alarmingly, the single elevator took nearly 10 minutes to ascend three floors to my units (more than one group was trying to use it). Even if I had arrived when they first opened at 9AM, it would have been impossible for me to unload everything before their 6PM closing time, (which are pretty limited hours for a storage facility). I had to come up with an alternative quickly (see my review for Mini U Storage on Swann Ave) and cancel my leases with SecureStorage. Since I never occupied the units and the office staff explained I would see a refund in a few business days, I thought my business with them was over. However, three weeks later, I still hadn't received my money back. I had to go back down there in person, where the staff explained that they had other priorities with their facility, and they hadn't gotten around to their admin tasks yet. This is a wild, but understandable explanation given the condition of their facilities and how convoluted their systems are (it took me more than 10 minutes to sign one lease after going through their biometric signature process!!!). To their credit, they did process the refund after that visit. All said, I am grateful that I didn't end up storing anything there. Also, I think I've solved the mystery of the high Google ratings -- they seem to be under new management, but got to keep the ratings from the old owners and previous condition of the building. Hope this gives a more current idea of what you can expect if you ignore my warning and rent there anyway.

What was especially frustrating was that the price increased after I had already moved my belongings in. Overall, the experience was disappointing and I would recommend looking elsewhere for storage.

Used to be pretty great and now it's meh/good and very expensive. I'm going to break down the good…read moreand the bad and everything in between by categories. PRICING First got a unit here right towards the beginning of pandemic. Prices were very reasonable. I think we paid around $120-130 a month for our particular unit size. Having emptied our unit and closed our account last month, our bill for the same unit had gone up to around $330 a month. Absolutely ridiculous. No justification was ever given for the repeated price hikes but at this point the pricing is outrageous. If you threaten to leave you might get a temporary price break but honestly, the amount by which the price has more than doubled in four years is extreme. SERVICE When we first got our unit there if you had an issue and called their number you'd reach someone at the office and with their call ID system they immediately knew it was you calling. It was great. Now it's the phone tree from hell and nobody ever picks up the phone live. Leave enough messages and maybe someone will call you back eventually. Also, the hours posted online correspond to the facility, not the office, and the office doesn't really follow reliable hours. Went there in the middle of a Sunday, when it always used to be open, and there was nobody there. FACILITY I appreciate they seem to have taken measures to make it more secure. At one point during our tenure there they seem to have had a troubling situation with one employee, and some locks that were un-secured, but now it's pretty straight forward and you take your lock with you when you're done. I also like that it's moved from a simple code - which anyone could get - to a bluetooth via app based system that only works if you're logged into your account via the app. It might be a little slower to open gates but at least in theory it's harder for people without an account to gain access to the facility. There are plenty of carts to use for hauling stuff and the elevators and hallways are easy enough to navigate, though it may take you a visit or two to get your full bearings depending on where your unit is. Sometimes the parking situation inside gets iffy, but I was never not able to get done what I needed to. They also seem to be taking their climate control more seriously. When we first started there if you went in the summer you'd have a hard time understanding what exactly was climate controlled about the place because it was so hot and humid. Now the temperature seems very well regulated. I did find a very small amount of rodent droppings in my unit, but I assume that's standard in most storage places, and none of my items appeared damaged. OVERALL What holds me back from recommending this facility are the pricing and the seemingly inaccessible customer service. I can't justify the massive price increases and pairing that with an impossible to reach main office. If they were to address these things, the facility is otherwise fine for its purposes.

Free use of the truck is likely not a genuine offer. I went there on three different occasions in the last couple of weeks, as a new customer seeking to use their van for 90 minutes to move two large items, and each time visited on a weekday when I knew the trucks were unlikely to be in use. Each and every time the front desk put me off for a different reason--i.e., you have your driver license but you don't have the $100 "cash deposit" that's required, or you don't have the "account number" that was issued via email (despite my having government issued ID plus the key to the unit and their having computers at the desk), or it's "too late in the day" at 3 pm to use a van for 90 minutes. I went there again today, very hopeful that I had met every hurdle, and this time they told me there was a charge of $39.95 to use the van for the brief period I needed, plus gas (and whatever incidentals they may impose on top of that). The reason given this time was that 4 days had elapsed beyond my initial 30-day move-in period. I pointed out that I had visited on three different occasions in my initial move-in period, and noted that the deadline and all of these other hurdles to use of the van should have been disclosed upfront, as the deadline hadn't been disclosed earlier and seemed like a trap for the unwary. The man at the Shirlington desk blamed his colleague for being "new" and not knowing to tell me all the van requirements up front. He rarely looked me in the eye from his seated position at the desk, and, knowing that he almost certainly was the one who had trained his "new" colleague, I advised him that I'd rent a van from U-haul instead. He protested that Cubesmart offered a better deal on truck rentals. Floored by this response (after viewing the enormous ads posted everywhere around the facdility that promise use of a free truck), I told him that I'd be moving all of my items out of the Shirlington unit at the end of the month. Unfazed, he advised me that I'd better have moved everything out by my announced move-out date. Shirlington customer service reps need much better training, or CubeSmart needs to change its corporate policies.

We had a dedicated elevator, yet workers often brought items down only one or two at a time. I also saw team members on their phones or standing around in rooms and hallways instead of actively moving things. These delays added up quickly. The crew also misplaced parts of our bed frame, and the pieces had to be found before it could be reassembled. That alone added nearly an hour to the move. Because the move took much longer than expected, the final cost was significantly higher than the estimate we received. We were also charged based on an arrival time that was recorded as ten minutes earlier than when the crew actually arrived. The team was courteous, but given the inefficiency, added time, and higher final price, we would not use Bookstore Movers again. This is unfortunate, because we had been happy with them in previous moves.

I have never been so disrespected and just generally slimed as a paying customer to a service provider. I had a great experience in the first half of my process with CityStash when my things were collected for storage. They weren't the most professional team, they bumbled around and were rushing, apologizing for knocking things into walls but never stopped rushing. That said, they were good, kind people and I was happy to look past a little damage-free klutziness. When it came time to have my things delivered, the situation went south quickly. At the very end, I think possibly even after my delivery window, I got a call saying they were running late and hadn't even picked up my things from the warehouse to be delivered. I had been calling the main line for updates but didn't get a call back for hours, long after they would have known they wouldn't make it within the delivery window. Again, while it was annoying and could have been handled better, these things happen and I was willing to look past it. The delivery was finally made about 7pm and the movers again arrived flustered and rushed through the process, again banging into things and dinging walls. I assured them it was no big deal and not to worry, I understood sometimes life goes wrong. Once they had finished putting everything in the house, they let me know they had misplaced the specific hardware to reassemble a major piece of bedroom furniture - dresser with attachable mirror. I was told they would collect new screws from Home Depot and see me "first thing in the morning," calling me about an hour before they arrived. The next day I waited until 11 before I began calling, again waiting hours for a callback. This is when I began to get frustrated. When the owner finally called me back around 4pm, he said to me: "I don't know who told you that or why, but that was never going to happen." After exercising a healthy dose of patience and understanding through this, I had now taken not one but two unnecessary days off of work and a snarky remark from he business owner was the last thing I wanted to hear. Two full days later, the job was complete beginning on Tuesday and ending on Friday. The owner will likely be surprised by this review, though I'm not sure why. I clearly communicated my frustrations and he took little to no responsibility for the issues, blaming everything largely on the team he had sent in. When he wasn't blaming his team, he was all but shrugging his shoulders at me. While they certainly were part of the problem, my real grievance rests with him, who handled the situation with the grace and professionalism of a kindergartner in a boardroom. I was refunded $35 for the over half of a week of inconvenience, which perhaps was more insulting than no acknowledgement at all.

The concept is great but if they are going to carelessly break things then that is worse than them not moving anything at all.

Perhaps I interrupted her break? She seemed really irritated by the one question I asked in response to her asking me if I had any questions, rolling her eyes and mumbling under her breath openly throughout our entire interaction. In the middle of the process of me renting a storage space, she literally ran out of the store to yell at someone that she thought was about to park nearby. I thought about ducking out right then but honestly I was afraid she'd chase me down yelling too. Predictably, when the charges hit my card 2 days later it was a different price than I was quoted by Selam. I returned to the store with my contract and the paperwork printed and signed in that very location showing the discrepancy, only to be told by a large bearded kid behind the desk that he "was only a part-time employee" and that he "couldn't help me." Wild!
