Sadly I give it a 3. Food is very good. Wait staff is terrible. How long should it take to get a glass of wine? When you order a glass of wine after you get your food it's because you want to savor the food with the wine. But when it takes so long you tend to lose that excitement. I blame this on management. No sense of urgency. And to boot, we actually had two servers taking care of us. And neither could move fast enough. Again, terrible management. Good food. read more

a message to il massimo. this could have been a 5 star rating provided your chef or cook took the time to wash the greens before cooking, there is nothing more distasteful than getting a mouth full of dirty grit in your mouth because some insensitive clod neglected to thoroughly soak and rinse the greens probably 3 times to get it all out. this was a very brutish way to serve up a dish. i suggest you stop offering this item (escarole) on the menu unless it is done right. read more

I think 3 stars is a fair review for this place. I was looking for great Italian food without going into the city. There were great reviews for il Massimo so we gave it a shot. The service was pretty good and the outdoor area looked great. The inside of the restaurant was dark but very nice. The service was pretty good. They definitely don't rush you out. The calamari to start was overall good but a few chewy pieces that actually had to be spit into a napkin kind of ruined it in the end. The main courses were just okay. Typically at an Italian restaurant you get a huge plate of pasta- I thought the portions were a bit on the smaller side. The meatballs and sausage in my meal just weren't very good. Dry meatballs and the sausage had an odd taste. The sauce was decent but overall a very salty dish. My boyfriend got the veal chop parm and he really enjoyed the veal but there was not enough pasta to go with it. Overall this place was just good not great. read more

Went on a Sat night last night with 3 couples. Bad experience. First took a bit before server arrived for our drinks. We then ordered 4 appetizers and our main meals all at once. Two of us ordered the Bronzino. So 4 appetizers came out but one was wrong. We waited 10 min for the meatball to arrive, two of us ordered a second drink. After about 15 more minutes three main meals arrived...still no second drinks. The server said she would go get my wine so my wife also asked for a glass of wine for herself. The last 3 main meals came out over a 5 min and only my wine came. When we were all nearly done, the wine and other drinks came....we sent my wife's wine back. At one point I looked right at the server and she at me and I asked her to come over so I can ask about my wine....she nodded then turned away, coming over in 5 min...still no wine. Not once was anyone's water refilled even though we asked and not once did anyone ask how our meals were. The answer to the the meals is not good. Both Bronzino's were missing different side dishes. Others did not enjoy their meals. Only the Pork Chop and salmon were excellent. So between the terrible all around service (not just our server) and subpar food....we will not be going back. read more

I organized a surprise 50th, for a friend, and all 13 of us in the group were served our drinks and meals professionally and with no problem by our server, Rebecca. Such a lovely evening and the food was delicious! Everyone was a first timer to the restaurant and the consensus was that we would, each, go back! Thank you for a memorable night. read more

Came in for lunch and everything was delicious!!! Our bartender Destiny was welcoming and attentive and recommended a bunch of drinks that all tasted amazing! Will be back because of her! read more

Finally tried Il Massimo at Legacy Place for lunch. Totally underwhelmed. Ordered an antipasto type salad, waaaaay tooo much vinegar. Waitress never came back to check and when she took the dishes away I told her. She said, oh, I'll tell them to lighten up next time. If she'd come back sooner I could have sent it back! read more

Horrible service! if the service is poor then even good food tastes bad. I ordered chicken parm sub and the waiter brought chicken parm pasta. I informed the waiter about it and he didn't do nothing. So basically I was fed food that I didn't order. And my water glass was empty the whole time. read more

Each aspect of our meal was outstanding. The food was fresh and delicious. The waitstaff was knowledgeable and attentive. The atmosphere was warm and comfortable. I'm so glad to not have to battle the traffic and the throngs of the North End. read more

Ordered take out for a cold and dismal day. The chicken Marsala was positively outstanding along with the antipasto. A five star meal after a one star day! read more

Meh. Caesar salad was tasteless. Needed salt, lemon, garlic. Branzino was good. But sides were not. Lentils (which I hate but failed to notice when I had to change my order because they were out of my first choice) were salty. Cauliflower was cold. I told the waitress. She said well, at least you like the fish. She did not offer to bring a hot side dish over. I like my food piping hot. The food was lukewarm. I did not like the food enough to order dessert. Overpriced for what it is. I will not be back. read more

New Years evening. All was great, only problem was the Duck confit. Just be aware at the restaurant, it is two legs with thighs, not a breast which is common. Very dissatisfied. Drinks and wife's meal was fine, read more

Excellent waitress who is very familiar with the menu and the specials of the day. We had the shrimp risotto and the bolognese... both were perfect! read more

Overpriced. Also the whole restaurant was empty, but for some reason, the host sat us next to the one other full table in the room, that happened to have an annoying toddler that wouldn't stop talking and yelling/throwing things and dropping things through dinner. Maybe would have been fine if I was across the room, but for some reason we shared a booth with them. The bread was dry served with a chunky dip that was not very good. Drink (simple one - vodka soda with slash of cran) made poorly - warm and tasted watered down read more

Absolutely love it here! The food is amazing and the staff really have a great understanding of the menu. Oh! And their dessert is to die for. Carvel was such a doll and made our first experience there very enjoyable!! 100% recommend read more

Great food and great service. Makes you feel right at home. The carbonara is to die for. The bread is also really good so make sure not to fill up. read more

Just left the restaurant and can't wait to go back! The service was exquisite! From the moment we walked in- the hostess was very nice seating us 30 minutes before our reservation- to the waiter, Ivan- he was excellent the whole time- attentive, answer all of our questions and knew everything about the menu- even letting us know we picked some of his favorites on the menu- our meal was amazing! I tasted everyone's food- from the pork chops, the shrimp risotto, the fish special and of course mine which was the short rib gnocchi! Everything was so delicious! The manager (didn't get her name) came over and asked how our food was- and she was so nice and personable! Every moment of our experience was 5 star! Can not wait to go back! Thank you to everyone that made our first time so memorable! We will be back! read more

We two were in Legacy Place and thought check out Il Massimo for lunch. On sitting was provided bread and egg plant tomato sauce. bread was pathetic for the setting and the sauce didn't taste like any Italian food. For lunch my wife ordered Ravioli and I got spring salad with Salmon. What a mistake it was. Not much taste in the salad and half the salmon was gray. Dressed with a few strings of dry cheese and a few slices of pickled onion. And the bill was $38. Should have gone to Bertucci's. Could have had a satisfying meal and saves some bucks.fancy name and ok decor but food was third rate Italian. read more

BEWARE if you have a food allergy!!Was always a safe place and ate here for years with complete confidence. Something has changed in recent months and it appears the staff both from the front of the house to the back are not trained properly or just don't care. When meal arrived, I questioned that it was gluten free. This is a necessity for me because of celiac disease- not a preference. When I questioned the dish it was confirmed by 2 employees that it was truly gluten free-it was not. Spent the overnight violently ill. Contacted the manager next day who was lovely and said there was a kitchen "mix up" and someone would get back to me regarding my experience- that never happened. Didn't want the gift certificate that was offered for "my inconvenience", but rather a resolution on how this was going to be addressed so it didn't happen to someone else. A week later I placed a second call to the same manager who was surprised that no one had responded to me and assured me senior management would be contacting me- almost 3 weeks later, it has never happened.... Can only assume that diners with a food allergy/ restrictions are not a priority, which is pretty scary. read more

This has to be the best restaurant I have been to in a long time! Our family was greeted by a lovely young lady that was the hostess I believe her name was Jenn, although we had to wait to be seated because of the small wait she treated us like we were VIP and brought us to the best seat in the house. From there we had Nelly our server, he was so attentive and patient with all our special requests (allergies etc). We started off with the calamari in Padella then had our entrees. We had the frutti di mare, lobster ravioli, the veal and the filet. Compliments to kitchen even though we waited a little longer than would of liked but WELL worth the wait because my party and myself were thrilled with our dishes. Once we started eating the manager Laura came by and made sure everything was ok and we assured her how pleased we all were. Topping the night off we shared the tiramisu and some after drinks and coffee. Can not wait to go again! Thumbs up! read more

Being a fan of the Providence restaurant, I was pleasantly surprised to come across their new location in Dedham. I was with a few friends and we were very impressed with the new space as well as with the service and menu that replicate that of the Federal Hill flagship. I was able to share the tastes of home with my Boston friends and am excited to plan my next trip back for that Fra Diavolo. Thanks for the warm welcome il Massimo! xx read more

I was very disappointed. The meal took over an hour to come out and was cold. Everyone around us was mad too, the managers were frantically running around apologizing to every table and most of the tables were 2 spots that shouldn't take long to serve. The bar was slow, only one woman knew the drinks and how to run the register. I had to ask for my drink at the table multiple times and took over 20 minutes to get it. On the way out, the table next to us was consoling the server and saying to keep his head up and not quit. I won't be going back. read more

Loved the food and service. Our waitress, Dorothy, had an amazing sense of humor and gave great recommendations. We'd return just to exchange jokes with her again. For food highlights, the grilled octopus had just the right amount charring and the light red sauce with butter beans accompanying it was super herbaceous and flavorful. The side of roasted brussel sprouts had nice caramelization/browning on the outside, without being mushy/overcooked, and we loved the light honey glaze and pancetta, which added the right amount of sweetness and saltiness without overpowering anything. The complimentary focaccia was great too. read more

I went to this restaurant to have some drinks with a friend. Me and her stood up from the table to go to the bathroom and when we came back table was all cleaned up although it was super clear that we were not finished and just taking a bathroom break. The waiter and the manager thought we dine and dashed for some reason... I'm assuming because we were the only people of color at the restaurant. We called for the manager to see what he had to say for himself and he didn't even apologize and was rude. Horrible service! I do not recommend this place to anyone! read more

This place needs some work. Went on a Sunday night for quick date night and spent 20 minutes sitting outside with no server. No thanks. We left right away. read more

scallops are amazing, service was outstanding!

Went for dinner the other night service awful took about twenty minutes to be asked for drinks. The food itself was over cooked and vegetables either way too over cooked or undercooked my whole plate was burnt, definitely do not recommend. Once meal was finished was not asked much just given the check right away. Bad experience. My waitress "Megan" was rude and seemed very upset to be working. The drinks were awful no garnish whatsoever and were not measured watched the bartender freehand the whole drink. Second time going and will not be returning. While looking for the manager realized that he was having a dinner with his buddy's instead of checking on the well-being of his employees and customers. Go around to multiple reasturaunts a week possibly the worst experience I've ever had... read more

Had four different meals at our table last night. Everyone was overall satisfied. Two had red sauce dishes, one veal and one chicken. The sausage wasn't good- but the meatball was great. We ordered takeout which was charged to our credit card but the order was lost and after waiting for over 2 hours never arrived. No organization at all, no apologizes for poor service. So many people waiting hours for food that never arrived. We will not return here again. Very disappointing. read more

First time there with reservations for 7pm. We did not get seated until 7:20 and the waiting area to get seated was jam packed with other people waiting. Our waitress was Dorothy however our experience with her was not great. All she did was take our order. Never checked in to see if we needed anything or how everything was the whole time. However when our 90 min of being there was approaching she brought us our check. While we still had about 15 min and drinks in front of us she came back and asked in a rather rude way if we can give her a card to run. Me and my boyfriend were trying to enjoy a nice date night out but Dorothy made it unpleasant. HOWEVER, CJ who was the hostess seemed to be doing everyone's job for them and truly made us feel seen and welcomed. CJ answered our phone calls, sat us, took our drink order twice , served us our drinks both times, asked if we wanted a dessert menu, boxed our Togo's and was sweet enough to add a few more pieces of bread with our left overs. CJ DID IT ALL! That guys needs a raise because he saved our experience there from being a disaster to us walking out and being thankful he was there to pick up Dorothy's unpleasant actions. read more

My boyfriend and I were looking for somewhere to go to dinner as I just finished a cleanse and was going out to dinner and having a drink for the first time in a while. We made a reservation to be safe as we had try to go there one time before and it was so packed we couldn't find seats anywhere. It was on a Wednesday night so there was availability and there lucky for us there were seats at the bar. We typically enjoy sitting at the bar rather than sitting at a table. When we sat down Brody greeted us and was very upbeat, informative, and just over had great service. I had asked for a gluten free menu which he brought over right away and without me even asking he put in for some gluten free bread for me while we were reading the menus. He went over the specials with great detail and enthusiasm. We started off with the charred octopus (I forget the actual name of it) and then I got the Halibut special and my boyfriend ended up with the veal tenderloin since they ran out of the veal shank special. Everything was amazing. My dish didn't come with the gluten free pasta at first but he apologized and ran back to get it as soon as possible which was fine it wasn't his fault. We had the pleasure of getting to know him more and that he's normally in providence but works in Dedham on Wednesday's, and we had a fascinating conversation about amaro's and different types of drinks and you could just tell he was very passionate about his job which was so refreshing because coming from the hospitality industry it seems like it is hard to find that in a lot of restaurants these days. Needless to say we will definitely be back again on a Wednesday to see Brody and we will definitely be making a trip back to our college home town of Providence to see him there as well! read more

went for brunch today 10/6 - not very busy. Decided to try a lunch item, fettuccine alla bolognese - it was superb! Lots of meat, great fresh pasta...spectacular! Friend had lobster crepes and said they were full of lobster; also had a bloody mary for $5.00 - deal! All in all, excellent food and the waitress, Joanna D was attentive and friendly; even the mgr, Gray, was awesome...came over to make sure everything was good. All in all, would absolutely return. Had cannoli trio for desert, perfect; 3 small cannoli very fresh..just perfect amount of desert. Thumbs up from us! We will return. read more
