Basil catered my husband's birthday party and it was fantastic! My phone blew up with messages from guests complimenting the chef. The servers were wonderful, empty trays were quickly replenished and every item on the menu was perfect. I would highly recommend Tom and his staff for your party - could not be more pleased Thank you soooo much read more

Found Basil via an internet search, looking for a place close to Gillette Stadium. Arrived at 6:30 with a bar reservation, but I would have preferred a booth vs. a high top if I'd only known, but it was my first time. The menu is pretty extensive and there's something for everyone. The bread service is delicious (focaccia & rustic breads) and we started with the fried calamari. While it was a delicious "bang-bang" style, I prefer a more traditional Italian mix of rings and whole bodies, which this didn't have. My duck entree was amazing and the fresh veggies were perfect. Some of the best real mashed potatoes I've ever had are served here. The Caesar salad was okay--perhaps fresh anchovies would be better suited vs the tinned ones. The brownie sundae was huge and decadent. I loved it. My bf would have liked the brownie to be warm (a la molten lava cake). The restaurant decor is clean and modern but it reminded me a little of an OG Chinese restaurant, complete with fish tanks. Very intimate if you're seated in a booth. Our server was attentive and friendly--nicely chatty. read more

As first-time guests at Basil, we were impressed from the outset; the hostess attended to my 93-year-old mum and me with efficiency and professionalism. Our server, Jon, recommended the double espresso martini, which was well chilled, rich and creamy-- I would've ordered another but had to do the driving. I selected the swordfish, which was moist and served hot, and OMGoodness, that rosemary bread! It's outstanding, The side salad was a healthy, creative mix of fresh greens w/ crunchy cukes and carrots combined with cranberries and goat cheese - great taste and texture! The service remained impressive throughout our visit. I found the decor to be equally pleasing: classy but simple and welcoming, complemented with the perfect amount of warm lighting. My only regret was not saving room for dessert, We will certainly return! read more

This hidden gem tucked away in Medfield is a favorite of my in laws, so I had high expectations for my first visit, and it 100% lived up to the hype!! Think homemade pastas, stellar service, and a large menu of traditional Italian favorites all wrapped up in a cozy neighborhood atmosphere. We stopped by for the first seating of the evening on a Saturday with a large group. There was something for everything on the craft cocktail and wine menus. Our table sampled quite a few different martinis, and it was a nice surprise that even some of the fruitier options were well balanced and not tooooo sweet. (The pear and cucumber martinis were some of our favorites). They had a ton of specials for the night in addition to the regular menu, which made picking just a few appetizers and one entree each a challenge for most of us. Even the complimentary bread basket here deserves a shoutout: the housemade cornbread and focaccia were both 10/10. A few of the favorites from our table's selections were the escargot and calamari appetizers, both the eggplant and chicken parms, and the lobster and shrimp ravioli. Lobster ravioli is one of my favorite dishes of all time, and it's all over the greater Boston area. I have to say Basil's rivals any I've had before---the lobster cream sauce is to die for, I haven't stopped thinking about it since!! Our waitress was so kind and accommodating to our groups' many questions and substitutions. Overall it was an easy 5-star experience, can't wait to come back! read more

We got there earlier to avoid the rush, which we recommend or call and make a reservation. I'm so sad I just found this place, but excited to go back and try a new dish because everything looked so good!! We got the swordfish special and chicken broccoli ziti... both fresh and delicious and would get again! read more

The absolute best Italian restaurant in MetroWest Boston. It's our only choice when it comes to great take out, which we prefer over dining in. Don't tell too many people, as it is our little slice of heaven in the Medfield area. read more

Family-owned and careful attention to preparation. Bit heavy on Italian cuisine. Wish they could bring back the weekend offering of RoastBeef but otherwise you cannot go wrong with the 1/2ducking - superb and ask for it to be crisp exterior. Also, as much as others also serve this but the eggplant parmigiana is excellent. Try out the Bar in the back -more fun! read more

Food was good. Service was young and tried hard but seems to be intentionally casual. Parking on a busy weekend can be difficult

This is a wonderful place. They do a really good job. The food is quite good. I haven't had anything there. I have not liked it yet. And the fact that it's in an old funeral home makes it extra creepy and fun. read more

I would give this restaurant 10 stars !! We ate there June 12, 2026. The food was amazing, the service was incredible and the restaurant is cute and cozy. The kitchen is very accommodating with food allergies. I cannot say enough good things about Basil. My sister and I had thesmall entrees of Pan Seared Scallops that were out of this world. My sister's other half had the Pork Chop special which he raved about all through the meal and had to take half home as it was a huge pork chop. read more

Nice place Food was good Make sure you don't get stuck upstairs No atmosphere at all... Looked at a bathroom door and kitchen door all night!!!!! What a way to ruin a lovely evening with my family! Only getting two stars because of that read more

This place is a throw back in a very bizarre location that has no business being as good as it is. There were 5 of us and we all got different things and it was all delicious. Standouts: bacon wrapped scallops, the shrimp piccata, spaghetti Fra diavlo, and the pasta with meat sauce. Service was excellent. Only negative was the acoustics are rough - it's very loud. But do you need to hear your companions if you're focused on eating delicious pasta? read more

Food is always very good. Nice selection as well. The bar area can be very noisy but is a fun atmosphere.

Food is as good as you can expect from a top notch place like this. However the reception I got when I went I eat at 5pm (when they open) was icy at best. The receptionist didn't even greet us and just said, I hope that stroller is collapsible. Which it obviously is (ate at Michelin star restaurants with my kids). Then as we were being seated my son was being a little loud since he was hungry and the table next to us immediately said loudly they wanted to cancel their orders. The hostess then immediately jumped up and moved them. Sorry for the 1 minute before we sat down (he was fine the rest of the dinner). The meal was good but I usual get take out because if the kids. Decided to go and enjoy the restaurant and felt like I was committing a crime. Great food but I wouldn't recommend if you have kids. read more

I am a bit mixed on this place and could not believe I have lived in the area and never known about the place or even seen it. This spot is tucked away in downtown Medfield and you would never even know its there since its off the main street, tucked in a neighborhood behind the village shops. First off, this place is set up inside a house which is both good and bad, parking for this place (I would hate to be the neighbors) is tough and if you cant find a spot in the large lot across from the place, you are stuck almost parking on some neighbors lawn or blocking their driveway which we did. This place is not short on business, Saturday night their was a line out the door and unless you have a reservation, you are not getting into the place. The set up inside is tight, very odd, small booth areas in what looks like it used to be a living room, small tight cramped hostess station, bar in the back you have to seek out since its near kitchen and then an upstairs which has long banquet tables which was again, odd, but it worked. The menu here is a very large book, loaded with old school Italian dishes and speciality cocktails and an extensive wine list. The staff here is very good, friendly and fast and they keep up with the busy tables. The place is pretty loud inside and since its tight quarters its even louder. The food in this place is absolutely great, cooked to perfection, very tasty dishes, the veal parm was excellent and so was the calamari and the drinks are good as well. I was shocked, since I have not had anything close to North End Italian in the suburbs at all except maybe Sweet Basil in Needham. This place is great, aside from the odd set up inside and the parking, the prices were what you would expect and the portions are mid to large so you get plenty of food. What a treat and I was happily surprised to find a good restaurant outside Boston proper. Definitely will visit here again and may try take out as well. read more

Very nice place. Service is great once you get in the door to the bartenders who go above and beyond to make you happy. The drinks a super reasonably priced and topped off unlike most of the short pause you get lately. All of the dinners were great and I would definitely go back again. read more

Had an amazing dinner with superb service this past Friday night. The ravioli app was wonderful, the meat sauce was great, and our server Beth was the best. This is a cozy find tucked away in a residential area of Medfield. We have eaten there twice. The food is excellent and the menu is varied and interesting. Most recently, I had the duck, which was cooked perfectly, and my husband had the swordfish, which was also very good. However, the service left much to be desired. First, it was slow, but that seems to be more common than not these days in most restaurants. Second, our waiter would often forget us. We asked for water refills three times and when he finally did it, he only filled one glass (we were a party of four). We had to ask twice for a dessert menu. read more

Four different dishes ordered. Ravioli special was tasty but not hot when delivered to the table, scallop dish with risotto- risotto dry and scallops overcooked. Seafood medley and Lasagna were respectable. Key lime pie was a favorite. Extremely busy restaurant and if we weren't there when they opened some of these things could have been overlooked. Worth a second try if I am in the area. read more

I wanted to give 1 star because the hostess was the rudest person I have ever come across in a food service industry. But I could not because the food and the service was impeccable. Our waitress Jordan could not have been better; she was funny, helpful and just super attentive. The food was phenomenal; every one at our table ordered something different and all 6 of us could not have been happier. Appetizers were great, dessert was great; definitely recommend this restaurant. Just bear in mind the hostess is rude and tries to chase you out. She even called me two hours before my reservation and was trying to get me to cancel due to overbooking, when I didn't she said " I hope everyone in your party can go up stairs because that's the only way you can come". RUDE. Then she came to our table while we were eating dessert and coffee and told us to hurry up. She needs to be reminded that the delivery of your request can change the outcome tremendously The owners should talk to hostess or better yet have her doing dishes; she should not be representing at the front desk. read more

My girlfriend and I were recommended by friends to Basil. Being a chef myself I am very analytical, and critical when it comes to dining out. My school of thought is "I can prepare it better!". Boy was I wrong! the food was outstanding. I had the chicken marsala and my girlfriend had the chicken francaise. both were delicious! We ate at the bar and Christine the bar manager was friendly, informative, and poured a great drink! We are definitely coming back, and teling our friends about this wonderful place Jay P read more

I recently hosted a baby sprinkle celebration at Basils and could not have asked for a better space, food, and service. Tommy was very accommodating and easy to work with on the planning, and Beth provided amazing service the day of. What a delicious surprise! We were headed to another restaurant in Medfield that was closed tonight. Found Basil on Yelp and gave it a try. It is in a residential neighborhood. It looks like the location used to be a house. It is warm and cozy inside. Dark colors and a fireplace full of candles. Lots of booths. We tried Caesar salad, chicken parmigiana, penne vodka, and chicken, broccoli ziti in a lemon wine sauce. Everything was so good. Loved the breads too! We can't wait to go back. read more
