Had a delightful dinner last night. We were a party of 6 celebrating a birthday and the waitress (sorry didn't catch her name )was the best. We were first greeted by Linda the hostess who was also very nice. We all said our dinners were delicious, I had the ravioli special with the grilled chicken and oh so yummy ! Had dinner last night as a family at Basil for the first time since the pandemic. We sat on the pub side. I ordered the baked salmon special - topped with lobster meat and accompanied with a side of rice, perfectly steamed fresh green beans and butternut squash. It was delicious. My daughter had the clam chowder she had been craving since moving out West, along with rigatoni, chicken and broccoli. She enjoyed both. Only my husband , who ordered a hamburger, was disappointed. He ordered it medium rare and received a tasteless well done $16 burger. He is still commenting, 24 hours later, that 5 Guys makes a better burger than the overpriced, overcooked one he got last night. read more

We like the food at Basil, I've only ever sat in the bar area and gotten dinner and drinks but I assume the menu is the same at the restaurant side. Can get very crowded especially drawing early dinner time so plan accordingly. read more

Upscale Restaurant with Great Food This is one of the most popular upscale restaurants in the Medfield area, and the food is very good. In addition to their regular menu selections, we enjoyed the specials, ravioli with scallops and a stuffed haddock fillet. They have a good wine list and professional wait staff. Reluctantly returned and was very pleasantly surprised with the food. Everything we had was delicious. Marsala, Piccata were outstanding and the special calamari is so good! Service was ok and we waited 45+ minutes despite having a reservation which was extremely frustrating. All in all happy to see the quality had returned. My wife and I celebrated her birthday here recently. The food was so uncommonly spot on - start to finish. French onion soup, escargot, shrimp cocktail, swordfish, a seafood and pasta dish whose name I don't remember, and a dessert they called "profiteroles". I would like to give Basil's 5 stars because the food is terrific and consistently excellent. I ordered shrimp scampi and because everything is made to order, I asked for not too much garlic. When it arrived, it was loaded with garlic. I had my friends taste it to double check and they agreed. The waitress was fantastic and had it remade for me. When it came back to the table it was awesome. That's not my reason for the 4 star rating. When I make a reservation, I can sometimes expect to wait 5-10 minutes on a Saturday night for my table. This was not a Saturday night, we waited 25 minutes, it was very, very loud and there was no place to sit and wait! It just starts the evening off on the wrong foot. First and likely last time. Our dinner started off great with a delicious and perfectly cooked calamari appetizer. We both ordered the fillet of haddock with lobster stuffing. While waiting, apparently the restuarant forgot we are in the middle of a pandemic as they seated people at every open table and proceeded to even allow one couple that just walked in to double up with another couple at the table next to us. I was shocked to say the least. Then our dish arrived only to find a piece of plastic in the stuffing. The service was slow and waited at least 15 mins before we were able to inform the waitress of the issue. I cannot say enough about this restaurant. Whether you are looking for a more intimate setting or looking for a friendly experience in the bar area, you will not be disappointed. The food is exceptional, and I find they will accommodate changes and special requests. I also have used them to cater. I had a reception after mom's funeral, I left the door open for them, and when we returned, all was set up and ready for us. I could not say enough. I got takeout from Basils last week and it was disappointing. We got 3 meals, mine I will say (steak tips & french fries) was prepared properly and was tasty. My fathers however was 0 for 2. He got the clams casino which was very much overcooked. His main course was supposed to be pan seared scallops but they were breaded and fried scallops when we opened it up at home. They were also overcooked. Have had good meals from Basils in the past but this was disappointing to say the least. read more

As I have posted in the past Basil is, in my opinion, the best restaurant in Medfield. The service has always been top notch and pleasant. The place gets packed now and although the staff is running in many different directions at any given time I have never felt ignored or not appreciated. I saw a review from Sea yesterday and based on my experience it doesn't even sound like Basil. The food is always awesome and plentiful. Tommy and Karen, the owners, take customer service and food quality very seriously. As I said before this place can be packed and is most nights which should tell you something about the quality and dining experience. I would say the number of four and five star reviews is a very good way to judge Basil. While the food was fantastic and tasty and the atmosphere is very cozy, we were left with a bitter taste in our mouths when the hostess came over and reprimanded our server in front of us. We were confused as to what the issue was as we felt our server was just exquisite as the food. Coming from a place of business myself, I found this very inappropriate and was appalled that someone would speak to another colleague like this in front of customers. This is a revised version of a previous review. First dine in experience at Basils was not a good one. I've always said the food is spectacular but on that day service was horrendous. After my review the owner reached out to me and offered an apology and did the kindest thing to bring us back as a returning client. It's people like that, that go out of their way to correct a situation. That's what any customer wants. Ordered a catering meal 24 hours before my requested pick-up. Spoke to a women who was very pleasant as I also had dietary restrictions (GF), at NO time was I informed the prices had changed and gone up. After picking up my meal, I called and asked after seeing a difference in price (also checked the web site menu). Was given the lame excuse that due to Covid, they couldn't update the web prices on their menus. Hmmm last time I checked most of this stuff is done online. I guess when speaking to customers via telephone Covid paralyzed your ability to speak. The food was very well prepared. Changing to 4 after speaking with owner. I wanted so badly to like Basil. So many folks in town raved about it. But after three separate dining experiences here, I'm completely underwhelmed. Our first experience we had a lovely server, she was the highlight of our visit. I had chicken saltimbocca, which was dry and bland and served on a bed of over cooked past, which is quite possibly one of my biggest pet peeves when enjoying Italian food. Our second visit, service was very slow even though the restaurant was not full. Service was ok. This time I chose lobster ravioli. It was fine, but I've definitely had better. Sadly it came to the table barely warm, but after waiting so long I didn't have time to wait for it to be reheated. Our third and final visit was the last try. We were there with my husband's parents for a celebration. After waiting over an hour for appetizers, I was losing my patients. We had asked to speak with the manager, who seemed annoyed that we were wondering where our food was after waiting an hour. Our dinner finally came and I just ordered chicken parm thinking you cannot screw that up. I was wrong. I had to ask for a steak knife the chicken was so tough and dry. It had zero flavor. I had a few bites and gave up. Service was poor, although in our server's defense, he was running around like a crazy man. Drinks went unfilled, no one checked to see if we needed anything, had to hunt someone down for extra silverware. My NYC native in laws were not impressed. We had dinner here recently. Our server was excellent. With holiday lights, it's a very pretty establishment. We had the benefit of being upstairs, and for the most part, alone, which was nice! Our server was perfect and that says a lot when he had to run up and down with each request! Our food was good. Our table had a mix of Italian dishes both with and without red sauce, as well as steak and prime rib. All were good. My French onion soup was very very good! The sauce on my chicken Parm did not stand out as amazing, it was fine. Everything was good but on the plain side. The rest of our party felt the same. It was all good. Just not delicious, amazing, or incredible. Service was somewhat lacking: having to ask for bread, ask to order an appetizer, ask to hear the specials. No personal service whatsoever. Food was extremely lacking. Calamari with only "squido" rings? At a fine establishment? Seafood casserole with some type of orange topping and loaded with a greasy sauce? A twice baked potato with lumps?
