Went by on Saturday early afternoon, perfect timing for me as I beat the crowd. I had heard a positive review from a friend so it was on my list of "must try". I'm a suburbonite so I like it when I can go to a restaurant that has a Boston feel to it but I don't have to drive into town for the ambiance. I like the look and feel of this place, very comfortable and polished. We were greeted almost immediately by a waitress with a warm smile and the options to sit in the dining room or lounge. I like a good high top so opted forthe lounge. The young lady tending the bar came over shortly after we were seated and took a drink order, prompt service check. When she returned with our drinks she offered some suggestions and took our order, bonus points for menu knowledge. I ordered the calamari for an app to split, declicious, not just little tasteless rings but some bodies and wonderfully seasoned. For my meal I had the Seafood Fra Diavalo (choice mild, medium or hot) over spaghetti, my lunch date had the Chicken Parm with zitti. I loved my dish, the pasta cooked perfectly, generous portion of seafood (scallops, shrimp, clams, muslces) the marinara was seasoned wonderfully not too spicey as I requested and a dish a grated parm on the side to add as I like. I know with all the glowing things i've had to say why the 4, well my lunch date said her Chicken parm was good but not great, she said the chicken could have been a bit crispier and a bit more flavor in the marinara, I tried it and I liked it and would order it for myself. A taste of the North End in Metrowest! We were excited to try this place as authentic Italian can be hard to find outside of the city. Shocked this review isn't higher It's likely closer to a 4.5...but not even close to the 3's. You're not in the north end. If you're expecting that vibe, this won't be it. It's absolutely the suburb version, however, the food is incredible. The pollo Venezia is superb. Tons of flavor, chicken cooked perfectly, great portion size. Our waiter Jason was outstanding--attentive without ever being intrusive and truly committed to great service. His personality was a breath of fresh air. The food was excellent. I originally made a reservation for the outdoor area at Mother Anna's because it's a really cute spot and there are plenty of tables. Unfortunately, it was raining on the night that I went, so we had to sit inside. The indoor area is fine, but nothing particularly interesting. The outdoor vibes are superior, hands down. The service was really fast, maybe even a bit too fast. Once we slowed down on eating our pasta, the waiter came around and asked if we wanted to pack it up, so we really didn't end up staying for long. As for the food, the portions are massive. We got the Gnocchi and the Linguine with Meatballs, both of which were delicious. The Gnocchi didn't feel too heavy and had a nice creamy sauce. The Linguine with Meatballs also hit the spot. I will say that the dishes were a bit salty, which was something I read on other reviews. Overall, great food for the price! read more

I'm really only knocking this down to three stars because there's really no entrance to waiting when you have reservations. That being said it is super busy on a Saturday night even with reservations. They stood there. Looking like a fish out of water until somebody happened to notice us obviously waiting for our reservation. We got seated at a table near the entrance in the kitchen. Call in my eyes for the fact that we had reservations, and other people were walking out the street, but whatever. It was good. Funny that it's an Italian restaurant, and yet I didn't see one Italian person there with an accent. Everybody's accent was definitely not Italian. Boykin they cook. A paragraph I have a chicken Parmesan. Are usually always have chicken Parmesan at a local Boston Italian just to compare. He had a chicken saltimbocca. I have to be honest. It was mostly mushrooms. I am writing this review because I had received a very generous gift certificate to the Mother Anna's in Medfield this past Christmas-2025. However, the restaurant closed unexpectedly, and permanently. They have left no way to correspond with the owners. They took down their website, and contact information. The Pembroke location told me that they are separately owned, and they can't honor the Medfield location's gift certificate. This is so disappointing, and a horrible way to do business. I order lobster fettuccine and was disappointed in the sauce was congealed and the lobster was not fresh. My other friend tried scallops shrimp risotto. We had a large party of 12, not many restaurants in the north end can accommodate a party of this size but fortunately mother Anna's came to the rescue with the reservation. During the summer they have a very large patio area but as we turn the calendar to the New England fall/winter season the patio is no longer an option and must dine in the cozy indoor dining, standard for the north end. If you are looking to find a seat at the bar and dine in, please continue on in your search and good luck. The restaurant is very easy to find as it is the first restaurant as you make your way to Hanover Street. The cocktails I had were watered down and should've switched to wine as most of my table switched to wine. For the food, the appetizers were ok. The shrimp scampi was drowning in oil and heavy handed with the salt. The calamari were simply fried, but done well. They weren't overly greasy or salty, a very traditional fried calamari. I got the seafood fried diavlo and got it extra spicy. It had a good kick but I wasn't praying to the spice gods for a reprieve which was good. I think their spicy would be a mild (on my scale). It was packed with seafood. I deshell everything before I dig in and I felt like I had a solid lb to 1.5 lbs of seafood to deshell. The seafood was fresh and perfectly cooked over a generous bed of linguine. I managed to finish my entrée but the portion sizes are on par with value north end restaurants. Semi classy Italian restaurant. It's like they are trying a little too hard to be fancy but it just wasn't. The inside smelled like farts and it was crowded and hot. The bathroom was too small and very dirty... especially after I was done with it. The dinner table was about a millimeter too tall, or maybe my chair was a millimeter too short, idk. The menu had a ton of typos like the person who wrote it was still in level 1 English class. Also, the table right in front of us was duct taped together... so don't sit at that table. The food was tasty except when I ordered chicken parm, it came in a ocean of sauce and it was hard for me to find my chicken. The reason for my 4 star review of this place was wasn't from the food and definitely not from the ambiance but from my darling waitress! I love love love mother Ana's in the north end! I mean how can you not! Whether you are sitting outside on their beautiful outdoor patio overlooking the entrance to the North End or inside with the mirrors surrounding you, you've come to the right place. I came here with a large group last time (about 12 of us) and the service was amazing. The server came quickly, and was able to grab all our drink and food orders without any struggle. I ordered the cheese ravioli and omg is it amazing! all of their pasta is homemade and you can tell the difference. The sauce was fresh and sweet, the cheese was a ricotta filling (my personal fav). I would recommend getting the pitchers of sangria - we got Atleast 4/6 drinks out of it and it was worth the money. read more

We had a delightful lunch at Mother Anna's in Medfield today. We had a larger group, and we ordered a variety of dishes, and everybody was impressed with how delicious everything was. The sauce tastes like your Italian Nonna's sauce. Authentic North End Italian in Medfield. We highly recommend the chicken marsala, fresh pasta dishes--ravioli, manicotti, fettuccine alfredo--the eggplant parmesan. The server was friendly and very attentive. Great experience & food at Mother Anna's. Our waiter was impeccable, personable & engaging. The food was delicious just like eating in the North End without the hassle of paying for parking. Portions were a good size even having leftovers. We started with the calamari appetizer which was fantastic. I had Eggplant parm and my husband had a Chicken Special. Both were awesome! Prices were fairly reasonable. The only thing I would suggest is the ambiance left a little to be desired. I am hoping they get better as they get used to being open. We walked in without a reservation for lunch, and were promptly seated. Interior looked clean though a bit plain. I did notice that they left empty candleholders out on the tables, and ours appeared to have some sauce on it from dinner the night prior- off putting. Our server was very friendly though a bit slow. We started off with the mushrooms, which were very good, and then chicken Parm and lobster ravioli. Food was decent, sauce was good, but overall tasted pretty bland. Not an attractive presentation to the dishes. Our server did not check in after dropping our food to see if everything was OK, and we had to flag her over to get a refill on drinks. I loved my 2 visits to Mother Anna's. The first time was at a high top in the bar section and last at the bar. Both times the lighting was atrocious. Spot lights on the ceiling, the kind you use to illuminate your house at Christmas, full blast. Management needs to fix this fast. Get some pendant lights to use at the bar and keep the spotlights for when the cleaning crew come in. It's just not a comfortable dining experience like this. The food was amazing, thus the 5 stars. The portobello mushroom app was awesome, as were the mussels. We split a Chicken Parm, again delicious. Our bartender was super personable and made the best Lemondrop martini I've ever had. We need this restaurant to succeed in Medfield, few options besides Basils. Judging by the packed dining room word is out we have a winner! Now lower the lights please. read more

Popped in on a Saturday afternoon for lunch on the recommendation of some friends. It was pretty dead when we arrived but within an hour got a bit more popular. We sat at the bar and were helped by Joe, a friendly and personable bartender who made us some tasty mixed cocktails and kept the beer glass full. We started with the garlic bread (yum!) followed by house salads, the baked ziti, the lasagna, and the sausage. The baked ziti was perfect, excellent ricotta mix and good marinara. The lasagna was decent, but I'd skip it next time. We ended with several espresso martinis which were premade but still really great. The restaurant was cozy with a well sized bar and a dining room to the side. It was well lit and clean. We saw the owners and other staff interacting with several customers and found them all polite and personable. We look forward to returning to try out more local Italian food. read more

We were a party of 12 on 12/26. Those that ordered ravioli, chicken parm, lasagna, spaghetti and meat balls was covered with so much red sause that you couldn't see your meal. One of us had to send back her chicken/eggplant parm becauses the chic was so hard and the eggplant tasted rancid. My spaghetti with little necks was tasteless. Service was good and ambiance was average. There is no comparison to Basil's here in Medfield. Basil is worthy of 5 star, not Mother Anna's. Big disappointment won't go back again! read more

My husband and I stopped in Sunday night for dinner. Very disappointed!. I had the Chicken Marsala. The meal contained mostly mushrooms, small portion of chicken and was drowning in sauce. My husband had the "special" which was swordfish. this consisted of broccoli and a very small portion of fish. this also was drowning in a lemon ? butter sauce. Unable to eat it. When waitress asked how we liked it we told her we couldn't eat it. She informed us that's the way they make it and offered a new meal. It was actually perfect because we were able to have our in space in an already small restaurant. I was nervous at first because I thought our server would forget about the group but she was very attentive and gave great suggestions. Between the 8 of us we shared 3 bottles of wine, 3 appetizers (stuffed mushrooms, calamari, & mozzarella with roasted red peppers), and we each got an entree. The total for each with 20% tip was $55. The good and the bad. Went on. Friday night with friends, the waiter was talkative and fun, told one of my friends, who can't eat gluten, he'll get her a salad instead. No salad, no pastas for the rest of the table. Did not come back to check in, No acknowledgement we were missing pastas and the salad. The food was delicious though. So I figure they have some kinks to work out. Went tonight and sat in lounge. Waiter forgot side pastas, we were halfway through our meal before he came back to check in. We mentioned the missing pastas, he said he'd go get them, Nothing. He walked by and I flagged him, I asked for the check. He never mentioned the missing pastas. Our waiter was hustling tonight. He had tables in the lounge and the dining room and no help. Meanwhile there are 3 bus boys, 3 hostesses (all three up front when we got there), and what I'm assuming a manager and assistant manager (?). If I was the manager at a new restaurant, I would visit every table, deliver food and drinks if my staff needed the help. Busboys can help deliver food. If you're going to offer meals that are served on more than 1 plate, the server should have another runner helping, so they don't have to make multiple trips. I hope they can figure it out, the food is tasty. read more
