A solid option. The food is consistently quite good. The only reason I can't really give 5 stars is that IL Massimo is quite expensive for Italian. I think if you need a nice family dinner for a special occasion, this is a very safe option. It's price point prevents me from recommending it for routine dining. read more

We've been to Il Massimo dozens of times - the food, service, and ambiance are usually terrific. We went last night (July 1) - the place wasn't crowded (it's a holiday weekend), so it was surprising that we had a number of issues with our order. The service itself was outstanding (Lily is a real pro). The food, however, was very disappointing. The gluten free rolls were frozen in the middle when they were served. We ordered salads with grilled chicken - when it came out, the chicken was visibly undercooked (someone sliced it, so anyone paying attention would have seen how pink it was). We sent it back. But, they didn't remake the salads; they took the undercooked chicken off the salad, cooked it more, and put it back on the salad. They re-served us salad that had undercooked chicken sitting on it. That is unacceptable. We sent it back again. The manager made a big deal about not charging us for the salads - we sent them back, so not charging us was a given. The rest of the meal was fair - but not as good as it usually is. I was surprised that they didn't comp the meal, given the issues we had. The best part of dinner was the service (none of this was Lily's fault), but the food was fair (at best), and the overall experience was disappointing. Il Massimo needs to up its game and keep things consistent. Last night, it fell far short of expectations. read more

I was so disappointed with this place. My family and I went to the one in Providence a few months ago and it was great. But this one was terrible!! My husband and I sat at the bar. The chairs were uneven and I had to lock my legs around the legs to keep it from spinning. Really annoying! We order an expresso martini and a Hendrix and soda. The martini was not good at all, way too sweet and the tonic they used was bad quality and ruined the drink. We order the muscles and they were only ok. We had planned to eat dinner there, but after the poor service and the terrible drinks we left and went some where else. So disappointing!!! read more

We went here for the first time for a birthday celebration. Wow, fantastic food and outstanding service. Ambiance is energetic and modern although lights could be turned up a notch to see the menu, food, and other diners. We are still dreaming of our octopus appetizer, cocktails, and entrees (salmon and scallops. Delizioso! read more

I used to love this place! Took about 12 of my coworkers for lunch here when it first opened and had a great experience. The food was delicious and interior of the restaurant is very nice. Staff was friendly as well. I had the scallops and Cacio Pepe risotto which was delicious. I think they got rid of this dish sadly though. However, I recently ordered a seafood dish on Grubhub and when I received the order I had to throw it out after a few bites. The seafood was not cooked properly or was old. It was awful and I felt myself feeling sick and nauseous later. Very disappointed as I used to love this place and wasted $35 on this order. read more

The scallops dish is amazing. The shrimp dish was okay. The shrimp were a bit tough. I substituted risotto for linguini. They didn't add sauce or flavor. It was disappointing. The atmosphere was nice. The service started off very slow and improved over the course of dinner. I'm not sure that I would return. read more

I brought the whole family out to celebrate my Dad's 69th Birthday. Hannah was fantastic with service. She really made our family feel welcome. The food was good although my wife's carbonara lacked flavor. Overall it was a great experience and I would go again. read more

We had a wonderful dinner tonight with 9 of my family members!! Deana our sever as excellent! She was very attentive and helpful when it came to food and wine suggestions. We shared the cannoli trio and a tiramisu for dessert which was delicious. This will be our go to meeting spot from now on! Can't wait to go back. read more

Went back here after multiple great experiences for a not so great one. Very mediocre server. My dinner tasted very bitter and I mentioned it to her and she said yea, to be expected - not the best response. My martini was also very sub-par. Dunno what happened but just annoyed with the meal I had there read more

best eggplant ever, half price at happy hour. best gorgonzola olive martinis ever. one of the best at legacy place

I love the short rib gnocchi! They also have a great bread basket (I'm a carb junkie). The only thing that I don't like about this place is the location. Legacy Place is always a $h!+ show for parking. But, if you go into it mentally prepared to drive around for a while to find a spot or to get your steps in, then it's definitely worth it. Oh...and sadly there are no delivery options for this restaurant which is unusual these days. read more

My friend and I have dined here a few times together and we have had Bronson as our server and he is fabulous. So helpful with menu as well as wine suggestions and he even helped me find a vegan menu item. Highly recommend! read more

I've been twice and would recommend to anyone! First time we sat outside in Summer. It's a smallish outdoor space but welcoming. My foodie friend and I were impressed with the food quality. Came back a second time tonight in winter and indoors is cozy with a cool, dark, intimate vibe. Our server was super duper nice, fast, and friendly. Attentive but not overbearing. The food was as good as I remember. We got 3 apps and split a main. Burrata, fried calamari, and octopus - yum! Short rib gnocchi is as good as it sounds! We didn't order it, but they were doing a feast of the 7 fishes pre fix holiday meal, which reminds me of Xmas growing up - love that! read more

Went for pri-fixe lunch. Food was nice. Very nice atmosphere, but a bit dark inside. Food came efficiently.

I've had the carbonara and lobster ravioli. Both amazing! Great atmosphere, excellent service, delicious food.

Celebrated a family birthday with takeout and were not disappointed! Focaccia, mixed salad, fettuccine bolognese, pork chops, and chicken piccata were all perfection! Only trouble spot was finding parking to pick up our phoned-in order. read more

It's eatable! I loved the bendalacreeme... it tasted like a big juicy steak from big johns steakhouse up in Brownsville!! The ambiance of the place was also like exquisite! I loved the entertainment! Muahh! read more

We went to their Dedham location last night for a "Special Occasion" dinner. We had a 7pm reservation and were seated as soon as we arrived (a little early). The restaurant was notably busy for a Tuesday night. The cocktails before dinner were great. When we were ordering the calamari appetizer the server mentioned a mixed-grill of sorts of seafood that was prepared in a similar way to fried calamari that was delicious and accompanied by equally good spinach salad. The entrees were okay but not great unfortunately. My husband had their red snapper special and said it was "okay". I had the scallop risotto - the scallops were fine but the risotto was seemingly both overcooked and undercooked and not worth finishing unfortunately. The wine list had great selections to choose from and a bottle of Pinot Grigio went perfectly with our evening. Not to be forgotten - the staff at Il Massimo are hard working and their teamwork efforts appeared seamless throughout the night. read more

Went for lunch with a friend. Very impressed with both the staff and the food! Not rushed !

We went here this afternoon on a whim before a movie, sat down at 4:05, and literally no one came by until 4:25. Finally got to order a drink at 4:45, and it didn't get to the table til 5pm. Once we actually got to order food it came out of the kitchen quickly, and was... fine. A little under seasoned and unexciting. But the service! I genuinely thought we were being pranked. read more

Food was amazing. Our server Hannah was outstanding. Order the fig Gorgonzola prosciutto pizza for an app. We will be back

We all totally enjoyed our apps and dinner We sat at the bar because we didn't have a reservation. The bar tender was excellent friendly and service was great. We want to say the bar back Anthony was probably the hardest working young man we have seen in a long time. They are lucky to have such a friendly hard working young man read more

Loved this place! I'm a big Italian food fan - the food here did NOT disappoint! The bread and olive oil was warm and garlicky and delicious. We had the prosciutto burrata starter (which was awesome!) and our server recommended the 4 cheese gnocchi with the sausage so I went with that. My friend had the lobster ravioli. I often find that gnocchi gets overcooked but the softness of the gnocchi with perfect. The barrata cheese and sausage was a great combination! My friend enjoyed the lobster ravioli as well though she said it was very lobster-y (including the red sauce it came with). Service was excellent, great dining experience. read more

Had another wonderful dinner at Il Massimo. I highly recommended the cauliflower side dish and if you can... recommend Adrian as your server. He is so fun and has great recommendations. Thank you Adrian! Can't wait to come back. read more

Updated Review- my friends and I visited Il Massimo Ristorante yesterday for a late lunch and I was very impressed with the beautiful decor of the restaurant. Last time, my husband picked up takeout and awe didn't experience the inside. The food was very good, I had the Fusilli al Ragù Napoletano and it was delicious. The meatball was tender and very flavorful and best if all, not salty! We also had the Cannoli sampler and it was very good as well. read more

This place was great. Awesome Food Awesome Service Plus since it was restaurant week they had a 2 course meal for only $30. I can't wait to go back read more

Everyone we spoke to was so kind and helpful. Ryan was our sever and he was amazing. The food was unreal - i got the gnocchi with chicken and my boyfriend got the lasagna. We also got a side of the potato cakes. Everything came quick, hot and perf. Just the right amount of flavor. Portions were pretty big (cannot wait to eat my leftovers later ). It was our anniversary so when we sat they had rose pedals and a sign. Overall a great experience and we definitely will be back read more

First of all, I'd like to say that Massimo always delivers on the flavor of the food and I haven't eaten anything that I didn't enjoy , however, I have seldom had a good experience when it comes to service and being attended to. The past 3-4 times I have visited the restaurant there has been a lot of wait time from being greeted to trying to order food with servers, and our dinners have seemed to drag a LOT longer than needed. As someone who has experience in food service, I can give the benefit of the doubt if it were short staffing or peak times of the day, but this has been a recurring problem for multiple visits. It makes it hard to visit regularly or even recommend the restaurant to anyone without warning them that their dinners can be up to 3-4 hours. read more

Great food and service. Terrific chic ambiance, free parking. They also have a private room, which is good to know!

We ordered pandemic takeout from a delivery service that then couldn't deliver - and as our food was ready and waiting, they sent someone over with the food once we called. Above and beyond! Food tends to suffer in the translation to takeout, but our meals were delicious, the orechiette with sausage and rabe was really nicely done, and the caesar salad was excellent and the cats appreciated the anchovies on the side. Can't wait to try this place in person! read more

Omg!!!! What an amazing experience!!! From the moment we walked in the door til we left, it was amazing! I chose Il Maximo for my birthday dinner and man it was especial! When my boyfriend made the reservation he did not note that it was my birthday, so when I got carded the waitress was surprised that they didn't know about the occasion. Soon she comes to our table with a Happy Birthday sign and some star confetti. Our food was to die for!! Simply DELICIOUSLY perfect! I hade the filet (butter is the right word) super tender! My boyfriends the scallops with risotto, my son had chicken parmigiana and my daughter the cheesiest nhoque! I would definitely recommend this place!! Pricy but sooooo worth it!!! Ohhh and I can not forget our server, Dorothy!!! What an amazing person! Made our experience even better!! Sweet, funny and very knowledgeable!! Please ask to seat on her tables!!! read more

Mediocre Italian food at a fairly high price. The veal parmigiana was not tender, despite costing $36.

Had a late lunch with friends recently. Very comfortable environment. Calamari was excellent, as was the cannoli. The entrees were disappointing. Temperature was tepid at best; pasta was cold, overcooked and swimming in sauce. At least a step below Olive Garden. Server was polite, but slow and fairly inattentive. Salads came; had to ask for pepper and got a small sprinkler instead of fresh ground. All in all, for a restaurant with a sister on Federal Hill in Providence, we expected more and were very disappointed. 3 stars is generous. read more

Great Italian restaurant. We went three times already. Probably best Italian restaurant in Dedham Legacy place.

Mike and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary at IL Massimo last Friday night . Mike had made reservation & informed them if the special occasion . Upon arrival , table was ready with card and rose petals !!!! So cute ... The veal medallions wrapped in BACON was incredible over mashed . My seafood risotto had a soft taste of lemon that was delightful . The Amalfi Negroni cocktail was tantalizing ! Mike toasted our occasion with a fabulous Manhattan . A beautiful dinner for a very special moment. Can't wait to go back ! read more

Lunch special gets you an app, an entree and dessert for $22. I tried the fagioli soup, the chicken parm with pasta and the tiramisu for dessert. All very generous portions and extremely tasty. I would really like to go back to try dinner but it is much more expensive read more

Awesome place. Service was great and good environment. Food was excellent. Will return.

I've been a handful of times and I always have a range between good - fantastic experiences. I was most recently there for Brunch which was delicious. Previously, I'd only been here for lunch or dinner dates. I'm unsure if it was because of brunch or Boston opening up more but this was the busiest I'd ever seen the restaurant. It was almost uncomfortable for me. As a vegetarian, the menu can be a bit limited, unless you don't mind the heavy dairy menu meatless options available. There have been several occasions where the server explained that the chef would love to make me something. She asked me a few questions as far as base (ie. Tomato or cream sauce), veggies I liked etc. The two times I've taken them up on this offer have been amazing! So good I asked for them to put this on the menu. Oh, get the cauliflower appetizer, it has amazing flavor. read more
