I came here (twice now) after first visiting the Providence location back in March. The food is incredible. The last time, I came with my parents, who as Italians are reluctant about eating Italian food in the US, loved the food. Definitely recommend and will be returning. Food: The charcuterie plate (antipasto rustico), the pizza with fig and prosciutto (not on their online menu currently), the squid ink lobster pasta, and duck confit fig and mascarpone ravioli (looks slightly different now) were all delicious and highly recommended. My parents enjoyed the gnocchi and filet as well. Drinks: I've only had the berry margherita and it's a nice refreshing drink. Their beer menu is a bit lacking, however. Not enough for me to remove a star, however. Decor/ambience: Very nice, very classy. Great date night spot or for a special occasion. Service: Very nice. Nothing to complain or rave about. I think it was exceptional at the Dedham location, but just fine at the Dedham one. I was so disappointed with this place. My family and I went to the one in Providence a few months ago and it was great. But this one was terrible!! My husband and I sat at the bar. The chairs were uneven and I had to lock my legs around the legs to keep it from spinning. Really annoying! We order an expresso martini and a Hendrix and soda. The martini was not good at all, way too sweet and the tonic they used was bad quality and ruined the drink. We order the muscles and they were only ok. We had planned to eat dinner there, but after the poor service and the terrible drinks we left and went some where else. So disappointing!!! read more

My third time coming here I wanted to sit at the bar and I waited for the next seat available. The female bartender, saw that I was with my 17-year-old son who is 6'5 feet tall. If I could rate this place ten stars I would. I have never had a bad meal in here. I will say the service is slightly better at the bar ( I think this for every restaurant) but the servers in here are amazing. I tend to be a creature of habit when I eat here. I order the blood orange cosmo, the beef carpaccio and the spaghetti Carbonara. The beef carpaccio is so fresh and flavorful. The aioli they use brings the whole thing together to be perfection. Yes it is raw thinly sliced beef but I promise you it taste like a heavenly bite if you are willing to try it. It's also half off during their happy hour (Mon-fri 3-6) Now on to the main star of the show the absolutely stunning carbonara. Guanciale is a rich and flavorful mature cousin to pancetta and bacon. It helps enhance the richness of this dish. The raw egg yolk on top (you can opt out of this if it's not your thing but it's surely mine) helps to bring out a creamier flavor to the sauce. This dish is my ultimate favorite thing on the menu and it's offer for a steal during lunch (pre fixe menu for $24) or dinner. Now onto dessert I had a pistachio cannoli and a dark espresso martini. If you like desserts that are lightly sweet and not overpowering do yourself a huge favor and try their cannolis. The cream in filling is delectable and sweet enough to conquer a sweet tooth without making you feel gross afterwards. Out of the restaurants I've tried in legacy place Il Massimo has consistently been the best for years. I recommend them to anyone who loves delicious Italian food. read more

Dinner was great. Literally devoured everything. Made reservations on Open Table and was able to modify to come earlier than expected. Even when showing up 20 mins early, we were able to be seated. Restaurant was pretty busy too! Our waiter was very nice. Calamari and Mussels were pretty basic but it was still delish because we ate it all. I usually get a bolognese every where I go but tonight I wanted to try something new. The carbonara was a delight, paired it with a glass of Pinot Grigio. The flavor wasn't too overwhelming. Tiramisu was a good choice for dessert, it wasn't too creamy and you definitely tasted the layers. read more

I had the beef carpaccio followed by spaghettoni alla carbonara. The carpaccio had good flavor, but the texture was all wrong. The beef seemed to have been pounded too thin and too soft. It wasn't possible to pick up the slices of beef with a fork or knife or even move them on the plate. They could only be scraped off with a knife, like a paste. The guanciale in the carbonara was nicely fried, but the sauce had a strange texture, not creamy, but glutinous. There was too much of it and it gave the dish both an unattractive look and an unappealing mouth feel. It was topped with an egg yolk that I stirred in, which didn't help. In general, the pasta dishes of the three other people at my table were not that well executed. The focaccia which was in the bread basket was very good, and the fish, which one of us had, seemed very well prepared. read more

This was our first visit to Il Massimo at Legacy Place & it will not be our last! This restaurant is beautifully designed - very plush and inviting! The hostess greeted us warmly, and our waitress, Joanna D., was absolutely lovely. She was extremely attentive, engaging, sociable, pleasant, helpful and charming. The three of us enjoyed different brunch dishes, and they we all very delicious, flavorful, and beautifully presented. We also ordered the cannoli trio & they were superb! We came here for a birthday celebration and had a poor experience. The cocktail I was served was terrible so it was a bit of a mess from the beginning. My friend ordered chicken parmigiana and was served veal parmigiana instead (she doesn't eat veal so her meal was ruined). My duck entree was pretty salty but still good but everyone else in my party did not like their entrees. Dessert was good but it's hard to really mess up adffogato (it's just ice cream & espresso!). The services was not great and the whole experience was quite expensive for the quality of food that we received. No idea how the food tastes but service was awful. my poor young children were waiting in the heat just to get even a sip of water, let alone someone to take our order for food. They literally were filling up glasses at tables around us that already had food and drinks. At one point a server said he was getting more water since we were clearly suffering, but then walked by us and topped up folks who didn't need it. First time here and I loved everything we ordered. From the second you sit down, you get yummy, warm complimentary bread with pitted olives. For appetizers we got the Calamari Fritti and Carpaccio di Manzo. The Calamari Fritti consists of pan-fried, delicious Judith Calamari with sun-dried tomatoes, spicy pepper rings, arugula, and lemon aioli. The Carpaccio di Manzo was divine! Thin Sliced Raw Beef Tenderloin topped with Horseradish Aioli, a bed of arugula, parmigiano and capers. Chicken Parmigiano Rigatoni was very saucy, slightly salty. The chicken was Breaded and Pan-Fried topped with San Marzano Tomato Sauce and mozzarella. Rigatoni was cooked to just the right level of al dente. The Linguine alle Vongole was my favorite! The linguine was cooked to al dente perfection with Local Little Neck Clams, Garlic, Olive Oil and topped with Parsley. Every bite was so delicious, clams were perfectly seasoned and tender. Came here with my friend on a Sunday afternoon to get some food! We sat at the bar, the woman working at the bar was super kind and friendly. I love carbonara and usually will always try at any restaurant I go to and see one on the menu. I like the marinara meat pasta my friend got, tasted pretty good! The carbonara was really rich, very heavy but compared to some I've had at other restaurants it wasn't anything amazing but would say it was good. The carbonara definitely not for someone who doesn't like the heavy rich flavor. Since it does feel like a lot after you eat it. We also tried the seasonal apple cider mimosa, and I like it! We've been to Il Massimo dozens of times - the food, service, and ambiance are usually terrific. We went last night (July 1) - the place wasn't crowded (it's a holiday weekend), so it was surprising that we had a number of issues with our order. The service itself was outstanding (Lily is a real pro). The food, however, was very disappointing. The gluten free rolls were frozen in the middle when they were served. We ordered salads with grilled chicken - when it came out, the chicken was visibly undercooked (someone sliced it, so anyone paying attention would have seen how pink it was). We sent it back. But, they didn't remake the salads; they took the undercooked chicken off the salad, cooked it more, and put it back on the salad. They re-served us salad that had undercooked chicken sitting on it. That is unacceptable. We sent it back again. The manager made a big deal about not charging us for the salads - we sent them back, so not charging us was a given. The rest of the meal was fair - but not as good as it usually is. I was surprised that they didn't comp the meal, given the issues we had. The best part of dinner was the service (none of this was Lily's fault), but the food was fair (at best), and the overall experience was disappointing. Okay, their frutti di mare is AMAZING!!!! Everything from the broth to the pasta to the seafood were ON POINT & so flavorful!!! I was "hmm-ing" my way throughout the entire meal!!! The experience here was meh. I'm breaking down my review by course and service because there was quite a variation. Service - 3 stars. The waitress was polite but she didn't attend to the table enough, and she never asked if we wanted apps she just tried to take our dinner order. The food took forever to arrive. I wanted a leisurely night so it was okay but we waited at least 45 minutes from ordering our entrees to eating. We ordered them before our apps arrived and then we ate our apps and had an empty table for quite awhile just waiting. Luckily I like my boyfriend so we weren't in awkward silence. Atmosphere - 3 stars. I asked to sit outside which was nice, but the table was very shaky. There was a doorstop holding up one of the legs. We were offered a different table but the problem was the same. The drinks sweat in the heat and caused a waterfall in my boyfriend's lap. Might be better sitting inside. Bread - 3.5 stars. The actual bread was whatever but it came with this cool tomato sauce type thing instead of butter with eggplant and veggies in it. My boyfriend was not a fan but I was a big fan! Drinks - 4 stars. The alcoholic beverage I got was yummy and strong without being overpowering. If I could rate the soda my boyfriend got though it would be a solid 1. It tasted like flat sugar water. Apps - 3 stars. Nothing impressive. I got the caprese special, my favorite type of salad. Hard to mess this up so no complaints on taste, but I'm pretty sure I got an entire mozzarella ball (see picture). The ratio with the tomatoes was way off and the cheese completely filled me up. My boyfriend got a pretty blah Caesar. We also got some shrimp cocktail which was good but pretty impossible to mess up in my opinion. Entrees - 4 stars. Definite improvement from the apps. I got a special with halibut and risotto (I believe the same risotto comes with their normal shrimp entree). The fish was wonderful and the risotto was cooked well, but again what is with this ratio?! The risotto filled the plate and while I took home my leftovers I never made it through all the risotto. Way too much. My boyfriend got the spaghetti al Nero com Aragosta alla fra diavolo. Very yummy and normal portion size. Good place to hang out with friends. I enjoy Il Massimo in Providence so I have to try this new location in Dedham. The place is nice and modern. I love the booth that you can see entire restaurant. There are several good restaurants at the Legacy Place. If I want a lobster roll, I would go to legal C bar. If I go with friends, I would go to this place or the Yardhouse. Although the Yardhouse is much louder. If I want something more intimate and light, I would go to the Aquitaine. Overall, food at Il Massimo is very similar to the RI location. The salmon risotto dish and the bread pudding were not as good as the other location. Calamari 4/5 - good but nothing special Oyster 5/5 - good but nothing special Spinach Salad 4/5 - good. Too much dressing for me Fusilli al Ragù Napoletano 4/5 - a huge dish. Branzino 4.5/5 Salmone 4/5 - I asked for the salmon to be medium rare but it still came up completely cooked. It's too try for me. Capesante 5/5 This is the highlight of the meal. The risotto was so good Bread pudding 3/5 - I wouldn't order it again. The bread was heavy and chewy. I love the short rib gnocchi! They also have a great bread basket (I'm a carb junkie). The only thing that I don't like about this place is the location. Legacy Place is always a $h!+ show for parking. But, if you go into it mentally prepared to drive around for a while to find a spot or to get your steps in, then it's definitely worth it. Drinks were phenomenal- tried the fancy manhattan and a sangria- both were amazing! My friend tried the espresso martini and like it too! Eggplant appetizer was meh... not sure if it was too much eggplant and not enough cheese and red sauce. It didn't have a ton of flavor. The fruti de mare was great! Maybe a smidge on the spicy side-but great mix of seafood. Service was great too - on point but not hovering What I don't like about this location is the parking. I've been twice and would recommend to anyone! First time we sat outside in Summer. It's a smallish outdoor space but welcoming. My foodie friend and I were impressed with the food quality. Came back a second time tonight in winter and indoors is cozy with a cool, dark, intimate vibe. Our server was super duper nice, fast, and friendly. Attentive but not overbearing. The food was as good as I remember. We got 3 apps and split a main. Burrata, fried calamari, and octopus - yum! Short rib gnocchi is as good as it sounds! We went to their Dedham location last night for a "Special Occasion" dinner. We had a 7pm reservation and were seated as soon as we arrived (a little early). The restaurant was notably busy for a Tuesday night. The cocktails before dinner were great. When we were ordering the calamari appetizer the server mentioned a mixed-grill of sorts of seafood that was prepared in a similar way to fried calamari that was delicious and accompanied by equally good spinach salad. The entrees were okay but not great unfortunately. My husband had their red snapper special and said it was "okay". I had the scallop risotto - the scallops were fine but the risotto was seemingly both overcooked and undercooked and not worth finishing unfortunately. The wine list had great selections to choose from and a bottle of Pinot Grigio went perfectly with our evening. Went there for their quick lunch special ($20). The waitress was nice, but fairly inattentive. The portion was ok for the main course- but too small for the salad and dessert. I had the Caesar salad - which literally had 1/2 of an anchovy on it. I did not know whether to laugh or cry. And the cannoli (ok-"cannolo") was the teeny tiny type that you might see at a cocktail party. Who wants a baby cannoli? But it was pretty good.
