All the pastas we ordered were of the best we've ever had. First time back post pandemic and it's still a nice spot but didn't stand out to me like it used to. Firstly some people got stools for their purses but mine sat on the floor. Prices for wine bottles were astronomical- it made more sense to just do by the glass and the sav blanc was not great. I really wish they would consider switching from the lentils with bread to a nice olive tapenade or something else- the lentils feel lazy and flavorless. Pasta wise the truffle one was absolutely 5 star but the bolognese lacked flavor or depth. Service was fairly quick and polite. Having just arrived in NYC, we started scouring various reservations apps for a place to have dinner. We found Il Corso had availability along with great reviews, and further research convinced us this was the place to go. It turned out to be a great start to our trip, and one of the best meals we had during our visit! A long and narrow space nestled among other businesses along 55th, we were kindly and promptly seated. It was surprisingly full for a Monday night. This isn't a place for "Americanized" Italian fare. You won't find chicken parm on this menu, which was a wonderful feature of the menu since my husband and I have both lived in Europe and prefer more authentic Italian cuisine. We chose the croquettes and a salad to start. The croquettes had a perfectly light and crispy exterior, and a pillowy flavorful interior. My husband chose the lasagne all'Emilliana, different from American style lasagne with its wonderfully creamy bechamel layer. I chose the paccheri con Crema di Pistacchio e Salsiccia- a large tubular pasta with crumbles of sweet Italian sausage and creamy mascarpone and pistachio sauce. There's nothing similar to compare this dish to, but it was absolutely exquisite! It's one of those dishes that you won't easily forget! There were so many dishes on the menu that we wanted to try, and we were very happy with the dishes we ended up choosing. The bread service is initially complimentary and comes with a pleasant dip of olive oil, garlic, and lentils! Again, not typical of an Italian restaurant in the US, but delicious.. and we couldn't stop spooning lentils over the warm, crusty bread. So good! There's an additional charge for extra bread, which is probably a good thing because you'll want to keep eating bread and lentils otherwise! The only, and very slightly, disappointing things were the desserts we chose. Don't get me wrong, they were beautiful and delicious, but they were served far too hot. The ice cream on top was already melting when they arrived at the table, but breaking into the hot exterior and releasing more heat turned it into a soupy, sloppy mess. The flavor was still fabulous, but this soupy texture didn't allow for appreciating its individual components. Had it been warm and not piping hot, it would have been perfect! The Chianti Riserva was good and only got better as it breathed. The Peroni was nice and cold. Everything was so good, we considered just eating there every night, but we decided we should see what else the city had to offer! Il Corso is already on our list of places to return to the next time we visit! read more

We went on a Tuesday night for dinner and it was packed, which is a good sign for a relatively unknown Italian restaurant. We started with zucchini fritti and unbearably crispy Crocchette di Salumi e Formaggi. For pastas we sampled a variety of the menu including the fettuccine alla bolognese, lobster ravioli special, paccheri with pistachio cream and sweet sausage, one of the best lasagnas we've had in NYC and Cacio e pepe served in a cheese skirt bowl. Returned this afternoon for lunch before a matinee at City Centre -- and there are some new faces, all of whom were just as lovely and good at what they do than the ones I first met in 2018. And the food? Just as excellent, with some of the desserts made right there on the premises (try the pistachio tart; the crust might just change your life!). We went to a fine restaurant with this name maybe a decade ago. If memory serves, it was on the other side of the street. It was very expensive, so we had not been back. We just tried it again and there was nothing similar at all. Food was low to mediocre, one dimensional, service was unprofessional, prices were very very high. No bread, no cheese offered for bolognese, meats dry. There were no prices on the printed beer/wine by the glass menu. Bottle of wine ordered was forgotten, reminded, still not opened when first courses were in the table. Main courses arrive and still no wine, then the wine list is brought over, seems they do not have the wine we ordered. Upsell attempted. We chose another bottle at the original price point, which took some time to arrive and was finally opened, no time to breathe. Apologies were offered, comp glasses of wine (after all the food was gone) and a complementary dessert (a dessert I unfortunately dislike; no fault of theirs but didn't want it, nor did anyone in our party). This seemed like a sucker restaurant for midtown tourists. Very disappointing. read more

We found Il Corso through friends visiting from Dallas and have been back twice on our own. We love it. The food is impeccable, and the service is efficient. The space is long, dark, and smallish, but it's New York and smack in the middle of town, steps from Rockefeller Center and Broadway shows. We were seated immediately in this lovely restaurant with white tablecloths. I was undecided about a wine choice so the waiter offered two samples! We ended up with a bottle of Sassania Alfa Rose. Rosé is not typically my choice but it was quite good. I had the Papardelle el Telefono which WAS DELICIOUS. I'm not a big pasta fan and am always looking for some really good pasta so I can experience what people rave about. This was it. By far the best Italian food I've had since traveling to NY. I have been multiple times and now that I know of this place I'll make sure to come every time I visit. My dish had lemon zest and most people would say it's a bit overpowering but i love the taste of lemon. Our waters were never empty! I mean the man would come and fill up our drinks even if we took only one sip. Service on point! It is a smaller restaurant so don't be alarmed when you walk in and the Hoststand is right in front. My wife and I have been dining there for over 20 years. We live in New Jersey, and it is our favorite restaurant. There are no items not worth eating. We were there last night to celebrate our anniversary, and we were given a table in a quiet corner. My wife said the perfectly cooked halibut was best fish dinner ever. I had scrumptious cacio e pepe. Not everyone can make a great one. They do. Excellent octopus appetizer. Good reasonable wine list,. Tasty deserts; just the right size. Bartender makes excellent cocktails. But, most important is the ambiance-from the warm greeting from the hostess to the friendly, knowledgeable servers, the runners who make sure water glasses filled and quickly respond to other requests. The icing on the cake is the warm, charming owner whose exuberance fills the room , and who is as attendant to first-time diners as to regulars. Plus, if you have a craving for a specific Italian dish, and it's not on the menu, they'll try their best to make it. They made chicken fettuccini Alfredo for my daughter, which may not seem like a bug deal, but try going to a jive place in NYC and ordering off menu. For me, they took a seafood pasta dish, hav eve linguini instead of spaghetti and subbed a creamy fra diablo sauce - it was incredible. The wife had lasagna, to die for. I rarely go out to eat by myself, but I felt welcomed by everyone and well it was my birthday (which I may have mentioned once or twice when I got there :) ) anyway...The manager even came to say hi and wish me a happy birthday, nice touch. A different take on bread was a little bowl of lentils, I liked it for the spice in it, nice change of pace from plain olive oil or butter. For food, I had the burrata and fried artichokes which was good. Then for main I had the Paccheri con Crema di Pistacchio e Salsiccia - very good, sausage, pistachios, creamy sauce...I don't eat pasta like this often but it was definitely worth the calories. And then a pistachio tart for dessert and they also brought me a cannoli with a candle - I thought it was a nice touch first the pistachio tart - which I was so excited to eat I forgot to take a pic but very good, sweet, but I love pistachios so it was a great end to the meal. The cannoli was good too, but I was so full I could only eat a little of it, but I definitely liked the flavor.
