The service was 5+ stars - friendly, knowledgeable, without being stuffy or intrusive. The ambiance was perfect - dark but not too dark, lively but not so noisy I couldn't hear my dining companion, The burrata appetizer was a delightful blend of savory and a bit sweet. The only minor disappointment was our entrees: the short ribs were a tad dry, and the papardelle with duck was not as al dente as I would've hoped, and the color of the meat was a little unappealing. Still, we ate it all. The dessert platter was not appealing; probably better to just show a dessert menu. We would definitely return - loved the vibe, liked the food. Came here for a business lunch - probably the last and only time. Small Italian restaurant in Midtown that looked promising but fell short in many areas. The service was inattentive, slow and overall just lacking. We ordered the burrata and calamari where were both OK. I ordered the branzino with spinach and it wasn't seasoned properly. Spinach could have been out of the can, couldn't tell. Overall, not worth the price and experience. I would avoid - too many better places in the area to deal with their subpar service and food. read more

I have been wanting to try Il Corso for a while and I'm glad I did! It was very good. We started out with the Fritto Misto - fried calamari, shrimp & zucchini, with a spicy tomato sauce. It was fresh and crispy and light. I then had the special Pasta Genovese. It is a slow-cooked, rich sauce made with a large quantity of onions and beef served over ziti. It was delicious. We really liked this cozy and lively place. We made reservations and had to wait a few minutes past it, which is only tricky when it's cold because there's no place to really stand inside to wait. Once seated the service was really good (though we wish there was some bread!). Our appetizer was very good (it needed that lemon squeeze or salt for flavor brightness). We all really liked our entrees (not pictured is the lasagna). The bolognese is very meaty (if you're into that). I loved the dessert menu because it offered more than the traditional tiramisu or creme brûlée (both available) and included toasted panattone with marcapone and rum baba. We chose the rum baba - such a treat but we did wish it had whipped cream to cut the rum a tiny bit. Such a fun dessert though. I've already recommended this place to folks. I love pasta, so having an Italian meal was a must for me in NYC. I found Il Corso on Yelp and made a reservation on OpenTable for lunch. It wasn't busy when I stopped by on a weekday. It's a small restaurant, but there's additional seating in the back. I couldn't decide between the Tagliolini al Limone (lemon pasta; $15 for a half portion) and Fettucine con Funghi e Prosciutto ($16.50 for a half portion), so I treated myself and got half orders of both! As noted on their menu, there is a 10% upcharge for split dishes and half orders. Food was prepared quickly. I was brought my dish within 10 minutes of ordering. I was surprised (and also saddened because I love my carbs) that there was no complimentary bread service. When my pasta was served, they brought Parmesan and cracked black pepper to top it off with (yes, please!). My pasta dishes were delicious, but portions were teeny tiny (like 3-5 bites, depending on how ladylike you want to be). I know these were half portions, but even so, you can get an idea of what the regular portion sizes would be. I probably should've ordered a third half order to be fully satiated. I suppose the pasta dishes are meant to be a side/course and not the main entree. I enjoyed the lemon pasta, which is also topped with breadcrumbs to give it extra texture. The lemon flavor was light and subtle; I like a bit more zing to really taste the lemon. I loved the Funghi pasta. It had an earthy flavor from the mushrooms and came in a rich truffle cream sauce. However, I'm not sure if the prosciutto was extra skimpy because I ordered the half portion, or if that's just how it comes. Both pastas were cooked perfectly al dente. Since I was a in "treat yourself" mood (and was still hungry from the itty bitty portions), I decided to order dessert. Instead of a dessert menu, they present you with a dessert tray to order from. I ordered the chocolate chip cannolis ($14) which came with two pieces. I'm a chocolate chip fiend, so I was hoping for a cannoli overflowing with chocolate chips on both ends, but sadly, this was not the case... there was a below average amount of chocolate chips in the filling. The shell was nice and crispy, but the filling was quite sweet for my tastes. Service was adequate, but intermittent. Different staff members did a good job of refilling my water throughout the meal, however, I was never checked on after being served my entree. After my plates were cleared, there was definitely a lull in service by the waiter. As an Italian spot, perhaps they were taking a more European restaurant service approach? Either way, I would still come back to Il Corso for the pasta... I'll just have to order the full portions next time :). read more

It is sweet, creamy, and decadently rich. It's a must order for me. In truth, I found myself distracted multiple times by how good the food smelled as the servers carried it past me to other tables. Still, I was thrilled with my Paccheri. I was practically drooling when it touched down on the table. But I can't wait to come back and explore more of the menu. The service is good--charming and helpful if a bit slow at points. And the decor is simple and classic. It doesn't over do it, but the vibe is warm with white tablecloths and candles. Depressing, outdated Italian dining at its absolute worst. Run down and even broken chairs. Ironically, the painfully slow service was the least disappointing part of the evening. The waiter's ritualistic recitation of the specials sounded tired, mechanical, and completely devoid of pride - as if even he didn't expect the food to be good. He then vanished, only to resurface 30 minutes later to take our order. Had he stayed gone, we likely would have walked out - which, in hindsight, would have been the better outcome. Unfortunately, he returned, took the order, and the food followed. The food was unequivocally subpar. The Caesar salad was one of the worst I've had, despite the anchovies. The veal Milanese was poorly executed. The seafood in the red-sauce pasta was of very low quality and very little of it, though the red sauce itself was at least edible. The absence of bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar was, perhaps, a blessing - it spared us yet another disappointment. We skipped dessert to avoid compounding the mistake. I have not had this before but the combo was great! Their focaccia is perfect and each piece was warm. They have good classic cocktails and gorgeous desserts. Loved the pistachio tart dessert - they brought out a plate with all of the dessert choices for us and all of them looked amazing, it was hard to pick just one. The pomodoro spaghetti was flavored well and the noodles were good. The Cacio e Pepe was presented well with cheese wheel shavings, but sadly missed the mark for me a bit -- the dish could have been a bit more flavorful rather than just creamy. On the other hand, the special of truffle mushroom risotto was DELICIOUS. I am a fan of all things mushroom and truffle so I'm biased but it was an absolute hit for me. We had the fettuccine in truffle and mushroom cream sauce as well as the paccheri with sausage and pistachio cream and both of the noodles and sauces went wonderfully together. The food was almost as good. The special salad and appetizers were fantastic - the highlight of the evening (except maybe the dessert)! Il Corso is a pleasant neighborhood Italian restaurant with solid food and a very good selection of wine. It's predominantly southern Italian cuisine. 30 years and counting so you know they are doing some things well. Lots of regulars who the servers seem to greet by name. There are maybe 20 tables spread across two rooms separated by the kitchen and prep area. The relatively small spaces with low ceilings means things can get loud and hard to hear your dining companions. On to the food... Avocado e Carciofini: Smashed avocado mixed with artichokes hearts topped with slices of parmigiana cheese. I've never seen this on a menu before. It was delicious and somewhat addicting. Paccheri con Crema di Pistacchio e Salsiccia: sweet sausage are served with tube pasta and coated with a mascarpone & pistachio cream. A rich dish- a little too rich. We ate it all but probably shouldn't have. Fettuccine con Funghi e Prosciutto: Mushrooms and prosciutto with a truffle cream sauce. Not too creamy. Definitely worth repeating. You can substitute gluten free or whole wheat pasta in any dish for an additional charge. With so many Italian restaurants in NYC, it's hard to justify coming from across town but I'd definitely come back if I was staying nearby. read more

My mom ordered the tomato salad (literally just different types of tomatoes layered with bread crumbs, parmasan, and balsalmic (9/10 really fresh tomatoes!) and I got the butternut squash soup (10/10 warming and delicious). Then I got the spaghetti di mare 1/2 size(10/10 the pasta was obviously fresh and the sauce was so good). We shared the pumpkin pie for dessert (8/10 good flavor but the pie was obviously just heated in the microwave so the crust got soggy) Overall I'd return! read more

We enjoyed a terrific meal with excellent service. We started with the artichoke and avocado salad which was more like a pate under a slice of hard cheese. This was just a fantastic experience from start to finish. -Cozy and intimate vibes and exactly the kind of little place you'd want to stumble in for a hearty meal and a drink after a day of walking around the cold and busy city. -A+ service. Dining with a toddler in tow can be stressful (esp at a nice place) and the owner just went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. No kids menu but they'll make up anything they can that is kid friendly. Chicken milanese cutlet and fries was perfect for my two year old. The owner even brought out a kid friendly cup and went out of his way to make sure I knew where the changing friendly bathroom was without me having to ask. These little things go a long way. From a tired Mom, thank you. -Excellent pasta. We shared the lobster ravioli as an app which was just outstanding and in the the most creamy and decadent sauce. For mains I tried the meat lasagna and the spaghetti limone. Both were just wonderful. Portions aren't large but you'll definitely leave satisfied, and I suggest ordering an app or so too. -Full bar and an extensive wine list. My aperol spritz hit the spot after a long day. Finding dinner in Manhattan is always overwhelming, so I'm really glad I found Il Corso on Yelp. Entrees were enjoyable and worth going back for: Cacio e Pepe - definitely the star of the show. Tasted great and the presentation was awesome Lasagne all'Emiliana - cute sized portion and flavor was on point Short Ribs - my partner really liked this, I thought it was fine but the sauce was a bit more sticky and red wine tasting than I liked. We had an amazing experience with Il Corso this past weekend. What initially was planned to be a dinner for about half our group turned into nearly taking over the entire restaurant. I loved how accommodating Il Corso was from the get-go. Once seated, we enjoyed a selection of appetizers and wine while determining our pasta dishes. While they were all "winners", I loved the Burrata. Portions were more than fair. Like the appetizers, the pasta dishes were all excellent as well. Cacio e Pepe was probably the table favorite, as it comes complete in a cheesebowl! I went with the Fettuccine alla Bolognese and did have food envy. That being said, the fettucine was cooked perfectly and like the apps, the pasta was portions appropriately. We finished with desserts. Them bringing out the dessert tray made picking easier (or harder since they all looked amazing). I went with the flan and did not share. My guest and I had dinner here last Wednesday and this place simply missed the mark. First off it was a quiet Wednesday night and plenty of available tables yet the hostess wanted us to sit next to a table of loud bros when we were looking for a quiet night dinner. She begrudgingly agreed to our request for a different table. In addition you do not want to sit close to the entrance because the street is loud and when the trash is out on a humid night you can smell it during dinner. The food was bland and flavorless. We had a salad and burrata which was boring and my paparadelle which I was looking forward to had no flavor at all. The Crem brûlée also came out very cold that we asked them to reheat it. And to top it off a second after we paid our bill a massive cockroach appeared under our feet that had we seen it during dinner we would have left. They did nothing to apologize or try and gain our future business for the entire evening being a disaster. I would never go back here. read more
