A side of spaghetti marinara was served with the chicken. The meatballs were maybe 3 oz each. Fork tender and had a great herbaceous flavor. We were planning to try the place a week earlier, on a Sunday evening, as we were hosting out of town guests. We live on the golf course, so it is a pleasant 20-minute walk. We had called earlier to check if we needed a reservation, they said no and then told us that they do not close until 9:00 PM. So, we walk over and timed our arrival for 7:30. When we arrive a waiter comes over to inform us that due to it being a slow night they shut down the entire kitchen, early. Besides us four we saw two other couples get turned away, at nearly the same time. For us, it meant a 20 minute walk back to the house before we could start to find a decent open alternative, which on a Sunday evening in Simi can be a real challenge. A decent restaurant should not fluctuate its hours just because they might have a slower than average night! The following Friday they were busting at the seams, so they need to take the good with the bad and at the very least, be dependable. That is, if they want a loyal following. Perhaps this is a one off, then if so I will happily bump this place to a 5-star. But until then we will be calling the place, as we head over, each time, just to make sure they will be honoring their advertised hours of business.

My father-in-law invited my husband and me to lunch today, March 14, 2024, at IHOP--a place that hasn't typically been my go-to for dining out. However, given it was a newly opened location, I was open to giving it another chance. Regrettably, my experience compels me to share feedback, not out of preference but out of a sense of duty. I opted for the Fresh Berry Salad, a choice between grilled or crispy chicken, fresh strawberries, red onions, and avocado atop a bed of lettuce. Unfortunately, the "fresh" aspect fell short. The lettuce was noticeably wilted, and the blueberries, far from fresh, they were frozen, resulting in a disappointingly soggy salad. I forgot to mention, they only offer one salad dressing, Ranch. On a positive note, the other ingredients maintained their freshness, and the chicken was flavorful. My father-in-law chose the BLT from the 55+ menu. He enjoyed his sandwich, his french fries were shriveled and appeared to have been under a warmer for too long, rendering them overly dry. My husband selected the Classic Burrito & Bowl, opting for the bowl version. It featured mixed scrambled eggs, a choice of hickory-smoked bacon or sausage, shredded jack cheese, and hash browns. While he found the dish enjoyable, the only drawback was that it was served cold. Our food was satisfactory, determined by the food quality and the temperature of the food. Since we recently moved to Simi and were displeased with the other IHOPs located in the San Fernando Valley, we decided to try this IHOP which is nearby where we live. Betty was the only server and she was outstanding. She brought our water right away, gave us a few minutes to decide what to order and then returned with a smile. She brought our meal promptly and everything tasted good. While I am disappointed that the menu is mostly breakfast items and not much for lunch/dinner, I still enjoyed my chicken strips and fries. Too bad they serve Pepsi and not Coke products. The prices were higher than we are used to at a pancake house but given what's been going on in the world lately we really weren't all that surprised. What really set Betty apart from other servers: I forgot that I had left my phone in the booth and Betty noticed we were going to our car and asked me if the phone was mine. I was so grateful that she took the time to return it to me prior to our leaving. We will return in the future. read more

I don't know what happened to this Denny's. I've gone here before and the food was good. But my recent time was so bad. I felt like I needed to write a review. Let people know and maybe they could fix things. The food was not good. I had pancakes which had black stuff on the bottom which I can only guess came from some kind on grill that hadn't been cleaned. I asked for an English muffin. It was the hardest English muffin I was ever seen. Could've probably hammered a nail in with it, also half the bread was missing on the inside. Then I had asked for jelly which never came to my table even though I asked several times every time he came back to say is everything good. My friend that had white toast went to put butter on it, and noticed it had green on the edges where it had been cut in half we could only imagine it was from a dirty knife that cut some green food earlier. I normally love going to Denny's and was very excited about the new one and Simi Valley, but sadly very disappointed. read more

Decided to check this location out since it was on the way home from work. I had Amayrani as a server, and her service was excellent! Food was delicious and the drinks were cold and refreshing. I went to ihop last Saturday. And had an amazing experience. I walked in and was greeted by a friendly red haired host. And I got sat in the back of the restraunt. He even opened our menus for us. I was served by Mellisa, who was great. She brought us all our food fast, and was so friendly to us. Even when we were walking out everyone was so friendly. Upon walking to our table & pulling out our chairs, a man in a suit, who I presume was the manager, asked if we had been helped. He completely caught us off guard because we hadn't even sat down yet. I answered him yes, & then he proceeded to tell me that usually someone from the front would walk us to our table (as if we had just walked into the restaurant & sat ourselves). What?! I responded & told him the host did. In actuality, she walked us to the vicinity of our table, not right up to our table, but that's a discussion for him to have with the hostess. Being we were customers & this was a nicer restaurant in comparison to a more casual or fast food place, the way in which the manager confronted us & handled the situation was completely unprofessional. Anyways, the rest of our party soon joined us & after ordering drinks & a couple of appetizers, we ordered our food. Well, out of the 3 medium well steaks we ordered, all 3 were brought to us rare (red & much more raw inside than we prefer, or ordered). We sent all 3 back & when they came back, they were better, but still not medium well). This is surprising because being Larsen's is a steakhouse, I would think the cooks would be able to gauge the temperatures more accurately. Needless to say, the seasoning they use gives their steaks a delicious flavor, so we did enjoy that. Another issue we encountered was our waiter, although very nice, took the initiative of charging our party for extra kids chicken tenders, simply because our friends' daughters were sharing them & had asked for an extra plate. While that was a kind gesture, he should have asked their parents if they would like extra tenders, not just do it & then charge us. Also, my friend's husband ordered 2 sides with his prime rib, thinking it came with 2 sides. When the bill came it reflected the $10 additional side, so he asked the waiter about how it, to which the waiter responded that the menu clearly states that it only comes with one side. I understand that & our friend's husband clearly didn't see that (nor did we pay attention when he ordered it, we were talking), but typically in cases like this, the waiter would let the person know that they would be happy to accommodate their request, but that the extra side will be an additional charge. After being at the restaurant for over 2 hours between the slow service, issues with our steaks, & discrepancies over the additional charges (which the waiter did take care of), we left a little less than satisfied with the restaurant, & the waiter was clearly not happy with us. Although the waiter took care of everything, not once did the manager come back to our table to apologize or ask how everything was. Usually when there's an issue, the manager will stop by the table to check in. I don't know that we'll be returning to this location.

It looks like they might be breaking some child labor laws because their new staff member was definitely under age and half of their entire drink menu was just milk, not ideal. When I questioned this, they became extremely defensive and claimed it was "artisanal" and "locally sourced." The ambiance is fine, but the head chef (Sarah) is extremely rude and takes digs at you during the meal....not fun. She also kept leaving mid-service to "handle something in the back" which I can only assume means the kitchen is in complete chaos. At one point she just disappeared for 20 minutes. Completely unprofessional. Calling in to place a reservation is quite the hassle. You get put on a 3 way facetime call???? all while the staff insults you and talks about sourcing ingredients from japan or their costa rican cuisine fusion. Doesn't really make sense. They also have ZERO consistency with their hours of operation. I tried to make a reservation for 7pm and was told they "don't really do dinner service anymore" and that I should "just come over whenever." The real kicker? I found multiple toys in the dining area and what appeared to be cheerios ground into the carpet. This used to be a respectable establishment. Save your money and go literally anywhere else.

When I came, I was able to find parking just fine in the plaza this location is in. When I walked inside, they didn't have that many guest inside. You can order from the kiosk or with the person at the counter. I ordered with the person at the counter. I asked for there to be no sour cream in the chicken tostada and got the classic one. I didn't have to wait long for my order but they put sour cream in it. I told the person who took my order and he apologized. He went to remake my order personally and apologized again. I got all three sauce with my order. My wife loved her food but they didn't give that much chicken in the tostada.

She continued to talk down on me and this is when I lectured her about customer service! Aren't managers supposed to demonstrate how customers are supposed to be treated and respected, irrespective of any distraction? How can she run a store in Simi Valley if she acts like a Karen? What's her problem? I just want an El Pollo Loco chicken lunch, only to lose my appetite with this manager. How does El Pollo Loco train their managers? I walked in and was greeted by Rakeila who was very nice. However, the first problem arose when she was not sure what items were and weren't gluten free. This is not a problem with Rakeila, but rather management, who should simply list this on their menus, both online and in the restaurant. After figuring out which items would be and would not be gluten free, I ordered a double burger, w/ hot chiles (see receipt attached). I added on the combo which includes fries and a drink. I then ordered an LA dog w/ jalapenos and bacon only and a second order of fries. The bun was omitted since my wife has a sensitivity to gluten. The total came out to 38.61 before tip. I then sat and didn't have to wait too long before the food came out, which i promptly took home. The burger was surprisingly small for 14 dollars (see attached). I understand that it is made of smash patties, and that the beef is high quality, but it still feels too pricey for what you get. I would rather pay 20 dollars and get a larger burger. The flavor of the burger was actually quite good - the beef has a nice level of char and flavor. Infact, flavor-wise, this is one of the if not the best tasting burger in Simi. However, the second problem was that my burger was missing the hot chiles (see attached). I wouldn't mind normally if this was a free option, but i paid 2 dollars extra for this. My wife's hotdog also tasted quite good. Since the order only included bacon and jalapenos, I was expecting that there would be plenty of each. There indeed was plenty of bacon, but there were only 4 thin slices of jalapeno (see attached; one was already eaten). Lastly, the fries were excellent. They tasted well seasoned and the beef tallow adds a nice depth of flavor. Overall, I believe 3/5 stars is a fair review. This place could very easily be 4-5 stars with some slight changes. Pros: Great flavor, cooked well, friendly and timely staff. Cons: Mediocre value for what you pay, missing items/attention to detail, allergens are not clearly listed on menus.
