    Saikyo-yaki foie gras risotto - IG @bougiefoodieboi
    Kyle W.

Somewhat local hidden gem in the greater Seattle area. I heard about this place via Resy and was intrigued by the French Japanese fusion style food. I made a reservation specifically for the dining room (view) seating which only has 2 tables so they are in quite high demand especially on Saturdays (you could also reserve the bar seats (view) alternatively which is more abundant in supply). The pricing of this place is very spendy, so I wouldn't really recommend unless you are able to snag one of the tables with a view, since while the food is good, there are comparable quality food elsewhere at a better price range. The view is good but not marvelous, but it does make a nice backdrop for a date night especially as the sun sets. We got the following to try: - Iconiq's gazpacho - this was served in a shot glass with some cut vegetables. Quite refreshing and kind of like an aperitif but cold soup format - Chilled sweet corn soup - I have had chilled corn soup and this is one of the better ones. What made it stand out is the tomato togarashi ice cream so you are kind of eating a savory ice cream to mix flavors with the corn soup - Saikyo-yaki foie gras risotto - one of the more popular dishes, but I was not too impressed. The foie gras made the dish rather heavy, but the flavor of the arborio rice did not fully match - Wasabi herb butter filet mignon - the beef was so good as it was tender and easy to eat. The herb butter is so flavorful and the vegetables and hash brown with cream made good complements to the dish. It was a well rounded dish, though comes at a hefty price tag of $60 - Scoop of soy sauce ice cream - remarkably affordable dish compared to some of the high priced items on the menu. At $6, not only do they scoop the ice cream, but also added some fixings like apple and almond crumbles. There is also a sesame tuile (cracker) that added another texture to the dish. The ice cream is quite unique as it is slightly savory and the soy sauce flavor was not super apparent that makes it less appetizing, so I would highly recommend to try it for the experience! Service I had to take off 1 star overall. The restaurant is small but I had to keep asking for water refills as they were not automatically done. Courses take a while to come in between which is fine, but no one checked up on us if we needed more drinks, etc. We pointed out the table has a few drops of soup but the waitress just dismisses it. During the entrees, there was a pink slip of paper under one of the dishes so there is a bit of carelessness to not double check before serving to the customer. While they did a good job with replacing dishes and utensils each course, they did not wipe down the table at minimum between entrees and dessert. After waiting a while after finishing dessert, the waitress slaps the check on us without asking us if we needed anything else (circles back from checking up on us once in a while, which they did not). For a restaurant at such a high price point and food quality, I have to nitpick these types of things because a similar restaurant of this caliber will execute these flawlessly if not be cognizant of major service flaws, where this restaurant fails. When we are paying almost $90 per person for a decent sized meal, we definitely expected more from the overall experience, especially after dining at more than 75% of the upscale restaurants in Seattle as reference.

I was excited to check out Iconiq as I think the intersection of French and Japanese cuisine sounds really interesting to me. I also loved hearing that Chef Kawai, who started the restaurant was a student from South Seattle College, as someone who is a fan of their culinary program. We went on a Saturday around 6:30PM and were able to get seated in 5ish minutes (with a reservation). Iconiq is tucked away between many shops on a smaller street that has a nice overlook of the Seattle city skyline. I could foresee parking being a bit difficult during busier times of the day, but there seems to be ample parking in the nearby neighborhood if you are looking to stay for not too long. The ambiance of the restaurant is definitely upper end dining with nice dim intimate lighting and an open kitchen where you can see the chefs hard at work. As for the food, I'll review a couple of items down below: Baguette ($5): Of bread that I have tried at fine dining restaurants, I would say that this was disappointing. The bread itself took 30 minutes to come out and when it did come it, it was cold and a bit tough. I think in my mind, I was expected the bread to be toasted or slightly elevated as most places give you complimentary bread. For $5, it is basically $1 per slice! I think I would recommend skipping this option as an appetizer. Creamy Potato Leek Soup with Gnocchi ($18): A very interesting take on potato leek soup! The chocolate coulis gives a very nice earthly and hearty taste - this flavor profile is sort of like a lighter and more pleasant artichoke dip without the bike of the artichokes. This is a really decadent soup and the texture with the thick but toothsome croutons that acted like mini dumplings from chicken and dumplings rather than croutons was scrumptious. Iberico Pluma with Mascarpone Polenta ($45): The Iberico was delicious - tender enough where there is a slightly chewy texture. The cranberry mustard yuzu demi was really unique! This demi almost gave a miso earthiness/umami feeling that was distinctive to me - it was cool seeing Japanese flavors replicated through French ingredients. The polenta was crispy on the outside and soft and creamy on the inside. I think this dish was absolutely delicious! I think my biggest critique of the restaurant is that the service is extremely lacking for the ambiance and expected level of hospitality. Not only did it take 30 minutes just for us to get our baguette, we had to continuously wave down waiters just to check in on the status of our orders. I think we actually got our soup about 45 minutes in and our entrees about an hour and a half in. Our dining experience lasted basically from when we arrived at 6:30 to almost 8:45pm. For reference, I've been to another fine dining restaurant where the experience lasted that long, but we had like 6 courses instead of 2. If the restaurant was larger, I would totally understand, but this is a moderately sized establishment that the waiters could totally see everyone they are servicing. I think it personally would have helped to have a more attentive wait list because my personal experience eating here suffered greatly due to the almost 2 hour wait to enjoy only a 2 course meal. I'll give it a benefit of the doubt, the restaurant could have been an off day, but I was really disappointed with my experience. Overall, I think the food is really solid - majority of the more indepth dishes were absolutely delicious and presented a nice texture and flavor profile that compliments both Japanese and French cuisine. As flavorful as the food was, I think I'm trying to take in account the whole experience, which included the sub-par service, which is unfortunate. Hopefully this isn't the case if you decide to check Iconiq out!

TL;DR: Iconiq and Chef Kawai create amazing culinary experiences that seamless blend French bistro et al food with Japanese influence (ex. Ikura instead of traditional caviar, and even Shoyu ice cream). The view of downtown is impeccable, but make sure you reserve a view table. The service is amazingly run. Highly recommend their special events with set course menu. My wife and I love iconiq, especially their special events. We first discovered the restaurant in 2022. Their normal service allows you to order ala carte. Reservations via phone or Resy; be sure you reserve a table with a view. The menu is always rotating to include seasonal ingredients. The highlights have been their steak dishes (amazingly cooked steak over mashed potato and vegetables), risotto, seasonal soups, and their shoyu (soy sauce) ice cream. More immaculate are their special events. Every month or so, they host a special dinner event with a set course costing $100-$150. There is usually 4 courses with an optional add-on course featuring truffle, foie gras, or some other delicacy. We have gone to 4+ events and they never disappoint. The set menu is always fresh and innovative. Even when the fusion of French and Japanese isn't to your taste, the ingredients themselves are prepared and cooked perfectly. This makes it a safe culinary experience, since you can always count on the food itself being well cooked. Chef Kawai is the main star at this place. He's gracious and checks in on his guests. He has a great front of house crew as well: very prompt and gracious service, including the standard silverware changes between courses. I highly recommend you check out iconiq the next time you're in Seattle!! And definitely try and book during sunset.

We had an amazing experience at Iconiq! The restaurant is intimate and cozy. The food was fantastic and it was such a special experience talking with Chef Kawai about his food creations! Favorites included the lamb, steak, and salmon dishes, along with the peach melba, and soy sauce ice cream! We enjoyed all the desserts while watching the sunset, and will definitely be back to try his different seasonal menus!

There is what a restaurant experience should be - amazing food, chef interaction, great wine pairing, amazing view. A little gem in Mt. Baker and totally worth checking out. Date night? You found the spot! Don't miss out!

Recently had an amazing meal at Iconiq. The dining room is pretty and relaxed with great views of the city. The selection of wines and sakes was hard to pick from as there were so many terrific choices. The stand-out was the amazing food coupled with outstanding service including chef who is kind, friendly and generous. We had a delicious scallop confit on couscous appetizer, asparagus in white miso with endive and burrata appetizer, fantastic black cod and foie gras over risotto mains followed up by a strawberry blancmange as well as soy ice cream desserts. What a memorable experience!

Just wow. This was one of the best dishes I've ever had at a restaurant! The foie gras risotto dish is an absolute must. The service was excellent we stayed for a long time just chatting. At night time there is a beautiful view of the city! The soy sauce ice cream was fun to try even if you don't like it -- such a great experience I can't recommend this place enough!

Yogurt Blankmange with Rhubarb & Strawberries

This place is amazing! The food is excellent - beautiful presentation and mouth wateringly good. The owner was so gracious and hospitable. The view of the city was unexpected and beautiful. This was the perfect place for a double date (and would be for regular date, families). Very chill but elevated vibe.

Overall experience was very underwhelming. We arrived for a 7pm seating and there were dishes that were not available already. It left us with mostly only risotto dishes and a steak dish. I had reserved a window seating and was seated next to the window of walls but no window. This was a huge disappointment since it was a special occasion and the ambiance was an important piece of it. When we asked for recommendations, the waiter simply told us everything was good. We ordered all of the risottos amongst the table. Overall none stood out that much. One risotto was undercooked and another very mushy and overcooked. Certainly not the experience you would expect for the price. Would not recommend or return.

How did it take me so long to finally visit Iconiq? It's been on my Yelp "restaurants to try" collection list for quite some time. A friend and I were able to get a reservation and visit on a recent rainy, windy Seattle evening. The city lights view from the windows was very pretty, but I'd love to see it again on a clear day. We had an early reservation and were the first table sat for the evening. After ordering a beverage and our meals, we were treated to an amuse bouche of mushroom soup that was really tasty. We both started our meals with the truffle egg (delicious). I ordered the scallops with Brussels sprouts and squash pasta and my friend had the iberico pork with polenta. Both were really yummy but I would have appreciated more than two scallops for the price ($34 + 30% tax/tip = $44). We were also disappointed that there was only one white and one red wine available by the glass. They were nice wines but a bit of variety would be good. Service was friendly, the food tasted oh so good, the views were amazing, and street parking was easy to find. I'll definitely be returning for another meal!

Nice spot in the neighborhood for an intimate, upscale dinner. The space is small, so plan to make reservations. Time it so you can see the sunset from the gorgeous views. In regards to the actual meal, while the food we received was tasty, nothing blew me away. For the price, I was left wanting more flavor and interesting dishes personally.

My new favorite cozy, romantic dining spot. French/Italian/Japanese fusion takes the subtle flavors from each culture to create unique gastronomic experiences. Pair yazu with creme fraiche or ponzu into a tomato demi glace, and you will feel as though you've traveled halfway around the world only to find yourself at home. Tempura black cod over risotto or mixed greens with goat cheese and shiso are Iconiq's version of comfort food. All of this in a Mount Baker location with a view that is an escape from the denizens of the hoity-toity downtown crowd. I'm only sharing this now, more than a year after discovering it, just so I could savor this spot before the Yelp masses descended. These days, just be sure to make a reservation.

Foie gras risotto - MUST GET if you are into creamy, fatty food
    Maggie L.

Steak? Yes! Truffle?? Yass!! Foie gras?? Abso-fu*kin'-lutely!! Have you had that dining experience where one dish seal the deal and convinced you to come back again, after taking the first bite?? For me, that dish is the Foie Gras Risotto. I seldom describe any food as "out of this world", but this dish may be as close to that as one can get. I was worried the risotto would be too rich when paired with the foie gras, but to my surprise, both the taste and texture worked perfectly. The miso sauce on the foie gras and the wine sauce over the risotto are both a little sweet, which helps to balance the fattiness of the dish. The Prime Rib Filet Mignon was "one of the best steak" he's had this year, according to my husband. We both enjoyed the fried sweetbread on top and the foie gras butter gnocchi too! The Burgundy Truffle Ice Cream was a wonderful way to wrap up the meal. The two appetizers (pork belly confit and cauliflower trio) were mediocre. I'd recommend ordering 3 entrees instead! We also got a free mushroom soup sampler not too long after seated. Service was attentive but not overbearing. We were given the wrong appetizer dish (I should have just eaten it xp right?). The waiter took it back right away and apologized for the mistake. Overall, good dining experience. The view outside the tables next to the window seems great, though you'd have to arrive when they open to see anything in the winter.

The cafe was busy at the time and my friends and I had to sit outside while eating our pastries. I got their Almond Croissant, Eclair Espresso, and Au Jardin. Almond Croissant - Light, fragrant, and fluffy. The flavor itself was buttery, not too sweet, and was well balanced with the almonds sprinkled all over it. Would get it again. (8.5/10) Eclair Espresso - Had a nice espresso flavor to it along with the creamy filling. (8/10) Au Jardin - Tastes just as it looks, like a different form of pizza but with zucchinis. It wasn't bad but I wouldn't get it again (7/10)
