I don't live in NY, but I produced a Harry Potter event in NY a few years ago and lived up there for about half a year. For those who are very indecisive, you might want to add a couple of extra minutes to study the options. I ordered the mac & cheese burger ($17.99) since it was a more unique burger offering. I-84 burgers are 1/2 pounders consisting of a short rib brisket and chuck blend, in a grilled bun. I selected salad for my side, and I was pleased that it came out first since I was quite hungry. Part of my curiosity was reading on the menu how their mac & cheese was "famous" and used a three cheese combo. Well, the mac & cheese did not disappoint. Much of it had fallen off the burger but no matter. It had a great gooey but smooth texture and was fantastically cheesy. Look for the mac & cheese section on the jumbo menu for more offerings. I live in NYC, and about 4 -5 times a year I go upstate to spend weekends with my relatives. Each time we ALWAYS go to the I-84 diner, it's our go to - the last two times we ate here the service was a bit spotty. The last two times they got my order wrong, what I ordered was the simplest thing one could order. I ordered a grilled cheese with bacon on whole wheat bread with a side of fries. When the waitress bought our food to the table she handed me a grilled cheese with no bacon. I mentioned it to her and she said she would bring a side of bacon to the table which takes away from the experience of actually eating a grilled cheese with bacon. I was annoyed to say the least as I tried to put some of the bacon in between the bread with no success. This past Saturday we went to the I-84 diner like we always do, I ordered the same thing grilled cheese with bacon on whole wheat bread and received a grilled cheese with bacon this time (I give them points for actually including the bacon in the sandwich) but it was on Texas toast. I mean, really? How hard is it to make a grilled cheese sandwich the way one asks for it? I even thought about it for a sec, and asked my brother - "I did say whole wheat bread right"? And he said "yes you did". I didn't mention it the waitress this last time, as I was fearful to have it sent back and re-made again, I'm not a fan of sending food back. It's a shame because the food is good, the portions are generous, the menu is extensive. But I told my brother let's try another diner the next time I visit. read more

Came here withy my brothers and dad on the day after Black Friday. We found the staff to be friendly, the service to be quick, and the food was fresh and delicious. My dad was impressed with the salad with all the different mixed greens (not just romaine), my brother wished his Nutella waffle was just a tad more cooked, and I loved my buffalo chicken wrap! I subbed ranch for blue cheese and was impressed with the crunchy chicken and the cooked wrap. If this was closer to home, I would absolutely come back! read more

Comfortable diner off of 84 with fantastic service and a very friendly ambience. You're seated almost immediately and given a warm welcome from your hostess. I would advise against ordering one or two of the appetizers or breakfast as they are massively proportioned so you're better off sharing with whatever you plan on getting. I was on a bus tour and staying at a motel next door. The bus dropped us off We were going to just order something to go and take it back to our room, but the host was so congenial, saying Oh no! It will be better if you eat here, so we stayed. We each ordered a quesadilla and did not regret staying to eat it fresh off the grill. They were stuffed full of chicken/steak and really tasty with guac and sour cream to top it off. Stopped here on a recent trip, as it was late and not much else was open on I84. Checked reviews before hand and they looked good. Didn't disappoint. Service was good, food was good, place was clean and well maintained. The only negative was the prices were on the high side. Of course this is shortly after tariffs so we'll assume that's the cause. The first thing that struck me was the chrome facade was so shiny. As I entered the diner through a hallway leading up to the main floor, it was apparent that this place is kept sparkling clean. That made me know I was in for a treat. I have eaten here over the past week both for dinner and for breakfast. Good food, large portions and plenty of old time diner food and desserts. My girlfriend and I were to meet a mutual girlfriend of hours at another restaurant when she cancelled at the last minute. So we decided to eat out at a closer restaurant. She had a Belgian Waffle and I had a Chicken Gyro with chicken soup. We both had a diet soda. We both loved our meals. She has to eat soft foods due to having a lot of dental work and I am on a strict low fat, sugar-free, low carb and low salt diet. I had gone months earlier to celebrate a good checkup at an oral surgeon next door, having had an omelet and coffee, also excellent. The ambience is very relaxed, and immaculate. The restrooms are very clean. Next time, when we get together with our mutual girlfriend, all three of us are coming here instead of going to the restaurant she originally suggested. Great highway break. After a long drive a nice cold Modelo and a sandwich were in order. Great menu choices. The gyro was hefty and delicious, lots of tasty lamb. The huge portion of clam strips tasted fresh, loads of flavor not overbattered. Its display case full of cakes & sweets was enticing though we were too full to partake. Friendly service and diner-sized generous portions, highly recommended. We had dinner at the 84 Diner again last night. Our fantastic server was Vinny. I never met Mr. Vinny before but we were all very impressed with his friendliness, quick service, and professionalism! We enjoyed the food, and I am slowly working my way through their menu. The meals at the 84 Diner never disappoint. They also keep everything so clean unlike other places. We have been here twice. Both times it's been so extremely clean. WOW I was impressed no cobwebs or dust dangling from the ceiling as you see in many restaurants. Our waitress a small mature lady who had a beautiful accent and was very attentive to our table. My two companions weren't very impressed with their plates. I was ok with my gyro. The meat was flavorful and a nice portion. The sauce was also very creamy and delicious. Truly Greek flavor! On our second try we had a different waitress, mature slender woman. She was very friendly with her usual customers. We ordered breakfast, Scottish Benedict would've been better if the corn beef wasn't out of a can. The hollandaise sauce needed to be much more lemony and thinner. The poached eggs were a tad too cooked so I didn't get a drip out of the yolk. We ordered a cannoli French toast platter and that was pretty good. The omelette lacked seasoning and once again eggs were over cooked. The last order was chicken and waffles. The chicken was a bit dry and had a bones. Waffles were crispy. I do recommend this place although the two times haven't been all that great. There aren't many other options near by. It exceeded my expectations for a Diner in terms of quality and experience. Our waiter, Michael, was superb. He took great care of us.... funny guy. But the amount of food they give you for the price is unbelievable. I had to loose a few notches on my belt. We ended up taking half of our meals home. I knew about this diner 10 years before I moved to the area (and that was over 40 years ago). It definitely has staying power, which is impressive considering how many other diners in the Mid-Hudson Valley are owned by "diner families." I was at a function at one of the nearby hotels, and this was a convenient spot for a group of us to go for a later Saturday evening dinner. We got there after peak hours, so there was no problem getting a table. But the earlier diners were still wrapping up, so our waitress wasn't really able to attend to us immediately. Once the other customers were out, we received great service. Unfortunately, being there later in the evening, they were also already out of some food and drink items, especially one of the evening specials I had wanted to try, and in fact our waitress had to come back so that we could re-order. I instead went with another evening special, a Greek Platter, featuring smaller portions of moussaka (theirs uses a potato base), pastitsio, spanakopita, and stuffed grape leaves. Of these, the spanakopita was my favorite, with its rich, strong, flavor. The moussaka was very light on meat, and the pastitsio was really hot in the center, so I'm not sure whether it was cut from a fresh batch or microwaved. These were both a bit too filling. The salads, both as entrees and the smaller salads (or a soup) you could get with a meal were simple (lettuce, thinly sliced cucumber, grape tomatoes, red onion) but very well prepared and presented, except that some at my table asked to hold the red onions on the salad, and they still came out with them. Everyone was satisfied with their meal, but I can't say any of us were wowed by them. We were, however, wowed by all the desserts in the case at the front of the restaurant. You should definitely save room for these if you can, or maybe even get a few slices to take home with you. read more

I have never had a ruder server, or bewildered hostess in my life. A friend and myself met there for breakfast. As we were finishing our food, we wanted more coffee. After no one came over for almost 20 minutes, a server was walking by and I asked if we could have our cups refilled. She rudely said "She'll get to it when she gets to it!" and kept on walking. We were astounded to hear this response, especially since our booth was next to the hostess station and was obviously overheard. Another 20 minutes went by and I asked the hostess could we have a refill. I have been stopping by this diner for over 40 years and will never, ever walk through their doors again. We had been to 84 diner many years and and it was ...meh...especially considering 2 excellent choices near by (Yankee Clipper and Red Line) Enough time has passed that it worth a revisit. The platter has 3 eggs, sausage, peppers, onions & cheese - a side of hash brown potatoes (extra crispy for me) and a ladle of sausage gravy over the top. It was delicious! But heart attack city.
