Great Southern fare! The Lambo's Gumbo was a delicious medley of Louisiana flavors and had a slight kick. The Chicken Mini Sliders (4 total) were a fusion of savory and sweet between biscuits that were wonderfully rich. Easily recommend!

Hunters might be my new favorite Southie spot! We were able to walk in at around 2 on a Sunday. We had the mini waffles, burnt end hash, and southern skillet. Incredible food. All of it was so good and not a bite was left on our plates. Service was attentive and quick. Atmosphere is very charming, cozy cabin vibe. Live music was just starting up as we were leaving. I will for sure be back!

I was a bit disappointed with my reservation, which, by the way, I highly recommend. My Valentine and I made reservations a week ago. We walked in and it was packed with a one man band, who was great but it was sooooo loud! They took us over to the window, looking out at the hardware store. It was like a little space to have more people. We were on stools. Not looking at each other. I went to the hostess and told her our situation. She gave us a few minutes then said that she had a table by the one man band. We didn't mind because it was so loud anywhere you sat. Lots of younger people. Which we didn't mind either. It is a fun place. We ordered drinks with an appetizer, Cowboy Steak. So tender and tasty!!! After a few more drinks, we decided to order our meals. It's 5:30 at this point. We didn't truly get seated until 4:30. The waitress said she had to check if we could order because with reservation seating, they give you 90 minutes? She worked it out so that we could stay. My Valentine ordered Gumbo...he loved it! I got chicken fried steak (ribeye) and it was delicious along with country mashed potatoes. It's not cheap but worth it. Parking is a bit tough. But all in all, it was about the food which I highly recommend.

The southern cooking and hospitality was really refreshing while visiting Boston for the first time. My bartender was pleasant and gave great reviews for all the dishes I requested. I also had two drinks and they were great. I would recommend this place to others when in town

Chicken & dumplings and HFC bowl

First time at Hunters and really enjoyed it. The food was amazing 10/10. Everything was insanely flavorful and could tell how much thought goes into every dish. We got the kale salad, biscuits, Mac and cheese, chicken and dumplings, and HFC bowl. No notes, still dreaming about the Mac and cheese and biscuits. Fun vibe, love that you can see the chefs cook while you eat. Was able to reserve a table and service was fast. Super crowded bar on a Saturday night and very loud music/ambiance but fun people watching

The food at Hunter's Kitchen & Bar is amazing!! Everything I ate was a 10/10. We found this place on a whim while in Boston for a weekend. The place itself is very popular so I highly recommend making a reservation. FYI there is a $40 hold placed on your credit card to book a reservation. If you no show or cancel within 24 hours they will charge you. We had a reservation but we ended up sitting at the bar so we wouldn't have to wait. We started off with the fried pickles and the everything bagel biscuit bites. The butter they put on these biscuits is out of this world! The shrimp and grits were also another highlight of the day! This was probably the best shrimp and grits I've ever had. Overall, I was not disappointed with the food. However I am deducting 1 star because the atmosphere is pretty loud and gives college bar vibes, which isn't a bad thing, but does make it hard to enjoy a meal.

Brisket and hash

The meal I had was so delicious that I couldn't give this place anything less than five stars. The brisket and hash for brunch was a 10/10 packed with flavor and a generous size. The everything bagel biscuits were really good I loved the honey butter. The inside of this place is cozy and was perfect for the holiday spirit. The service wasn't bad but not the best didn't feel friendly but the food came out quick and there were no issues. Would definitely come back.

Came here for my birthday on April 1, 2023 and let me tell ya, the line was super long. It was my first time coming there but we had reservations for 12 but the parking situation was horrible but no fault to the restaurant. Took some of my family 30 min to find parking. So back to Hunters, I would have to say this isn't a kid friendly place. Our table for 12 was next to the fireplace and speakers which sucked but like I said I can't blame them for that. The service was amazing and so was the food. I also love country music so it didn't bother me lol. Now lets review the food: Popcorn chicken- This was a hit for the kids, very moist chicken and super good Chicken & Waffles- The chicken again was cooked to perfection and seasoned very well but the waffles was out of this world. Super tasty Gumbo- This was the highlight for me! This bad boy right here was amazing. The spice was perfect as well. I'll be back just without the kiddo next time..

Award winning gumbo, 6-cheese mac, hand made cheddar biscuit brisket sliders. Need I say more? Inside is reminiscent of stepping into a cozy lodge which enhances the amazing experience.

Packed with college kids on Saturday nights for games

Saturday night during college football season? Bad idea to come to Hunter's for dinner. I wanted to go to South Boston to meander around, eat at Fat Baby, and go bowling. My mother wanted southern food, so we headed to Hunter's instead. Since we had a filling lunch we ordered a few smaller plates: Hushpuppies, BBQ Ribs, and Lambo's Gumbo. The hushpuppies are big, too big really, and they're served on a bed of whipped butter. Half a cup of butter would have been too much butter for these things, but I think they served them on more than that. The pumpkin spice flavor in the butter was interesting, but I would have preferred a small plate with 6-8 smaller hushpuppies with a little spicy remoulade or something more snacky. But overall they tasted fine and despite their large size they were cooked through. The ribs were good, tender enough and all that, but they were missing something I couldn't quite put my finger on that makes good ribs so delicious. You know the ones I mean- can't stop eating them, you go a little caveman on them and lick your fingers after for just a little more of those delicious ribs. The ribs at Hunter's? No. The menu labled the gumbo as the signature dish and Google informed me that this was a Beat Bobby Flay winning dish. Shrimp, crab, andouille sausage, and Charleston rice sounded good and I was curious. Was it good? Sure, best dish of the three we ordered. The seafood was tender, the gumbo was flavorful, the rice was nice. But it was also spicy which the menu doesn't say, but I suppose you should just assume. Hours later I remembered why eating spicy gumbo on vacation isn't always the right move for me. I should have learned this after my trip to New Orleans, but I am a sucker for all carbs. I was happy with my choice, for a bit anyway. But I will say if you are like me- order the gumbo but have a pepto chaser. This trip was in late September and the menu on their website looks different now, so perhaps with that change things have improved. But a restaurant is more than just its food, so I'll also add the atmosphere was awful. The decor provides a certain ambiance that makes it seem like a nice place for dinner, but it's just not. Too loud for conversation, too many college age kids in here drinking and not eating, and they have zero sense of personal space. Sitting at our table for two near the bar we were jostled by frat boys the entire meal. They'd apologize and then do it again. Our server disappeared after dropping off the food and didn't come back the rest of the time until it was time for the check. Which we asked for and then waited, and waited, and continued to wait for. Was the place busy? Kind of, though those of us at tables were the minority. Ruining your guests dining experience by overfilling the bar area is a bad idea. Maybe there's a better time of the week to go for a nice dinner, but it sure wasn't the night I went.

They were the dark horse that I never would have thought about ordering normally. Biscuits for dinner? Eh. But they were delicious and lighter than expected and the pimento cheese I could have ate by the spoonfuls. The oysters were clean and delicious. Everything you hope to have from Northeast oysters especially being from Texas where most of the places here serve Gulf oysters that don't even come close to comparing. I could have drank the mignonette. The pimento mac n cheese was on point and flavorful (and again that pimento cheese, yum). The wagyu burgers were so good. The burger was tender and flavorful, the bread was soft and light and slightly sweet, and the onion ring added a great texture to the mix. Think of a amped up western burger. The ambiance was a cool vibe yet a home feel. We were seated quickly but it took awhile for anyone to acknowledge us. Service was good once it started and the food came out quickly. If we ever make it back to Boston, it will definitely be on our list to revisit. Great late dinner spot. Simple foods done right. (Oh, and the drinks were delicious. I wanted to try them all. Mine tasted exactly like an apple pie.)

Second: the staff deserves a medal. Not only were they friendly and efficient, but they also went above and beyond splitting checks for all 11 people individually without making us feel like we'd committed a felony. Anyone who has ever dined with a large group knows this alone is a five-star act of heroism. The ambiance was fun, energetic, and just the right amount of spunky. It felt lively without being overwhelming, the kind of place where you immediately relax and accidentally stay longer than planned. And finally, the soundtrack. Ribs perfect, glad they were meaty pieces and not scrawny bones. Entrees: (and yes I tried all!) I am a steak fiend and was expecting more from the pallet but it was just eh OK. Salmon was dry and bland wish it was paired with a sauce and side dish but it was a big portion of just rice and fish. The BEST dish was the creole pasta and the two piece. I was not expecting that two piece to be the entire fowl! It was huge and tasty, not dry, biscuit was sweet and moist ! But the entrees are a good portion ! Ambience: Chic music lounge. Atmosphere is nice. It's a small/tight place, the pictures make it look bigger. We were a party of 6, sat at a booth. So some will have their back towards the stage but there's a tv screen of live view. Service: waitress was nice/attentive until it got later. Salty Pig Pizza: A pizza with the same name as the restaurant! Who was the genius who came up with the idea of salted pig and beer caramel? It's brilliant! The salted pork appears to include Prosciutto di Parma from Langirano, Prosciutto Cotto, and Salcissia. Baking rendered the prosciutto's fat, which blends with the caramel to create a beautiful golden syrup that flows across the pizza's surface. The prosciutto was savory, oily, and tender; the minced salcissia retains its coarse texture and rich meaty aroma; the caramel was sweet and mellow with a honey-like sweetness, forming the top, middle, and base notes respectively. The arugula was slightly warmed, losing its astringent and raw taste while maintaining its crisp texture, helped to cut through the richness together with the Parmesan cheese powder. The crust was crispy, while the inside the dough was soft and chewy. The cooking time and seasoning were all just right, and the restaurant's proud wooden oven added a charming smoky flavor. Affogato: I had high expectations, but it was just okay. The espresso was too sour, and the vanilla ice cream couldn't balance it out. The almond biscuits had an overpowering almond flavor, and the flavor of plant-based protein was terrible! (Oh, this should have been a plus...)

I got the mixed chicken plate with Mac n cheese and candied yams. The chicken was very good--fried very well with great seasoning, a crispy exterior, and juicy interior. The Mac was very gooey and cheesy. And the yams were excellent as well. I thought the texture of the yams was near perfect--not too hard but not too soft and mushy either. Also not overly sweet. I also felt like the price was very fair. A lot of times, similar entrees can cost near $30, but this was just over $20 which was super reasonable especially for the quality. The staff was very kind and friendly as well. Keep in mind that the interior is quite small, so plan ahead on whether you're going to eat inside or take it to go. But overall I'd recommend this to anyone in the area, and I'd love to go back!

Let's start with the "Jamaican" patties. These were not patties. They were empanada-style, lacking the flaky crust, seasoning, and depth you expect from a true Jamaican beef or chicken patty. At $5 each, that's not just disappointing--it feels misleading. Then the soul food. This is where it really fell apart. The chicken was dry, under-seasoned, and surprisingly small--more like an afterthought than a centerpiece. Soul food should be rich, flavorful, and comforting. This wasn't! The greens were another miss. No depth, no richness, and completely lacking the traditional pot liquor that gives them their signature flavor. It felt like a stripped-down version of what should be a staple dish. The only bright spot was the candied yams--they actually had flavor and were enjoyable. What's frustrating is the gap between reputation and experience. When a place has awards and hype, you expect authenticity, quality, and consistency. This didn't deliver on any of that. Overall, I wouldn't return. There are too many places doing this food the right way to spend money here again.
