For months I've been watching the pizza oven at work and noticed the garden and chicken coops as I whizzed by on bus or by car. It was always an intriguing topic with my bus mates. Later we saw the sign go up and I definitely wanted to know what this place was about. It's a compact spot off Rainier. You walk right into a black board menu with their pizza offerings. They also have an arugula salad and some beer, wine, and cider for alcohol, as well as non-alcoholic drinks. There is seating for about 20, no tables inside, just counter space. The outside has picnic benches with umbrellas, and I'm sure it's the place to be when the weather allows it. They offer 10 varieties of pizza, and all look like they're worth sampling. First off we came on Saturday night, at 8...and it's Happy Hour from 8-9! YAY! The happy hour is for the $3 pints and $11 pitchers and $5 Margherita pizza. If I recall, there were 4 rotating taps, and we chose a pitcher of the Fremont ale. We were famished so we each ordered a pie. We sat at the counter space by the window, and it was sooo cool watching them make the pizza from scratch. I had the Whole Hog, which had prosciutto, bacon, and pulled pork; my husband had the Prosciutto, egg and arugula. And we were quiet from the moment the pizzas were brought out. I have to say we enjoyed both pizzas, but seriously, the prosciutto, egg and arugula pizza was sooo damn good! Biting into the pizza where the egg yolk melted in your mouth was so heavenly. I visited Humble Pie for the first time for the Seattle Restaurant Week 2020 lunch deal. For just $20, we got a large pizza, small salad, and two sodas. More than enough food for 2 adults. Their sustainable, wood-fired Whole Hog pizza is pretty good. I'd say a 4/5. It has mozzarella, bacon, prosciutto, and deliciously smoky pulled pork. And don't you underestimate this salad from a pizza joint! Fresh arugula, cherry tomatoes, kalamata olives, pickled onions, and chevre. A nice complement to the pizza. I'd rate it 5/5. For sodas, you can choose between Mexican Coke or different flavors of San Pellegrino, so definitely a step above your average soda. We got ours as takeout, but they also have a cute outdoor patio garden if you want to enjoy your pizza right there. Hands down the best pizza happy hour in Seattle! I come here often on warm sunny days after work with a buddy just for this. Don't let the look of this pizza joint fool you! Tables and seating are all outdoors so dress warmly if you plan to eat there on a cold day! There are some heaters there too so don't worry too much. There's also a chicken coop there as well, cute distraction if you brought kids along. Street parking is plentiful which makes the decision to go there even easier! I went with a few friends and got the vegan lil mamas peppers pizza with field roast sausage. One friend got a Margherita pizza and another got a salad with chicken sausage. They had a chicken coop on the patio, but I don't know that that's where it came from... We all enjoyed the food we got and had really no complaints on that front. Humble Pie is so so so so underrated!! Maybe it's because their hidden in the outskirts of Chinatown, in this cute little corner. Extreme barnhouse vibes here, they have a chicken coop right where you enter! I love it! The pies here are one of my favorites in Seattle. The crust is light, fluffy with little char bits to increase that depth of flavor. The tomato sauce is beauty in simplicity. I swear it tastes as if they just picked the tomatoes off the vine and served it to ya! It's natural essence works harmoniously with their crust! Our favorite pie to get here is the whole hog (?) why? The pork is perfectly smoked, not too salty and everything works just amazing together. I came here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon with a friend. We got there right when the gates opened and there were plenty of tables open throughout our lunch. Parking was also a breeze - tons of street spots available within view of the restaurant. All the tables are either large picnic tables or one sided bench tables so you can dine in a large group or solo at ease. You order at the window (masks required as of July 2021), they bring your order to you, and then you bus your own table before you leave. Prices are very reasonable. We split one pizza for two people and it was the perfect amount of food. We went specifically to try Humble Pie's apple pizza because come on, of course we have to try that! I didn't really know what to expect and was surprised by how much I liked it. It's definitely worth trying at least once. It gave me appetizer/dessert vibes, probably because there's no red sauce and I think they use a different cheese than the standard pizza mozz. Apples were great but bites with just walnut were only okay. I want to come again and try one of their red sauce pizzas! Highlight of the lunch was when the chickens stepped out of their coop around 12:45. They're so cute! Highly recommend even if you just come to bird watch. I bet kids would have fun with that too. One of my friends wanted to show me this restaurant, and it was such a unique and cool experience. It's built into what looks like a beer garden with a small shed for the cooks. It has that Instagram-friendly, hipster aesthetic that matches exactly what you imagine when you see it online. Lots of young adults are sitting at outdoor tables, and on a warm summer afternoon or evening would hit the spot. The shed where the staff are located and cooks is neat because you can see the pizza being made. The pizza options were all creative and well made. Even a cheese pizza here would be tiers above the quality of regular cheese pizza anywhere else. I did take out and honestly, I wish I stayed to enjoy the environment created here. read more

Humble Pie is an interesting pizza place for sure. I came with a group of friends during Seattle Pizza Week and we were able to try their fall seasonal pizza. The fall seasonal pizza used a butternut squash based with goat cheese and truffle oil seasoned on top. The pizza was a unique take on a vegetarian pizza, but I definitely felt that the taste was very conflicting with the butternut squash and the goat cheese. The crust was extremely fluffy and super light. The pizza did take a little longer than expected to make, but the pizza was definitely made fresh. Called to see if they would make a pizza with garlic, olive oil, basil, and mozzarella...basically a Margherita pizza with no tomato sauce and sub olive oil and garlic. They said the owner does not do custom pies and would not be willing to make substitutions, even though I was willing to pay for the substitution. I told the person that answered the phone that I would like to give my feedback to the owner which was that I didn't purchase a pizza from them tonight because of the inflexibility and because it is such a basic substitution...no tomato sauce, add garlic olive oil. The person on the phone told me that Dominos was just down the street. This was a shock and so rude when all I was trying to do was to provide feedback to the owner. This place has been on my to go list for a bit now. Super hipster vibe - solar powered, locally sourced ingredients many of them organic with a chicken coop onsite for organic fresh eggs to boot. All signs pointed at a must try. The menu has some pretty simple pies with a little bit of room for customization. Looking for a quick snack, we called in to order two pies for pick up. It was about 7p and half of the things we wanted was already sold out! Basil for the margarita pizza? Nope, sorry. Mushrooms? Nope. Eggplant? Sorry. After a bit of a back and forth with the person on the phone we finally had our pizzas ordered. 20 minutes they said - sure. We got there about 25 minutes after our order was placed and was informed that it wasn't ready yet. Setting the scene it was still about 730p, a good hour and a half left before they were closed. They were relatively busy with a good crowd with more people coming to eat. From the front of the line I could see that there were three workers, two making pizzas and the other working the register and phones. While I waited I watched as the two in the back nonchalantly make pizzas and the front guy managing the register and the phones. My annoyance began to grow as I saw a line of people forming behind me, a woman standing to my right waiting for at least 15 minutes for salad and register dude completely ignoring us while he took phone calls. Call after call he continued to take orders while the physical customers were completely ignored. All the workers were seemingly unbothered by the fact that people were slowly losing their patience. In addition to that, I could see him rummaging around doing random tasks - again completely ignoring us. At one point one of the back workers finally told him to stop taking calls altogether and focus on the people in line.. No words. I would have thought it be common sense.. I must have waited a second time in that line for 30 minutes before I stuck my head in the window asking for my pizzas. Turns out my pizzas had been ready and waiting for me.. And even though I was clearly standing there waiting for it he didn't think to hand them off to me. Pizza was fine. Honestly I don't even remember what they tasted like I was so annoyed by the entire situation, it wasn't bad and it wasn't a stand out for me. And even though they had been kept in the warmer I couldn't help but think that it would've been more delicious had they been given to me as soon as they were ready. I love the concept here, but likely will not be returning. This is really quite a find. For some reason I was attracted to it bass on yelp reviews and spent $8 on an uber to get here. What price for possibly great food? I was not disappointed. We love organic and are pizza lovers, we had high hopes for this humble pie, but you can't enjoy a pizza without any sauce, cheese, toppings or flavor, super bland. Strange enough they have a good rating, no idea why. You can even tell by their own photos that it looks like the pizzas have barely any cheese or sauce or toppings, I thought the photos were lying and took a chance but they weren't lying. I came here on a Saturday at opening and there were several other groups who were waiting too. I guess it makes sense people are ready for lunch at noon! Service is pretty much self serve here, so you order at the counter, then get your own plates, water, pepper flakes, etc. Given the casual spot, prices are a bit higher than expected - pizzas range from $13-16. We got two pizzas and a small salad for three of us, and had half a pizza left. The pizzas are big, and big slices too - one pizza was six slices! So in that sense, it's worth it. The toppings were pretty sparse though, especially on the "whole hog," which was the biggest disappointment. It was good, and maybe worth it for the size, but I prefer more toppings or at least more cheese. The thin crusted pizzas just seemed so empty. The wood fired flavor was good though, but that should be a given. Overall, cute place to dine outdoors (with a chicken coop too!), but not a place I'd suggest visiting again. This used to be a place I recommend to visitors. My memory of it was perfect crust and great tasting toppings at reasonable prices. Not anymore. The crust was so burnt you can use it to draw on the cardboard. Barely any toppings on a $24 pizza. On top of that it's a complete self-serve place where you get your own cups and napkins, with signs to clean your own table, where the only "service" is pizza handed over the counter, that defaults to 25% tip. While nothing more than a wood shack with a brick pizza oven, a few picnic tables and a chicken coop, Humble Pie is baking up some amazing pizza. Pizzas range from $9-$15 and are made with really nice, quality ingredients. Good selection of vegetarian pizzas and meat pizzas. The crust is nice and chewy, with a little char. I don't think you can go wrong here, but I liked the Whole Hog with prosciutto, bacon, pulled pork and the Apple Spiced Walnut with Beecher's. Pizzas are 12" which is perfect size for one, with a slice or two left over for later. This place is small with room for around 6-8 people inside the shack.
