Talk about your well kept secret or hidden gem. As a stranger to this part of Texas, we found Hud's totally by accident. Not only were the prices friendly but the food ordered was quite good. The wife and I had breakfast burritos with extra bacon plus some great iced tea. The food was tasty and served hot, their house salsa had a great taste and just enough heat to keep things interesting. Not only was the food tasty, the service was quick and employees were friendly. The only sad thing really is, Hud's is not back home and we don't get here very often. If you have not tried this place yet you really should consider doing so. Cheers! read more

I first noticed this place last summer and actually tried to go to it once but naturally I hit when they were on vacation, maybe in August? I meant come back but I'm not really a burger eater so I just never made it. Finally the other day I couldn't decide where to go eat but I knew I wanted to eat cheap so I decided to try this place out. I was actually pretty impressed. It's just fast food but they serve breakfast sandwiches all day long, which is what I got even though it was dinner time. They have a breakfast plate also but for some reason they stop serving it at some point and I forgot to ask what time. I also got a cherry limeade because everybody else was ranting and raving about them. I have to admit, it was pretty darn good and they even have a diet version which is what I ordered. I got the large size because I expected to like it and was also impressed that it included a refill even though I hadn't drunk that much out of it. Every so often I spend a little more on a meal so I like to cut back the next time out and this will be a great place to add to my rotation when I want to spend under $10 total. I think my bill was actually under $6 since I didn't get any sides. Be aware that you order at the counter when you first walk in and then you step to the back of the place, where the tables are, to a different window to pick up your order when they call your number. I understand from another reviewer that an employee was talking about some elderly customers who didn't understand that system, saying unkind things behind their backs and I won't patronize a place that is rude to customers so I will be watching them when I go in. I always loved Huds. I Would go here regularly for their breakfast burritos. But I think I'm done. The staff don't wear masks even though there is a state mandate. Any business that doesn't take simple steps to protect their staff and their customers is not a place I plan to visit. It makes me question their hygiene overall. Meh. Blah. Ugh. I've tried Hud's twice now. I won't try again. The first time, I ordered a double burger with cheese & tater tots. The girl at the register gave me a large sweet tea, too. I thought "How nice? Complimentary tea!" The burger was a burger. Nothing more spectacular than you'd find at a food truck at one of those sketchy traveling fairs. The tater tots were, well, they were tater tots. ...and they charged me for the tea that I didn't order. Oh, well. Move on... Today, I tried their cheesesteak sandwich. I asked them to "hold the mayo" which apparently means "slather my pitiful sandwich in extra mayo." Needless to say, I didn't enjoy it. You just can't un-mayonnaise something. The only reason I am rating 1 star...is because their cherry limeades are actually good. The lady at the drive thru cut off our order and didn't let us finish. She opens the window and continues talking to her friends and ignores the fact that we had more to add on to the order. Rudest service EVER! Do not recommend. Save your money and go to sonic instead tbh. UPDATE: looked at my recipe and they charged me $2 extra just for adding cheese and chili to my CHILI AND CHEESE FRIES!! Like what?? This review has nothing to do with the food. The food is great. I have gone there for many years and enjoy the food. However unless something changes I will not be back. The staff is working unmasked during COVID. Our hospitals are being over run. I want to support local restaurants but if you cannot support the medical staff then I cannot support you. For the life of me, I cannot understand why people love this place. Granted, I haven't ordered everything on the menu, so maybe I'm missing something? I first heard about this place because friends of mine were getting their breakfast burritos every morning. I finally decided one day that I had to give this place a try. I ordered a breakfast burrito with sausage and an order of hash browns and a cherry limeade to wash it down. First complaint - the food takes a long time! Everytime I've gone, the dining area is empty, but the drive thru is full. My thinking was, go into the restaurant and save time. There wasn't a line at all. Yet, my food took FOREVER. Second complaint - so the food finally comes out. I unwrap my burrito, which came with salsa. Now, rather than dip the burrito into the salsa right away, I decided to taste it au natural. It was SO BLAND! The tortilla was tasteless, the eggs were tasteless, and where was the sausage?? Are these little brown bits supposed to be sausage? Good Lord, talk about skimping on the meat! They pretty much HAVE to give you salsa to pour on this burrito cause it doesn't have any flavor what so ever without it. Third complaint - the hash browns were DRENCHED in oil. Do they know HOW to cook hash browns?? You lightly drizzle oil on the shredded potatoes and fry them on the griddle or pan. They apparently just drop shredded potatoes directly into oil and deep fry them. And when they spoon them out, they don't drain the oil, half of it ends up in the bowl with the hash browns! Its gross!! Potatoes swimming in oil! The only high point of this meal was the cherry limeade, which is ten times better than the one at Sonic. They use a bunch of syrup so it's extra sweet. I haven't been to Hud's in months. If I go out for breakfast, I now to go McDonalds. Don't laugh, I realize I'm comparing fast food to an actual restaurant. Micky D's sausage burrito is $1 and it TASTES so much better than Hud's. The eggs are gooey with cheese and its got plenty of meat! The hash browns are 2 for a dollar and they are crisp and not drowning in grease. If I had the time, I'd stop at Hud's first to grab a cherry limeade, then go to McDonald's and grab the food. That would be awesome. When ever I visit my sister in Amarillo we always make several visits to Hud's(sometimes several in one day). What we like are the Cherry Lime-ades - they are the best in town!!! When we're wanting food - I get the BLT and a side order of okra with ranch dressing - YUM! I forget what she orders - probably a burger. Ordered single patty hamburger with tots, Dr. pepper with no ice was the order. They delivered the single patty TVP burger with tots, and a Dr. Pepper with ice. When they actually get your order right, which doesn't happen often, the food is great. NEVER leave the drive-thru without checking. Tonight, in a rush, I drove home without checking. They made 2 out of 3 burgers wrong, left out 2 out of 3 fries and got 1 drink wrong. The ticket was correct, the food was wrong. Drove back up there and the cashier very obviously didn't care and then said we weren't charged for 1 order of fries and charged me an additional $1.50. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Ok so the food here might not be great, but it is cheap. I remember the breakfast burritos from here were very filling and light on the wallet. But I only go here for the cherry limeades and they are the best I've ever had (cue Drake). They use some dank ass cherry syrup with real actually limes, the perfect yin and yang mixture between the two flavors. I bet jesus' blood tasted like this. We've always loved Hud's and stop often after leaving doctors appointments. Until today.... I took my two children in there to have breakfast. Before I start my rant, I will say the food was excellent. However, the employees were not. One employee sat down to have her breakfast and was upset because she was only given 2 f'ing pickles. Then made a derogatory hand gesture to show how upset she was. While I'm no prude. This was completely unacceptable and having to explain to my 6 year what that meant was not okay. Another older couple came in and ordered their food and waited at the counter. They said they had never been there before. The lady at register told them that they could pick up their food down at the other window. After they walked off, this employee called them assholes and wondered how stupid can some people be. I am absolutely appalled at the behavior of these employees. We've been frequent customers of this restaurant. But that ends today. read more

Went to get lunch, which took forever and it wasn't even during the lunch hour. Then upon reading a sign by the register, since the lime growth has been affected by the drought.....which I thought was mainly a tropical fruit, Huds hass raised price by 30%. Yet they no longer give refills of cherry limeades for free, they charge $1.89 if you want a limeade. If you opt for the drink refill without the lime, they will do that for free. For the best cherry limes and flavored soft drinks, Hud's is the place to go. They have the best ice around too! My out-of-town relatives always want to go to Hud's when they're visiting.
