This was my first time to try this burger and more place. You order at the counter. The burgers are served naked. They have a nice selection of vegetables at the salad bar to dress up your burgers. The burger patty is a decent thickness and is served medium well. The patty was juicy and had a really good beefy flavor. The side of fries is a pretty good sized order. They are fresh cut shoe string fries. They had sufficient seasoning. They could have been a little bit warmer, but otherwise they were delicious. The place itself is rather large on the inside, although it doesn't really look it from the parking lot. The restrooms were spacious and clean. I thoroughly enjoyed the food and highly recommend trying this place if you're in the area. read more

Not because I'm starting a new diet (though I am open to it), but because I'm not from Amarillo and I was on a mission--find the best burger in town. The contenders? Blue Sky (BS) and Buns Over Texas (BOT). Both got a plain, no-frills burger because I'm a purist. Also because I needed to taste the burger, not the personality of whoever slathered it in sauce. Let's start with Buns Over Texas. First off, solid single patty. The lettuce and onions were shredded like they just lost a fight, but in a good way. The bun? Buttery and toasted--basically the prom king of buns. I cheated a little and seasoned it myself before the first bite, but they've got a DIY fixin' bar inside, so technically I was just participating in the process. BOT gave me flavor, crunch, and the mild thrill of mild customization. Then came Blue Sky. The building looked suspiciously clean, like a place that might overcook a burger and call it "gourmet." But I was wrong. The single patty was hefty, cooked perfectly, and had real flavor--without me having to sprinkle on anything like a bored wizard. It was ready to impress straight out of the wrapper. This was my first time visiting this place. Cashier was confused about adding another hamburgers to our order when he only had 4 hamburgers in our order. We wanted 5 hamburgers in our order. All the chicken was gone. I was not impressed with these hamburgers. Blue Sky was closed so we gave Bund over Texas a first time try..... The original Texas Tea / HTeaO. The burgers here are pretty awesome. I always get the mushroom and ask for garlic aoli then put green chile on it at the condiment bar. The best! It's counter style ordering, with a large and usually moderately busy dining area decorated with a lot of Texas memorabilia. When your order is ready they tell you your "buns are up". My daughter came home for thanksgiving and as always wanted to go to Buns to get cheese fries. Imagine our surprise when the fries were ready and we saw a smaller than usual amount and not the thick fries we have always gotten but instead close to shoestring size. People have been raving about BOT (Buns Over Texas) to us for a while. We finally decided to give it a try. We were under the impression it was a restaurant, but it's a "order your food and sit and wait till the call your name" joint. We got 2 8 oz Classic burgers and a kids burger meal. The burgers had decent flavor, not overly or underlay seasoned. It reminded me of Sonic burgers from the 90s when they had decent food. ‍ The double order of cheese fries were a decent size. We finished the whole burger and fries with no problem. I wouldn't say that the flavor was unique or anything like that. The prices were actually kinda expensive for such a plain burger. The only thing you can really do with your burger is cheese, mushrooms and things like that. read more

Buns Over Texas is great place for burgers or French fries. You can have the friends with cheese and ranch dressing dip or you can have them plain. They let you put your own desired toppings on your burger, so there is no mistake of what you want. Their teas are great and so is their milkshakes. read more

From now on I'm only coming in when I see certain people behind the counter. We've been coming to Buns for more than 20 yrs. It's going to pot! First of all, while I'm glad they are disinfecting, you don't use Clorox while people are eating. The place reeked of Clorox!! The tables were cleaned with something that left a gritty film and I had to get wet paper towels to wipe them down and dry them so we could eat. Either the burger had no flavor or I couldn't taste it for the Clorox smell. The cashier taking our order was very rude when we asked for the coupon special and said it was Corporate decision to not give them anymore unless you have a card. It's a local owned place not a chain, unless something changed lately. Anyway that's fine if they decided that, but they could have announced it! Let me start off by saying do not go here around noon on Sunday, if you do not want to have an hour wait standing in line. I guess this goes to show how good the food is. We ended up staying in the long line. And Man was it worth it. The burgers and fries were incredible. In the selection of drinks is by far amazing. Okay, so it's a greasy hamburger joint. But man, do they have the tea selection! I was going to get the Arnold Palmer which was recommended in the reviews but when I saw they had mint tea I took a taste of that and it was so delicious I got it instead. The one with sugar was a little on the sweet side to suit me so I mixed it half and half with the non-sugar version and it came out perfect. I got a refill to take with me when I left and it was very refreshing the next day. Instead of getting a hamburger or hotdog I decided to get their BLT, partly because it was expensive and partly because I just don't eat that many hamburgers and hotdogs anymore. I gave it kind of a funny look when it was offered to me because it was really just two pieces of Texas toast, quite good I might add, with several slices of bacon and nothing else on it. The lady must have seen the look on my face and realized I didn't know the system because she quickly told me that tomato and lettuce were over at the condiments bar. That was kind of cool because it meant that I could take as many tomatoes and as much lettuce as I thought would make a good sandwich. I was expecting a cheap version of a BLT with paper thin tomatoes and a smidgen of soggy lettuce so I was quite pleased to find that I could throw some decent size tomatoes and fresh crispy lettuce on the sandwich plus add a little mayonnaise and onion and a couple of pickles on the side. For the price it was an excellent BLT and I would easily go back for that and the mint tea both. The servers were friendly, the place looked pretty clean for a fast food joint. They have a drive-thru if you just want to grab something to take home. But then you don't get a refill of that wonderful tea! read more

Made it home with a completely wrong order, went back to get the correct order and our food was cold. When I told her it was cold she just stared and me and wouldn't accept the food back. Now we need to drive home with our cold food and eat it even colder. Spending $40 at a place to have the wrong order, wrong drink sizes, and cold food is not acceptable. As a frequent visitor to Amarillo, BOT was once one of my standbys (particularly, the green chile burger). Tonight was my last visit. It took almost 20 minutes to get the order, and it wasn't right. The burger was waaaay overdone and the buns warmed (not toasted) almost to be point of being croutons. The onion rings were burned and served at room temperature. The bacon was still chewy. Got screwed on coupon. Had a coupon for buy one burger get the second at same or less for free. Did not get the free one and both orders were the same except one with tater tot and other with onion rings and was only given $2.00 off. Also did not get order right. One was supposed to have onion rings and instead was given French fries. I believe the gentleman (manager) was to busy having his nose in his phone and not paying attention to the order or customer. 4 stars from me is good. Cody M complained sandwiches had nothing on them. Pf course they dont because you go to condiment bar and you pick what you want from two kinds of pickles, relish, jalapeños, green chiles, onions, tomatoes, pico, and two kinds of lettuce. The one thing they don't have that I would like for the onion rings is picante sauce or salsa, but I make my own using pico, ketchup, green chiles, and onions. Really good onions rings. This review is for Texas Tea. Oh Texas Tea, how I love you so. How I wish you were around when i was in high school. I could drink your sweet raspberry tea every day, and I totally would if I lived in the area. My little brother remains faithful to WaterStill, but I love the variety of the tea and the location, as well as the ice. And happy hour. The last time I went home (over thanksgiving), I went four times in three days. On my last day I took home a half gallon and the guy working was like, "Are you sure you don't just want a recurring order?" At that point I nearly cried because I WANT A RECURRING ORDER but they can't ship it halfway across the country. I put a half gallon in my suitcase and checked a bag on an airline that charged me for it, that's how much I love this tea. I rationed it out over about a week (a tiny glass a day) and that was it. So that's the only downside: there is one location. And it is 1500 miles from me. When my boss retires I might look into starting my own Buns Over Texas location. Not in Texas. So I can have these teas whenever I want. read more

Wanted to go somewhere before we left Amarillo, first 5 choices were closed on Sunday so we decided to eat here. It was very busy, cool decor on the wall. Prices seemed high so I expected great food and good portions. I got the large burger combo, came with just cheese, guess I should have read what it came with, this was 9.99 with fries and drink, fries were nothing special. Wife had the chicken sandwich but it came with nothing on it either, daughters got the burger and cheese fries, these fries weren't bad but it's cheese and ranch, hard to mess that up. The "manager" was also a cook and could not take the time to address the problem , He Nonchalantly told us someone must have taken our order. We go here every time I have family from Dallas in town. The burgers are always hot and fresh, and you can pile on as much veggies as you want including green chiles and jalapenos. The veggie fries are always a nice change and great for a keto diet. To top it all off they have water still teas as well. I wish they had a better unsweetened tea selection but I get by just fine. read more

Arrived in that time frame only to wait in line for almost another 30 minutes behind people who ordered at the window. We eat from Buns over Texas Amarillo at least once a week. So very disappointed with our meal tonight. We called in our order at 6:55 and was advised that it would be ready in 15 to 20 minutes. We leave the house at about the 20 minute mark. The drive thru was busy, not a big deal, we'll just run in. The hubs runs in and seems to be in there awhile. I text him at 7:43 to clarify if they had to go and kill the cow first. They told him it was going to be about 15 to 20 minutes. What seemed to piss me off the most is the fact that they asked for my phone number. If they were busy and the wrong time frame was given, no big deal, just pick up the damn phone and let me know. When we finally got our order and made it home, the Large burgers had packets of Miracle Whip in the box( they've always put it on the burger in the past) and they didn't give me the tator tots that they had no problem charging me for. Before this experience, I would have highly recommended them, the burgers are wonderful, but a simple phone call would have made a lot of difference. I haven't been there to BOT in a couple months since the last 2 visits were disappointing as far as the burgers. The meat has little flavor and when I ordered bacon for my cheeseburger, which was a 2 dollar add on to the 10.99 price, it was just ONE BACON STRIP torn in half and put cris-cross on top of the cheese. However, for a place in Lubbock that for 20 years has billed itself as a fun place where they announce ';name here;' your Buns are up!', it is decidedly an UNFUN Place to eat. Don't let that fun saying fool you. If you try to gibe a fun name (never an inappropriate name) to say like 'Captain, Hero, Ranger, etc.', there is a burn-holes-in-your-face angry Karen cashier named L****n that sucks the joy out of eating there. She'll give you her best Eat Garbage look and pull your name off the credit card instead. And then proceed to give your whole party withering glances all the while you are eating. Four of us used to go there all the time. After a particularly nasty L****n beat-down, we didn't return for 4 months.
