After two visits I think it is safe to make a recommendation on this local establishment. Starting with my favorite option thus far; off the brunch menu the Chicken salad croissant, with a side salad. Very tasty and well proportioned. Secondly, I'd say off the breakfast menu the biscuits and jalapeño bacon. I opted for a few eggs and a sausage patty for the review of course. For a local yokel establishment it was great for lunch and alright for breakfast. A bit high on the breakfast at $24.00. My husband and I were visiting the area and were searching for a good breakfast or brunch spot. This place came highly recommended. I'm not sure why. While we were able to eat quickly, the food was meh and the outdoor eating area smelled like sh*t so we relocated inside. I ordered biscuits and gravy with jalapeño bacon. I LOVED the jalapeño bacon. But neither the biscuits nor the gravy tasted good. The biscuits were more like crackers--hard rather than fluffy. And biscuits (plural) is a bit misleading because it's one biscuit sliced in half and soaked in gravy. Chick-Fil-A makes tastier biscuits. But we visited this place on a Sunday and, unfortunately, Chick-Fil-A was closed. It comes with eggs, but I didn't eat the eggs because they looked like the powdered variety instead of real, whole eggs. My husband wanted a croissant but was told it would take 30 minutes to bake. Maybe we're impatient, but that seemed unreasonable for a "bakery" that had been open for a few hours at that point. So he settled for the smothered burrito. He didn't like that concotion either. The passionfruit teas we ordered were small but good, but not good enough for a return visit. $35 wasted. read more

Just had a delish breakfast of avocado toast. One piece had scrambled egg and bacon, the other had fresh berries and feta cheese. Plus there was a side of kale salad with sweet potatoes. I didn't take a picture of the breakfast because I was so hungry I just dug in!! The host was very helpful without being hovering! On my way out I went to the restroom. I'd remembered seeing a post about the hallway being cluttered with things! Well, it does have two chairs but that's it. We love Girasol. The staff are always very warm. You order at a counter with one register, which originally stressed me out with a line behind me, but the staff is always patient and reminds me it's okay to take my time. The almond croissant is so sweet and savory. It's a must have. I also love their Bierox. I'd never had one before, and honestly I wasn't sure how I'd feel about it but it was amazing. As an award-winning restaurant owner, and I never say that, but it matters here... this is our favorite restaurant in town. We tell everyone about Girasol! The cinnamon rolls are the best anywhere, and the breakfast is amazing. It's special! In a world of food service powdered gravy, and frozen biscuits, this place is such an oasis of flavor. Anytime we are in town we plan the trip around breakfast at Girasol. We tell others about it anytime there is an Amarillo connection. When out to eat last night at a different restaurant we told people about our breakfast plans this morning! After reading all of the reviews I was really forward to trying this place out. I was the second one in the door and the first to stay for breakfast. I ordered the biscuits and gravy since everyone raves about the biscuits. 25 minutes later after someone else was served before me my meal arrived and it was stone cold. I hailed the server who came back and took my plate without a word. No sorry no nothing. A few minutes later a replacement came nice and hot. Again, no sorry no nothing. Now how could a simple breakfast like that take 25 minutes when basically all the components were likely already done out side of scrambled eggs? I got some pastries to go as well. An almond croissant that was likely day old, a lemon bar that had only a touch of lemon flavor and the only good thing being a cherry empanada. I walked in at 1130 am as you can see my fiance is still eating I had to eat without her. It took 1 full hour just to get eggs and a biscuit with bacon... I've gotten faster service at ihop. No one bothered to check how long it had been that we had no food was offered a cinnamon roll as condolence for the long wait but ONLY after I verbally complained for why it took so long food was good but lacked enough meat in her meal was one square of brisket. It appears to me they just don't have the ability to keep up with orders things are very clean though manager apologized she was nice. I just saw a lot of waitress's joking around and not really attentive to folks seems to me the chef is probably a the only one successfully doing their job sadly no one I managing the order in which meals or ordered tables should get good Atleast at the same time bare minimum. From my perspective we were the only table that waited an hour. I feel like also my portion was pretty small so maybe improve that... would I come here again probably not unless they remember me and offer faster service ? Happen to be in Texas for the week and I am huge on breakfast. Had to find a spot that was both vegan friendly and for a carnivore like myself. Looked up this spot and decided to pop in and what a charming place it is! We perused the baked goods being offered for the day as well as the breakfast menu. I ended up getting the two-egg breakfast with the homemade sausage, house potatoes, and a small side of the Greek yogurt with fresh fruit. All were incredibly delicious. My eggs were the exact perfect version of over easy, the potatoes were crispy and salted perfectly and the homemade sausage patty had the slightest hint of spice that brought it all together. The greek yogurt was divine and fruits crispy. To top it off, they make their own homemade strawberry jam! Talk about impressed! The food was so good we decided to return for breakfast again with another one of our colleagues who ordered the French toast - she said it was absolutely delicious although it's had bit sweet. The owner of the spot, Steve, came over to our table and chatted with us twice and made sure to welcome us back on our return visit. His personal interaction, smile and laughter along with the music, and overall good vibes that wafted from the kitchen tells me this is such a chill place to work at. Outstanding food at this off the beaten path spot. Absolutely the best iced tea I've ever had - watermelon tea! Santa Fe eggs benedict on a fluffy fresh jalepeno infused biscuit. Eggs perfectly poached - not too soft, not too hard. A couple of slices of jalapeño and maple candied bacon and a light, creamy tangy hollandaise sauce. Non-traditional but outstanding. Best breakfast I've had in a long time! We were traveling through Amarillo and wanted to find an alternative to all the mediocre chain restaurants. Girasol is a great alternative. We went about 8:45am on a Sunday. It was about half full when we got there but got busy while we were eating. I had a special, the Cowgirl Hash. I'm a hash fanatic and have tried many versions. This is near the top of my list. A huge bowl filled with potatoes, kale, onions and bell peppers, all perfectly cooked. This is topped with a large portion of brisket (yes, brisket!) and a sunny side-up egg. It was excellent but too much food for one person. Lucky me, I have half of it for left-overs. Others in our party got the eggs 3 ways and French toast. But were also excellent and a lot of food. Unfortunately, we were too full to try any of the baked sweets. The blueberry bread pudding looked amazing. The staff is super friendly and the service very good. All the meals were about $15 each, a great price for a lot of excellent food. We'll be back through Amarillo in a week and will definitely return to Girasol. read more

We travel through Amarillo regularly almost always stopping at our favorite burger joint in the world, Blue Sky Texas. Thankfully, they close on Sunday, allowing us to find this wonderful little gem Girasol Café and Bakery. We had sandwiches on this stop, I had the ham and cheese on a Japanese roll, called the aloha, and my wife had the turkey avocado with homemade chips. Both sandwiches were prepared to perfection. I highly recommend. We also procured several pastries, including an apricot empanada that is baked not fried. Slightly warm, with a cup of coffee it was over-the-top delicious. We took away a lemon square and a granola caramel bar (I forget what the name was) but it didn't make it home, again, unexpectedly delicious. The cinnamon roll was calling feverishly for me, but unfortunately, I didn't try at this time. But the next trip to Amarillo is sooner rather than later so we can make another trip to Girasol Café and Bakery. I can't end this review without mentioning how friendly and accommodating the staff are. We we interacted with at least three, and I can say I truly felt I was appreciated as a customer at this place. Each one of them demonstrated a genuine interest in us and the enjoyment of their preparations of our food. O our cross country road trip we had a stop in Amarillo Texas. What a lovely town, people were friendly and when we passed the Barnes and Noble the parking lot was packed. How great that people still read books and dont always rely on their computer! But let's get to the food at this place. Located In the very back of a strip center is the charming Girasol Cafe and Bakery. When we walked in there were only two tables available out of about 20, but they also have a nice size outdoor area. Wish i had taken photos, but it's a little country chic meets 60's chic. You order and take a table and get served. Again, i wish i had taken photos but there is one of the front of the place and a partially eaten almond croissant. I was craving a biscuit and wasn't disappointed. Home made golden brown with cheddar cheese and jalapeño. Served with a country gravy. My hubby got scrambled eggs and the almond croissant and we both got just regular black coffee. But it was anything but regular! It was kinda like cafe de olla flavoring but just black coffee. I am drinking it now, as i write this review, back on the road again! It's counter service, but seating can be tight, though the food does come out quick (so tables turnover quickly). I got the Huevos Rancheros with scrambled eggs with jalapeño bacon. Overall it was good. The eggs were lackluster; I think they "stretch" them with milk and I didn't love the texture. Bacon, black beans, and potatoes were great. Good coffee, too. My husband's French toast that I took a bite of was incredible. The bread was so fluffy. He also didn't like the eggs. We got a blueberry scone, cheese danish, and cinnamon roll to go.
