We love this place so much, it's where our kids like to go for their birthday. It's very old school, and usually fairly crowded with older people... that's why we love it so much. The menu consists of different sandwiches, burgers, and things of that sort. Everyone is kind, the staff is attentive, the pies and cakes are INCREDIBLE. Hands down, the best coconut pie I've ever had in my life! Thanks Cafe Marizon! read more

Excellent homestyle food. The lady who served did an excellent job. I had a special request and they were able to accommodate. The atmosphere from the outside made me think it was Italian food. but once I got inside, I realized it is very homie inside and that it is southern cooking did not expect that have lived here four years and not tried. It will definitely be one of our new go to places. Oh, and don't forget to get a slice of coconut pie it's worth every calorie. read more

Always excellent service and food. Definitely recommend the chicken fried steak and any of the pie. Really cool, laid back feel.

Nice ambiance, photos have history. Cake spectacular. Sampler Plate was way bigger than I thought considering it was on the Lite side. Egg salad - oh my! read more

The only thing that keeps this from being a 5 star is the slow service. The wait staff seemed scattered, uncertain, lost, tired .. not sure what. But we love the atmosphere and the time we spend unplugged as a family so it wasn't an inconvenience since we didn't have a place to be. The head waitress that noticed us and said someone would be with us soon .. but she never gave our waitress the heads up that someone was at her table - so the head waitress could have been more helpful and at least interested in doing a good job as well invested in her co-worker's success ... if she's like that all the time, I wouldn't be surprised if this place had high turnover in wait staff. Anyway, our food was delicious as always. I don't like brown gravy - but ordered chop steak and their brown gravy is amazing! I will be back for that! I just have to remember to skip the salad since they put celery in it I loved this place when it was downtown. Still love it - kinda miss the atmosphere of the one downtown to be honest. It was a happy, bustling place - we loved the energy there. Now, it's almost too laid back. read more

Good food, love the homemade bread & desserts. Nice atmosphere, support local restaurants!

I've been here three times now and twice I ended up getting the same thing. The prices are a little high for my budget but the food is definitely good. I don't remember how much the salad combination plate cost me the first time but it had definitely gone up by the second time. But they do give you a lot of food. The sampler plate has a generous scoop each of ham salad egg salad, tuna salad, and chicken salad, all very good. It comes on a couple large pieces of lettuce with a piece of bread in the middle. There were definitely enough for leftovers the next day as there were the last time. I couldn't resist trying a piece of their pie even though it's $5.99 and I don't usually spend that much on dessert. The entire meal ended up costing me $24 with tax and tip which is more than I normally spend but again, it was very good food. The pie wasn't as good as my mother's or most places in the midwest but it was better than average. It was very rich! I should have cut it in half and brought half home. read more

My brother (who's visiting from Dallas) and I went to Cafe Marizon and had the best chicken fried steak dinner! I loved that the gravy was on the side so I could dip my steak in it! The food was great, the service was great. If you're looking for a nice place with a taste of home cooked meals you need to go here! Highly recommend! read more

Hi Folks, on my visit to Amarillo Tx I had a chance to try out Cafe Marizon My sister and I had the chicken fried steak dinner. My apologies for no pictures I rushed into my dinner so quickly that each bite led to another and another. The chicken fried steak was vey tender and batter was crunchy as it should be. So if you want a great chicken fried steak, you have to try it here. Our service was great the hostess was polite and answered all our questions. Our waitress was Heaven kind, and patient with us as we had so many great choices to choose from the menu. Great atmosphere as it should be with all Cafes. Next time I'm in Amarillo I will come back here and try something new since we had a great experience. It's good to have a Cafe where dishes are a hearty staple. read more

Fresh food and great service. My husband had the bacon cheeseburger and enjoyed it. I had the turkey and Swiss and it was really delicious. Both came with their homemade bread and chips, which we substituted for tots and sweet potato fries. Didn't have room for dessert, maybe next time. read more

I had high expectations for this place, but was completely disappointed. As soon as we walked in we felt uncomfortable. It's clearly an extremist republican ran establishment. The staff and most of the customers were Anglo. I'm not sure what's going on in there but it's definitely not welcoming. Food was bland and tasteless. Had to add pepper and salt to everything. Will not be going back. The cook kept staring and at us while we ate, yeah it was THAT weird. read more

Solid food, great value for the money. Great staff, very friendly. Food was served fast and hot. Check out their daily specials as well.

If your in the mood for some good home Cooking, this is the place to go. The roast is my favorite and the French dip is really good as well. The bread is fantastic and comes I the side and is also used for the burgers. I'm not a dessert fan, but my wife loves their sweets. The BTS, and pies are always fresh. read more

Amazing customer service. Amazing food with Very generous portions. And WOW. That chocolate cake is so tasteful. My wife has been in restaurant bus for over 30 years. She see s. How amazing the staff is. And the owner is very personable. (Scott). It's nice when staff knows your name. We will always support our family owned businesses. Thank you Scott and staff for hanging in there during these crazy times. We hope you all have a blessed day. read more

Delicious, delicious, delicious bacon cheeseburger. The bun was baked that day, and it was almost the highlight of the burger, which is saying something. They offer tots, and that is always a plus for me. My wife had a Cobb salad and she loved it. We caught them right between lunch & dinner, but nothing suffered because of it. Got to chat with the owner for a couple of minutes. Service was great, and we'll be back. I wish they accepted AmEx. read more

Very nice building but as soon as you walk in you already get the mediocre feel. Potato soup is good but I really didn't like the service. my burger was awful. Chips were stale and salsa was pretty much chunks of tomato without peppers it's like they opened up a can of diced tomatoes and poured them in to a cup. the only reason there are two stars is the soup. read more

Such an amazing restaurant! Staff are always friendly. Whether dining in or eating to go it's a great experience!

Waitress was wonderful, food good. The only complaint, and it was a deal breaker, was I went to the restroom and was looking at the Amarillo history displayed on the wall outside of the of the door. A woman came out of the kitchen and I was told I wasn't allowed to spend that much time looking(since they didn't own the pictures ) and had to go back to my seat. I guess they assumed I was a liberal and was up to no good. Felt very uncomfortable. Good place, but felt very unwelcome. read more

Not great. Giving 2 stars because the people were nice. Daughters corn dog was still cold in the middle, mashed potatoes were instant, bread tasted cold and store-bought. We gave it a shot but it just wasn't good. read more

Cafe Marizon - 7:45pm - Friday, 10.5.16 This evening I went to Cafe Marizon with my dad, my fiancé, and my baby nephew. They weren't very busy so we chose a seat and the server came over and got drink orders. My dad ordered the roast beef dinner - it came with the roast, mashed potatoes and brown gravy, salad and bread. The roast had wonderful flavor, and it was very tender. His only complaint was that the mashed potatoes were lukewarm - he asked the server if she could bring some out that were hotter, and even those were barely warm. He raved about the roast beef, though. Fiancé got the roast beef French dip and he was equally impressed with the succulent roast. Baby nephew had the kids' chicken strips with tots, which he ate enthusiastically. I ordered the chicken fried steak dinner which comes with salad, bread and mashed potatoes and gravy. Same as with dad's meal, my mashed potatoes weren't hot, and they needed some help via salt and pepper. I was pleasantly impressed with their salad - they use nice green romaine and it had goodies like carrot, tomato, and celery tossed in. I also appreciated that they sent out a whole squeeze bottle of ranch, so we were able to use as much or as little as we liked. My CFS itself was unremarkable - semi-tender, and I added salt and pepper. It was good but I'll probably order something different next time. Their fresh bread, by the way, is so good. It's tender and flavorful. For dessert we all shared a slice of chess pie and a slice of coconut cream pie. Both were really tasty, and fair portions. Over all, it's a cool little joint. Also looked like they have a pretty nice patio, so we'll have to visit again to see that, once our sunsets start to come a little earlier. read more

Atmosphere and look of cafe were enjoyable. Food unfortunately was subpar. I ordered chicken fried chicken, wife had grilled chicken. Mashed potatoes were pretty flavorless, homemade bread very bland and tasteless. Side salad for both wife and I was so gritty like not washed, we couldn't eat it. My daughter ordered peach cobbler for dessert and they were out. Are you kidding? Early Friday night when most people out and you don't plan to have enough. Overall overpriced, bland and not a good experience. Won't be back. read more

Roast beef sandwich was very good. Onion rings were burned and inedible. When I noticed all the tv's were on Fox news I lost my appetite. Never going back. read more

First time trying this place. The soup of the day (chicken & sausage gumbo) was pretty bland. Bread was delicious and seemed very fresh, maybe even homemade. Side salad was pretty small. Prices are a little on the higher side for soup and sandwiches. Just under $15 for a half sandwich, soup and a side salad. read more

I cannot believe I'm the first person to rate this place. Cafe Marizon has been around for a long time. I've lived in Amarillo 14 years and it's been here, in the same downtown location, the entire time. The best thing about Cafe Marizon is the consistency of its product. I love it when I visit a restaurant and the food is the same every single time you go. That is what you will find at Marizon. They serve some daily home-cooked type specials and have the usual burgers and sandwich fare. They make their own hamburger buns and those are quite tasty-- dense and a little bit sweet. The waitstaff is friendly, the building is historic. Scott, the owner, is a super guy. I like it. I go to Marizon a couple of times per month. They are only open for breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday. But don't go early for breakfast. They will not open the door one minute before 8:00 a.m. and that's usually too late to eat breakfast on a weekday. This, I see, as a problem. However, definitely go for lunch. read more

Nice place for good ol' comfort food and sandwiches and more. Hubs is a tough sell trying a new place but the food here is delicious! We had the roast beef and chicken fried chicken. Eyeballed other patrons dishes and they looked good! Ordered their sampler salad plate to take home for lunches this week. You get 4 BIG scoops of their signature salads... ham, chicken, egg, and tuna (yup... I'm lazy!). Please check this new restaurant out! read more

This is a good consultant place for lunch. If your wanting a good home made desert there pies and cakes are great too.

So often when a restaurant leaves a proven location, the thing you loved about the food stays in the old place. Not so here. I have had several of the entrees and all are of high quality and great taste. Service is fast and friendly. The open face chicken fry is beyond good. Keep it up Scott read more

The decor in this place feels like home. The waitstaff was very attentive and helpful, though there was a little confusion when we first came in between servers on their sections. Almost everything that touched our table was homemade and fresh. I had the cheese burger, and the crispy fresh made bread was what sent it over the top for me. My wife's French dip was made almost more of a pot roast than a roast beef and it was great. The chocolate cake for dessert was the cherry on top for this meal. Add in the happy hour beer specials and I would recommend this gem to anyone in town. read more

This place is a must! The homemade bread made fresh daily is out of this world. My favorite sandwich with it is the chicken bacon ranch. Plus, you can't forget dessert! Cafe Marizon has the best French Dip in town. All of their bread is fresh and made by a local bakery here in town. My husband and I go here often because of the quiet atmosphere and you can actually sit down and have a cold beer, great hamburger and conversation without being bothered by loud music or your server. They also have a great selection of homemade desserts that can't be beat. Overall, it's just a great place to go! read more

patty melt with fries. bread burnt, patty overcooked and dry. would have benefited from dressing, sauce or more cheese. fries were not hot/fresh, and server spilled several on floor as she placed my plate on the table. no check back on my satisfaction. had been told that this was good place, very disappointed. read more
