Storm chasing in Amarillo again... The fancy coffee machine at our hotel was broken, so we went out to grab some coffee and a snack. I got a cappuccino and savory colache and my friend had a latte and slice of quiche. Everything was wonderful! I got the set up with the cappuccino, that came with some sparkling water and two dark chocolate covered açai berries. The foam artwork on my cappuccino was amazing and the heart lasted through the whole drinking experience. my compliments to the artist! It really was lovely. If you need a coffee I definitely recommend this place! Also, there is an open air porch situation where you can bring your pets. There's also plenty of seating both in front of the coffee bar and behind where you can sit on a couch or bar and write your book. went in here for my morning cup and ask if they had pour over. i was looking over the selection of beans and cashier suggest the house blend. try it and was underwhelmed. seems to be a bit diluted. and i tasted a little sour note. sorry, i dont like sour african coffee. my preference is south american chocolate nutty notes. i also felt the coffee to water ratio was perhaps higher to my liking. i usually do 20g coffee to 200ml water about a 10-11 ratio. this tastes kinda like a 15-16 ratio. i think this is just personal preference as I am just used to drinking more concentrated coffee than standard. my grind is also smaller thus if i extract to long, the coffee becomes bitter... anyways, pour over is a science with grind size, pour process and ratios all contributing to the flavor profile... not to mention the beans itself.. the only thing i would have wanted is a flight of different beans so I can try a variety and thus purchase the beans i like perhaps i should have instructed them to do a 10-11 ratio. anyways, the breakfast burrito was good and the place looks to be a really nice spot to hang as well. decided not to buy any beans.. perhaps i will mail order and try the other beans once I need to replenish my beans in a month or so read more

I have been to Amarillo a few times over the years while attending Texas Tech University in Lubbock. Sometimes it was for day trips, festivals, shows, or just exploring the city. Ever since my first adventure to Amarillo, I have made a point to visit Palace Coffee Co. This place has always been there for me, and I have always thought they do a pretty bang-up job. I had not been back to Amarillo in a few years. After graduating college, there was not much reason to make the trip until I started dating my girlfriend, whose family lives in Amarillo. Wanting to be present and involved with her family meant making the drive up from Austin, a 7+ hour trek that feels like one for the history books. Since I was back in town, revisiting Palace felt like an easy decision. They have never done me wrong. I have always liked this café. It has great energy, solid music, and a clean space. The darker, almost matte black aesthetic was comforting back when I was still in school and visiting Amarillo. I had gotten work done here before, so while working remotely during this trip, Palace felt like the right place to be productive. We arrived on a Wednesday morning. I logged onto the Wi-Fi, plugged into one of their outlets, and got to work. My girlfriend was there finishing up some schoolwork for Texas Tech, so it was shaping up to be a productive morning. When we ordered, she got a cappuccino with chocolate, and I ordered a lavender latte with oat milk. I also grabbed one of their cinnamon twists for breakfast. Not long after, our drinks were brought to our table. From where we were sitting, we could see the roasting, packaging, and preparation of coffee for distribution in the back, which was a really cool view. There was also a new barista being trained on different coffee methods, which was nice to see. As for my lavender oat milk latte, it was good. I genuinely think Palace makes some of the best lattes in Amarillo, and I still have not found another place in town that tops them. That said, I am not sure if it was nostalgia or just an off day, but it was not quite as good as I remembered. The espresso did not feel as strong or forward as usual. It was not bad at all, and they still did a great job, but I remember it being more comparable to some of my favorite coffee shops across Texas. This time, it felt just a step below that memory. That said, it was still very good, and it could have easily been an off day or my own palate. The cinnamon twist was big, filling, and excellent. I liked it, my girlfriend liked it, and everyone was happy. Palace clearly knows what they are doing and how to create a great experience alongside a great latte. What a fun stop on our road trip through town. It's right off the 40 and was easy to access. We tried the Honey Badger (4 stars) the Bluebonnet (5 stars) and a pour over (5 stars). Every staff member we encountered seemed to be happy to be there and were so friendly and helpful! If you have time to stay there is a variety of seating options including a semi-enclosed dog friendly patio area. Plus in the back you can watch them roasting beans. We've been a road trip from Phoenix to New Orleans to Dallas, and on our way to New Mexico before getting back home to Phoenix. One of the most enjoyable things is looking for a great coffeehouse each morning. We've had some good ones, and some that have only been average, but this one is #1 in our book. Why? 1). The Yelp reviews said the do pour overs, which is one of the main reasons we came. 2). They roast their own beans and it was really fun to go to the viewing window and see their operation. 3) their team is really friendly! Mallory took our order and made both of our delicious pour overs in their new specialty pour over machines. That was fun to watch and we really enjoyed talking with Mallory. She seemed genuinely interested in our travels and asked about our favorite coffeehouses in Texas. She made us feel so welcome that we were sorry we weren't spending another day in Amarillo to come back tomorrow. 4). I ordered a hot latte and with two size options, chose the larger. I got it to go but the place was full of patrons enjoying business and casual conversation. We ordered two iced Americano but one iced Americano with vanilla syrup. I loved sweet so my coffee is all the time super sweet. Coffee was great! Fruit flavor in my opinion. These days I don't like burn flavor coffee. I looking for sour and fruit flavor. This place coffee was. I loved this place interior. So pretty and I wanted to enjoy this place if I had time. Love all the options for matcha! They even have ceremonial grade matcha with just water, had I need in the mood to stay and sip and not catch a flight I would have ordered. I ordered a a regular matcha latte with oak milk, no sweetener ( meaning no vanilla or flavoring etc), it's smooth and hit the spot. I also ordered the gluten free blueberry muffin. Wow, the flavor and texture was one of the best I have had. They keep them in a separate container so no chance of CC, unsure where they are produced at. Hi went for matcha and they automatically put syrup in it and it's not listed on the menu. I asked them not to do that bc we don't consume sugar and then they put the sugar free syrup in with the matcha which made it disgusting and undrinkable and wasted my money. If your staff is trained to automatically put your syrup in it please put that on the menu so we can advise not to. If I tell you not to put syrup on it because of sugar that doesn't mean to automatically put sugar free syrup in it. That means no syrup. Thank you. My uncle suggested this place, & I almost drove away because the exterior looked dull. I was wrong to judge the Palace before walking in! This place has hipster vibes with neighborly service. I loved my drink, the Aztec Mocha, served in a ceramic mug by request. I only wish they had more pastry options, I was sad I couldn't find something chocolatey (ie cupcake, brownie, or croissant)... except for that, I would love to hangout here with friends, or chill by myself.
