I was in Amarillo for a few days and I came to this place 3 times; I loved it! If I was local this would be my go to spot. Seems like a great place for catching up with friends. I came one day to get work done. There's a good amount of outlets and different seating options. The wifi was solid. I ordered the golden chai and aztec mocha. The chai was seriously top-3 I've ever had and the mocha was unique. I love the cayenne and black lava salt topping. My husband said their black coffee was also delicious. Depending on the time of day, this place can be loud and busy (such as weeknight evenings where high school and college students fill the shop), or you'll find it less busy during the daytime hours. Either way, their roasted coffee enjoyed from a drip process or pour over style is unique with different tasting notes. Like the famous "Stumptown Coffee" out of Portland, OR or "Cat & Cloud" Coffee from Santa Cruz, CA-- Palace Coffee has a distinct flavor (taste and embodiment), that once you've enjoyed a few cups you'll rarely meet a black coffee that satisfies! Their cappuccino served with Topo Chico is legendary! Their business model specifically excludes a drive-thru so that's the primary reason I only offered 4-stars...it'd be more convenient for me if there was a Drive-Thru. read more

I've finally found the hipsters! Yes that's still a thing here in Amarillo. Seriously. In some respects the town is so much a throwback. Like the drive up bank lanes with the vacuum tubes are EVERYWHERE. But I digress. Following a morning workout and trip to TJ MAXX, in search of gloves for the arctic freeze we're in the midst of, I was hungry and so figured I'd pick up a coffee and a little snack. I decided on the thin mint latte and a slice of quiche. As one of the baristas went away to check to see if they still had quiche, she touched her face multiple times. She returns, quiche in ungloved hands. Not enough time had passed for her to wash them. She sets down the quiche and notifies the register person that there is more quiche. The whole time this is happening she is touching her face. Dude. I'm sure it would be fine, maybe. But food safety is paramount in my world. Palace Coffee would do well to send anyone working with food to a food safety and food handling class. Needless to say I opted not to eat here. The latte was good though. read more

A great find right off the main highway in Amarillo. We came on a snowy morning and were greeted by the friendly baristas. The menu is straightforward and they had some seasonal offerings-- yes! Meh on the tea and those who are to be the experts or knowledgeable about tea. Staff didn't really understand about bergamot tea and the aftertaste left- and it is part of the mint family. I am on a road trip and thought I'd stop at a local spot instead of a Starbucks for a little pick me up to help with the last stretch of the drive. Unfortunately, I am regretting coming to Palace. It took nearly 30 minutes to get 2 dirty chai lattes. Once I finally got them, I took a sip and was instantly disappointed. I wish I could get this taste out of my mouth! The staff taking my order is extremely kind and helpful trying to learn what I liked and even offered to adjust their recipe to accommodate my taste. The barista was just as kind and wanted to see how I enjoyed my first drink, the cortado. I dove right into a perfect single origin cortado which was absolutely perfect. Not to mention the chocolate covered cherry which paired beautifully with the rich espresso. Next I asked the barista what he suggested and he pointed me to the golden chai with espresso. I happen to love dirty chai's and make them regularly but this one hit different. Perfect cup for a cold morning and I will be coming back during my trip here. Omg! The best thing that has happed to me. I am currently traveling for work. I decided to look around for a nearby coffee shop and ended here. I have tried their Golden Chi, loved it. Decided to go back the following day to try something else, got the Azteca Mocha, sweet, chocolate flavor, took me back to the holidays. This is very much a 'sit-down' coffee place. If you're in a hurry, this really isn't your place. The employees are welcoming and have leisurely conversations with you as you make your selection or wait for your coffee. They only have two alternative milk selections so if you're looking for hemp milk or straight coconut milk, they don't have it. They have some Myracle Mylk blend or however it's spelled and almond or oat, I believe. Tried the Aztec Mocha. It was alright, a little on the sweet side but you can ask them to take a syrup out or two. read more

I really wish this place would have been a pleasant surprise. Unfortunately it was not. As soon as I walked in I noticed a huge sign that read Be Kind. I assumed they would be kind and welcoming. I was wrong this place was like any other local coffee shop. There were a lot of people on their computers doing work which was fine it was just that they had outside cups and snacks that they had brought in. I assumed since they had those things I could bring in my bowl of fruit as well as soon as I sat down with my family that had already purchased drinks that it would be fine with me eating my fruit since others in the shop had drinks and granola that were not from this establishment that would be fine. I was again proven wrong one of the employees immediately came up to me and said you're going to have to leave because you have fruit and there is no outside food or drink policy. I then made sure to make him aware that I was not the only one and that they actually had outside drinks which is what they serve so that should be a definite no and that would be fine as long as he made everyone aware of the policy not just me. He then said he was just going to assume that it was water in there thermos and as far as the granola it was ok as long as it wasn't purchased like at McDonald's or something. He said that was fine. I told him that was unfair and he said he knows but unfortunately those are the rules. This made no sense to me and I of course was upset because he was being unfair and basically singled me out. Not one person in that place was aware of the rules but me because he decided to just tell me. This is why local places do not make it because they discriminate against the people they choose to. I ordered a Cortado and they serve it on a wood tray with a chocolate bite and sparkling water so you can clean your palette. Who does that? This goes above and beyond for me. If you go there and see him, give him a smile because good karma should be reflected back, and you might get some yourself. :-) If I find myself traveling this way again, I would definitely make a point to stop at this place. I explained that I tried to limit dairy and liked a stronger rather than sweeter coffee. While waiting for my coffee, I watched the baristas chat casually among themselves. I ought to myself, it would be cool to work here. The shop itself was super cool and I could see myself (if I lived here) coming here for a few hours to get work done. I was disappointed in the coffee. Whatever I got was exactly what I didn't want. It was overly sweet and hard to detect the coffee. I don't think I would be as disappointed if I had hand selected my own beverage. But because the barista wanted to make me something, I had higher expectations. I always like to try local coffee shops when visiting new places, so we decided to give Palace Coffee a try. The staff was friendly and answered my questions about the coffee. I ordered the Honey Badger, which was light, frothy, and had just the right amounts of sweetness and hints of honey. The area was full of light and had a decent amount of space. My family and I spread out on some couches close to the window. They also had a cool looking plant exhibit. I ended up buying two bags of coffee to take home to my friend and sister for watching my pets while I was out of town, and both seemed to like it. I do agree with some of the other reviews that this is more of a sit-down coffee place, which makes it a great place for talking or hanging out with friends/family. read more

Phenomenal location full of passionate baristas. Being a man passionate about coffee I have had my taste of good coffee. Although their roasts weren't the best I had ever had, Joshy (the barista on bar) was extremely skilled. The friendliness and atmosphere was something that will keep me coming back, especially if my new friend is there on bar. I got a single shot espresso and was pleasantly impressed with the balanced flavor that came out. Was a bit acidic (as you find with lighter roasts) and really mimicked the claimed flavor notes that I received. I also got the shake they offer and it was amazing! Here's my issue. Bought a large cup of coffee and a pastry, both of which were very good. I needed to leave and asked for a coffee refill. Since I had a "to go" cup already that shouldn't be a problem. But they only refill mugs that stay there, not paper cups. And another cup of coffee was going to be over $2.70 (marginally high to start with). I politely declined but need to warn others about this policy. Hope they change as I've always liked this business and stopped at the location in Canyon often on bike rides while I lived in Texas. But I've move far away and just need to check things out before I visit next time. read more
