I had rarely gone here over the years, more into breads and bagels. Plus can't do milk. But my husband and 2 friends had gotten danishes, turnovers, cinnamon buns here for their coffee talks in our home. One just recently passed away, so my husband asked me to get a few items here. This place is difficult to review. I used to love this place - especially for lunch but it's just not the experience it used to be. I've never liked their cakes. There are better bakers in town for those. We love their Beirox - but we struggle with getting what we want - rarely do they have what we want .. one time they pulled one from the freezer and it was not good. I like their cookies - not because they are fabulous - they taste like my childhood - small town bakeries where I lived used these same standard bakery recipes I guess. I definitely like them better than Crumbl! I don't know that I've ever been impressed with their service. I usually feel like I'm bothering them in order for them to do their job. Out of towner visiting close friends and I talked about how hard it was to come by blackberry pie, even though they grow all over Texas. We were actually on our way to the Spirit Halloween store on Bell and she pointed out Belmar Bakery, see if they had anything I wanted. Wouldn't you know the first thing I saw when I came in was a baker's rack of ready-to-go pies, and they had one blackberry pie left! Snatched it like I was the first customer at a Black Friday sale. Understand, where I'm from, a lot of restaurants have pie by the slice, so I was taking a big leap of faith on a pie I may not like. I'm happy to say I wasn't disappointed!! The crust was solid, slightly buttery and smooth without the soggy bottom you usually get from fruit fillings. Disclaimer: if you get blackberry pie, you also get blackberry seeds in the filling. And I didn't mind! The filling was enough to balance out the crust, creamy--not watery--and tart like it should be (so many bakeries add tons of sugar to get rid of the natural tartness). AND it held up over the course of a few days rather than begin the slow crumbling and mushiness like a lot of fruit filling pies. I enjoyed it so much I bought another one the morning I left to come back home, I don't know much about the rest of the baked goods there (my 4 stars instead of 5) but I wouldn't hesitate to go back and get another ready-to-go pie of any kind if they're as tasty and well made as my blackberry goodness. I spent $34 on a dozen assorted sugar cookies for our Bible study tonight which I will never ever do again. They were horrible! The cookies were hard, tasteless, and the frosting tasted like pure sugar, was crunchy and had a horrible taste. I went there for lunch five years ago and it was horrible. I fell in to a food coma last Thursday eating here. Easy to find. Lots of parking. Coming in its very welcoming. You order your food at the counter. As we sit to wait, we were brought out little cinnamon roll cupcakes that just dissolve in your mouth. So good! I ordered the turkey bacon avacado sandwhich and made it a platter. This huge sandwich came out, the jalapeno soup was so creamy, mac & cheese and a snickerdoodle cookie. I could only eat half of my sandwich. And then as I am stuffed. They brought out a free dessert. Get the cream cheese frosting on the sugar cookie! I haven't had a non-grocery store cookie in months and that cream cheese frosted sugar cookie was amazing. SOFT frosting, soft cookie. I'm mad I only got one. We bought 5 Halloween cookies and 1 cream cheese and spent $15. Yikes! I would have bought more but I was paying in cash. Also we got there around closing and the server was very short with us. Umm it's not yet 6 pm- technically you're still open and all you need to do is reach in and grab a cookie- not like I'm asking you to make it from scratch. No need for the attitude. Got ahold of the owner who told us he has been selling old goods for YEARS without issue and for us to "shove it" and "f-bleep ourselves" when we had issue with them selling old stuff. Loved their assortment but I guess they have an assortment because the keep stuff on the shelves for days, or in our case--from Saturday till Monday and sold it for full price. read more

Stopped in moments after finding out my wife and I are having a girl. The Belmar crew hooked us up with an on-the-spot recreation of a cake, placing question marks in blue and pink on the outside. We had a reveal-the-gender party that night. When my wife sliced into the cake everyone screamed when they saw the pink (strawberry) cake beneath the frosting. It was a blast! Cakeland? More like FAKELand! My 20 and 23 year old daughters ordered a cake for my Birthday and were treated in a condescending manner. They had specific requests: chocolate with raspberry filling with a butter cream icing. When my husband picked up this tiny(!) cake 3 hours later, he was assured it was just as my daughters ordered. First problem: it was small, but a bit tall for a standard box. We were traveling 4 hours to celebrate the birthday. Some poor sucker had to hold it on their lap THE ENTIRE WAY. And later that evening when we cut into it-it was some crappy leftover stale white on white cake. Gross and pathetic. Shame on you Belmar for being condescending and supercilious. I grew up on Belmar Bakery Princess Bars for Christmas and many other wonderful creations from there. I haven't been there in many years and wasn't sure if it was still as good as I remembered. We had a 50th anniversary party for my inlaws and I decided to order a cake from here after I saw one they had online that was beautiful. I was hesitant to order blindly over the phone but I didn't have a choice being in Houston. So I asked the young lady on the phone if they could do a sheet cake instead of the tiered cake I saw online with the white on white piping and gold bow in Italian Cream. I went to pick up cake on day of the party and opened the box and was blown away by how beautiful and perfectly elegant this cake looked. They even put sparkling sugar across the top. I recently purchased a birthday cake from here and it turned out exactly how I wanted. I told them I would like a fiesta them with bright colored flowers. They helped me choose the correct size and assured me that it would feed 30 people. Well, they were correct because it just the right size. The cake was a hit at the party that was in Lubbock and we recommended everyone to stop by the next time they visited Amarillo. They were even nice enough to lend me a cake stand for our party and return it after the party. belmar is always usually great when i go into stores however whenever any time i get a pastry at roasters, which belmar supplies, they are always raw. almost every scone i've had has been raw, the blueberry muffins are always raw and then i got a peach danish and right under the peaches was RAW DOUGH. this is absolutely not okay and could lead to someone getting sick. i don't understand why you guys put so much into what goes into your display cases at the store but absolutely have no care for the people and company's supporting your business. read more

The minute I walked in with my family there was a blonde girl packing cookies who had the nastiest look on her face. I ordered some cookies for an event at work a few weeks ago and went by the store to pick them up. Not only were the hand-decorated cookies adorable, they were delicious and stayed fresh for days. The cafe section is also a winner - with soups, sandwiches, salads, and desserts. I walked out of there with my 24 cookies, a delicious sandwich lunch box, and 2 cupcakes for a coworker and me. If mediocre is your thing, then this is the place for you. Our first visit will unfortunately be our last. I ordered a birthday cake and went with a safe choice of vanilla and chocolate with buttercream frosting, since they had no samples of their cake. (This should've been a red flag, because had I tasted it, I would've never ordered). On pick up day, I could have excused the child's coloring book artistry (I was initially told they had very talented decorators), had it been good. The cake itself was fine, but the pseudo-buttercream frosting was terrible. It was not a classic buttercream frosting, it was just not good. After our event, we had 1/2 of the cake left over, and NO ONE wanted any (which is saying something, being a household of sweet & pastry lovers!!), so I scraped off all the frosting, and made cake pops with the leftover cake (and my own frosting). They opened the door anyway and finished topping 3-dozen fruit kolaches, so I could still make it to work on-time. OMG! Who does that? Amazing service! The box lunches are a nice change of pace (love the turkey cranberry on cranberry bread). We tried that bierox-thing (pastry, meat, and cabbage), but it took a lot of mustard to make it palatable to me, even though I've heard others rave about it.
