My family always stop while driving through Amarillo for their Cherry donuts and maple cinnamon rolls...a must!

In what can only be described as a scene straight out of an episode of Punkd picture this:It's Tuesday morning...7:30 AM....I decide to stop and grab donuts for my team...I see Donut Stop across from my favorite local coffee place Roasters....there's a line of cars in the drive thru...I decide rather than wait in line id go in...I'm greeted by a very nice young girl who says: "can I help you" I say "yes, I'd like 3 dozen assorted donuts". To which she replies.....Are you ready? Wait for it, wait for it, wait for it...here it comes: "I'm sorry, we're out of donuts!!!"....WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?! I replied back in a nice but shocked manner "I'm sorry, what was that?" She repeated, "we're out of donuts"....I said "but that's literally all you do....the word donut is the first word in your business title". To which she replied "we have cinnamon rolls". I said OK, give. Me 3 dozen cinnamon rolls". She goes to the back, is loading up the cinnamon rolls and comes back and says "we don't have enough cinnamon rolls". I said fine, give me whatever you have... I had 1 of the cinnamon rolls and it was super doughy and messy cause the glaze flakes off...this is definitely a 1 and done for me. read more

Such a great find! Did a search on Google maps for coffee and stumble upon The Donut Stop, not to mention the huge sign they have. Couldn't go in just getting coffee the donut menu sounded to appetizing. Got a coconut glazed and maple crunch glaze and holy smokes they're the best donuts I have ever had! Got a mixed dozen donuts this morning. Requested 2 old fashions and 4 blueberry cakes. When I got home we discovered all 6 were burnt, and tasted burnt. So I took them back to show them and to exchange for ones that were not burned. I was told they do not replace unsatisfactory donuts and that I would have to pay for any replacements. I asked for the manager and was told I would have to call the owner. I was amazed how little they valued customer satisfaction. This is unacceptable and I will not give them my business ever again. read more

No thanks. The donuts we flavorless, oily and messy. The tongs that they used to pick up all donuts we caked with icings so you got risidual flavors of maple and red dye on a plain glazed. The staff was friendly trying to find my 'red dye allergic' son a maple glazed that didn't have red dye on, it but couldn't. Picture attached. My kids eat anything sweet and they didn't finish these. The drive thru line was long, I was nervous.... It went quickly. The glazed donuts had a lil hint of cinnamon, the drip coffee was aok. Great on the go breakfast spot for us to stop at. read more

Yum! Driving through Texas we kept seeing this donut shop. Stopped in around 12pm to be greeted so nicely. Lots of freshly made donuts and fresh coffee still at noontime. We got a glazed donut and pecan roll. Both excellent. Reasonably priced. Ample parking easy on off highway. read more

Thank goodness the Women are back at that place. There were new guys there running the place for a while, young and all tatted up, they said that their family bought all the donut stops and they're running it now. There were barely any donuts made, the cinnamon rolls weren't even cinnamon rolls, they were flat round things with sugar glazed on it. The prices were ridiculous. Their dozen pack was $15+. We had stopped going for a while. Decided to go again and the Ladies were back, the shelves were full of donuts, their dozen pack was $11 (much more reasonable). Those young men were killing that place. I think they made a deal with mommy and daddy that if they run the Donut Stop that they would make it more money. In the end they were ruining it. I LOVED this place! This is a small, family run shop with freshly made, on the spot, doughnuts! This was a large, open place. The doughnut magic happens right in front of your face. You see the dough being made, then being fried, the icings/fillings being made, and the coffee beans being ground. Donut varieties from day-to-day. The apple fritter was AMAZING. The space was clean, smelled wonderful, and there was plenty of seating. I dinged one star because the customer service was terrible. Asking what doughnuts they had because there were no signs shouldn't leave me feeling like an ass. This place is a nightmare! The ladies working there on Monday, May 6, 2024, either didn't speak English or pretended not to. The only customer in the store when I arrived was an older gentleman sitting in the corner. The women who "work" there did not wait on me for a long time, and when one of them did, she acted like she was doing charity work. I told her many times I wanted an assorted of donuts EXCEPT the red-icing ones. She proceeded to fill a box with only plain glazed, nothing else. I tried to explain again and she and her co-worker laughed at me and started speaking in Spanish. I did buy the donuts for my business, but I also called later in the day to speak to the manager/owner. No one ever returned my call or my husband's call. I came across the Donut Stop when meandering around for some morning nutrition and thought to myself what better nutrition than donuts. Donut Stop donuts are the real deal. My bag with the three donuts felt like it weighed at least 3 pounds. Chewy, substantive, large, and sweet. I sampled three varieties; the apple fritter, the plain glazed, and the cherry glazed. The apple fritter was freshly fried, served warm, with powdered sugar. Tasty and very filling but needs more apple and a little greasy. Later on in the day I sampled my plain and cherry-glazed. The cherry glaze tasted a bit artificial, whereas the plain is very good, a very traditional donut. Overall Donut Stop donuts are very good and quite inexpensive. Got two dozen of everything and was happy with the variety:) And I was craving for something sweet for dinner too, so I asked for a yeast donut for myself... But the lady who helped me had no idea what yeast donut is and asked if I want glazed ones... Anyways I went with whichever one she picked for me (actually she gave me two), and was surprised that she gave me those for free:) I enjoyed my chocolate cake donuts and the next day everyone loved the donuts. Traveling through Amarillo and wanted some great donuts. First thing we noticed was the unfriendly lady at the counter...not friendly and didn't want to help us at all. Next thing we noticed was the lack of a display. What do I mean by that? The donuts are on those tall baking shelves (like when stuff comes out of the oven) and located way behind the counter where it is a bit difficult to see. It wouldn't have been a problem if the lady helping us actually helped when we asked questions. She just brushed us off every time we tried speaking to her which made it hard to decide on what to get since we didn't really know what they had. Donuts were average. The cherry glazed donut was the best thing I got. Maybe I would have been able to get better donuts if I could see them. The lady behind me in line ordered something that sounded delicious but I had no idea they had it. Oh well.....i will try another donut shop before leaving amarillo in the morning. read more
