Hot Pot
Sanjana R.

I have been back several times since my last review! I will definitely say that for the price, this place is so good. They have a great variety of veggies, meats, and seafood. My favorites in particular are the lamb and pork belly. The Tom Yum and Sichuan Mala broths are a good combo! The waiters are all very helpful and check in with you multiple times, even on busy nights. Music here is great! Will be back again.

I am the biggest fan of hot pot so naturally when I was in Chantilly and saw that Hot Spot was nearby, I had to go. And it was so so so good. I ended up getting the Massaman broth and it was so delicious. It was rich, a little spicy, a tinge sour, and perfectly balanced. I could come back and try new broths, but honestly I am still dreaming of this broth and wouldn't want anything else! The way it works is that you get to choose up to 3 meats, 3 miscellaneous meats, 3 seafood, and 3 starch. And then up to 6 vegetables. Word to the wise: if you are going with one other person, I would not get three of each. We did that and even after trying our best to eat everything, we did have leftover food which sadly would be wasted. It is AYCE so start small and order more as you go. We know this for next time! The beef, lamb, and pork belly were our three choices and they were great. My boyfriend loved the seafood option and said they were all fresh tasting. He ended up getting the sechuan broth and said it was a good spicy broth. Also the dumplings and mandu were amazing, as well as the rice cakes. I could rave all day, but I'll cut it short here. It was quite busy here but the vibes were great and everything was clean. Our server was nice and attentive (a little busy but that's okay!). He refilled our drinks and made sure to refill our broths after they got low. All in all, I'd 100% come back here. It is a trek from the city, but it is honestly worth it. I've been to my fair share of hot pot, but this was I think my favorite by far!

When I first moved to northern Virginia, this was my all time favorite place to come eat! I would normally come about once a month. All their food is very fresh and the all you can eat aspect means each time you come, you will have a new and unique dining experience. The menu of food to choose from is quite extensive. The meats, the veggies, the dumplings, the noodles, the broth. It all goes so well together. Cooking it yourself allows you to pace your meal. Everyone who works there is so nice and attentive and they're always encouraging you to order more. And the food comes out very fast after you place your order. I almost forgot about the sauce bar. So many sauces and possible combinations! My favorite is their house sauce thats a little sweet and a little spicy. There's not much in the way of interior decor, but that's fine by me. It's clean, well lit and spacious. Go and bring friends! You'll have a great time!

TL;DR: Quality of food was lacking, service was meh, venue was underwhelming I've heard people rave about this place, but maybe we came on an off day. When we enter, they have options for group table where you share a pot, or you can have individual pots. We opted for the individual pots. We were given menus, which have an assortment of soup bases, seafood, noodles, and meats. The menus were a bit tattered and parts were hard to read. Service was nice enough, but was hard to flag down due to the setup of the tables/barriers. Sauce bar is very standard items (stand alone ingredients: soy sauce, sesame oil, etc.) and had two house sauces. The sauce station was only on half the bar, low on supply the whole time we were there, and the area was a little dirty. Food was lower in quality than other places I've been. ~All the seafood was frozen to the point that the integrity of the seafood was affected. ~The meat was grainy. ~The soup base was lacking in flavor. ~The dumplings were dense with basically no filling. ~They were out of ramen noodles (on a Friday night at prime dinner time) Overall, was disappointed and there are better options for hotpot in NOVA.

Recently attended a private event showcasing hot spot's new menu items! It was such a cool experience and I'm grateful for the connections that I have. Their variation on lemonades are really good (dragonfruit lemonade), and I really enjoyed their new mushroom broth. It's an all you can eat at hot pot which is quite unique since that's usually with Korean bbq. Service is great. Esther was phenomenal and super attentive at our table. I had a very positive experience.

I have been to Hot Spot a few times and although it is not the best AYCE hot pot in the area; it does the job. The quality of the meats isn't the best and the seafood options are not the freshest either. The sauce bar could be better also. But if you want a cheaper option for AYCE hot pot in the NOVA area; Hot Spot is on the lowest price point at $33 pp.

You're probably used to the hot pot spiel by now. In case you're uninitiated, at hot pot places like Hot Spot here, you pick your soup base from a bunch of possible options - se chuan, tom yum, herbal, etc. Then you order a bunch of raw meat and veggies to cook in your soup. You have a personal cooker for your soup and you can adjust the heat. There's also a sauce bar in the back where you mix your own flavor of sauce. Look up the sauce bar for sauce recipes. The place could get crowded on Friday and weekend nights. If the weather is cold like it's a hot pot kind of day, you can expect an hour's wait. The original Hot Spot (not this location) used to be one of the only ones in the area a few years back. Now, there are so many options. I cannot say anything stands out about this particular establishment. The food is alright. If you live nearby and don't want to drive far, it's a good hot spot option. For me, the soup bases are not as punchy here. That's only my preference. If you do prefer your soup on the lighter side, this could be a perfect "Hot Spot" for ya.

Incredible find. Each person has their own cooker. I focused on the seafood, scallops, octopus and squid while the others were more meatcentric. Had a reservation for 9 and were seated immediately once everyone had arrived. Noon on a Saturday. Loud modern music seems to be the trend in most AYCE Hot Pot restaurants we've frequented across the country. Makes for a modern vibe. Definitely recommend this place.

Talia L.

I was surprised that most of the tables were family style rather than personal pots, I feel like I remember them all being personal pots in the past, which I prefer. Service was good and restaurant was clean, but I never understood why they only give each person one flimsy napkin given all the splashing that hot pot can involve. For broth we got chicken, shabu shabu, tom yum, and mala. I recommend any of them except for chicken. I enjoyed the ribeye and lamb meat, they were thinly sliced and tender. Fatty brisket was not as tender. The crab was super mushy. The clams and mussels tasted pretty fishy. Would prefer the seafood quality to be more decent or don't offer it at all. Scallops were very decent.

So many food options!!

Hot Spot Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Hot Spot

Does the soup base has MSG?

Does it matter? MSG is just a yeast derivative. Any headache from it is really psychosomatic.

Are there outdoor tables available?

Nope. No outdoor area when I was there a couple weeks ago

Is it open for dine in now?

Yes we just ate there last night! But bring your mask, you are required to wear one to enter

Can I go alone?

Yes! I do all the time! Just ask them for smaller portions so you can try more things!

Is this place vegetarian friendly?

Yes! You order the ingredients you want. They have a good amount of vegetables and noodles. I believe they have tofu too.

I habe an expired groupon for the Fairfax location...will they honor it here?

You should probably call the location and ask them.

What are the prices for the AYCE? Is there a lunch price and a separate dinner price?

Update: Just called and the cost for adults is $23.99, kids are 14.99, and 6 and under are free.

I'm not a negative review kind of guy, but when it sucks, it sucks…read more We usually visit once a month, and have not previously encountered a reason to complain. But today broke us. We walked in for lunch and it was busy, 10+ tables. It took a minute to be seated, no big deal, but we noticed immediately that the man seating us was also the ONLY employee on the floor. We watched as he made drinks, boba, pulled cases of Coke behind the counter, refilled water, and some 10 minutes later, finally made it over to take our order. We were very leery, but another employee suddenly appeared out of the back with the table settings and we were assured it was fine. We order and it takes about 10 more minutes just to get the broth. That starts BOILING before any of the meats, vegetables, or other items are delivered to the table. By this point we haven't eaten anything other than the complimentary peanuts and cucumbers, and we've been there a half-hour. My son's chicken arrives soon thereafter, and we finally receive the hot pot stuff. And that's the last we saw of the service team until he brought the check nearly 30 minutes later. We tried waving him down for refills, the other employee walked by and asked if we wanted a refill on the broths and then forgot about us. For an all-you-can-eat hot pot place, they sure can save a ton of money by never refilling your items, drinks, or broth. He brought out the check at nearly an hour later and I asked why he hadn't offered me a refill for any of the hot pot items. He apologized and then asked if I would be paying via card. I used the reward dollars we'd saved from previous visits because we don't think we'll be returning. Literally, absolutely zero inclination to serve us more food or even acknowledge that we were still hungry and hadn't seen him or any other staff after the initial table set. I removed the defaulted 22% tip HE selected on the credit card reader he brought to the table and asked for the manager. He said he'd be back, then disappeared to the kitchen immediately and didn't return for the 10 minutes we decided to wait. Another customer asked us if we'd visited before, and we told them we were monthly visitors, but this would likely be our last time. Another employee we hadn't seen the entire time we'd been there came to bus the table and we asked her if there were problems. She told us she couldn't talk about it, then hurried off to the back without even finishing our table. Most likely they were at least watching her, and would retaliate if she said anything out of line. A group walking in heard me complaining as we walked out, stopped me to ask what happened, then followed us back out the door. Can't recommend them anymore. Not sure what happened in the month since we were last there, but it's apparent it's not being managed actively. Short staffed is one issue, being poorly staffed by employees who don't care is a larger problem. Maybe new ownership and management is needed, if it continues like this, the corner will be vacant before too long. Sad, because this was a good place without having to drive to Falls Church. They could've cornered the market here in Ashburn.

Broth was mediocre (moderately watered down, lacked flavor), fish filet was a huge miss (couldn't finish the small portion we received bc it had unpleasant texture/ chewy after cooked), some meat options were chewy (our fave was the fatty brisket), and some of the veggies didn't seem fresh (mushrooms were soft/ discolored). We still had a good dining experience with the items we did find tasty & trying out a new hot pot spot in the Loudon area! 3.5/5

I loved the all-you-can-eat selection here which included unlimited meats, seafood, fresh veggies, noodles, and more. My go-to broth will always be the tom yum! We tried the Gingerbread Shooter, Yule Mule, and Mistletoe Martini, which were festive and fun additions to the meal. The AYCE hotpot is priced at $32.99 per adult. For proteins, we ordered a generous spread including Prime Ribeye Beef, Fatty Brisket, A5 Japanese Wagyu, Pork Belly, Fish Cakes/Fish Balls, Lobster Balls, and Fish Tofu. The A5 Japanese Wagyu ($19.99 per order) was absolutely worth the upgrade--rich, tender, and indulgent. For starches, we selected Clear Noodles and Kalguksu, and our vegetable lineup included Napa cabbage, Bok choy, Crown Daisy, Baby Corn, Kabocha Squash, Enoki Mushrooms, Straw Mushrooms, and Tofu Skin Rolls, giving us a great variety of textures and flavors. Nicole skipped the dipping sauce, while I stuck with my go-to combo of soy sauce, minced garlic, and fresh parsley. Overall, it was a satisfying and fun hotpot experience with plenty of options and great value, especially for groups or anyone looking to indulge in a wide variety of ingredients.

As for the food, the meats were flavorful and delicious, with decent portion sizes. The spicy pork belly is still my favorite -- always a win. I wasn't a fan of the hot pot broth, though; it lacked flavor and seasoning for my taste. The fish cakes and kimchi were a bit salty, but still tolerable. Service was mixed. I really appreciated that the staff handled most of the cooking -- after going to so many Korean BBQ spots, it's nice to just sit back and enjoy the food.
