My husband and I brought my parents here when they were visiting and they did not disappoint. Our waitress was Angie/Angela and she was very attentive with us. She gave us a tour of the menu and steered us in the right direction since we'd never been here before or to any HopJacks. The burgers are freakin fantastic and the whole experience was great. Had a Mojito and a Jalapeno Burger about 3-4 weeks ago at this place. It was on a whim, because I was starving and I didn't want asian take-out again. I was hankering for a good burger and a good drink. I'd never had a Mojito before so decided to go bold and try one. The girl working the bar told me that they didn't have top shelf rum for the drink, as it was supposed to, and instead decided to use some scrape of the barrel rum. I'll say this much, the first few sips were great, until I was half way done with the drink and it just tasted awful. The burger she handed to me wasn't prepared in a great way. It was soggy and falling apart. It tasted bland and without any flavor at all, even with the Jalapeno peppers and pepper jack cheese added. I even told the staff girl who gave me my check that afternoon, that I wouldn't be coming back - ever. This place should be ashamed to call itself a burger joint or family restaurant. I've been coming to Hop Jack's since I moved to this area over a year ago. The food and service has always been excellent and they have some of the friendliest servers around, however, the quality and presentation has slipped in the last 2 months or so. I regularly order the Cobb salad and the lettuce lately has looked like it has seen better days and the presentation leaves a lot to be desired. It appears like the salad was just "slapped together". In addition, they consistently forget to include all the items in the salad that are listed on the menu. I want to continue to patronize this restaurant but they need to step up on their food presentation and consistency. read more

I eat here probably once a week for lunch, its my favorite place to go! The food is great and they are accommodating to my eating style---I usually order a burger (sometimes turkey) protein style (no bun) or the Cobb Salad or buffalo wings. Everything is always good! They have the best drinks around, my absolute favorite is the White Gummy Bear martini! My kids didn't like their food or drinks but I will omit that because well they are kids and really, how can a corn dog be bad? My kids... I ordered the bbq Mac. I found it disgusting. Serve a soup that isn't chowder or friggin French onion) they admit they soup of the day is always chicken noodle but made there in house. It was ok. Much better than the Mac. I've been here three times and each time the service is terrible. Staff doesn't smile or attend to the customers quickly. Food is so-so. 1st time I was here the service was so slow even for the waiter just to take our drink order. The second time I went there it was earlier in the morning on a weekday. The door was open but once we got inside one one the employees rudely told us that they were closed and only opened for breakfast on the weekends. The third time I ordered the penne pasta with steak. I ordered medium and it came out well done. I tried to flag down our waitress but she was nowhere to be found. I asked another waitress to fix the order and she said "well, just eat the pasta and we'll bring out the steak." Our actual waitress passed us 3 or 4 times without saying anything or even checking in. I asked for the manager when the steak hadn't been replaced in over 15 minutes. The manager Geronimo came out and apologized and he had the steak that was supposed to replace the order (also overcooked). He seemed nice and was apologetic, took care of our bill and even gave us a gift card which we were appreciative for, but honestly doubt we'll use. read more

The Burgers were great! You can tell that the patties were hand patted from ground beef. It was one big room and the bar was just as big as the dining area. I've been to Hop Jacks dozens of times and never had a bad experience. Their burgers are hand formed patties and are very good, I love the mushroom burger but every one is good. Fries are just average, but I like the potato chips and every once in awhile I enjoy some greasy tater tots. I really like the buffalo chicken wrap and the turkey club is amazing although a time or two they have slightly overtoasted the bread so it can be a little dry. I'm not a fan of their salads, mostly because of the bowls, and they put tons of won ton strips and cheese on their side salad so I ask for it without and it ends up being very smell. I go there for burgers and sandwiches and am never disappointed with those things. I don't drink but in the days I did I always loved having a beer at Hop Jacks, mostly because they have frozen taps so the beers are very cold, and they always have a nice selection of good IPA's and Stouts and such on tap. read more

This was our first visit to HopJacks, and we came after hearing recommendations from several friends. Things didn't start off so well as we walked past several empty tables to be placed at a small table in a corner under the TV. But the server had a great personality so that helped! I will have to say I struggled to find something I wanted on the menu. I had actually decided to order an appetizer for my meal when my husband ordered the Monster Prime Rib Dip sandwich and I said I had actually been considering that. The server said it was her absolute favorite thing on the menu, so I ordered as well. WOW. That was an awesome sandwich! The prime rib was tender and flavorful, and was served on a ciabatta roll (another plus!) with au jus on the side. It came with fries or tots which were both just meh , but the server had already told us they were the only two things not made in the restaurant. Great selection of foods to please everyone! I like their salads, but their sandwiches are good to. A local place that has our favorite Mac and Jack beer on tap! We went here last night, used to go to the one in the Issaquah highlands with very long wait times. Last night was great! We had a party of 5. Our server I think her name was Angela was very prompt and attentive to our needs. I had the raspberry tini frozen drink and one of the new test salads the avocado chicken with the creamy avocado dressing. It was the BEST salad I've had in a long time. There were other dishes ordered at the table as well, no one left unhappy... Or with food on the plate. Then our server graciously bought the birthday girl chocolate cake for her birthday. It was amazing! We all left happy and full. Look forward to coming here again soon! Had a horrible experience with Hop Jacks in Maple Valley. I went there for lunch and ended up getting sick from the food. I contacted the management later that day to let them know what had happened so it didn't happen to somebody else. All they said was that the food had not expired. They didn't take into consideration that it could have been a number of different factors other than expiration date. In addition, they didn't even apologize for what happened. NOT IMPRESSED! I was looking forward to a new restaurant in Maple Valley and I am extremely disappointed. read more

Went to Hop Jacks for the first time yesterday and it was an open environment with great service. The burgers were Tasty and reasonably priced compared to places like Red Robin. There is good variety of beers and served cold. This restaurant has a good base but there was nothing that made them stand out. This place is AWFUL! The fish and chips were over battered and cold. The flat iron pasta was cold and the meat chewy. I was hoping for a good family diner in Maple Valley but this isn't it. The atmosphere was loud and noisy. The waitstaff were not attentive to our requests or needs. It wasn't worth the 20 minute wait. We didn't even finish our meals. Got a gift card for xmas. Figured we would try it for a football feast and take out during Seahawks game. The French dip had ZERO flavor...(horrible). The bread was gooey and soft, the Au Jus was NOT..it was watered down beef drippings...Very bad...we actually made our own and tossed the Jus. Very disappointed and will not be going back. Each time I went you waited 2 hrs for your food and then the last time an hour with apologies that they ran out of glasses for water, mugs for coffee. The waitress helps others that come in after you and we can hear them say that they ran out of OJ so they have to serve half a glass. Huh? There was a 15 min. wait to be seated so the restaurant was half full. I read other Maple Valley reviews and the astounding "food took a long time" resonates throughout. But some of them got great service. Interesting? Maybe the waitress picks and chooses who she wants to give good service. Who knows what's going on. I think it is poor management and poor training of their wait staff. All I know is that I was not treated well as a customer and ruined my entire dining experience. Hallelujah! YUK!!! This was our first visit to Hop Jacks and will be our last. This was literally the worst tasting and worst prepared food I can recall ever having in a restaurant. We had a few starters (Sauteed Shrimp and a Hummus Plate) and a Oriental Salad and my wife got a margarita. We initially considered getting more food but after tasting the these few terrible dishes, we opted to get our check and leave. Everything tasted like it was just scooped out of a bag or can and thrown onto some plastic dishes. Looking around at other food being served, not much looked any more appealing. There are many much better restaurant choices to spend $55 for a few starters, a salad and a drink. Amazing that others are giving this place anymore than 1 star. Maybe with so few choices in the area, people are being generous but this Hop Jacks would not survive the competition of a Seattle, Bellevue, etc. read more

I use to like Hop Jacks but it has really gone downhill lately! On 11/6/16 I went in to have a burger because I have always loved their burgers. I asked for a turkey patty and some other modifications on the Deluxe. The first time it came to me, it was a beef patty, I had to pick it up and take a good look because the edges were so badly charred black. I noticed a smear of guacamole from some other dish they'd been making, all over the bun. I sent it back to have it fixed and it was brought back to me as a turkey patty, but they had obviously just taken the ground beef patty off and smashed the whole thing back together, because the bun was soggy and nasty and also had guacamole smear in the same spot as the WRONG burger... What has happened to this place? I am hoping this was just a one time incident, and that if my burger isnt right next time, it wont be scraped off and smashed together with the same soggy bun from the mistake burger. Im only giving this place one last chance before I move on to what ever else we have in this small town. read more

ALL the food is great here, especially the tempura appetizers (any of them - zucchini, pickles, or prawns). Burgers are cooked well and are offered in delicious combinations. (I nearly always have frizzled onions added to mine.) Their house potato chips are similar to kettle chips, but with less fat, and served with a garlic ranch dressing that is fantastic (so my wife tells me; I have a dietary restriction and can't eat it). Their Mac 'n Cheeses (several varieties) are to die for, served in a skillet and with flatbread triangles. I always take half of it home. Their salads are decent size; the Southwest and Steak are my faves; those are also served with flatbread. They offer a number of sandwiches; the Spicy Chicken Grilled Cheese (again with added frizzled onions) and the Kyle's are our favorites. The fruity lemonades and iced teas (with actual fruit) are bottomless, and their margaritas are well done. All in all, HJ's is on our short list of restaurants when we want a good sit-down meal in the greater Covington/Maple Valley area. It may seem to be a bit on the spendy side, but if you're looking for something less expensive (and lower quality), Applebee's is just a few miles west. read more
