In my opinion, after having tried all the restaurants in Maple Valley (that had food I could eat with all my food allergies), the BEST BURGER in Maple Valley comes from the former Hop Jacks, now Hops N Drops. Their tater tots and fried pickles/zucchini and their hummus plate and fruit flavored lemonades are a family favorite, too, and we've never left hungry or unsatisfied with their food or the service. My husband loves their beer selection and my son adores their teriyaki burger. I always get a bacon burger with lettuce, tomato and avocado, and it is always juicy and delicious every single time. I had my birthday dinner there this year, and every time a relative is in town, this is where I take them. Highly recommended. read more

This used to be one of my favorite places. What I witnessed here has caused me to form the opinion of utter disgust for this establishment and the way crew are treated by management. After witnessing a manager (overly gaudy wing tipped eyeliner) scream profanities through to her kitchen staff, I will never come back. I was embarrassed for the guys on the line. Over a cup of soup? Mind you, myself and my family were on the other side of the restaraunt and could pretty clearly hear what she was saying. Through the bar and all the ambient noise (loud location)! The woman was rude, impatient and absolutely disgraceful. We watched her literally drop the soup off at the table and quickly walk away, leaving the people looking astounded. Horrid service. They were uncomfortable, me and my family were uncomfortable. Do yourselves a favor and boycott this restaraunt. No one deserves to be treated so poorly, and over soup as I gathered...ridiculous. that woman needs to be fired. Period. Food used to be better. I've eaten at the Hop Jacks in Bonney Lake numerous times and was never disappointed. When I saw they were opening one in my home town of Maple Valley, I was thrilled. However, when we ate there today (7/17/12) I was severely disappointed by the lack of care in preparing the food and the presentation was terrible. They have a burger that is pretty amazing. Now its off the menu, but they will make it if you ask for it. Which makes it a little more awesome. When you go ask for the big Jaun. Trust me you'll love it. It pretty much a burger stuffed inside a grilled cheese sandwich. The service is top notch also. I brought my daughter, they took special care of her. Meh. 2.5 stars upgraded to 3 since 2.5 isn't an option. 2 stars would be a bit harsh. Food is kind of bland; nothing special. You can tell that they have tried to be creative but just kind of fail. Flavors remind me of a blue-hair cafe. Drinks as others have noted are definitely great. I'm saying the virgin drinks are good too. Atmosphere/ambiance is also meh. Just kind of nothing inspired but not bad either. Service we have received the 8 times we have been here is right on par with the food and the atmosphere; not bad but nothing to write home about. I rarely see their parking lot empty, and after having stopped by, I understand why. Meeting up here with friends for happy hour is a must. The selection for drinks and food are great, and the prices are reasonable - above what you'd pay for the drive-thru and also a better quality than fast food. Service is a bit slow during some of their busier days and hours, but most of the time it's quick. The food is delicious (albeit sometimes a bit on the salty side), as are the drinks; having a Lemon Drop in a cup made of ice was awesome. The appetizers and entrees can be pretty big - large enough that you can easily share them with friends and cut down on your wallet. (We ended up diving into each other's food anyway because it looked so good.) It's friendly for all crowds and offers a variety of choices on the menu. I visited the Hop Jack's in Maple Valley on Saturday night (1/31) for the first time and you can bet your ass I'll be going back for more. I had the Patty Melt and Fries and almost shit myself after the first bite in pure amazement. My boyfriend had the Philly Cheese Steak and holy balls it was heavenly. Here's what really got me wet: Tempura. Pickles. That's right folks, mother lovin TEMPURA PICKLES. If you've never had Tempura vegetables, get out from under your rock and experience asian food for god's sake. And if you love fried pickles (like myself) you will be pleasantly surprised by the textural difference with a Tempura batter vs a breading for frying. As far as service, it was fabulous! Michelle was our server and she was kind, helpful, and patient. The atmosphere was pleasant as well. Much like a nicer Red Robin. If you ever take any advice from strangers let it be this: EAT AT HOP JACKS BECAUSE IT'S THE SHIT. read more

The first Tuesday of the month is not to be missed. A featured NW beer at $3/pint is a bargain! The beers selected are crafted for regional selection and tend toward pale ales, IPA's and lagers, all excellent and unique. The service ranks between 4-5 stars as does the food. After I commented on the 7 jalapeño stems in my nachos (pickled), my next visit found only 2. Today I found 0. The menu is quite flexible and I was able to substitute and add some ingredients making for a superior Mediterranean flatbread. I substituted pepper jack for goat cheese and added jalapeños and our server explained "no problem." She was right. My wife ordered a salad with chicken and gave it an "A" and she is quite picky. The produce was fresh, the chicken moist, and the salad dressing very appetizing. We find it very easy to relax in this restaurant and enjoy superior taps and good food. We will continue to be a repeat patron. I recommended to the Alaska Air Rewards program this restaurant be added. I can use the extra miles. read more

I'll be honest, this was probably one of the worst dining experiences I've had. We decided to visit Hop Jacks in Maple Valley for our date night. We'd been to a different location and enjoyed our experience there. We were seated and then promptly waited for the next 6 minutes until someone came to take our drink order. The server that took our order was pleasant and informed us that our regular server would be right with us. This was at 8:56 pm. Our drinks arrived but our server did not show up until about 9:07. When someone did finally arrive, she just said "are you ready to order?" No "Hi! Sorry for the wait" or any other pleasantries. Ok. Whatever. I hadn't eaten all day so we just ordered. Started with mozzarella sticks and ordered our main courses due to the long wait just to order. Mozza sticks came out and low and behold they were cold! I thought about asking for another order that was cooked but about a minute after our app arrived so too did our burgers. Whatever. Again. Hungry. The burgers were greasy and the peanut butter on my bf burger was non-existent. We never even knew who our server was as we got 4 different people to our table and not one introduced themselves. I don't think we will be back to this location. We both much prefer the service and food quality of Maple Valley Grill. read more

We returned after 2 years away from this restaurant. We stayed away because we were severely overcharged for drinks and lunch. We had 3 in our party and the bill was close to $200.00. When I asked about the bill was told that was thier policy. At any Rate returning today the service was ok but they now had a compulsory tip system now in place no matter how the service was. I' m thinking it will be a "never to return" situation. There are way too many fried foods outlets to choose from in the area that have much better service, w/o a compulsory tip system. We went for breakfast on a Sunday. Arrived and seated at 10:15 am. My husband ordered and was served coffee at 10:20. We ordered nothing out of the ordinary or special for breakfast. Two people, ordering two simple and on the menu breakfasts. After a half an hour had passed, the empty coffee cup had been totally ignored by EVERY passing server - and we were in a very prominent location (a walk by area, we were not seated in some dark corner). RE: Our server - You could NOT get this persons attention, he was just too busy loading the dishwasher in the bar area and walking around looking totally lost. At 40+ mins, with absolutely NO contact from our server since our orders were taken, and unable to attract his attention, we WALKED OUT. Let me make something clear - We have NEVER walked out of a restaurant before, EVER. It is very sad, when a simple "it will only be a few more minutes" or "thanks for waiting type thing" would have kept us in our seats waiting happily. We were not in a bad mood, or cranky until about minute 30 and no coffee refill....then we started looking around and realizing the place was pretty much in chaos. We saw two separate parties being comped before we left. I know the place is new. I know the servers are new. I also know that this was beyond reasonable. If you are not ready to be open, then DON'T OPEN until you ARE, and your staff is trained. We hear the food is good. We wouldn't know. DECOR: I would give the atmosphere 1 star....dark and gloomy paint colors. The decor is what I would call industrial BAD. The typical overhead track lighting and exposed HVAC vent pipes are totally blase. If you want to go to a bar, this might work for you however. Also - the (4) televisions were set on a golf channel. If you like television golf, this would also be awesome for you. Good luck being served if you are looking for food though. read more

My husband and I brought my parents here when they were visiting and they did not disappoint. Our waitress was Angie/Angela and she was very attentive with us. She gave us a tour of the menu and steered us in the right direction since we'd never been here before or to any HopJacks. The burgers are freakin fantastic and the whole experience was great. With all the hype surrounding Hop Jack's coming to Maple Valley, I assumed they would put forth an effort to impress it's first time visitors. Not the case. I ate there on Sunday 7/8/12. It was awful! Whoever owns this establishment should be ashamed, or at least embarrassed for churning out the kind of food that I would describe as "white trash". How can you mess up fish tacos? I'll tell you how: serve overly-battered, overly fried fish sticks in a flour tortilla and sprinkle on a few shreds of "orange" cheese. There is no pride in what this place serves and they must know they will make up for it by selling drinks in fancy ice glasses. Everyone I've talked to said they experienced the same thing. I've been coming to Hop Jack's since I moved to this area over a year ago. The food and service has always been excellent and they have some of the friendliest servers around, however, the quality and presentation has slipped in the last 2 months or so. I regularly order the Cobb salad and the lettuce lately has looked like it has seen better days and the presentation leaves a lot to be desired. It appears like the salad was just "slapped together". In addition, they consistently forget to include all the items in the salad that are listed on the menu. I want to continue to patronize this restaurant but they need to step up on their food presentation and consistency. read more
