We came here for our first night in Maui, it was very good! Our server Susie was super helpful in recommending places to snorkel and stuff to check out, thank you Susie! My husband had the crab mac and cheese, lets not lie I had some too. There were huge chunks of crab in the macaroni and cheese, and it tasted AWESOME! read more

Good location, tad expensive ...95.00 for lunch..1 wine, 1 Hendricks & tonic, ahi bruchetta, fish sandwich of the day, crab mac& cheese....on the mac and cheese, make sure you love garlic!!! Honu Oceanside - Seafood Near Me - Lahaina, Hawaii

Ahhhh our concierge at the Westin highly recommended this place.... It has a nice view ( course) cool setting Wait staff are nice . Food.... Not so much . Not family friendly food wise really. My teens are worldly however it was difficult to find something on the menu. Nothing was a straight forward dish . I was disappointed with the grilled vegetables. Simple dish they coated in "grease" ...which takes away any health value . Grilled should be grease free or close too. Literally coated in grease like a Chinese wok. Disappointing. My daughter got a Margarita pizza ... Skimpy on the basil and could not tell the fresh mozzarella ? Won't go back soon. read more

Fair restaurant.Expensive. Be prepared to wait at least 10 minutes. The mussels were below average-large cheap type-in tomato sauce and I would prefer white wine sauce. The tomato sauce blocks the mussel flavor. The octopus appetizer was fair, but very skimpy on the octopus. Too much hummus-a filler. No need. The fish dishes were good. Nice flavor and on a bed of couscous. The best dish is the whole fish! I never had better. Baked, yummy sauce, veggies-but $80.00 ? The lilikoi (passionfruit) tart is good- The caramel pot nice, but too small-skimpy. The gluten free chocolate dessert was just ok. The tables have a finish that makes glasses stick to them . The staff acknowledges the problem, but no one fixes the issue? Not a good sign. I tried again this week. Poor service- stale chickpea pupus (snack). The waitress Jill wouldn't come back! I had to get my own napkins and spoon. Very rude waitress with a rude attitude. The glasses still stick to the finish of the tables. The manager said that they tried to rotate the tables to fix it, but it failed to remedy the problem. So she just accepts the annoying problem? Wow! Maybe they need a more detailed manager. She should be embarrassed. I'm done with this restaurant. I will now give them 1 star. I notice less business every dinner. They must be pissing off alot of locals besides me. I spoke to owner's daughter/manager today. It seems a mediocre job is acceptable to her. Try another restaurant-NOT WORTH IT. WHAT A SHAME! read more

My husband and I had a fabulous dinner here. We were lucky to have Connie as our server (she was great) and seated right on the water's edge. We had the grilled Spanish octopus for an appetizer. We shared the Crab Mac and cheese ( it was to die for ) and the Dore Mahi Mahi entree. For dessert we had the raspberry lilicoi tart and it too did not disappoint. Valet parking was convenient as parking is tough on Front St. So if your in Maui this is a must go to restaurant. read more

Really amazing food and beautiful location on the water. Prices are a bit high but no higher than any other high end restaurant in Maui. Unfortunately, prices tend to be higher on the Hawaii islands. But, in spite of high prices, you can still order select items for a more affordable dinner (e.g. pizza menu, salads, chicken, soup). Overall, everything that we ate was absolutely delicious. Probably one of the best dinners that I have ever had in Maui. Will definitely return here on my next visit. We had the ahi bruschetta (to die for), kale salad (surprisingly delicious and healthy), and the mushroom truffle pizza (great thin crust and not "over-cheesed"). One negative...the bartender was absolutely horrible. She was very rude and abrasive. It was obvious that she had a grudge against anyone who sat at her bar while waiting for a table. It was the first thing she asked when anyone came up to the bar....and depending on your answer, she would treat you accordingly. We couldn't wait to leave the bar area and get seated. She had dark hair and was a larger woman (not fat just larger). Everything she did came across rude. As a result, we didn't leave her a separate tip for our drinks and just had the tab transferred (we usually always close out our bar tab before heading to dinner so that the bartender gets a good tip). We felt as though she didn't deserve a special tip. So, then she comes over to our dinner table and loudly announces to our server that she is transferring our bar tab. It was so rude and awkward. She shouldn't work at Honu Seafood and Pizza. She has no class. read more

Excellent fresh seafood venue located Oceanside on the north end of Lahaina. Don't miss the ahi bruschetta, as others recommended. We enjoyed a phenomenal whole opaka (snapper) that was one of the best fish preparations we've ever had. Don't overlook this restaurant. It's a find! read more

Great find for us. Seated on the Lanai. Hibiscus mimosas to start. Excellent maine shrimp cocktail. Very spicy wonderful cocktail sauce. Romaine Salad with fried onion, buttermilk dressing and blue cheese mousse. Unbelievably wonderful truffled MacAndCheese with dungeness crab.(several huge chunks of crab claw meat) WOW. Ono local bikini breeze beer battered fish and chips were great. The pizza special had rock shrimp, truffled saffron cream sauce. Cheese and spinach. Fresh grilled Mahi-Mahi sandwich was great. Overall . An exceptional lunch. Great service. Friendly folks. Knowledgable bar staff as well Fantastic beer list and an excellent and fairly priced wine list agree with the prior reviewer...Foodie quality level They love truffles (and so do we!!) read more

The food here was solid. It's in a quieter area on Front street (closer to 30 and before the touristy madness). The friend chickpeas they give you when you sit down were so good. I want to make those at home. I had the shrimp sandwich and my husband had the opah special. Both were good. We also shared a caprese-like appetizer that we enjoyed. This place does gluten-free and actually had a gluten free pizza. We wanted to come back and try it another night but... ...I couldn't stomach going back there again after I saw what I saw. I realize I sound dramatic here, but it's my truth. We sat by the water and after dinner I saw them all come up at once. Seriously...the worlds LARGEST cockroaches. They were everywhere and they were HUGE! I get that I'm on an island and everything is outside, but seeing 20 or so more ginormous cockroaches crawling on the rocks next to me is enough to make me want to leap out of my seat. And that's what we did. We paid and got the heck out of there. So bottom line? If you are cool with the bugs and want good food, this place is a solid choice. If the thought of tons of cockroaches crawling next to you while you eat grosses you out, be wary and maybe just ask for an indoor seat. Personally, I'm not sure you can get me to go back again. Eeeeek! read more

Overrated! Expensive! And the food is NOT good. There is a wait for dinner and it's a nice beachfront restaurant but the choices on their menu are so random and the only great thing I had was their truffle pizza. We ordered appetizers kale salad, Grilled Octopus, NE clam chowder, ahi bruschetta and pizza.. They were ok, lacked flavor and nothing spectacular... For this price, I would go to Mama's fish house and have memorable dining experience. read more

Almost all restaurants in Maui seem to have a beautiful view of the ocean. What sets this place apart is the quality of the food. This is one of the best on the island. I am still wanting some of those fried chickpeas. Kale salad was really good, as well as the fish entrees. Oh yeah, do not under estimate their pizzas! Very tasty. Try the italian sausage. The prices were kind of all over the place. Some things seemed really expensive, while other things didn't seem bad at all. Check out their menu online. You really can't beat the view and ambiance. Right on the water with open wall to the ocean. As you watch people entering the restaurant for the first time, someone is always saying, wow, check out the view! If you're in the area, try it out, you will not regret it. read more

Connie is the best waitress in the world!!!!! She is SO incredibly attentive, sweet, informative and just terrific at what she does. We came here at 5:30 pm to make sure we got an oceanside table and omg it was sooo worth it!!! It was super hot until sunset at 7 pm but no complaints here!! NOTE THAT THIS RESTO GETS PACKED RIGHT AT 6 so come around 5:45 to secure a good spot. The food was delicious!!! I love the complimentary chickpeas they bring when you sit down! Sooo yummie. We started with the kale salad which was good! My hubby had the ahi bruschetta and devoured it. We also had a pizza - they split it for us (amazing!) with half mushroom and half margarita. Both were equally delicious. For the two of us, dinner was around $100 but well worth it. Our drinks were $11-$12 each; we had grey goose and gentleman jack. The view is seriously unbeatable and the food and service were incredible too. Complimentary valet parking too! read more

We had heard from several reliable sources that Honu was an amazing place to eat. They couldn't have been more right! We arrived early enough (5:30) to snag a table right on the ocean. The service was pretty quick, and all the staff were friendly. I didn't try the Kale salad, but my girlfriend did, and she said it was amazing. I had the beet salad with ricotta cheese, butter lettuce, and balsamic vinegar. YUM! Dinner was just as great. My choice was the ahi sausage pizza, and it was fantastic. Not too much cheese, very thin crust, but lots of flavour. Even though everything was fantastic, the prices were still too high for me to return any time soon. Most of the entrees were over $40, and the drinks seem more expensive than other restaurants as well. Honu is the perfect place for a "special" dinner, if you're willing to splurge. Despite its casual location, don't expect to find a bargain here. Still, it's worth the price. read more

A friend and I came here thinking it was a pizzeria type of place. We quickly found out we were wrong upon entering the place but it was okay to us. The ambience and feel was great with an amazing view of the beach. The server's were polite and attentive. The experience was starting off great except the prices were high but we were okay with it because it's our fault we didn't research what kind of place it was. However, that's where the pleasantness ends. The New England clam chowder came out and looked good, but was extremely disappointing because it was basically a bowl of clams (which I will admit were plenty) in a flavored water with un-cooked potatoes and two slices of un-cooked carrots. This meal would've not been so painful if they called it bowl of clams and left out the un-cooked potatoes and carrots. Next, I got the Osso Bucco which is usually near that's cooked till it falls off the bone. By this time I'm getting a feel for the pattern of the cooking... Under cook everything by a step. Luckily for me with Osso Bucco it only means that the meat is stuck to the bone and just regular pork. Grits were fine vegetables were fine, I guess because after realizing I paid $30+ dollars on Osso Bucco that is worse than any local Ale House at half the price. I was pretty irritated by this point and kindly asked for the check and left. I left a decent 15% tip because the server's and wait staff were all great but the main focus of a restaurant is the food so I can't leave a good review. Hopefully it was a bad day for the cook or something. read more

Order the Ahi Bruschetta!! So unique and tasty! We also ordered a sausage pizza and fish and chips. The pizza had a light, tasty crust and the ingredients were good. A light batter covered the tender fish, and it was accompanied by a mix of sweet potato and regular fries. This was a great place to eat. I'm giving it 5 stars just because it is so much better than many of the places in this part of Maui. At home, I'd give this a 4 - which is still really great. The atmosphere is great, very casual but nice. The menu is interesting. The chef seems to experiment with food, so the menu is unique. My husband and I shared the kale salad and it was great. I had the gado-gado and it was delicious. There was an assortment of veggies and the peanut sauce was very good. I loved how the dish was just slightly different than the traditional version (quinoa instead of rice). This was a great place, and I'd definitely return and recommend it. read more

We had a 7:30 res for a deuce, arrived on time and asked for the lanai. Hostess said, "no problem, just a short wait, make yourselves comfortable in our bar...," gesturing to the U-shaped bar and counter-height tables behind her. The place was jammed, and we couldn't get the bartenders' attention to order a drink, but sat on two stools at the counter along the wall when a spot opened up. When a waitress finally came and we tried to order cocktails, she said we couldn't have a drink and sit in "her section" unless we also ate dinner in "her section." That didn't sit well... the hostess saw that we were being hassled, and straightened it out, but the surly waitress then took 25 minutes before finally delivering our drinks. And she kept the change when I paid the tab, correctly surmising that our tip would reflect her attitude. When we were finally (45 minute wait) seated at the rail, things turned mostly wonderful. Our server was very knowledgeable. The ahi bruschetta, pan roasted quail and the sea bass Dore were terrific! The overly sweet roasted beet salad is made with ricotta, not goat cheese, and the server took it off our bill -- and agreed that the ricotta should be 86ed in favor of chevre (like it is next door at Mala)! The wine list is first rate, the setting sublime. It merits mention that this place has something of a split personality, menu-wise. The families with kids were jumping on the burgers and pizzas, while those of us seeking a more romantic dinner-house experience found choices as well. Honu does the nearly impossible: it satisfies the flip-flop, swimsuit clad burger and pizza crowd, and their elders, too. Now ... that nasty server working the bar counter needs Aloha rehab and retraining, trade ricotta for chevre, and all will be perfect at this waterfront place on Front Street in Lahaina! read more

We had a really good experience here, thanks to our waitress Gerry. She was very attentive and really knows her stuff (as a former chef it turns out). She was even nice enough to volunteer to take our pictures at the right time (sunset). On to the food, now I know why people kept raving about the ahi bruschetta (super yummy). We also ordered the wok-fried fish (worth the market price). The mussels were delicious as well. I would go back here next time I'm in Maui. Tip: Ask for Gerry's table (table 10) -- best seat in the house with a view. read more

I'll start by saying take note this place is not on the main drag part of Front Street, where all the tourists hang out. It's actually 2 miles back down the road behind the Lahaina Cannery Mall. Location aside, the setting is picturesque (right on the water) and the food was divine. Best dinner we had in Maui. It is closer to fine dining than burger and fries which was great as we were dying for some vegetables and salad. On the expensive side but you get what you pay for. We chose the seared Ahi and the dore style fish of the day. Flavours were fantastic and really fresh seafood. You can't go wrong here for dinner. read more

If you local no go here it's over priced and not worth it. It was our first time and the service was bad. It was not even packed had maybe 3 tables and we waited 45 min. Just for our food (burgers and salad). The Greek salad was really good but $21 for a scoop of rice size salad. The fish burger had absolutely no taste. That cost $32 to. McDonalds get more taste. We dined here this month and unfortunately has a very mediocre experience. A member of our party has a severe gluten allergy, so we had spent our week picking the highest-rated gluten-free (GF) friendly restaurants on the island and had great success until our second-to-last day, when we ate at Honu. We had a party of five and were told there would be an hour wait, but a party came walking toward ours as we talked to the hostess, and she brightened and said that was the table at which she'd've seated us. We were taken right back--no wait, so that was fabulous. The GF options are pretty extensive--they have a whole separate menu--but the food quality and aspects of the service were unfortunately not great, and the pricing is really high to have that kind of quality, even for Maui. Husband and I ordered the kobe flat iron steak to split. It comes with Chinese five spice fingerling potatoes, but I really don't like five spice and asked to substitute the Anson Mills grits, which I really love and which the server really spoke highly of. The rest of our party ordered the clam chowder, the Joe's Special, and a GF pizza with pepperoni and sausage (two different options for the same pizza, but she requested both and agreed to the extra charge). Our entrees took quite some time to arrive, and when they did, the steak arrived without the substitution, and the pizza arrived without the requested addition--in short, none of our minor requests were attended to. It would have been forgivable if the food that came had actually been very good. The kobe flat iron is wonderful--absolutely buttery (naturally--no butter necessary) and delicious. I brought the substitution error to the attention of the other employee who brought the meal to our table, but she wanted to take the plate back and replate it. We had already waited so long, and being a trained (but currently not practicing) chef, I did not want to let my whole plate go back to the kitchen and risk it taking another twenty minutes or have a cook get angry about the error and spit in the dish or something. The appropriate thing in my mind would have been to have brought out the grits as a side to make up for the error--they're not expensive and it would have been an incredibly small portion. The GF pizza (which had a housemade crust--so much promise) was bland and cold, Joe's Special (made with local organic eggs) was rubbery and flavorless, and the clam chowder was so bland it had to have Old Bay added to it to make it palatable. No salt was available at the table, anyway. They served the clams in shell, which is a neat idea, but it doesn't make up for a plain cream base--there were no herbs or seasonings identifiable in it. It was pure white, and the chunks of veggies were huge (lots of factors going into the limited flavor, unfortunately). Even the addition of some clam juice to the broth would have been a major improvement. In better news, the server was nice (I suspect it was more the kitchen's fault for failing to read the order carefully) and kept the drinks--sodas and waters--coming as soon as they were empty. She was friendly and prompt. Given the errors, she brought us out a free dessert of four macarons--sesame, green tea, salted caramel, and chocolate. The sesame was atrocious, the green tea acceptable, and the caramel and chocolate delicious. We found out later that they would have been $14 to order, and that wouldn't, unfortunately, have been worth it. Another little quibble: the menu struggles with a concept. There were Japanese, Italian, and a whole slew of other influences all over the menu. Lots of good-looking options, but hard to parse and even harder to know what could possibly be good and what wouldn't be. As it turns out, most of it's not great, alas. If you want good steak and seafood, we had a much, much better experience (4.5-5 star, in fact!) at Kimo's just down Front street a little ways further. read more

Honu is our go to dinner spot down the street. We are vegetarian and it is sometimes hard to find any good options that don't include meet/fish. This isn't the case here. They have something for everyone! We got the brussel sprouts (sans bacon) and the mushroom flatbread which were both delicious! We also ordered a few rounds of Dirty Martinis and they sure do know how to make those right (blue cheese stuffed olives..mmmm!) We usually sit in Jackie's section because she is so sweet and attentive. Plus they have free Valet parking which is nice since the surrounding area is always crowded. The view is amazing and would definitely suggest making a reservation around sunset! read more
