Out of the restaurants I've visited in Maui so far, this one served some tasty food. The quality was definitely there, even if the prices felt a bit high for what we received. Still, I'd give it a solid A- The only real downside was the wait. I had enough time to outline, write, and publish a novel before our server took our order. My family and I did get a kick out of the "Pupus" section of the menu -- easily our favorite part just for the name alone. Umalu is the pool side cafe at the Hyatt Regency in Maui. It serves its purpose and has a decent selection. The prices for specialty drinks are around $21 and the menu selections around $25-$29. We were there for lunch and ordered tacos and an ahi sandwich. The drinks were not very strong but were tasty and the meals were good. Not over the top good, but good. I appreciated that we could order from our pool seats or be seated at a table. We chose to be seated at a table near the bar because they had a basketball game playing and we were able to sit in the shade. Ate at the pool and the food was good. We got a salad and a quesadilla and both were good. The servers were great every day. Service at the bar was fine. A little gruff and more interested in personal conversations with colleagues, but they were still efficient. I'm going to rate up but would give a 3.5. Stayed at the Hyatt and for lunch this is one of very few options. Service and food is hit or miss after eating and drinking here for 3 days. It's by the pool, so it's pretty relaxed. Prices aren't horrible. A couple of the servers were great. Not a fan of the poke nachos. Poke was salty and non a generous portion. Ate numerous lunches here and consumed many beverages as it is located at the Hyatt Regency Maui. For a resort bar/restaurant the food and drinks are very good albeit expensive as one would expect. The giant pretzel hit the spot with the kids poolside every day and the lava flows were amazing under the sun. I had almost every drink on the menu and all were tasty, nothing I didn't like really. The jalapeño margarita and frozen mojito were my favorite's. Ate dinner here our first night and the food was very good, burger was great, pizza really good and the Caesar salad was good too. I recommend Umalu for poolside drinks and lunch but don't look past it for dinner as well. read more

Ehhh over priced food, under whelming flavors although the brownie dessert was amazing. Ate here twice just due to being in property at the Hyatt. If you can get off property you are always better off so you pay for convenience but lack the outstanding food you should get. I had a pallea type of dish one night that had shrimp and lobster...again nothing to write home about. Had the poke nachos and those were actually decent. Service was nice. Food is very overpriced and really not that great/ all fish (kids, tacos) was super dry and overcooked. Ūmalu (shade cast by a cliff), is befitting bc the pool bar at the Hyatt Regency Maui is well shaded. Jun, David & Robert took great care of me. I love good bartenders. Although the prices are very high, I didn't mind bc the service was so good and I was on vacay. I didn't try the food, but others seemed to be enjoying the menu. The total amount without discounts was $50 something then you ask for kamaaina discounts so they took out 15% that percentage that they took out went to service charge meaning "tips" so basically kamaaina discounts was only .79 cents hahahahahaha what a rip off. So if you guys are doing takeoutt or dining in, tips are already included, so don't add anymore. Unless they go, of course, an extra mile for you. Been here on a couple of occasions. I enjoyed their poke nachos with rice subbed instead (pretty much a poke bowl), mahi mahi tacos, and salad with macadamia nuts and watermelon. Service is friendly. By all means this is not a fancy place. It's the poolside bar and restaurant at the Hyatt Regency. However, the convenience was unbeatable and the food/drinks were pretty good overall. They have daily happy hour from 11am-12pm and 4pm-5pm. Their drinks are good but nothing to rave about. We did appreciate them giving us an extra one for free! Can here for lunch on a Thursday. This is the pool side restaurant for the Hyatt regency resort. Food 4.5/5: we got the pretzel, summer salad and tacos. The pretzel and the salad were both amazing, highly recommend, especially the pretzel. It was light and fluffy and the queso and mustard that came with it were great Ambiance 4/5: outdoor seating, great view of the ocean ok shade but quite hot. Service 5/5: very friendly and helpful, food came out quickly and when we wanted to cancel an order after seeing the portion sizes they were very accommodating. Value 4/5: fairly good value, about similar price compared to other restaurants in Hawaii but portion sizes were huge. We ended up cancelling one of our entrees after seeing the apps. We stopped by here out of convenience during our stay (it was one of the few places playing NFL playoffs with the sound on) and enjoyed it so much we went back 2 more times during our 4 day trip! Nice view of the beach with friendly staff, tasty drinks and great food! The lychee margarita is delicious (and on happy hour twice a day). Gluten free options (including the fries, corn tortillas, gluten free burger buns, and gluten free sandwich bread) even though not explicitly listed on the menu. We will definitely eat here again. The only reason this is 4 stars was because the weather while sitting outside was not pleasant (REALLY windy and it sprinkled on and off the entire time). Highly suggest the pretzel as an appetizer. It comes with a few different dips that were both delicious. My group really enjoyed the carnivore flatbread (I think 6 people ordered that and loved it). It is large enough for 2 people to share, just FYI. The rigatoncini caprese (pasta) was also very delicious. read more

The food is good and easy to pick up and take down to the pool side where ever you want to go. It's all pricey especially the beverages and I noticed this year service and quantity is gone down. Like half the fries of prior years. And you need to order on a qr code at your spot instead of having a waitress or waiter take your order. Then they just come drop off a bag and never check on you. I definitely tipped much more prior years because they would keep coming to get drink orders etc. Or bring water. You do it all yourself now. read more

Came to Umalu the first night we arrived to our hotel, and it was one of the restaurant/bars open later. We had a large group of 8 and they were easily able to seat us all together. It had a pretty view of the pool, and during the day the beach as well! Food was pretty good! I got a vegetable stir fry, loved the sauce on it. If I went again I would have gotten the mushroom flat bread because it looked delicious. For a drink I got the mango banana rush, amazing!! Went here after one of the Nashville Nights concert series, which I recommend but it was advertised that there would be southern-inspired food so I came hungry and instead there was a very limited appetizer menu, so I waited until the end of the show and headed down by the pool to Umalu along with many others including the featured artists. I ordered a fish and chips which was not overly priced for a hotel restaurant in Kaanapali ($28 I believe). 3 large pieces which was enough for me to share and still be full after and very delicious. Im not sure of hours every night, but food was still being served at least until 9:30pm if not 10pm. I'm sure the atmosphere is a little different when it's not right after an event, but I would definitely go back. We used valet parking at the lobby and that was very easy and convenient. read more

IMHO This restaurant is located within the Hyatt Regency property. We had a Hyatt gift card to redeem and asked if it could be redeemed here. After checking, we were given the thumbs up! Lindsey was our congenial server. Our party of 4 wanted to use up the whole $200 on the card, so we ordered a lot of food!!! In addition to four cocktails, we ordered Ahi Poke Nachos, $24, Fried Calamari, $18, Garlic Parmesan-Truffle Fries, $12, and Fish & Chips, $25 (we substituted onion rings for the fries for an additional $5. (In hindsight, we should've ordered the Dipping Dots for dessert too, $9!!!) The food was exceptional! Everything was hot, fresh, and super tasty! I was so impressed that I told Lindsey that it was probably one of the best meals we've had while in Maui, (and it was our last day there.) Lindsey liked us so much, she brought out a cheesecake dessert w/raspberry sauce, for us all to share! The only problem came when our very old Hyatt gift card was having issues being redeemed. We waited a long time until Nicole, the asst. manager came out and asked if we'd be willing to wait longer for the card to process or use another credit card. I politely said "We'll wait. We've had this card for a long time and specifically came here to finally redeem the card." Thankfully, maybe another 10 minutes went by, and Nicole returned with the good news that the card was finally processed and redeemed. We still had a $13 balance on the card! Jhoe was fantastic! She took great care of us and was able to accommodate all our modifications. The flatbread could use less arugula and have more flavor. The steak sandwich was a bit chewy, and while the Wagyu burger was good, it didn't stand out compared to other Wagyu burgers. The grilled cheese was good, and the marinara sauce was excellent! I wish you would bring back the old poke nachos with sweet potato and taro chips; this time around, they weren't that great and lacked flavor. Overall, the service was definitely casual and poolside. I feel like some music and additional shade would enhance the space. Although we initially had some shade, I ended up sitting in the sun for most of the time because the shade shifted. read more

It's the kind of good resort food you want when you don't want to leave. It's not just "tolerable". Service is really good, friendly, and attentive. We even added 2 people to our party unexpected so that was nice that they were able to accommodate. Food was good. Nothing too much to rave about, but good for when you're hungry from swimming and lounging. PORTIONS ARE HUGE. You have been told. I got the Mochiko Chicken plate and it was moist but needed more sauce because then it was a little bland/dry. Umalu's is a dining option at the Hyatt Regency Resort on Maui. My husband and I visited in March 2022, and we stayed at the Hyatt. We dined at Umalu's twice and order some food to-go once while on vacation. I discovered Umalu's as a dining option prior to our trip and made a few reservations which I highly recommend. As you can imagine, Hawaii is a highly visited destination at any time of the year. I strongly encourage planning as far ahead in advance as you can. Most restaurants can be found on Open Table or Google for reservations. For the price, this is an easy dining option for anyone. The quality and quantity of food is just right. Drinks are quite pricey, but again it's a realization that in Hawaii prices are higher. Umalu's is an open-air restaurant right next to the main pool at the Hyatt Regency. There is a large bar where you can drink and dine as well as more casual table seating for reservations. Umalu's is open for lunch and dinner. There is a Happy Hour from 11am-noon and you can get discounted selected mai tai beverages and domestic beers. In our different dining experiences here, we enjoyed the nachos with pork as an appetizer. This is a large serving of food, plenty for a table of four. We also tried the fried calamari and the wood-fired pizza. They only serve wood-fired pizza on select nights during the week, but definitely make sure to try it if you can. We ordered the Hawaiian and the Palace pizzas. I would say 3-4 people can easily enjoy 1-2 pizzas. Overall, this was an excellent casual dining option while we stayed at the Hyatt Regency. read more

They have a lunch and dinner menu and a full service bar. We had the Umalu burger with cheddar cheese and a sriracha aioli. We also had the filet mignon with Yukon gold potato purée, broccoli, mushroom bordelaise, caramelized Maui onion and shishito peppers. Everything was super flavorful.
