This restaurant is located within the Hyatt resort. While they are known for their steaks and seafood I did opt for a braised short rib, which was delicious. It melted in the mouth and came apart so easily when going in for another bite. The potatoes were garlic roasted and were also good but didn't have anything that made them stand out. The service was great. I went right when they opened and was able to get seated with the perfect view. My waitress was so kind and went through the menu briefly on the top dishes as well as the ones she would recommend, if not interested in steak or seafood. The truffle fries were fresh and hot and had the perfect crunch. I was obsessed with them. They also give complimentary bread, if you're not interested in having an appetizer. I also got a mango drink which was good and strong, if that's how you like it. For me it was a little too strong but worth the price to make me feel good after drinking it. From the moment we pulled up, the service was seamless--the Complimentary Valet Parking is such a massive plus and started the night on a high note. We're lucky to see Maui's beauty every day, but dining at Son'z, with its incredible view and dreamy atmosphere, really makes us feel like we're living our dream vacation. It's easily one of the most romantic and stunning spots on the island. The highlight of the evening, though, was the hospitality. I was so stoked to run into Maranda at the hostess station--it had been a hot minute and it was so lovely to see a familiar face! The staff truly went above and beyond to make my dad feel celebrated, even bringing out a special birthday dessert (that looked almost too good to eat!) to cap off the night. Over all experience, was disappointing. I would only go back if someone was treating me, and wanted to see the place for themselves. Reservations were made. The place was not busy. Waiter was attentive and tried to make the best of things. Kitchen took beyond forever. People around us that came after us and were ready to make a scene. The food was ridiculously good. She chose Son'z because I love a good Ribeye, however, I guess my lunch was heavier than I thought because it stuck with me for 6 hours and I had to eat light :(. That said, I chose the grilled lobster tail and she went with the shortrib Ragu. My lobster tail ranked right up there with Nobu's and that's without me having an appetite. She loved her shortrib Ragu and after I tasted it, I agree 100%! Our server Caselyn was delightful and does her job with ease. The manager checked on us at least three times as he did with all of the tables, making sure his patron's experience was nothing short of amazing. WOW and PHENOMENAL. This was such an incredible place to dine at. We sat along the water and I felt like we had the best view in the house. The place is absolutely gorgeous. The staff was equally friendly and helpful and also personable which I loved. Our server was truly incredible with navigating my daughter's many allergies, and took so much care in speaking with the chef to also avoid any cross contamination down to the type of oil used in their fryer. I appreciate that level of care and professionalism so much. I started with a couple of non-alcoholic drinks and they were tasty, sweet and refreshing. I had the escargot as an appetizer. As someone who hates clams, muscles-- anything of the sort I was worried about not liking it after my husband told me to expect it to taste like that. THE ESCARGOT IS DELICIOUS. It's like the most balanced butter, herb flavor alongside a mushroom like taste and texture. I wish I would have ordered a second round to devour alone. We even got more butter brought to our table unprompted for our rolls they must know how enjoyable it is. Bacon Mac and cheese was wonderful, Smokey and cheesy. And you know what? The portions were actually very filling none of us could finish our entres. Wagyu steak was cooked to perfection the way my husband likes it. We tried their mahi fish tacos 10/10, the truffle Parmesan fries 9/10, and the wagyu meatballs 8.5/10 Definitely need to come back and try their regular menu items but i would 10000% come back to eat those fish tacos over and over. Area is populated by ducks and black and white swans. Ordered lobster ravioli - which was spectacular and filled with bit pieces of Maine lobster and a tail on top! Lovely creamy sauce to top. This steakhouse does not execute well. For starters, out wedge salad was severely overdressed with blue cheese. You couldnt even taste the lettuce. The food was good. Nothing memorable though. The service was horrible! Our server (Steve) seemed to be more concerned helping the tables of customers he already had relationships with. He never asked if we wanted refills. We asked for more bread; he never brought it - the guy who brought the salad brought it immediately after we asked him to bring it. The salad guy was very responsive and attentive and we appreciated him. There was another table who also had Steve and they, too, felt Steve neglected their table. We decided to have a nice dinner at Son'z but were honestly disappointed. The food was absolutely delicious, however the drinks and service could be heavily improved. My husband and I both ordered the Mangotini, since our server said it was sweet and we love sweet drinks, it wasn't, tasted like straight alcohol with a splash of mango juice. Server brought over simple syrup, one shot glass of it, even though we asked if she could bring a lot, since at this point we where trying to salvage the drink as we could, one shot glass worth of simple syrup clearly wasn't enough. Our server ended up not charging us for the drinks which was a nice gesture, however the service was slow, the restaurant was not full by any means, therefore the service being slow wasn't necessarily justified. For the price point, and reviews we read prior, we had a lot of excitement and expectation, which was simply not met. They also changed their menu, which was frustrating since the menu online is not the same as the one in the restaurant, website needs to be updated. The ambiance is amazing and the food too, but the service and poor bar just kind of ruins all the rest. Remember this being so good from previous trips but we found it to be just okay this time around. The steak was not very good, lacked flavor and cut was just okay. The lamb however was delicious. Sides were good but again nothing exciting. Service was ok. Slow. Not as attentive as we remember. There was a pretty big storm with high winds so instead of venturing outside the hotel we decided to stay within the grounds and order in. I ordered take out and ordered a filet mignon and loaded baked potato. Ordering was easy and the staff was really nice. They gave me a steak knife to use since the usual takeout "silverware" is plastic. I ordered the filet medium rare and they cooked it perfectly. What I don't understand is why I never knew about this place...management needs to up their social media game bc I just stumbled upon it and I'm very familiar with West side dining. She gave us such wonderful service, and suggested the most delicious dishes at Son'z Steakhouse. We all ordered lobster tails, brussel sprout and garlic mash potatoes which were all perfectly prepared by their amazing chef! I strongly suggest ordering the short rib raviolis for an appetizer!
