On our latest trip to Maui, my husband and I decided to give this spot a shot for dinner! The ambiance is really lovely; even though you can hear a bit of traffic from the road, they have great music playing and the indoor-outdoor flow through the folding glass doors is wonderful. The patio section is wrapped by a short fence with plants for privacy, and hanging planters along with fans keep the space breezy and full of good vibes. We started the night with drinks, and the glassware for the cocktails was so cute. My husband ordered a special smoked Old Fashioned with Four Roses, which totally hit the spot! I had a margarita that didn't quite live up to the standard of his, but it was a decent companion to the meal. For our starter, we went with the Italian chopped salad, which we ordered with no red onion. Everything tasted incredibly fresh and the dressing was delicious, though we did hit a few pepperoncini stems, which wasn't a huge deal. Like another reviewer had mentioned, we didn't automatically receive fresh plates after the salad course, but we asked our server and she got them for us right away. For the main event, I ordered the Margherita Classico and my husband chose the Da Kine pizza. The Da Kine definitely packed a lot more flavor than the Margherita Classico! The jalapeños on it were fresh and seriously spicy--our lips and mouths were definitely feeling the heat, but they were so good. While the pizzas were a bit saucy and a little floppy, the crust itself was really good and had a nice, perfect crunch. We wrapped up the evening with the tiramisu, and wow--this was hands down my favorite part of the night! I think it might actually be the best tiramisu I have ever had, and the heavy dust of cocoa on top was a total game changer. Our server, Jade, was so incredibly nice and took great care of us. Terrible experience mostly because of our server - Jade. Party of eight and from completely not caring about our orders for drinks and getting them correct, to pouring water all over, then not wanting to acknowledge our orders and generally not caring and clearly not wanting to be a server, and having an attitude, she was really bad, as bad as any experience the eight in our group have ever had. At the end of the night when given 4 credit cards and asked to split 4 ways, she came back and gave us back 4 cards but only split the charge 3 ways. When told there was a mistake, she asked "what do you want me to do about it". When explained to refund the 3 cards and split 4 ways, at first said that's too many then asked how we wanted to split the bill, all while having the 4 credit cards. She then doubled down on her attitude and was remarkably sarcastic. We did talk to the Manager and to his credit, he came to the table to discuss all that had happened. We do feel bad for the manager as we believe they know they have an issue and he asked that we give them another chance, but this is Maui and none of us live here so it would be a tear until we would be back on island. After she saw us talking to the manager she came back to the table, was condescending and then tried to say she had comped a glass of wine, which she hadn't but was not at all sincere in her words. As bad if not the worst service we've ever received. That said, it's a nice looking restaurant, in a nice location, menu overall looks good. The flatbread and whipped ricotta was very good. The fried zucchini was excellent. Main courses were mixed. Rigatoni Bolognese was good, chicken parm was overcooked and dried out, there were 4 orders at the table, all were overdone, likely as the chicken was quite thinly pounded. Hubby n I went for a late Valentine date night and we just weren't that impressed unfortunately. Maybe it was the noise level which was LOUD, or the tiny table for 2 that had 2 pizzas, 2 drinks, 2 waters and 2 plates crowded uncomfortably onto it, plus formica tables that were odd in an Italian restaurant, the fact that I had to ask for new plates for our main when we were left with our dirty appetizer plates to eat off, or that there was no bread on the table....the first time I've been in an Italian restaurant without bread! Mamma mia! There were some redeeming moments, the gem salad was delicious and looked great with watermelon radish and I really liked the balsamic dressing. My golden honeyed glass of Italian Verdicchio wine was fantastic to sip on, and the artworks adorning the walls were beautiful. However my Bianco pizza was bland with no hint of truffle oil and very few mushrooms. Ditto Hubbs Braised Beef Short rib pizza, bland and few toppings. The menu is limited, and only gelato for dessert. The final factor for us as locals was there was no Kamaaina discount which makes it an expensive night for locals having to pay tourist prices. They also charge a Kitchen Ohana surcharge of 3% so be aware of it when tipping. We were disappointed and won't be back, especially when there are other excellent Italian alternatives on the west side. read more

We had a 6:45 reservation at Muumuu, located in a strip mall near the Kaanapali hotels and timeshares. The restaurant is nicely decorated, modern, and inviting. We were seated after a short wait, and the dining room was about half full. They have a full bar and several beers on tap, which is a nice plus. Food-wise, we started with the fried zucchini, which was excellent. Fried zucchini can sometimes be soggy, but this was perfectly crisp and light. It came with a lemony dipping sauce that really complemented the zucchini and made the dish stand out. We also had an Italian chopped salad and a margherita pizza. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. The only issue was timing. We waited about 25 minutes for the pizza, and unfortunately, my husband received his entrée much earlier and finished eating before my pizza arrived. The pacing of the meal was definitely off. That said, they've only been open about a month, so I'm willing to give them some grace as they work out the kinks. Both dishes were good and flavorful, though neither stood out as particularly memorable. The biggest disappointment was that the pasta arrived only lukewarm, especially after a fairly long wait for our food. Service was also just average--nothing particularly wrong, but not especially attentive or polished either. We initially wanted to go to Taverna for our last dinner in Maui but the menu at MuuMuu just had more options we liked. We booked a party of 6 on a Friday night with open table. We were 10 minutes early for our reservation and they sat us within a few minutes. The staff, omg! Everyone was so nice! The service, communication, food, quality and presentation were on point. Restaurant has a great vibe and I just enjoyed being in there. Food was fresh, great quality, portions were nice. Italian can be heavy, not this place. Fresh and good flavors. Tried to get the earliest reservation for dinner via Open Table. Got 5:15pm. Was hoping to get something before the end of happy hour, last order must be placed by 4:45pm. We arrived just before the last call and got seated at the bar, even though the tables were all prepped and they had a full compliment of staff. It turned out to be a great thing. We started chatting with bartender Maui-boy Argus, he recommended the Zucchini Fritte and Nonna's Meatball. The breading for the fried zucchini was excellent The zucchini was cut paper-thin, so much so that I couldn't ready tate it. The star was the crispy panko and Parmesan breading with the lemon aioli. The meatball and sauce were tasty, but came out lukewarm so we asked them to reheat it. Came back warm but not hot. The texture of the meatball was different. It was so finely ground that it had the consistency of a firm Pâté. I ordered the Linguine Di Mare. The pomodoro sauce was freshly made and very tasty. I ordered it medium-spicy. I could have handled more spiciness but it was fine. The linguine was fine, The seafood consisted of shrimp (4), maybe 16/20 size, and little larger scallops (3). Definitely frozen, but ok. The portion size was fine for the price. My wife was thinking if getting the Zucchini pizza, but asked Argus for his opinion, which was the Bianco. What a great recommendation! One of the best pizzas I've ever had. The onion and mushroom were al dente, the cheese was melted perfectly and the crust was soft and chewy, not crispy at all, which was fine with me because they don't serve bread, free or paid, so I used the pizza crust to sop up every drop of the pomodoro sauce. We ordered raspberry gelato to cleanse our palate. Unfortunately they don't offer any discounts...yet. She said they probably will offer a kama'ainan discount in the future, which I thought was odd. I would have thought that you offer discounts up front to drive traffic, especially since they only opened a couple of months ago, then cut back when you're successful but.... They said they do offer a buy X pizzas and get the Yth for free. Bottom line... We were very happy with the atmosphere, the staff and the food. The prices were probably are lower than comparable restaurants in the resort areas. It helps that the owner of the restaurant group is also the owner of the strip mall that the restaurant is located in. If or when they offer a kama'aina discount, this will make the place a must go to...frequently, and worth the 1-hour drive to the west side from it home in Pukalani. My one big recommendation... Make your bread available for sale. It is so good and must have with Italian food. "Buon appetito" I told my wife it reminded my of the old Jacque's in Paia, where he focused on creating high quality sauces and used ok quality, lower priced seafood, so he could keep the prices very reasonable. I loved going there. He also hand-painted the walls with whimsical art, as time allowed. He also later put in a sushi bar with I recall sushi chefs Hiro, now of Nuka fame and formerly of Teruya's in Wailuku in the 80's and Tim of Kah Sushi, formerly of Hali'imaile General Store in the 90's. Had reservations for a random Wednesday night, it was pretty empty. Place was nice, although the patio area was a bit chilly but not too bad. They do a good job of making the place nice considering it's in a random plaza. The food was good. The Bolognese was to die for, tasted like the ones I've had in Italy. Definitely a must have. This cozy spot, Street feels like a warm hug from Nonna herself--rustic yet refined, with the kind of ambiance that makes you linger over some red wine or in my case a yummy dirty martini, even when your plate's cleared. We dove in with the Sausage Pizza, a wood-fired masterpiece that's basically a flavor bomb in crust form. The thin, chewy base was dotted with house-made fennel-spiked sausage, broccolini and a generous scatter of fresh mozzarella that pulled like taffy. It arrived piping hot, with that perfect char from the oven that screams "we take our dough seriously." One bite, and you're transported--to a sun-drenched trattoria. Pro tip: we shared in our party of 2 otherwise, brace for that happy food coma. But the real showstopper was the Pasta Bolognese, a rich, slow-simmered ragù of ground beef, pork, and tomatoes twirled strips of fresh mozzarella. It was hearty without being heavy. Could have been a little hotter. we were definitely satisfied with our shared choices. Our neighboring table order the meat all's whick looked delicious as they confirmed it was. They ordered the same pizza which the bottom was a little burnt but the waiter who was awesome took care of it right away. He brought back a perfectly done pizza. With her perfectly made dirty martini's with 3 olives. She's got that rare bartender magic: attentive without hovering, we watched her help clear tables and get them ready for other guests. Their team was attentive to each table. Their manager seemed a little stressed and not the most friendly. Needs to learn table touches like his awesome staff. Muumuu was a disappointment. We arrived on time for our 7pm reservation, were seated at 7:20pm, placed our order at 7:30pm, and got our food after 8pm. The restaurant was clearly understaffed and disorganized. The food was mixed: (1) the zucchini pizza was delicious, with freshly made pesto and a crunchy crust; (2) the chopped salad was missing chickpeas and tomatoes; and (3) the seafood linguine was simply a swirl of pasta with spaghetti sauce and one scallop, 2 shrimp, and 3 clams on top, served lukewarm. To top it off, the music was way too loud. Part of my frustration is due to the fact that Hawaii prices are so high. While this is expected and understandable, it makes mediocre experiences such as this one really sting. read more

I don't think I ate better food at any point during this trip to Maui. Rosemary flatbread with whipped ricotta was sublime! I had a caprese salad with burrata and basil and balsamic. 100% would recommend this new restaurant. Such a great menu. We had a hard time deciding what to order from the appetizer/salad to the entree. We started with the whipped ricotta bruschetta and a nice bottle of Montepulciano. My husband wasn't that hungry and we have been eating a lot of fish lately so he ordered the spaghetti and meatballs. We are Italian so we are pretty critical of Italian cuisine. He said it was really good. And would order it again. So that's saying something. I ordered the rigatoni bolognese. It was piping hot and excellent. It was a short rib and sausage ragu. So tasty. The portions were generous and my husband asked for extra sauce when he ordered and it really wasn't needed. The service was excellent and there's a nice vibrant atmosphere. Only suggestion would be to offer some sort of bread option as the sauce is too good to waste and a rich chocolate dessert for the red wine. We will definitely be back either before we leave or when we come back to Maui. PLEASE give this restaurant a try. You won't be sorry. read more

We REALLY wanted to like this place. It is less than a mile from our home and could have been a weekly stop. Unfortunately, they just can't seem to figure out customer service. We have now eaten here 4 times and every time have had an issue. First and foremost, always check your bill. The first time we went here we checked our receipt and found that we had been double billed for our appetizer. We decided it wasn't a big deal and didn't go back to complain. The second time we ate here we were double charged for our beverage and didn't not receive a full dessert. This time we complained and the manager responded. We thought it was resolved and made a third reservation with the manager. On that visit the food was OK, but we were disappointed that no effort was made to remedy the past errors (ie, complimentary beverage or appetizer to compensate for the previous overcharging). Tonight we decided to give it a final chance and went down for happy hour snacks. Website states Happy Hour is 3-5pm. We purposely went at 4:45 so we could order a couple of apps, and then order our main meals off the regular priced menu at 5:00. After we were seated we asked for the Happy Hour menu and were told it would not be honored. We asked what the hours were and were told 3-5. We showed our watch that it was 4:45 and were told that they "decided" to stop serving Happy Hour food at 4:45. To be clear...this has nothing to do with the money, it is the principle of the matter. We've now been to the new restaurant MuuMuu twice in three days and have thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience both times. Their menu has something for every taste. MuuMuu's pizza has a very unique and flavorful thin crust and their Caprese salad and chopped salads are the best on the island. BTW, this is a commentary from full-time residents of Maui that have had the chance to frequent most other Italian restaurants on Maui. Their appetizer olives and meatballs are out of this world!! We haven't had the chance to have their pasta dishes yet but have seen them go by to other tables and they looked and smelled fantastic! This restaurant has been open for three weeks to date and because of its great food word is out and reservations are highly recommended. Word of caution, because of its rising popularity, don't be in a great rush, order your libations, kick back and enjoy your drink, I promise the quality and taste of the food will make your slight wait worthwhile.
