My heart is so happy when I see Lahaina businesses open again! Penne Pasta Cafe reopened with a food truck in Napili a few months ago. Finally made it over and they did not disappoint! The baked penne is vegetarian and delicious! My favorite pasta on island! The cheesy garlic bread looks like a grilled cheese but I can't even...it's melt in your mouth garlicy, cheesy deliciousness! I don't think they have the full menu available but they have many options of pasta, sandwiches and pizzas and they have specials sometimes too. They are so sweet too! Definitely go see them and grab some food to go at the new location! read more

I ordered a penne in red sauce and broccoli. It was fine. Over salted but edible. Good option for Italian if you're in Lahaina especially for decent vegetarian options. You need to order at the counter before you sit down. As far as I know, this is a food truck near Taquereata and Superstars. This place is DELICIOUS. For no reason at all, this place is prepped for pasta war and it's looking to win. The open face meatball sandwich and the open face egg plant Parmesan sandwich can't be missed. The taste is authentic and the portion sizes are amazing. One of the best we have had anywhere in the US. The pizza and pesto linguine were really top class. Panne Cotta was totally the icing on the cake. Some of the best we have ever had. Amazing homemade ingredients. Such a hidden gem. We had the focaccia bread, it was toasted with a Herb oil and balsamic with a Herb blend that was an absolute flavor bomb. The best I have ever had. I really wanted to like this place, I really did, but when you serve a captive customer base I guess you can let quality standards go by the wayside. I've had Chicken Marsala from LA to Manhattan and many points in between, this was by far the worst I've ever had. The pasta and so called Marsala wine sauce was screaming for salt, there was basically no hint of Marsala wine in the sauce. A proper chicken marsala should have a boat load of mushrooms, not here, it had what I would say is one mushroom. Maybe the other items on the menu are better, but DO NOT order the chicken marsala.I never send food back to the kitchen that I complained about, there is always at least one 'spitter' in every restaurant if you know what I mean. read more

Exceptional food. I ordered the eggplant parmesan and it was wonderful. Oven baked fresh and super hot (still bubbling). The owner was a little rough around the edges but once I made small talk about the Dodgers he cheered up. His teenaged son was our server and he was a great server and very funny. I wish they had better visibility so that they could capture the foot traffic from Front Street. People wait 90 mins for pizza from the Lahaina Pizza Co and Penne Pasta offers way better pizza. This place was just ok. We came at prime dinner hours and there were only 3 tables in the restaurant so, maybe that should have been a clue. You order at the counter. They had a decent menu. Prices were ok. The gal taking our order was very nice. It took awhile for us to get our food. Three groups came in after us and they were served first, which was frustrating. Our table had fettucine alfredo (3/5 stars), pepperoni pizza (3/5), broccoli and penne (4/5), salad and macaroni salad (3/5 stars, and baked ny style penne (2/5). The baked ny style penne is supposed to be their signature dish but it was just bland. I salted it, I put pepper flakes on it, and still not much flavor. Portion sizes were ok except for the macaroni salad, it was literally two bites and gone. We sat outside which was nice but we did get a few bug bites. Parking is easy and free in the lot behind the restaurant. I dunno, maybe we would go back but it won't be the first on our list. read more

Enjoyed lunch here today very pleasant casual outdoor seating. Had a Caesar salad with homemade croutons and homemade Caesar dressing that was creamy with just the right amount of garlic. Had the spaghetti with meatballs, meatballs were terrific, lean and not too spicy. Also had the roasted butternut squash, a whole half of a large butternut squash roasted with slivered almonds and spices perfectly done. And a side of broccoli with roasted garlic. Very reasonable prices. Couldn't eat everything so I took some of it home. When I was putting the butternut squash into my to go container I noticed that there was freshly melted butter at the bottom of the dish, real butter, Yum! Well done! My sister's go-to spot when we've had enough of Local Food and spam musubi's. It delicately tucked near the church and coffee spot we go too... Friendly owner (Juan) and perfect portions. My sis loves their linguine clam... and I often get their penne broccoli with chicken. My meal is always taste and the pasta just cooked right. The chicken grilled... tasty. My token complain: can you please add more than 4 broccoli pieces onto my pasta? I know they're not expensive so why cheap out on portions? I also have to disagree on some Yelpers... I don't think it's a touristy spot b/c its not on Front St and most of the patrons that we saw go in... would have some type of conversation interaction with Juan and sounded like they're locals. To each their own I guess... I do know one thing... since we come to the island 6+ in a year... I'm pretty sure we're coming back! Atmosphere: slightly awkward.. but we did sit inside. Food: not bad! We looked at the reviews ahead of time and I really wanted fettucino alfredo even though I saw a review that it is bland. It was a little bland, but I appreciated that it wasn't too thick leaving me sick afterwards. I added the garlic shrimp which are huge and delicious! As for the pasta, it's nothing that salt and pepper can't fix. My husband got the baked penne and that was great. If you're looking for somewhere to eat without having to wait (which anything 4 stars and above on Yelp in Maui you will wait at least 1 hr), this place will do for any evening. We also ordered the pest linguni, baked Penne NY and chicken parmesan. It tasted like they didn't salt the water for the pasta. We used a whole container of parmesan cheese and quite a bit of salt to get the flavor up. It did help the pesto and I can tell the baked Penne meat sauce had outstanding potential but was badly underseasoned. The chicken parm, the tomato sauce was very bitter. Some salt and just a tad bit of sugar would have brightened it up. Hate giving restaurants bad revues but penne pasta cafe needs just some slight adjustments to up it's game. read more
