We walked in on a Wednesday evening without a reservation- luckily they had ample space and were able to accommodate us. The staff was excellent. They checked in frequently, and the food was pretty prompt. Food - The ahi tartare had some chips in between the ahi, and the whole thing was plated on some oil + wasabi sauce. I thought the sauce was complimentary to the ahi, and was not overwhelmingly strong. The tortellini was my favorite - the prosciutto add on (+$4) is a must! It was the most flavorful part of the dish. The tortellini sit on some pesto sauce, but I think the dish would've been a bit bland without the pop of saltiness from the prosciutto. The tiramisu had a pretty strong coffee flavor. I think I'm more used to the tiramisu from Asian bakeries, in which the flavor is more light and airy. This one was neither, but coffee lovers would likely really enjoy it! They provided complimentary bread as well with some fluffy butter on the side. The bread seemed to be overly toasted - it was hard to bite and the texture was not very soft. When my husband mentioned that the bread might be overcooked, the server said the bread was cooked fresh every day and seemed to be offended by the comment. Anyway, we didn't mean any harm. Just maybe toast the bread a little less? All in all, it was a nice place to dine in for an evening. Would be nice to have a glass of wine next time! read more

Stopped by for quick dinner at this expensive upscale restaurant soo close to my hotel. Got the most Maui perfect seat watching the sun set on the mountain before me while I waited for my angel hair pasta. The restaurant is huge with different kinds of seating- you can choose to be at the bar, inside, or there is a more private little corner with paintings for a more romantic setting, and ofcourse outdoor which I chose - right opposite the setting mountain. They have plenty of vegetarian options . My pasta had only spinach, and for an additional $2, I got to add more spinach. The pasta came piping hot with spinach, cherry tomatoes, pine nuts. Cheese and Red chili flakes were given on the side. It was simple yet flavorful and very filling. Loved it. Service was excellent. Very polite and patient. We selected this place mostly on the basis of its proximity to the airport. Turns out it was pretty good. We really liked the house made ravioli. The pizza which on happy hour special was mediocre to poor. Wine selection was interesting on the menu but half of the choices on the menu were missing when it came to ordering. Service was more than we expected and we had lenghty conversations with the staff about Colorado skiing/visiting. Ambiance was pleasant with white tablecloths and lots of tables and perhaps a dozen waitpersons, pretty big operation. Our server, Jessie was amazing, gave us bread, started an app and beverages, only then talked about dinner specials and things she enjoyed. She was amazing! We had focaccia bread, garlic/pine nut steamed spinach, Caesar salad, lamb skewers, scallops and clams over risotto and chicken parmigiana (this usually comes on a bed of potatoes but we subbed pasta), tiramisu and creme brulee. Everything was excellent! The space can be dim and a bit loud if the bar is full, which it was. Local here- we used to go for multiple special occasions. Only been twice since the new owners and won't be back. Gone are the carafes and most of the happy hour deals, gone are 90% of the bar selections, gone are portions big enough for a take-away box, and and gone is a chunk of the menu. Server told the table they have red and white wine- one person asked for a dry white and was told, "we're out." The other asked for red and was asked, "what grape?" ...grape? Took four tries to order other drinks as the selection was so sparse. Brussels were singed to a crisp (everyone at the table tasted and agreed!) and there wasn't a sprout on the plate, just a pile of burnt leaves remaining (see photo). $18 worth of burnt leaves. At the end we learned bill splitting is limited (ok fine, we will work it out) but as we were doing the math, the server was less than polite at letting us know how to be more prepared "next time." We were all shocked at the decreased portion sizes and there was a noticeable lack of flavor. Oh, and be prepared to pay for the bread...which comes with butter only (oil is now an up-charge ). Lastly, some of our group sat at the bar before our reservation and the fruit flies so were so, so bad- they literally had to keep their wine glass covered with a napkin. Backed up drain? I am shocked I haven't come here sooner, it's so lovely. The pasta dishes were great and large portions for leftovers. I really enjoyed my butter sage ravioli, although it's definitely a specific palette (sage can just be really in your face). The reason my experience lost a star is because the service all night was really bizarre. I'm not sure if they just got scolded for not clearing dishes or something because they repeatedly were trying to take dishes we were not done with. Our garlic bread came out before we received the small share plates, and then they tried to clear the plates before we were done with the bread and we had to tell them again that we had more coming that we wanted to keep the plates for. Then they cleared the regular bread plate while it still had butter and a bread nub that we would have eaten. And we had ordered another garlic bread portion to eat with dinner, which didn't come for 20+ minutes after we were served our entrees, and came out burnt. And when our waitress finally came out with the burnt bread, she had a dessert in her hand, and pretended to put it down so we thought we were getting dessert for the wait, only for her to say "haha just me, putting someone else's dessert in your face!" I understood the playful attempt but it was an odd exchange and left us disappointed. And the Bonanza cab sav on every printed menu is $10 a glass and it was $16 a glass on the bill. This is a well-established Italian restaurant located in the Kahului Shopping Center. There is plenty of parking and reservations are recommended. We made reservations through Open Table. The vibe is kinda upscale for Maui. There is a large bar with seating at the entrance. The restaurant is large and has a private room in back. They also have outdoor seating. Focaccia bread with whipped herb butter is served. To start we split a Caesar salad. Then we ordered the Linguine Pescatore and Tagliatelle Alla Bolognese. Both pasta dishes were delicious! The portions were big. Our go-to favorite is the Paella for 2 so we'll probably order that the next time we come back. read more

To be honest, I sort of forgot about this place. We stopped in last night for the first time in years. With no reservations, we were seated quickly. We made it in time for Happy Hour but ordered off of both menus. Service was quick, the food was good, and it wasn't too pricey considering what we ordered. Foccacia Bread- 6/10, I requested balsamic and olive oil (added charge), that bumped it up to an 9/10 Cesar Salad 8/10 Steamed Clams & Mussels - 9/10 (garlic butter suace mmmmm!) Ribeye Steak w/ Saffron Rice and Asparagus- 7/10 (it was cooked well, it just needed a bit of salt. It did come with a choice of dipping sauce though) Tiramisu - 8/10 Pinot Noir- 8/10 Lychee Martini - 8/10 It's a little dark in there, which I personally like, but it was like stepping out of a movie theatre when we left. This is actually my favorite restaurant on Maui. The food is excellent and the lasagna outstanding. We love so many of the menu items from the pizzettas to the eggplant to the mojitos! My problem with this place is the inconsistent service. It is either really good or really bad. I am not sure why they don't staff up on nights there is a big show at the MACC. I find myself stressing for the server who cannot be in ten places at one time. BC does not lend itself for a relaxing experience with great food. read more

I used to come here ALL. the. time. Then a few years passed and I finally stopped by again more recently with a group of friends for a celebration. We came during their happy hour which includes their popular $7 margarita and mojito carafes. Happy hour is Monday through Saturday from 4-6 pm. They also have $5 draft beers or $7 red or white wine carafes. Which makes it one of the best happy hours in town. Rather than the bar or the tables, we sat in their little 'lounge' area in the corner with couches and enjoyed our drinks there. We also ordered a few appetizers and I also got my favorite dish which is the Linguine Ai Funghi with chicken added. The linguine tasted exactly how I remembered it and was the reason why I used to come here all the time. So delish! The flavors were on point and I loved that my pasta was swimming in sauce -- that's the best part in my opinion. Haha. It is a bit pricey though, but is a pretty good sized serving (enough for two meals for me). All in all, we had a great time and was reminded that I should stop by here more often again. We ordered Calamari which was chewier than normal and excessively breaded. My wife had chicken parm which was over-cooked resulting in it being overly dry. Disappointing. I had Fettuccine Carbonara which had bacon pieces and Romano and Parmesan cheese. This was exceptional and I would recommend it. That was a 5 but everything else we had was below average. The New York Steak was the smallest and driest steak I've ever had, and the Lobster Tail was like chewing on a tire. My girlfriend wasn't happy with her food either. The kitchen had loud music, the bar had music and the restaurant had music, we could hear three different music channels playing at the same time. I really never complain about restaurants, but today I had the worst experience. We ordered door dash from @bistrocasanova and when the food arrived, part of the order was missing. I called the restaurant and was told that there was no order for the fettuccine that was missing, and I said it was on my receipt and I would be right over to pick it up. When I arrived, no one acknowledged me so I had to squeeze into the bar area and ask to speak to someone about the mistake. A woman who I was told was the owner came over said that no order was made. I showed her my rec and she just walked away. A few minutes later I asked her how long it would be and she told me it would be out when it is out. I asked if I could get a drink while I waited, just iced tea, and she said it would be $4 and walked away. The .35 iced tea and an apology, or even just an apology, would have totally fixed the situation, but all I got was rudeness and then about 5 minutes later a different woman came and dropped the bag of food on the counter and walked away. I have not been treated so poorly at a local restaurant, or any business for that matter. On top of that, the portions were small and the fettuccine had no flavor, the noodles were just one huge clump. My husband could not even eat his chicken pasta it was so hard and had very little sauce, and the tiramisu tasted sour. This restaurant used to be one of my go to spots, but not anymore. I really wanted to love this place as I've enjoyed Casanova's in Makawao (no longer affiliated) for decades. The location isn't ideal, but I've learned that ambiance isn't everything. However, the service was unfortunately a significant detractor. I understand staffing is incredibly challenging right now, and I've been there myself, running my own restaurant. It was Valentine's Day and a Friday, but the restaurant wasn't overly busy, and the regular menu was being served. Our server's style was...unusual. A strange combination of hyper-formality and rushed inefficiency. While he moved quickly, he only focused on one table at a time, leading to long waits. His overly enunciated, theatrical delivery felt performative, yet his actual service was lacking. Getting menus took ten minutes, and we had to flag him down twice to order drinks (he began walking away after I ordered mine and never even glanced at my husband). My negroni, delivered by a random runner, was unfortunately not good (erm, possibly even worst ever), and it after another several minutes I gave up and went to the bar myself. We ordered appetizers and mains together, anticipating another wait. While our waiter did check in, he didn't really listen. Dessert menus weren't offered; he seemed surprised we even wanted them. The food itself was okay, but not outstanding (for instance, the sauces offered with the seafood grill were better suited to other proteins so we stuck wit the drawn butter that came with the lobster). I suspect this restaurant might be better suited for business lunches or after-work drinks. It's just not the right vibe for a date or special occasion. I sincerely hope Giovanni (or whoever is managing the place for him) can address the service issues, as the potential is there. read more

I have been going to this restaurant since they opened and have always said I never got a bad meal from there until recently. I ordered the eggplant parmigiana from the appetizer menu and was extremely disappointed. The eggplant was cooked unevenly and was very tough. In the future I will stick with what I know. read more
