Wow...I'd never been here until about a month ago. Hobby Lobby is like a mix of Michael's, Jo-Ann's, and Home Goods! I had always assumed that it was more of an old-time hobby shop (with models, remote control gliders, etc.) and was pleasantly surprised by the large amount of home and garden decor. I only bought two items so I didn't notice the manual entry of sale items. Now I look at my receipt, I see those items are listed under generic categories. I wonder if returns are a challenge? Once I read the reviews I realized this is NOT somewhere I'd want to go on the weekend! NOTE that they are closed on Sunday for their employees to worship and/or spend time with their families. Also...check their web site for a coupon that is good for 40% off one item. When I went a couple days ago I didn't need anything so I looked for a "nice person" to give my coupon to. First I picked an older lady, thinking she could be technology challenged...but she whipped out her phone. Then I chose a middle-age woman, but turns out she was an employee. Then I picked a 20-ish girl, who was thrilled! Ya just never know! read more

This was my first time going to a Hobby Lobby and man, what a strange experience. I'm not usually in this area, but I had a few hours to kill before an appointment so I thought I'd see if it's any better than Michael's or Joann's. I guess it depends on who you are, but it really didn't meet my needs. Pros: Huge store with a lot of random stuff you won't find at the other stores mentioned (an aisle for doll house miniatures, an aisle for model airplanes, etc.). That can be cool if you're looking for something in particular that no one else sells. Cons: They have tons of things I don't need, but do not have common things like tissue paper. What? That is something used in all kinds of crafts. There were tons of staff everywhere blocking off aisles (in the middle of the day??) like, 5-6 aisles at a time...so if you wanted something in that aisle, sucks for you. Even though there is staff everywhere, none of them will smile at you or make eye contact. Not even the cashier who rang me up. He seemed miserable and was going as slow as possible, which made all the lines take forever. When I was looking for tissue paper, I asked a staff walking by if I could ask her a quick question and she replied "No" and walked away. Who does that?! Hahah. The next staff I asked let me ask my question if they have tissue paper, but they just answered "No" also. I had to press her to keep talking just to find out whyyy they don't carry it. Apparently they consider it a "party supply" and don't carry party supplies. Interesting. More on that in a second. So are they taught in training not to talk to their customers or are they just that miserable? I'll never know. So about the lack of party supplies...whatever. That's their choice. BUT, I argue strongly that tissue paper is not just a party supply. I also argue that they could make plenty of room for a small party supply section if they cut down on the Christian Book Store they are also trying to house. Seriously. I also came today to purchase Halloween supplies but they failed miserably at this as well. It is late September and I am NOT exaggerating: they have half an aisle of Halloween stuff, but at least a 1/4 of the giant store is Christmas stuff already. Michael's and Joann's are pretty much better at everything, unless I start making doll houses. read more

I had only been in a Hobby Lobby one time prior and fell in love with some of the decor options. I was in the area and decided I needed to stop in and see what they had as I am trying to re-decorate my home a little. I walked in and it was very clean. I was looking for decorative sand and although I saw a lot of employees not one person offered any kind of assistance or even said hello. I thought that was kind of odd. I immediately found many things I wanted. I ended up selecting just a couple of items and made my way to the front of the store. I noticed a few things are priced high but for the most part it is on par with Michael's or even Home Goods for decorative items. While in the store I decided to download the app so that I could use a 40% off coupon, it was very easy to use and valid on most regular priced items. When a cashier saw lines were getting long another line was immediately opened. I will definitely be back to buy more goodies in the future. read more

+1 star for neat and tidy, +1 star for size and stock (large store!).. minus- stars for employees that don't care to even look up when addressing you, and minus stars for the fact that I called in, asked for a specific product, was told "yes, we have it," drove 20+ minutes out if my way and they DID NOT have it. Then was told a half-ass 'oh sorry, try somewhere else' by the employee who was already walking away as she said it. read more

I am so HAPPY they opened a Hobby Lobby here in San Diego! I lived in Visalia for year and that's the first location where I've been to a Hobby Lobby at. This La Mesa location is awesome! It's near my house and other convenient stores too! So many pretty stuff to look at it! I go here mostly for baking supplies but now I live near one I can do a lot of art projects! You see so much and your mind has all these ideas whenever you see something! From baking, house decorating, painting, everything! THEY LITERALLY HAVE EVERYTHING! read more

Pros: Huge selection of everything. And miniatures (dollhouses), which no other hobby stores have. Woot! They also have a lot of home goods-types of decorative things. Cons: Their sales ARE NOT ENTERED INTO THE SYSTEM. This means that the register associates must freaking memorize what's on sale every. Single. Week. This means that the lines are slow as people point out what's on sale and the associate looks up the items. I mean, this is 2016. Why can't this be automated? I feel bad for the associates. So when you go, note the items that are on sale and for what percentage so you can tell them at the register. read more

Also purchased a knob (they had so many cute ones) for a project. It was spacious, organized, and clean. Friendly associates to help around the store and Judi was an awesome cashier and nice to conversate with. Check online for current coupons! So happy San Diego has one! read more

Hobby Lobby - Perfect words for my kitchen. 50% off Regular $13.99 - Fabric Stores Near Me - La Mesa, California

While browsing hobby lobby for an item to complete a project, I couldn't help but notice the tense atmosphere in the store. A female employee repeatedly announced over the loudspeaker for security to rotate and monitor cameras, sounding nervous and rude. She did this 10 times in the store while I was there! They sent a suspicious individual, down the aisle I was in to observing me. I knew it wasn't a regular shopper. Feeling uncomfortable with the situation and questioning the integrity of the store's actions, I decided not to make any purchases. It's disappointing that a store claiming Christian values would resort to such tactics. If they truly followed the principles of God, his laws and commandments, they wouldn't need to be so concerned about harassing people. This is a fake Christian store. God and Jesus are not there. As I left, I noticed security personnel at the door, further confirming my decision to take my business elsewhere. read more

Guys, get your team all on the same page. I understand reopening is going to be a bit crazy. But my wife called to find out what your hours are. The person on the phone says regular hours, so she shows up there at 9AM. Then at the door you are telling people that only people over 60 are allowed in at 9AM. Well then that's not regular hours. Tell people about these revised hours before they go so you don't end up with a bunch of pissed off people at your door. read more

I've been coming to Hobby Lobby now for a couple months to get custom framing done and I couldn't be happier with the quality of work and service I get. This last time through I worked with Becka again on some framing and she spent hours getting everything perfect. Overall this is hands down a better place to get any of your framing done professionally and in a timely manor versus anywhere else in San Diego. I will continue to come back here for any framing needs I might have! read more

So many great finds. I am inspired to do more projects at home. Just as suggested by one reviewer, you have to carefully check the item for any damage to save you a trip back for replacement, or alike. Nonetheless, the store supports my interests. Huge. Huge selection Huge location Sizeable parking lot Coupons usually available online or on "retail me not" If you're religious, there are a lot of art supplies and crafting ideas to fulfill any religious expression. Awesome place if you're into hardcore crafting but I was extremely overwhelmed when I came here for the first time. I couldn't find what I was looking for (ribbon by the yard) and when I finally found an associate to help me, she just looked at me and said, "Fabrics." When I asked where "fabrics" were, she replied rather shortly, "In the fabric section." Well duh. However, this is my first time in the store and I have no idea where the fabric section is. Thanks for the Christian customer service. read more

If you like rude employees, overpriced items and long wait times at the register, then this is the place for you. Be prepared to find what you need all by yourself. Employees are non existent on the floor, except for the one at the only cash register open, with a line of 30 people deep. If you do find another employee, they will be busy with pallets and restocking the shelves. They are stressed and have no time to help a customer. It's nice Hobby Lobby hires blind people to work. You could stand in front of them for hours and they don't see you. If you do get their attention, make it quick. Especially if you want spray paint. It took an act of Congress to find the one specific employee who has the store's only key, to unlock the sliding glass cabinet door. When another employee finally tracked her down, she marched over in a huff, unlocked the cabinet, then folded her arms acting as if she'd been standing there for hours. I asked her specific question and she snapped at me saying, "Yeah, I really don't know the answer to that. How long are you going to be?" I replied, "Are you kidding me?" To which she said, "No. I have to get back and I can't leave the cabinet unlocked." I couldn't believe what I was hearing, and tried to hurry, picking up cans and reading to see if it would be compatible for my project. I then said "never mind" to which she slid the door shut and locked it in 5 seconds and took off. She is pale, skinny, dark hair, glasses and around 30 years old. I have shopped there on 4 different occasions and every time I go to check out, there is a line of 30 people waiting at the only register open. The cashier is also in charge of answering the phone. So she has to stop what she's doing,, answer the phone, place them on hold, then goes in the PA saying so and so, you have a call on line 1. Lots of time nobody picks it up and it gets rerouted back to her. I don't understand why they have 6-8 registers but only one is open. read more

Absolutely love this store!! I think it's cheaper than Michael's and has way cuter items. I was looking for girly, classy items to make a diy makeup brush holder and decorate my new vanity and I found everything I was looking for and then some!! I caught most things on sale (50% off) and used a 40%off coupon. Score!! I also love the scripture verses and God honoring theme of the store. They'll get my money for that! I have to take away one star because the employees aren't all that friendly. Christian business doesn't mean Christian employees but I'll continue to shop there anyways. Thank you Hobby Lobby for honoring Christ through your store! read more

Hobby Lobby - DIY makeup brush holder and flower arrangement. I love the lace pattern! Yes!! - Fabric Stores Near Me - La Mesa, California

Stop stocking shelves and doing inventory during peek hours! Just went in there to grab some hardware and the entire isle is closed because they are doing inventory. Employees clearly see me standing there and turn the other way. This is now the 4th time i've gone into this store to grab something and isles are closed. Its clear that their main concern is to task all day. But if corporate placed a bigger emphasis on costumer service it would create for a win win for everyone. read more

I called twice to see if there was an item in stock. The first call I was hung up on after I said hello but figured it was a mistake. The second time I called, I wasn't even sure if it was Hobby Lobby at first. The guy answered with just hello like it was his personal phone. I asked if I called Hobby Lobby he just said yes like I should know. Not how can I help you or anything like it. Poor customer service. I'll just find what I need somewhere else. read more

Went to store in La Mesa, Ca today. Had my Hobby Lobby App open and coupon ready at checkout counter. The young woman scanned my phone and said the coupon wasn't good, it must have expired. The expiration date was September 7th and today is the 6th. I told her that the coupon was not expired, even showed her the date on my phone. She said the coupon on the App didn't work. Done. Didn't offer to get the manager, just looked at me and said it didn't work. I left my purchases on the counter, told her I'd go to Michael's instead and she just stared at me. 093 / 100 - 2017 YELP 100 CHALLENGE. My co-workers and I like stopping by on our lunch breaks when we get the chance. This is definitely one of the biggest Hobby Lobby stores that I've been in and it's well-organized and great - definitely a lot of stuff to get through and see! As a crafter, I love looking through their section of fake flowers, fabrics, and art supplies. There have been times where I didn't feel like waiting 2-days for my Amazon prime to get to me, so I've gone looking for specific things in Hobby Lobby and have always walked out with them. I'm planning to take a longer look at their fabrics sometime soon as the ones I saw were really great. Perfect for the cosplays that I've had in mind bahahaha. The nice thing about Hobby Lobby is that they're always sending you coupons, too! In another comment someone mentioned that it can be tough to find an employee on the floor and I agree. I think the reason why they're so scarce (at least when I go) is because they're all manning the registers and trying to make the lines go as quickly as possible lmao. Everyone likes to go to Hobby Lobby on their lunch break I guess! Definitely a great place to check out if you are looking for craft supplies! read more

I love Hobby Lobby, and this store has such a good selection, but I must say that the service in this store could use improvement. I didn't even need any help in the store, I only purchased one thing, and I was treated as such a nuisance. Cashier had an attitude as I tried to help her locate the price on my item. Then the employee cleaning at the front of the store exasperatedly told me to use the other door to exit, as if I was supposed to know that. This experience just left me with a bad taste in my mouth. The first Hobby Lobby in San Diego! And all those crafters are freaking out! Location: In my hood of La Mesa. Conveniently located in the middle of Ross and Walmart Neighborhood Market. Décor: Some competition Michaels and Joann's have! Their store is huge! The sales are awesome, so keep checking out their weekly deals! Also, you are able to upload their app and get those 40% off coupons! Service: Always so nice! Since they just recently opened up the employees really know the layout of the store. THEY. MANUALLY. ENTER. EVERY. ITEM. AT. THE. REGISTER. NO JOKE ON THIS SHORTCOMING. I really love this store, but after you find yourself spending about an hour roaming every possible aisle that suits your interest as you load your cart with everything you may or may not need, it becomes incredibly painful to have to wait in one of the very long lines to pay for all of it. Please invest in technology, Hobby Lobby and you'll earn your fifth star from me. Seriously. In the meantime, if I *really* need options for my arts & crafts needs, I will continue to trek to East County and make that 22.2 mile drive to get my supplies since I really love the options available at this store. Unfortunately, I'd have to go on a Saturday since they're closed on Sundays (a mid-week visit is simply out of the question) as their signage says, so their employees can be with their families and worship. To mentally prep you on your trip to Hobby Lobby... - go to their website on your smart phone and have the 40% off one regular price item coupon ready to go (simply show the cashier and save a tree by not printing a paper coupon), - be ready to deal with some crowds; this goes for the parking lot as well since it's nestled right between a Ross & Walmart, - be ready to find yourself buying the most random stuff that you didn't think you needed, but somehow it finds its way into your cart (we ended up with a bright orange, nylon 'Team Jesus' drawstring bag), - be ready to wait in line for a while due to the cashiers having to manually enter EACH item you purchase...one. by. one. That pretty much summarizes my recent experience at their first San Diego location. I love Hobby Lobby, but seriously, please improve the painfully slow check-out process. In this day and age, it was a shocker to see this old school, Price Club version of paying for our purchases...no bueno. read more

Only giving 3 stars as overall...based on checkout alone it would be ZERO stars! I love the variety and amazing selection here and have shopped lots of times. I was having a great experience here today until checkout. Prior to checkout though I had gotten amazing help at the fabric counter. I wish that I got the ladies name as she was great. Lots of ideas and several questions were answered by her. I found many great Christmas items on clearance too. I was amazed how much was still left. The checkout process ruined the end of the trip. Not only were the lines ridiculously long but Esmeralda who ended up checking me out was horrible and rude on top if it. She missed the majority of items that had that were on sale. Then when I mentioned to her that they were she questioned every item even after I showed her them on the flyer. She was rude even after they were on sale. It was beyond frustrating. Then to top it all off after everything was rung up she was out of fives so she had to ask for change. This would have been fine however I then pulled out exact change and she still made me wait for the manager to return with the fives. She couldn't figure out even after I explained nicely to her to give me back my $20 since I was giving her the exact change. Please stop putting people who don't even have basic math skills on your registers. Plus she could barely read your sales flyers to know what was on sake! It was RIDICULOUS!!! read more

Love the products, I'm wondering why the Customer Service Manager has no people skills. I returned 3 out of 5 pictures I bought at one time there. One of the items did not have the proper tag ( it looked like it came from Home Goods or TJ Maxx). I did indeed buy it there and was charged for 5 pictures. I was surprised when the cashier pointed it out. She was very nice. And I got it. But I did buy it there and she offered to have a manager to check it out. Again, nice. The C/S manager came over, stated "not ours" and walked away after giving " the look" to me. I didn't even get to reply to her. I'm 65, and thankfully I don't have to try to get over for a $17.00 picture. I'm sure you won't miss my business. Just know it is gone and people really do care how you talk to them! read more

This is my FAVORITE PLACE EVER!!!! I have been waiting for a Hobby Lobby to open since I don't remember when. This is like Michael's on Crack. Way better. Nicer Items. Nicer People. WAY BIGGER Selection. I wouldn't recommend going on the weekends right now just because it will be super busy since this place just opened and it is now the rave of San Diego (for those who don't know what hobby lobby is). And if it is super busy, DONT write a poor review about it. Come back when you have more time on your hands. And Likewise, don't write a poor review because they are not open on Sundays. That has nothing to do with the company, product, nor service that Hobby Lobby offers. I would definitely give them a shot though. I guarantee you will love this place! Just have a little patience for long lines when they are there! They probably won't die down anytime soon on the weekends. read more

A great location! I prefer it here to Michaels and wished this store was more convenient to me so I could come more often, but my bank account is thankful I don't come too much. This store is more than a craft store. It has a ton of home goods as well and is perfect for holidays; there are always so many different decorations to pick from. Hobby Lobby is a wonderful place. You need a knob for a cabinet/drawer? There's a whole aisle dedicated to that. Various forms of adhesives? There's an aisle for that too. Hobby Lobby is a super organized store with so much to look at. My last visit, I got a good deal on artwork with each piece 40-50% off! Never had any issue with service, every employee that I've talked to have been really nice and helpful. As with Michaels, the golden rule of Hobby Lobby is "Thou shalt not go without a coupon!" Yes, they have a mailing list, but check out their website instead for their weekly deals. I got a 40% off a fully priced item coupon. I especially liked that I didn't have to print it out since the coupon provided a code to give to the cashier, I just pulled out my phone and showed her the code. Super easy! Again, Hobby Lobby is a wonderful place. read more
