I went in Friday afternoon only for 4in cake pans but walked out with $100 worth of crafts and more birthday decor. I love all the selections available and the store is well organized. I had some issues with customer service though and left unhappy. There was a small line of three people. I was last. No one using self checkout. No one at the balloon bar. I asked a male worker if someone different is running the bar as I needed my balloons blown up and he said the lady at the register would do it. OK, no problem. I waited in line for my turn. When it was my turn, a woman came to the front and told the lady at the register to take her break. She greeted me and was ready to help me. We planned to start with getting the balloons blown up but the lady going on break said no, she needs to pay first. OK, no problem. The woman helping me told other customers who had formed a line behind me that self checkout was available. We finished checking out and when it was time to blow up my balloons, other customers needed help with self checkout, kept asking questions and she completely stopped assisting me to assist other customers. It was still my turn. She then told me she was going to quickly checkout a woman with a giftcard and someone else would be there to help me because she needed help to blow up the balloons and checkout customers. I let her know I had another place to be and was running behind schedule, that I waited my turn in line and would like her to finish assisting me. She said again that she needed help and wanted me to wait for someone else to come up front. This truly bothered me because why did I need to wait for the additional support opposed to other customers? Not only did I not have extra minutes because I was already in the store longer than expected but it was unfair to expect me to continue waiting to finish. I was made to pay in advance but service was delayed. I left. I returned Saturday morning to return the $20 balloons purchased and used balloons I'd previously purchased instead. The absolute worst experience. I had a cart of purchases, including a giant shadow box. As I'm actively looking at more merchandise, I hear "move!". I turn my head, and see a worker (Mila) with a merchandise cart, and I say, "I'm sorry. Can you say excuse me?" She then repeats, "you need to move". I ask for the store manager (Aaron), and he comes towards me asking what happened. Mila then lies, saying she never told me to move, and he proceeds to tell at ME when I correct her. He says, "you both need to go and seperate!" As he's yelling at me in front of the whole store, he turns to Mila with a kind tone, telling her it's okay, as if this encounter is my fault. Me, a CUSTOMER, needs to go away because HIS employee doesn't know manners. I have never felt so verbally attacked in a store. I didn't receive a single apology, only constant reminders that "it's my fault, and not his". Absolutely disrespectful. I shopped here SO often, but will never go back to this specific store. I cannot fathom how Aaron is the store manager. He was unkind, unprofessional, and unapologetic. I value other stores, and their priority to welcome customers. But I cannot and will not respect someone so dismissive, without any care of the situation. read more

I had a terrible experience at this Michaels location with a store manager named Aron. I was on the phone with Michaels customer service, and they clearly told him to process my refund, but he refused. He argued with both me and customer service, saying they didn't know what they were talking about. He was unprofessional, disrespectful, and didn't seem to understand store policies. Who doesn't like a good craft store that always has a sale. Not only in store but if you sign up to their emails you get the coupons and he could use on just about anything. Although there's not a lot of staff walking about to always help you if you find one they will. And I like the fact that they sell the crafts that they make although they're quite expensive. You can do the same thing based upon what you've seen for fraction of the cost all you have to do is invest the time. I'm pretty sure they'll tell you what items they used. read more

I love Michaels but I wasn't really feeling the couple close to me. I decided to try a different location and now this will always be the location I go to for craft supplies. The store is in a busy shopping plaza but has plenty of parking right in front of the store. Going in there is plenty of space and you can tell that this is a largo location. The store was well laid out and nothing was on top of each other. I came on this trip for a specific plastic container to store my kids arts and crafts in and I found it right away but I wasn't ready to leave. I had my one year old with me and he loved that I wanted to walk up and down all of the aisles. I know I will come here to get items to bake cakes, do crafts, buys household and holiday decor. After we were done looking around we went to cash out. The line was a bit long but it went pretty quickly. Overall, I was happy with this trip and I know I will be back. read more

Occasionally the lines to check out get very long and slow. I will say, I see them Buzzing for help but no one comes. I've actually been coming to this Michaels off and on since practically the first week they opened but I just never got around to writing a review. It's very well spread out and seems to be pretty organized. Customer service is on again off again depending on who you encounter and how busy they are. They seem to have a good selection and today in particular I found a lot of clearance items for a very good price so I probably ended up buying a little bit more than I intended to. The translation for that is that I came in for one skein of yarn and left with about 6. Michaels always has some sort of a coupon that you can use and if they don't have a good one they accept coupons from Joanns and Hobby Lobby. The disadvantage is they only allow you use to use one coupon per day whereas Joann's lets you use several. I was so glad when they finally offered their coupons on the smart phone so I didn't have to always remember to bring a paper coupon and could use their coupons when I'm at Michaels on trips in other cities and states. I occasionally go to a needlework group at the local library in Rancho San Diego and whenever I am out in this area I always stop by this Michaels and always find something I can use. read more

I like Michael's and Michael's likes me because they had exactly what I needed. I've been wanting to do some origami with my students, so I came by here after work to see if they had some simple ones to make. I was in luck because they had a very basic set that would be perfect for my students and especially me. (see pic) They cost only $2.99, on clearance, for a set of 10 so $9 later, I was set. My only problem was that I am not very good at art, so I hope the instruction are simple, even for me. I guess I will find out tomorrow, when I set out to make my first attempt! We were looking to purchase a frame for a family portrait and that's when we ran into Ana Macias (sp?) at Michael's. Ana was absolutely amazing. She showed us in great detail all of our options. We ended up going with a custom made 24"x36" frame. We provided her with the picture and two weeks later she delivered us an amazing family portrait that everyone says WOW to. We couldn't be happier. I went in and dropped a pretty fair amount of money on some art supplies for a color theory course I was teaching and I bought an expensive Bristol pad and I wanted to apply my 50% discount to it. This big guy with a potbelly and tattooed arms had a real attitude from the get-go. He scanned the pad and then applied the code and then went on scanning the other items. Something didn't seem right when I looked at the total and I checked out the receipt and noticed that the 50% discount had been applied to a five dollar tube of paint and not to the $30 Bristol pad. I went in and showed him the receipt and he sighed and became even more exasperated than before and started barking out orders about coming back in and rescanning everything and jumping through all these hoops. I said yeah I'll do that for $15 savings. We came back in and he end up just refunding us the money for the pad and then we bought it back at half price but his superior and abrasive attitude, well Michael's, you need to hire better people that have some sense of consideration and some basic skills in customer service. read more

I asked the clerk if they still have a military discount and she said yes. I showed my military I D Card, and she asked for a phone number for my account. I said I do not have an account and I have been coming here for three years and just showed my military I D Card. She called her supervisor and said I needed an account linked to my email or phone number before I could receive the military discount. This is unfair. I refuse to give out my personal information so Michaels can sell it for their company's gain just to get a discount, which they advertise and also what I have received before, without giving my personal information. DO NOT BOOK A CRAFT PARTY HERE! Had the worst experience ever this past weekend for my daughters birthday party. I booked the craft room to celebrate my little girls birthday with the "supervisor" Selena. As I was talking to her, I immediately noticed that she was not someone pleasant to work with. She seemed irritated to even talk to me, so I specifically asked her who is the person to book the party with and she responded that it was her and that she was the store supervisor and was always working there. I asked her several questions about the room and she assured me that it would be cleaned out and ready for me. This was supposed to be a simple, stress free party for me. Imagine my horror when I get there 30 minutes before the start time to set up my things and to find that the room was NOT cleaned out or had the extra table that was promised. I immediately walked to the office to find out what was going on, and find none other than Ms Selena herself chit chatting in there. When I asked her about the condition of the room, she rolled her eyes and and stated to me that the room was supposed to be ready but she had not been at work for the past few days. Really???! It would not have taken days for the room to have been made ready. I cannot believe that she would not have even bothered to check out the room 30-60 minutes beforehand to make sure it was ready for us, if she is supposedly the person in charge. Finally, some friendly store associates showed up to clean out the room, but at that point I was in panic mode as it was minutes to the start time of the party. I did not want to be setting up while the party guests were arriving. Also, I had paid extra for face painting and that material was of course not supplied in the room either, so that left the party host feeling rushed to go get the kit, and I felt that slowed down the party. Once things finally seemed to be rolling along, this "supervisor" never even bothered to come by to ask how things were going or to apologize. This is very unprofessional and irritated me even further. For as long as she is in charge, this store is not ready to handle private parties. All of the other store associates I have encountered while shopping here are very friendly and pleasant. And the store itself is big and has everything you need for your crafting needs. I hope this review will prompt senior management to better train their supervisors on customer service. Also, the birthday party service needs some major fine-tuning. I have had two frame jobs done here and both came out excellent and were reasonably priced, in comparison to Aaron brothers. (They usually have coupon deals too more often) I just went in for a third frame job and worked with Barbara. She was very helpful and also considerate knowing I wanted quality but not by paying through the nose. She was also patient while I tried to figure out what matts I wanted etc. and gave me many options to choose from. She offered an upgrade which actually saved me $$, $50.00. I always seem to buy something I may not necessary need but can always find some use in a future project or so. With my impulsiveness aside, I love that there are always Michael's coupons in the Sunday newspaper and also coupons that print out with your purchase. So if you plan ahead of time, you can definitely save some dinero. My only qualms with this store is that I sometimes find the place a bit messy. I guess it depends on the time of day I come in. I arrived at 635pm on a Sunday. Store hours stated the store was open until 7pm. The store did not state any hour changes due to the holiday. No employee came to the door. The door said during business hours the door is to remain unlocked. I tried to open the door thinking the automatic door wasn't working but nobody was there. I will be putting my loyalty in another business which abides by the laws and hours to which they state they are open. I have liked my visits here previously and was returning for a quick item. However I could not get my task accomplished. If you need something a half hour before they close, don't go. read more

So far I'm not impressed one bit. I tried online ordering at Christmas. They shipped one item to LA Mesa and one to Rancho San Diego. No email, no notice and none of the employees even knew where my order was when I got there. Had to run across town in rush hour traffic just to get the 2 items I ordered. Now, COVID-19 quarantine, Easter weekend, I get it. They are busy, however, they stated my order of 5 items, 4 of which were in the same arts and crafts isle, literally one row away from each other would take 2 hours. 6 hours later and I'm still waiting. I drove an hour to get here and at the door, the worker told me to "call the number". Assuming she meant the customer service line, I called....no answer, no one manning the phones, standard message saying they were available via online chat. Try to log on and now they won't accept my password. I change the password and low and behold....there is no chat function on their mobile site. This whole quarantine has been madness for everyone! I'm not expecting much but after 28 days of being stuck inside my house, I don't want to drive an hour to get here and sit in the parking lot for 3 hours! If y'all choose to close to protect your employees then GREAT! Close the doors! If you attempt to remain open for online ordering/pick up only then hire more than 2 people to fulfill orders for the whole county! I swear Hobby Lobby should have stayed open during this crisis instead of Michael's. I've never liked this place much but as I sit here going on my now 7th hour of waiting, I hate this place even more! Finally got my 6 items. The lady would have thrown the bag in my face had I not told her my back door was open. I said 'thank you so much, I appreciate it'.....crickets. Until she slammed my door. When I need Wilton products, this location is the best of all the ones in South SD. There's no mark-ups and you can't beat the 40-50% off coupons you get after every store purchase (same with all locations). They have plenty of cake decorating supplies in stock and the aisles are well organized here. They're also one of the few locations that offer classes. All the other departments are well stocked too, but they could use more Chinese take-out boxes in different styles. Great place to get the creative juices flowing. read more

The framing department has some issues... I took a picture to Michael's to get framed and not only was my frame not done on time (3 days late) it looked like crap. The glass had finger prints all over it, the white matting had black finger prints on it, and there was massive amount of lint trapped between the matting and the glass... needless to say, they had to redo it. To their credit once they redid the frame (it took 5 days) it came out nice. read more

My first impression of the store was the volume and how well lit it was. Not too messy, but then again, the retail businesses surrounding this location are normally in better conditions due to courteous guests. I had called in about 15-20 minutes prior to my arrival at this location, specifically in search of the $179.99 Cricut Explore Air 2 advertised on not one, but two e-mails Michaels sent out as a mass advertisement. The second e-mail had a description of "Oops! Updated Cricut Price Inside of $249", however the picture remained the same as the first e-mail, as well as the description and price of, you guessed it, $179.99. The woman on the phone mentioned she could not find the e-mail, however, if I brought in the ad I saw it on, they would honor it. Lucky me, the gentleman I approached when entering the store was the Assistant Manager, Luis. He double checked with another team member to make sure this product was in stock because "there had been SO many people coming in for this item". I let him know the woman on the phone said there was still four on hand and I would like one, but would like confirmation of the price listed on the e-mail, as it states "everyday value". He said it was wrong and could not honor it. He asked if the image on my phone was a screen shot, as he swiped up and down through the e-mail on MY phone FROM Michaels.com. I reminded him if it was a screenshot, he wouldn't be able to scroll up and down through the ad. He then proceeded to tell me the company had reissued the e-mail that said "Oops!" to fix their mistake of the incorrect price being listed on the first e-mail, however, I reminded him that if that was the case, why wouldn't the company actually fix the incorrect price and change it back to $249? He said they did that with the "Oops". He said the price of the item was $249, to which I replied "Then how is that under $249?". He said it used to be like a dollar more (a whole dollar! Great saving at Michaels! It's too bad I missed out on a DOLLAR savings, Luis!). It started to feel as though this "Assistant Manager" couldn't pull anymore excuses out of his rear end, because THEN he said the image had not been changed in the reissued e-mail, but that the $179 was for the older version, the Explore Air. I told him to please disregard the picture--the description and price was still specified for $179.99. And to be 100% honest, Cricut's look the same, just change in color, so this no longer seemed like a reasonable argument from his end. The guy was clearly fishing for an excuse. Between his condescending tone, bulging eyes while he told me he understood with quite an attitude, I simply had to walk away. I approached a team member and asked her if he was the manager, she replied yes and asked if she could help me with something. I explained the situation to her, showed her the Michaels.com listing for the item at $249, with no sale sign, no indication of a price markdown, as well as the e-mail I had received stating a different price in the advertisement. She said she understood and would go speak to him because this issue was through corporate, not my fault, not his either, but the company for issuing the incorrect price not once, but twice. She comes back a few minutes later and mentions that if it was up to her, she would honor the price based on the clear mistake from the company advertisement, but that he must be in some kind of mood tonight. That Luis was going to contact another manager and see if he could honor it then come talk to me, or I could just ask upon check out. He never came to talk to me. I asked the cashier if she would double check with the manager as to what the conclusion was because the young lady clearly told me I could follow up. He told her he would be on his way out. He asked me if there was anything else he could help me with, I mentioned what the young lady said, and he simply said no, I can't honor it. While I appreciate how visually impactful the store is at first impression, as a supervisor myself, his attitude was not only unprofessional but also in poor taste. If this young man treats his customers this way, I can only imagine how he treats his team members. It's embarrassing for this location to have such poor customer service from their leadership team. Who knows, maybe he is new and needs some feedback to course correct and change his approach to guests? Unfortunately, due to this experience, I would much rather pay the same price to Joann's for the Cricut Explore Air 2 BUNDLE than to support this young mans store metrics. read more
