I have to say that I am lucky to live close to this store and I can always find things that I am looking for... I can also find things that I wasn't looking for but glad that I came across. I am only giving them 4 stars because I have come here numerous times over the past few years and keep getting rung up incorrectly. As soon as I forget to count items against my receipt before I leave, it happens. I get home and notice that I have been overcharged. The first time it ever happened I had purchased a lot of silk plants for several arrangements and I had been overcharged SEVERAL TIMES too many on SEVERAL different items. I had over $12.00 in product not purchased. I was at home when this was discovered so too late. I only approximate while I'm shopping and adding things up in my head, so it seems like it is just "small enough to not feel overcharged" as I'm checking out. This latest time, December 2012, I had purchased 4 ornaments that I had to return and only after returning, did I notice that I had been charged for 5. So I obviously didn't get refunded for the item for which I was charged and never received. This has happened to me at least 4 different occasions and I have never been UNDERcharged, just OVERcharged. It happens when I purchase several of an item. A friend who frequents Michaels stores says that "they are known for this". If this happens just a few times a day, it can be a comfy profit for them. Call me paranoid, but it seems like it is intentional because now it has happened too many times to be explained by coincidence. So: I will warn everybody to count your items against your receipt BEFORE you leave the store! read more

I get dragged to this place with my wife from time to time - but even for a "non crafty" guy like me, the place is cool - they even sell model car and airplane kits! There are toys and kid-centric stuff to keep our little ones occupied, and one thing I've always noticed - the staff here has always been extremely friendly and helpful. I used to come to this place all the time for projects. But I was slowly realizing that this place can be extremely expensive. A lot of things that you get from here you can easily find at the dollar store. They do have a big selection, but I'd rather save my money. The cashiers are always nice and helpful though. read more

When using a coupon, DO NOT buy more than one item. They DO NOT take the discount off the highest priced item, actually take it off the lowest regular priced item. Just says one item, had I known I was only going to get the discount on a regular priced item of $1.99 instead of the higher priced $9.99, I would not have bought other items. Hobby Lobby takes the 40% of the highest regular priced item. Buyer beware using coupons. read more

Not my favorite Michael's but it is in a good location. There is always a lot of parking and the store is pretty neat and organized. I haven't had much interaction with the employees so I can't say much about that. For the most part, I go in, browse, find things to buy, pay, and leave. Nothing outstanding but no real complaints either. read more

Used to work close by other wise a long drive for me but if i'm desperate i would much rather take the drive to this michaels other than the one a mile away from my home! This michaels is perfect! Always find everything i need & more. Evrytime i've gone it has never been so crowded & no long lines! I love how everything (aisles) are so spacey!! This store also has a much variety of items then other michael stores for instance there Martha Stewart selection, wood selection & clearance item selection! Way better location than the stores in Chula Vista and mission valley. The store itself is huge and way less crowded.

I had a wonderful and fabulous experience here thanks to a nice woman named America (part of Aaron Brothers decor department). She was so helpful, patient and understanding! I really like coming here for my crafting needs! They have so much to choose from and the customer service is fantastic. I am always greeted by smiling, friendly employees. I have been coming here a lot more recently than normal since I am working on some projects. I like Joanne's fabrics also, but their selection is no where near as big as this store. I love that the ladies that have been ringing me up know that I am making many return visits, so they have been making sure I have coupons or know of any deals going on. It really helps cause, c'mon who doesn't like saving money?! My only problem is something that may or may not be in their control. I am making cream cheese mints and have been desperately trying to find the Lorann yellow rubber mint molds, which no one seems to carry. I ended up having to get them online. Other than that, I can usually find what I am looking for. read more

I had the same experience as one of the reviewers below, I brough a coupon on my phone which they wouldn't honor, What? I asked them if they coupon match and they said they would only match competitors coupons if you had them printed out. It doesnt make any sense, I left the store with my purchases and no discount for the coupons I had on my phone. I dont even know what else to say besides I will never go back there again. read more

Went to the michaels in rancho san diego tonight. the whole reason I came out tonight was to browse,and clear my mind,so I was there about 10 mins .First I went back to the caligraphy pens, because last week i didnt get the right one, but i had opened it , I didnt bring it to exchange, it wasnt worth it. So, went and got the one i wanted,and asked a really nice guy(your employee), to check that it was a 2.5,it was,my reading glasses i bought there a couple days ago already broke, they all do, and again it still wasnt worth it,I just "ate" that money also,no biggie. From the pen section i thoughtId better get some more reading glasses, (maybe these will last 2 days)the display of glasses, I stayed there a few minutes, trying to find a 3.0,strength, or I wouldve settled for a 2.5, didnt have either.I got a 2.0, then startedto walk to cashier, was hoping you guys had this "poly-morph beads" by the childrens clay dept, contined to register stopping about 45 seconds at the clearance hair bands, paused picked one up to see how tight it would be because my hair goes to my waist, and its hard to find things to hold it. then went to register, set down the glasses and pen, and the cashier says, "where is the jewelry? I had no idea what she was talking about because I didnt look at or touch any jewelry,so I said "what do you mean?She then said "I saw you looking at the jewelry over there,where is it? I was completely offended by that remark , I thought , basically she is in a roundabout way inplying I have it in my totebag or in my pocket).Remember, I didnt look at any jewelry,just the hair bands, so i said that, and explained about the ones I need. Do you guys, routinely watch what people are looking at, and expect them to have it all when they checkout? I politely said "that felt offensive to me, why did you ask about that? She didnt answer me. I was at the regiter longer than normal because the glasses didnt have the packaging . It felt like forever and I asked3 times if she wanted me to get another pair,she just had me wait. If I was a thief, why wouldnt I just walk out with the glasses, or at the very least returned the other defective glasses?Or bring the opened pen back. Im sure people return items that are opened all the time,Im not that desperate, and Im not a theif either. Needless to say my mom, my daughter and myself wont ever again shop at a michaels, everybody has said that hobby lobby is the place to go, that they prefer it.Im wondering, do you think they will ask me at the checkout, where the items i looked at are, i'm guessing not. You were rude and you offended me, and im going to try and just let it go now, but thats the kind of thing thats gonna bug me for awhile because I guess I look like a thief,in your eyes and, you guys are not afraid to ask people if they stole anything. So I've been avoiding Michael's for a while, the closest one to me here in Chula Vista is HORRIBLE. It really left a bad taste in my mouth! But I've been feeling the need to do some craft projects again, and I Yelp'd this location. It is so so so so much better than the Chula 'Juana location. I found everything I need, plus a little bit more. I wish the deco mesh ribbon section had more color choices, but like I said, I found just what I needed. Some of the employees are a little gruff, but a couple that were there this morning were just sweet. I will be visiting this location more often! read more

Fist off I've got to give two HUGE internet high fives to Sara and Paula- you two are my crafty heroes and seriously made my day!! Not only were they having a CrAzY sale on pretty much everything related to Christmas, but these two were incredibly helpful, and super friendly! Paula even walked me out to my car and gave me a hug before she went back inside.. A+ when it comes to incredible customer service! There were also a few other really great employees there today who were totally willing to help if I needed it. The store was totally stocked in all areas, especially the ornaments section- which I completely raided- but was re-stocked by the time I made it back around from the other side of the store! Another awesome thing is how quickly they respond to a line that's backing up- there were only a few registers open when I was walking up to the front and I overheard them calling for back up and employees pretty much came running to help out- made it through a crazy line within minutes :-) I'm very very happy with my shopping experience today, only down side is this does NOT help my crafting addiction! Framing department is very bad at what they do. Dirty matboard, obvious hair in between glass and photo, and management was unapologetic, didn't care that the job was completed poorly on their end, was a struggle just to get them to do it right the second time around. read more

Michael's is probably the only place in San Diego where you can purchase such a wide range of craft, floral and jewelry supplies. I wish the service was better, though. The check-out line is always long, and very slow. I shudder when need to visit during the holidays. Take a lunch with you. But you'll probably find what you're looking for. Eventually. read more

This place has the worst customer service. I keep thinking that if I give it a few months surely it will get better, but so far over the last 7 years it just seems to be getting worse and worse. On my last trip, the only cashier working stayed on the phone the entire time she was helping the customer in front of me and then when it was my turn wanted to continue the phone conversation while helping me. I refused to move to her register until she ended the conversation. Obviously it is the way the cashier's are trained, that the person on the phone is more important than the customer in line. And with that note, why are the cashiers suppose to answer the phone while they are helping the customers in line. read more

Definately the nicest employees of the 5 or 6 stores I have been in...I always go here first!! I am planning a wedding so have bought alot, exchanged alot and have returned alot...never a problem...always great customer service!! The only thing I have to say to all Michaels...have coupons at the register for your customers don't make us dig for them or bring them up on the Internet when most of the time the phone doesn't always bring it up!! This store is one of my favorites. The customer service provided by SOME of the employees, even during the hardest times of the year, is incredible. There's one lady in particular (Jenna) who is always EVERYWHERE! I see her ringing, she helps on the floor, she works at the framing counter. I've even come in right when the store opens and she's there already, helping the restocking team stock the store. And no matter what time of day I see her there, she ALWAYS has a smile on her face and greets me with the sweetest hellos. Jenna is a real gem for the store. Lately I haven't seen her there as often and actually worried that she quit for a while, it would be a shame to lose someone like her. She's definitely an employee who makes customers want to come back. But luckily over the holidays, I saw her a lot more and she just explained to me she's there as often as she can get the hours to be. So if her manager is reading this, give that girl more hours! I have seen her go above and beyond for customers when you have MANAGERS who won't even give customers the time of day. There's one manager in particular, I believe her name is Karen, who always comes across rude and as though you're bothering her by asking her questions. But then you have amazing employees like Jenna who step in afterwards and make sure you leave satisfied with your experience. Who go above and beyond to fix your issues. The first time I dealt with Jenna, I actually thought SHE was the manager and Karen was the associate because she was so committed to making my experience better. The day Jenna no longer works there is the day I start going to Hobby Lobby instead! read more
