The customer service is seriously unimaginably amazing and these people treat you like an old friend or something they help you out in ways. Awful service. My husband and 3 year old son have recently gotten into RC cars and came to visit to make some purchases. My son was so excited about all the things he saw inside the store. There were two employees at the counter nose deep on their cell phones. Not even a single hello. No one bothered to help. I just read the most recent review before writing this. I would absolutely agree with that reviewer. I stop at Discount Hobby out of convenience once every month or two. NOT ONCE have I ever felt my business was welcome there. The selection and prices are just fine for my needs. But the attitude and atmosphere is quite disappointing. I'm surprised a small business owner would allow that in his or her establishment. I will do the same as the previous Yelper and take my business elsewhere whenever I'm able. read more

Discount in name only, this true hobby shop has what you need in a pinch. It's pretty small but if you're looking for RC you should be ok coming here. Word to the wise... Hobby shop workers can be just as judgemental and aristocratic as music store employees and comic book store owners. If you're new to hobbies watch YouTube videos first and understand what you're looking for. The employees here aren't very helpful. I am very disappointed and prob won't be spending my money here anytime soon. Brought my motor and ESC in to get a bullet soldered on. It's was 12 min from closing and not a soul in the place. The guy in the rc department said he couldn't do it cause it would take too long. Wtf... takes 5 mins at most and I even brought my own bullet with me. He said "sorry, I'm slow" ‍ drove 15 mins outta of my way to here that. I was going to buy dog bones while I was here but.... I'll buy them somewhere where there's actually customer service. read more

I asked the associate about an RC Car, told him what I was looking to get into. Guy didn't sell me the most expensive car, but something reasonable and exactly what I wanted. When I asked about extra batteries he again didn't recommend the most expensive one. That's what I appreciate. For a smaller shop they had a large selection of everything. I think the customer service is actually pretty good. On independence day I called and ask if they are open. They answered nicely that they were. When I was in the store overheard 3 calls were asking the same question and they still answered nicely. It was an older gentlemen. I was looking for a Tamiya TS13 spray which was pretty much not available anywhere due to high demand, it was not on the shelves but they opened the 4 smaller boxes next to the shelf and checked stock for me. It was a middle-aged lady. And recently I had my wife go pick up something for me but those items were not in stock, the staff explained to me over her phone what the substitutes are, and she was able to get what I need, in and out within 5mins. Downside though, I would say, they do not have a wide range of selection/stock for Japanese car model kits, or Gundam BUT this is my hobby only, doesn't affect my rating for the store. Background: When COVID first started I decided to go back to model making and saw some of the lower rating reviews here and hesitated to come but this is the most convenient store to where I live and work. After no less than 10 visits in the last 6 months I think I should write this review, not to defend the store but to let everyone know that some might have bad experiences but some had good exerience. read more

Just had a great experience at Discount Hobby (San Marcos store). I had purchase 2 RC cars there about a month ago. One of them developed a bad ESC. Instead of telling me to deal with the manufacturer, they contacted the manufacturer, got the ESC replaced and installed it for me for free. read more

My son and I have recently gotten into rc planes. We've purchased several different models online and have flown (crashed) them in a local park. We are undeterred and are improving our skills with online simulators and actual physical practice. Flying our planes is an extremely fun and addicting hobby. We're actively growing our experiences, and look forward to each low-wind day. We recently went to Discount Hobby for batteries and a charger. The gentleman that helped us was awesome (you rock!). Really appreciate the battery charger he recommended. The guy who rung us up...was a bit gruff. It was as if he couldn't get rid of us quicker than needed. He was more interested in older customers than newer ones. We even thanked him for his staff's professionalism, but it seemed to fall on deaf ears as he swiftly moved on to what I'm assuming was he "regulars". We'll never visit this store again. Doing a bit of research we found that there are several alternatives to this store realitvely close to us. As newbies to this hobby I was hoping that this store would be more welcome us than what Discount Hobby displayed (not including the guy who helped us with batteries and charger, and was an awesome human being! We love you.) To the guy that was behind the counter that couldn't care an f us, we'll not visit you again. We're more than happy to drive another 20 miles for good customer service. Overall this shop is a lot better than when it used to be a hobbytown with different owners. I've bought a couple cars here since it was discount hobby. Never liked the service when it was a hobby town. Staff is overall helpful. Solid selection of vehicles and pretty good selection of spare parts/batteries. Prices are on par with retail pricing anywhere else or online. Overall is nice to have a local well stocked shop that you can walk into and pick up what you need or see things in person instead of shopping online. read more

I have been to this store a few times, great store. I feel that the people are more into RC stuff then models and paints. Very nice people, great selection of paints but I see that some are always out of stock. For models they have a lot more tanks/planes then personnel. Besides that it's pretty good, they also have stuff for dioramas there, like grass, and trees. Very nice store and large amount of planes/tank models. They have a lot of Tamiya models which is good. read more

Went there today, my boyfriend and I have gone here several times throughout the different owners..today's experience...not too great..the guy who helped us, Joe....SO RUDE! I almost put my stuff back and walked out after I heard how he talked to a customer on the phone, not to mention the eye roll he gave during the conversation. During times like this you need to be nice and friendly to your customers! Not only that but he was rude to this young guy who works there and the young guy is actually really nice and helpful. Ever since they changed from being Hobbytown to Discount Hobby Warehouse, they've been absolutely awesome. I'm a member of Palomar RC, and every time I've gone in and seen John behind the counter, he always greets me with a smile and is always willing to chat about goings on at the field. They're also willing to help with repairs and troubleshooting, as much as they can, whether it's with cars or trucks or planes. While their stock in planes isn't as good as their other store in San Diego, they're more than happy to place an order of I want something special. They always seem to have a fair stock of props, paints, glue, and other parts that I need at reasonable prices, too. I'd definitely recommend them; I have a shop just up the street from me that I avoid, and will drive several miles out of my way just to go to Discount because of their service. read more

Stopped in today to see if I could find the wood strips I need to finish up a project. I do dollhouses, but small scale as they call it and use small wood to finish up exteriors as necessary. I've been there before, but I guess women customers aren't typical. Great hobby store. I try to buy all my stuff here, but I don't live close by at all, so it's difficult. Most of the employees are very knowledgeable and helpful, except the fat kid that acted like he had never seen an RC plane before, and they have always had the parts to fix our broken trucks and plane. I still have to give them four stars, because they even beat the Amazon price on the plane I bought for my son recently. read more

Went in looking to get an R/C car last Saturday and there was 2 employees and no other customers in the store. One younger guy was working on something so I asked the older gentleman for some help. These guys are phenomenal. While other hobby stores are closing (Hobby People, Hobby Town, etc.), the Warehouse is growing. Now with 2 stores. Whatever you need, they will probably have it and that, for me, is better than doing the internet thing. You don't have to worry about your information being stolen over the internet, you can actually look at, measure and check for fit the part you are buying, get it unbroken, and take it home without having to wait 2 days or longer! I went in this store with my granddaughter, and great grandson today! Bad idea! The man working there was extremely rude, had no patience for a 2 year old, who was being held. Yes, he got upset, wanting cars, but this guy could've helped by waiting on us quicker, so we could get out of his store, which was clearly evident that he wanted us out!
