I've had 3 experiences there, and I explained to Saul I had been out of fencing for several decades and needed everything all over again. He did that very thing, he assembled a package for me for literally everything that I'd need. I wanted to own several weapons, I ended up returning several times and buying three weapons. One is my home "beater"'that I attack targets at my house, the other two are high end, one French one pistol grip, I like them both, although I find myself favoring my BF French grip epee the most, although I do love my BF ortho grip as the blade stiffness and ortho grip makes it easier to reposte and flick. Sauo builds my weapon to order, and when I pick it up, he will fit it to me and make any changes on the spot. As to Victoria, she is a sweetheart. Super helpful and very nice. I feel comfortable there. Saul is both a coach and Olympic champion, he knows how to read me as to what I need. My thanks to Saul and Victoria. read more

I just talked to Vickie on the phone, she was absolutely rude and unprofessional. I placed an order online and when I received my package I had missing items inside. I emailed and called the place to leave a voicemail, but never heard back. I tried calling back again later in the day and talked to Saul. He knew of this situation and said he would refund me. Half hour later, I got a call back from Vickie. She was on the phone assuming that I received the items and wanted a refund! In my email, I only asked for a replacement of the item so my daughter could get it before her first class next week, I didn't ask for a refund. But Saul told me the item isn't in stock and on backorder so they don't know when the items will be in, so that's the reason I asked for a refund so I can purchase it elsewhere and have it ready for class. Vickie is absolutely rude, she made assumptions on the phone the entire time, til the point I had to ask What she was trying to imply?! At that point she said she would issue me the refund and still imply before she hung up that "if I find it later in my house to return it back to her" My review and comment is just to let others know that if you make purchases online to be careful. It's not the amount of the item, but the common courtesy of good customer service and being a respectful business. If your item is missing, she will just assume you're trying to jip her off. It's now 5 years since my 2018 review. TFP is still my preferred provider for a lot of fencing equipment for a 16 year old who is going international next month. One of the unique features of TFP equipment offering is that as far as I can tell they are the only one from whom you can buy blades with the Allstar screwless tips which is what we use. I buy a dozen BF FIE blades at a time because my 16 year old specializes in breaking them. The website works very well and the selection of everything is comprehensive. Also contrary to the review about Vickie I've been talking with her now for 7 years and I've had no problems. I have not had any problems with items ordered and sent but not received. I did return a blade once and it was quickly replaced. read more

The Fencing Post is, as the name suggests, a fully stocked retailer of fencing (right, the sword kind) equipment ranging from beginner foils and masks all the way up to uniforms and blades for international competitors. I bought dozens of blades, one or two uniforms and several pairs of shoes from The Fencing Post in its early days (late 80s through mid 90s) when I was still actively fencing. You see... Saul Mendoza, owner and creator of The Fencing Post, was my coach for many years of junior fencing. He was a fantastic athlete and coach, but always harbored a dream to start his own fencing equipment store... first out of his garage and the packed truck he would drive all over the country to national competitions. Saul won business from some of the larger suppliers by offering athletes great deals and even better service. I haven't looked him up in years, but I'm happy to see that The Fencing Post continues to thrive. Visited The Fencing Post for the first time today to get some equipment for my son. I was completely happy with how the owner explained what is truly needed at his level. I love that he did not try to over-sell me for things that my son doesn't need yet or the more expensive items. He was courteous, friendly and attentive to my questions; from basic equipment fitting to the more advanced caring technique for the equipment. I was impressed with the items they have in stock. I really appreciate how we were treated with respect and courtesy by the owner not attempted to get us to leave our current fencing club for his. He was open and honest about local clubs. Since this was removed the first time, I'll post again: I felt like this needed to be shared because it happened few months ago but it still cuts me today. I was referred here by my coach and I drove quite distance to come in-person to try on different options for my uniform and lame. I have never felt so body shamed in my life, I don't know the name of the woman who helped me, she was an older lady, and wow she was incredibly rude and insensitive. I'm not a overweight person, which should be irrelevant, what is relevant is that I struggled with an eating disorder as a teenager, and in my adult years I've been able to overcome it, however, there is some residual sensitivity around my body image. She seemed rushed and overall annoyed having to help me. The first thing she said to me was "wow, you are wide and short, it's going to be really hard to find something that fits you in a woman's size." I felt so embarrassed, I've never been told anything like that before, I'm 5'3 and street size 6-8, and medium shirt. She gave me multiple jackets that I ended up swimming in, then, was surprised when I fit into a few sizes smaller than she thought. I tried on two options and went with the more fitted option. She said "that's good because when you get in shape it will still fit." At that point I had enough and said "I am in shape, I just ran 8.5 mile obstacle race a few weeks ago" (which was true). I calmly called her out and said you know, I'm feeling like I'm being body shamed here and I don't like it." One of the other employees who had heard all of this transpire, turned to me and said "I'm sorry." After that, the lady who was helping me became overly nice. I didn't want to buy anything from them at that point but I had drove all that way and I just wanted to get out of there. Additionally, she gave me an extra-large breast plate that was way too big for me, I bought it just because I wanted to get out of there and I needed it, I ended up exchanging it months later for a medium with another company that fit much better. Bottom line, this woman thought I was apparently HUGE and had no issue letting me know. I left there feeling humiliated and terrible about myself. I do very little business with them as a result, I ordered a lame online from them because I knew what size to get and they carry the brand I wanted. Shipping is very fast but expensive! read more

If you are looking somewhere to take your kids for after school activity, this is the place. Everyone here is amazing. They work out your kids and the staff teach them the fundamentals of fencing and life. My son's grades are better. The coaches are firm but they do care for the kids tremendously. Purchased a pair of Adidas fencing shoes (over $100) for my son and part of the heel rubber had come apart from the plastic underlay on one of the shoes in a few days after purchase/receipt during practice. After calling ahead, I drove 20 miles to store with shoes in box and the owner insisted that it was not a manufacturer defect, said he had never seen such a defect in the past, and claimed that it happened because of a protruding nail or screw from the fencing strip (which was not the case). Anyway, aren't fencing shoes designed to withstand the potential irregularities intrinsic to fencing strips? Instead of accepting the shoes as a manufacturer defect and returning it to Adidas, he took the pair to the back of his store and "superglued" the defective part of the rubber (approx. 1" triangular area) to the plastic underlay...UNBELIEVABLE! The Mendoza family that owns/manages The Fencing Post seem very nice, but, after this experience, instead of buying and supporting a local store, I will purchase on-line in the future...you may not be able to see the salespeople face-to-face at web-based stores, but at least the return policy will be based on logic not expedience. By the way, I noticed that I have submitted the only non-5 star review...you can decide yourself: was it just a bad day or is this the level of customer service you can expect at The Fencing Post? After all, you really know whether the store stands behind a sale and their product when you have a problem. read more

Selected the Linea electric foil since it was an entry-level price point. Received it promptly and noticed a 2" long flat spot on the blade about 8" up from the guard. It looked as if the corner was ground down. Called, was told "It'll probably be ok." Requested a replacement, returned it, and received another blade with THE EXACT SAME DEFECT. Called, was told "Yeah, that's the quality we're getting from the Chinese blades." Demanded a refund, received an email my account had been credited EXCEPT FOR THE SHIPPING COST! Called, requested an explanation and finally got the shipping cost refunded. I will never do business with these people ever again. read more
