Total disappointment. I stopped by yesterday to purchase some gear and in my excitement at finding a local place where I could talk squash, I inadvertently managed to offend the owner, Sunny, who proceeded to treat me like I had typhoid fever. Really unpleasant interaction. So I went back today to apologize for whatever I did that she found so offensive and to let her know that I really did want to support a local business and at least come to some sort of rapprochement. Her response was to accept my apology and tell me effectively that the great thing about America is that she can react to me however she damn well pleases. And she's totally correct. I'd go out of my way to avoid purchasing from her. And unless you've a knack for walking on tenterhooks around prickly proprietors, I'd advise the same. They did do a bang-up job of regripping my racket, and they have a great selection of gear for racket sports though. Really wish my experience hadn't been so acrimonious. Well I see Sunny reads her reviews... I placed the racket I had planned to purchase back on the counter after being treated as though Sunny wiped me off the sole of her feet. She proceeded to throw the receipt for my purchase at me. I'd just refer everyone to the sheer volume of people whose experience mirrors mine. The reviews make for convincing reading. I've been in this store twice and both times a female who works there was very unhelpful and a tad on the condescending side. First time, I asked for help picking out a paddle and she just suggested I try them out. She was uninterested in providing any feed back as to which paddles she may suggest for my level of skill. Second time, we called in advance to see if they had sunglasses for pickleball, she said yes they have men's and women's. When we get there she says they have "protective eyewear" and repeats herself, it was again leaning toward condescending. Needless to say, I won't be going back. read more

As a beginner to intermediate Pickleball player, I had started playing enough that I realized my running shoes and Costco racket were possibly causing some of the aches and pains, so I came here searching for equipment, more suitable to frequent play. As soon as I walked in and mentioned wanting court shoes for Pickleball, the store associate led me to the back area, asked me for my shoe size and width, then pulled out three recommended pairs to try on. There was plenty of seating, and several other people, including some that I recognized from my club, doing the same thing. A few minutes later, she returned to ask me for feedback, then pulled out other pairs from the men's side based on my possibly needing wider shoes. Ultimately, the women's shoes a half size up fit the shape of my feet better. Next, I went into a small room with Pickleball rackets, looking for an overgrip to lessen the vibration when hitting the ball. While there, the same associate was speaking to another customer about demo rackets that the customer's husband had wanted to try. I had not heard of this program, so listened in regarding being able to test out rackets for $20 each for up to seven days, then having that amount applied to any racket purchases in the future. They had a large selection to demo, and so when that customer was done, I also inquired about doing the same thing. The associate talked about to me about my playing habits, then recommended some options, but also mentioned that they recently put some of their demo rackets for sale at 50% off, and the racket I wanted to demo was one. Ultimately, I left the store with a new pair of shoes and a new-to-me demo racket for about $200 total. I was able to play with them the next day and felt like I had been using them all along, no break-in pains or aches. I'm very happy with the recommendations I received and highly recommend this store for their expertise and selection. read more

Never been in 30 years in Carlsbad but saw this place near my Roberto's. Lol. I've recently got Achilles Tendinitis and need support for heel when playing PB. Went in and woman greeted me. Told her my issue and she directly me to 4 shoes. Said pick one that feels best, everyone's feet unique. 1st pair good, 2nd bit tight, 3rd not bad, 4th pair perfect fit and feel. I was warned before going here that the owners aren't very nice so it took me awhile to come here but my tennis coach has been preaching about my shoes not being right so I finally decided to try this place out since it was on the way home from a lesson. I walked in expecting that maybe people were exaggerating about them being unfriendly. They were right. I came in for a new pair of tennis shoes and the woman guided me to the back and gave me the best selling shoe she said and helped me with a popular Asics shoe (loved that she gave me another option and the most popular brand - we're off to a good start). Then she walked away and went back to the front of the store behind the computer. Didn't come to check on me or even ask how it was going. Did I need another size? How do they feel? Maybe offer any advice? Nada. There was another guy in the store and she seemed very friendly and helpful to him so I don't believe that they're not friendly to everyone - just everyone they don't know. As someone who operates 4 boutique fitness stores I understand the value of inclusivity and how far a warm greeting and helping answer any questions for people who are new goes. She acted almost elitist. What shocked me is I'm in your store for your help and guidance on your specialty, not mine. Help me understand why shoes should be tight vs loose or if I need more space for my toes. I was literally googling things because she wasn't helpful at all. IN HER OWN STORE. I would have probably bought the $150 shoes and maybe even a new outfit but I would never with the lack of attention and help. Zero effort was made beyond showing me to the shoes and I am honestly surprised how this place is still open. I guess people don't really have another option close by? Here's a tip - act interested in everyone who comes into your store. Help them find what they need, be kind and open to beginners who are already out of their comfort zone already. I play league, had tennis elbow and they recommended the solutions specifically made for me. My boys started out as beginners and then playing at school and college we got great advice. So rude and unprofessional owner named Sunny! It is a local store so I wanted to support it. Shame on them. I was there to string the rocket. The string broke a day after while playing tennis. The break was at the racket frame, so the coach judged that the string failure was definitely on their side. The owner took the racket for repair, agreeing with the coach's opinion. On the day of picking up the rocket, she ordered to pay the full amount. When I recalled her the conversation and our agreement, she kicked me out of the store. You are losing customers this way owner Sunny! Highly not recommend this store. Her unprofessional, extremely greedy and rude behavior is a shame! I have had only good experiences here. Rackets, pickle paddles, shoes, balls, stringing, advice on play, accessories, bags, etc. The staff is great, they have a lot of knowlege, there is a large amount of inventory to demo/purchase, and they meet their comittments on time/dates for completion of tasks. When looking at other reveiws, which are mostly positive, I find it humorous the things people complain about... I wore the shoes X # of times and got injured. Bro, how is this the shoe's fault? My strings broke... Yeah, it happens, do you think they cut the strings to charge you another $40? Legitmate complaints are defective product, dishonesty, etc. If you want a minimum wage employee with no tennis knowlege, telling you what shoes to buy, strings to use, go to the big box store or Amazon. Your poor play or being injury prone isn't the fault of the equipment or retailer. read more

Went there for stings because I needed a quick string job. I have a guy who strings for me, so I just wanted a pack of strings (Super G 17 gauge). He immediately tried to steer me to some other strings, I have no idea why but this kind of thing happens often here. I asked for a pack, but they said they only have this gauge in bulk. Though not thrilled, I said OK. A lady worker peeled the strings off a reel, wrapped them up and gave them to me. She never asked what racket I had or how I strung it (one piece or two) Brought them to my stringer and he said they shorted me. He did his best, but had to place a bridge to save string or there wouldn't be enough. I am not happy about this. In all my years, I have never come short on a pack of strings, Never. Their always seems to be some kind of friction when I buy anything at Seaside Rackets. My advice, stay clear. read more

Coming here was the biggest mistake. I was initially happy they got my racquet done so quickly. They charged $49 to re-string it, and add a bumper. After playing with it two times, the string broke. I brought it back, and they gave me a song and dance about "Oh well, see where the string broken ear the top of the frame? You're not supposed to hit the ball there, but in the middle of the racquet." I've been playing racquetball for almost 30 years, and we hit the ball EVERYWHERE on the racquet. Sometimes even the frame. And strings have never broken from this. EVER. But, I was believing the BS they were telling me, as the old guy doing the racquet said he's played his whole life and that happens. Even if it's a brand new string. I asked all the guys at the racquetball court, and they said there's no logic to what he said. A string should be able to take a rubber racquetball at all parts of the racquet and not break (unless the string is old, or they didn't string it properly, or they knicked it with a knife while tying off the ends, or something). When I brought it back, they said they'd charge me $20 for the labor, but give me the string for free. I brought my friends racquet, and they charged $37. I usually go to Dick's Sporting Goods, and it's around $23 for the string AND labor. And the string usually lasts me about a year (since I only play once a week, and it's doubles, which is less hitting for each person). I also play a dink came and don't have big power shots, so I'm not putting stress on the string. I've heard from others at the racquetball court these guys are expense. Others say the guy is grumpy. I don't care about grumpy. I do care about them not knowing a string should last more then a few times. read more

I mentioned I was there to look at shoes. He looked down at my feet, I was wearing sandals. He says did you bring socks? Because you can't try on shoes without socks! I needed pickleball shoes but at other stores all the court shoes were too narrow for me. Seaside Rackets was great. Not only did they have a large selection including wide sizes, the very knowledgable employee brought me at least 8 or 9 pairs of shoes to try, and a pair of K-Swiss were the right fit. It was surprising to me how differently size 10.5 shoes fit. I am very happy with the service I received and with my shoes. My wife and I are avid tennis players. Our tennis club was closed due to Covid-19 in March. We started playing badminton to stay healthy in our backyard. Because of its generous 365-day return policy, I ordered 6 cans of shuttlecock on the San Diego Badminton Supply website. Each can has 12 shuttlecocks. The website is owned by Seaside Rackets where customers pick up their orders. We only used a few shuttlecocks out of the first can before our tennis club reopened a few weeks ago. Because we don't play badminton any more, we would like to return the unopened and sealed 5 cans of shuttlecock to the store. I still have the receipt. I called Seaside Rackets. A woman answered my call. She said that Seaside Rackets had nothing to do with San Diego Badminton Supply even though I picked up my order from the store. She refused to accept my return. I opened the Seaside Rackets website: http://seasiderackets.com, I saw that the San Diego Badminton Supply banner was at the top of the home page. The store owner took over the phone and told me that he was going to change the 365-day return policy to 10 days on the San Diego Badminton Supply website tonight. I was shocked what a store owner could do to avoid legitimate returns. It seams that credibility means nothing to the store. What a shame! Stay away from this dishonest store. read more

Don't go to this store for badminton racket restring. First time broken after about 10 hours play (50 -60 years old plays for exercise). They restring it (they have every reason to let you know it is your fault! Said will choose a durable string. They charged less than the first time). Broken in less than 15 minutes. Yes, less than 15 minutes normal play time. I guess they don't have experience on badminton racket restring. Go to other places if you want to restring. For me, I decided just buy new ones which normal last about 6-12 months. read more

These guys are the best!!! There store is so awesome and has basically a room for each brand of gear. I haven't play tennis in a while and Yonex backpack bag was missing one of its straps. I looked everywhere from EBay, to Mercari, Poshmark.... I called a few stores they basically said tough luck or referred to calling Yonex. I came to Seaside rackets and the owners looked around for a few minutes but couldn't find one. They took my number and within a few days, they contacted me that they found two options. I just came in today and one of them fit perfectly! And amazingly, they gave it to me free! This is above and beyond. This is my goto shop! Worst experience I have ever had in any sporting goods store. The lady lied to me twice from the get-go about a particular product and then backtracked and admitted that she just didn't want to string a new racket. I also told her that I was in the market to buy multiple items today and wanted to see some of the merchandise available and she just stood there and stared at me like I had two heads. Can't stand people who have jobs but don't want to put in any effort in a time where not many people have the luxury of being employed. Just sad.
