I want to thank the staff for trying to help my son out on wet suit and they found the correct size and the prices are really great.

We walked in the surf shop - off the street to see what they had. It's a large shop and had a good variety. We were looking for any cool local stickers/ect - and when I stood up, the man behind the counter looked strait at me and said "That's right. Keep walking Paddy". We have gone back to this shop some may say TOO MANY times.. but good people attract good company!! Dude, this place is a homerun. If you're buying a surfboard and if you're lucky enough... You'll run into the Manager Tim. This guy knows his sh-t! He put me into a 6'3" Chemistry. I was kinda freakin' out because this was going to be the shortest board I have ever surfed. Yet, as Tim surmised, the 6'3" Chemistry is now my go-to board. I have caught so many waves with this board, it's ridiculous. Progression Surf will NOT sell you a board you cannot or are not capable of riding, and in the process, they will will ascertain what kind of rider you are, and then make a seasoned suggestion / recommendation. You should listen to these guys. They know their stuff. Big Thank You to Tim and Progression Surf. Lastly, I think Tim needs a raise ;) AND Progression has TONS of incredible used boards. read more

Gah! I'm covered in a fucking rash! It itches like a million scabies mites have burrowed under my skin and are having some sort of scabies mite party. Not that I have ever had scabies. You might be asking yourself, "What does this guy's rash have to do with this happy little Leucadia surf shop?" or maybe you're thinking to yourself, "I bet this guy did have scabies. Why else would he bring it up? Does he have scabies now? Is that what this is all about?" The rash is part of a larger series of wounds that inflicted on myself with a a surfboard I rented from Progression last week. I took their innocuous looking foam topped longboard down the street to South Ponto and somehow managed to gash the shit out of my arms, my knees and one of my feet. And now I'm suffering. Are wounds supposed to itch like this? Did something get into them? Something from the water or the sand? Whatever - the guys at the shop were totally nice, coming out with some beginner's surfing tips (which I apparently didn't listen to) and helping be get the roof rack set up. The board was... well, it was a rental softboard the same as you could get pretty much anywhere. But the price was good and the location is heck of convenient to some of the best surfing in America. Good times! Except for now - because right now I'm very seriously contemplating taking a fucking cheese grater to my fucking elbow. read more

Don't ever blindly try to get a board off Craigslist when you have Progression Surf to help you out! Came here on Memorial Day to finally get my Christmas present that the beau had been promising. I love that man! Their place is not overwhelming like many other surf shops around the North County area. Its very comfortable. And they do consignment. So however that works, you get like a n% profit for selling your board? ...something like that. I think that they have the right volume of surfboards to choose from. And their staff is ever so helpful. Not intimidating at all. They are personable. I told, I think his name is Stephan that i was looking to go smaller from my 8'7" funboard, but I didn't want a fatty fish and I knew I wasn't ready for a thruster. (one step at a time). He showed me several used boards upstairs and then pulled out a 6'9" bonzer from Line-up. Never heard of it before but he explained all the great qualities to a bonzer and I was sold! I trusted his words. Stephan knows what he is talking about. Paddled out several times since then and I love this thing! Of course I'm wiping out and looking like a damn fool, still trying to get used to it but I can tell that I'm going to have a pretty long lasting relationship with my bonzer. I'm very happy with the purchase. I think Progression will be my top choice when I'm looking for a thruster. read more

I don't ordinarily buy my boards from boutiques with the surfing-image gear, but all of the shapers I'd contacted about getting my fish board were pretty full of themselves, and treated me like a yuppy-dipshit. So I was seduced away from the local shapers by Doug's kindness, authenticity, and by his having a rental fish for me to try out before I plunked down the dosh. I still felt a little guilty for 'not supporting the little, local-guy'; UNTIL Doug told me (while eating his gargantuan burrito) how he landed here. He and his wife got off the corporate hamster-wheel, bought the shop, and are living the dream with their kids. And I'm very happy with my board. read more

Ok.....I've been doing solid amounts of board consignments with Progression at this point. I have consigned well over 20 boards with them. They always greet me with a warm hello and almost everyone there knows me by name at this point. They sell my boards...they even take in the hard ones to sell. Checks are cut quickly and I am very happy to have them sell my boards. I wouldn't consign a board with anyone else in North County San Diego ! read more

Progression is as good as it gets. Super helpful. They surf locally and totally understand what we're surfing. Everything from longboards to aggressive shortboards and a great selection of fish. Also, nice stock of rentals and used equipment. Expect the normal complement of clothes and other beach gear, but make no mistake, this is a surf shop, not a boutique. And, when you talk to someone who works there, you won't ever get a duh... let me find someone to help you... type of answer. Buy a wetsuit? Chances are whoever sells it to you has worn one of those wetsuits and knows the pros and cons. Surf at Beacons? They can help you get the right board to make the most of your sessions. I'm not easily impressed and there are sure enough surf shops along this stretch of road, but Progression is always the place I stop. Period. read more

Hi, I have grown up surfing and lived in many countries such as France, England, Spain, and South Africa. So when I moved to Leucadia, I went to every surf shop from Cardiff to Oceanside. Every surf shop sell pretty much the same things, maybe different brands but still. So what make the difference: the Staff, the relationship. Doug, the owner is super down to earth and so helpful. This is the difference with all the other surf shop, you feel at home. They are there to make it happen for you and help you out. So between my session at Swami's or Ponto, I always make sure to stop by and say hi because that is one of the last surf shop that is not about business but about sharing the passion for surfing. read more

I walked in to buy some wax and a few other little things and thought I would browse the used boards while I was there. I found a couple boards I was curious about couldn't get anybody's attention to ask questions. I tried waving them down I tried waiting politely, anything to get their attention without being rude and I was just ignored. I left won't be back if you're shopping for boards or gear or just wax try the Encinitas surf shop...Those guys know how to treat their customers. read more

Easy to find. Located on the 101 southbound in Leucadia. Cute, clean, and organized. If you're a beginner looking for a rental, come here. They rent foam boards and the staff is uber friendly; moreover, he knew his s@&$! Amazingly great prices for consignment boards. I didn't feel harrassed or stalked at any point by the guy behind the counter. I ended up settling for new wax, but I've decided that when I am on the hunt for my new board I'll come here. read more

Keepin it real in Leucadia... Great shop, and literally just a block from the beach. I rented a performance longboard there while in SoCal on business, and just walked to Beacons from there. I didn't catch the name of the guy who helped me, but he was familiar with my home break in NE Florida from his days as a touring pro. The shop is small, which is good for those of us who actually surf and aren't there primarily to buy beach towels or trinkets. Very good vibe there; lots of aloha. Well done guys! read more

I can't say enough good things about this surf shop! My son and I drove over 1/2 hour before they were closing, last week. My son was on the hunt for a board and we were concerned because it was so late in the day. The guy working there did absolutely nothing to rush us at all. This is why progression surf is the best surf shop I have ever been to: 1. I went in looking for a *used* board, and Doug, the owner, spent about 15-20 minutes helping me pick out exactly what I wanted, explaining to me the ins-and-outs of surfboard design and how it would affect my ride. 2. After picking out a board, I noticed some cracks in the glass. Without hesitation, Doug told me he would fix the dings, for free, on the spot. Amazing. As if this isn't enough, there's one more: 3. They were out of stock for leashes that day, so they went in the back and took one off their personal boards and gave it to me. This was the first time I had been in the store and was overwhelmed with how nice these people are. So please go in there every chance you get and spend some money! read more

I've been into this shop several times in the last few months looking for a used retro fish style surf board, and was really impressed with the very cool, knowledgeable staff. Really down to earth folks with a clean shop and decent prices for the area. Courteous service... Walked in to get a board, Tim answered approximately 700 of my questions thoroughly and patiently. He found a surfboard that fit me perfectly, both in size and price. The next day I took the board out and I'm not saying I turned into Kelly Slater... but I'm not NOT saying I turned into KS. Decent surf shop. Moderate selection of new boards but plenty of used boards which is cool. They sell boards on consignment and take 25%. Fair. Would be cool if they would pay 100% if you take store credit, like Freeline surf shop in Santa Cruz does. The guy who helped me was really friendly, but the woman was unfortunately very negative and almost caused me to take my business elsewhere. Therefore, I give them 3 stars. read more

We bought my son's first board here. It had the largest selection of used boards out of the shops we went too. The employees told us the pros and cons of the boards we selected. We were really excited about our purchases. The guy who helped us was adorable. Nice place but $15 an hour to rent a beginner board (on a weekday) seemed a bit overpriced. 3x times higher than Mission Beach.

The service at this shop (Patrick) is OUTSTANDING!!! I went to get a specific item and they were out of my size. Patrick called the other local surf shops to see if they had it (none did) and he was willing to order my item immediately so I could get it as soon as possible..even though it was a small price item and they usually ordered in bulk. I will certainly shop hear FIRST in the future...I just don't run across this kind of true caring and compassion for the customer that often. They sure hire well! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! read more

Rating 5 stars for their huge selection of great quality used boards and helpful guest service. I had called before hand to see if they had the kind of board I was looking for. Mike was very helpful in describing all about the board over the phone, even answering all of the many questions I asked about board shaping in general (including the difference between twin fin and thrusters, epoxy boards verses standard, etc). Definitely helped me to decide whether the board would be a good match for me or not. When I came into the store to look at the board, another helpful person (forgot her name. Blonde, really nice) continued to talk about the board helping me to see if it would be a good one for the waves out here and for my skill level. Friendly, professional vibe. read more

Pretty Avid Surfer in San Diego, I go through a TON of Boards. These guys can sell your boards for you. it's so simple and easy. You never know who your going to meet on Craigslist...Weirdos!! Drove into town on Saturday afternoon, rented two boards and got some tips on the best places to surf and also to eat, returned the boards two days later (and a few hours late, which they were really cool about). Horrible experience w/this place. This was our 2nd yr. to rent boards from Progression. Steve was very nice &helpful, but later tried to save his own skin by lying to Merritt about a rental agreement. Merritt was very unprofessional, called me accusingly, eluding that we probably wouldn't pay for a rental board because someone else had skipped out on them before. They had a copy of my driver's license & credit card number, so I still don't understand their business sense. Needless to say, we will never go back. Found a much better place in Oceanside w/a great selection of surfboards & employees who treat people like people. Note that this happened some time ago & is not being written in anger. Get a written agreement lest they forget & screw you. read more
